  1. I'm sorry but why on earth are we running wide with Ozigbo
  2. absolutely HAVE to get 6 here. Score off of this and this game is still within reach
  3. also for as much as we talk up our WR's theres been 1 single play made on the ball tonight by a WR and it was Westerkamp
  4. you guys can talk about talent and scheme and everything all night but the first thing I noticed watching this game was the overall lack of team speed for us
  5. Well at least this ends any ideas of Chris Jones leaving early
  6. I am in no way putting this onslaught on Tommy because the D looks softer than tissue paper but the pick 6 really set the tone for this game
  7. There is absolutely zero pass rush its actually unbelievable
  8. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/mens-basketball/at-big-red-today-breakfast-tim-miles-talks-starting-lineups/article_cb719864-a1d2-11e6-b2b1-a7cc674cae49.html Pretty good summary of the team here. Looking forward to a great year.
  9. This is not to knock Tommy as I think he is one of the better Huskers of the 2000's and obviously 10k yards of offense for a career speaks for itself. But I learned that we really need an accurate QB that can complete short routes to let our RB's/WR's make plays. Against a team like Wisconsin, and especially with how banged up our offensive line is, we needed to use the short passing game as an extension of the running game to open up the middle more. RB Flares, Tunnel Screens, Bubble Screens, Drags, TE Option routes, etc. There are 2 plays in particular that stand out to me in this regard in the last 2 "big" games we have played on the road that make me want to say this. First play I will bring up is from this past weekend against Wisconsin. 3rd and medium right around midfield on the drive after Wisconsin has scored their first TD. Armstrong is in the gun and Wisconsin brings pressure. Langs makes a great call in that he has 2 WR's running rub routes underneath against man coverage. Brandon Reilly is wide open and if Armstrong hits him Reilly probably goes for 15 yards and puts us on the edge of Brown's FG range. Instead he back-foots the throw unnecessarily and the ball is thrown behind Reilly and falls incomplete. Huskers punt. This was a big missed opportunity to potentially get a scoring response to the Wisconsin TD. The second play I will bring up some might not remember, and some may not deem relevant, but it is a perfect example of what I mean by needing a QB to be able to complete short throws accurately. 2014 at Michigan State. First and 10 from the Nebraska 20. Just over a minute left in the game and the Huskers are down 5, needing a TD to win. We call a pass and there is decent protection from the line. Ameer Abdullah swings out of the backfield and is WIDE open. Armstrong throws it about a yard too far in front of Ameer and the ball falls incomplete. Even Herbstreit on the broadcast says if he catches it he runs for "at least 20 yards". Tommy obviously makes the great throw down the sideline to Moore on the next play for 43 yards but I still wonder what could have been had the 43 yard catch been preceded by a 20-25 yard catch and run by Ameer. Nebraska has been able to attract difference makers at WR and RB. The main issue at Nebraska has been that the QB play for the past 8 years has been so erratic that it makes it almost impossible for us to win a big game. Having a QB that can complete roughly 62-65% of the passes he attempts and has the ability to just get the ball out to our receivers and RB's in space will allow this offense to open up tremendously IMO. Until that time comes, enjoy what we have left with Tommy. He's a fun guy to watch and he definitely makes games interesting.
  10. Released a top 5 of Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State today on Twitter
  11. Riley loves Langsdorf. He isn't getting rid of him. Also remember how awesome the offense was going to be with "Riley's guys".I love TA but it will be nice having a quarterback that doesn't miss wide open touchdown tosses the throw that stands out to me the most was in the first half when we were either at mid field or just on the plus side of the field on 3rd down. Reilly was wide open on a 5 yard drag route and probably goes for 20 if Armstrong hits him in stride. Instead he back foots it and its 2 yards behind him and is incomplete. I do think we will miss the element of the QB running game but it will be nice to have a QB that can make throws a college QB should be able to make
  12. I too thought this was odd. We only ran 1 jet sweep tonight IIRC. I thought the end around to Westerkamp late in the 4th was an abysmal call- Tommy has been killing them on the zone read all night. If you're going to run outside there you need to have the extra blocker and let Tommy do what Tommy does best- use his legs to find space and make a play. Had no idea why Wilbon came in out of nowhere in the 4th quarter. I thought Terrell Newby ran with heart and had a phenomenal game. Pass blocking for the most of the night by the backs was sensational. I really like what I'm seeing out of Newby and I think that he can be a great presence for us going forward. When we are healthy we are really good- there is talent on this roster. Whittaker also needs credit for coming in for Farmer and playing a great game in the interior. We could probably stand to develop a couple more outside run plays that are more downhill runs rather than long developing misdirection type plays. I thought our O was faster than the Wisconsin D- especially our RB's compared to their LB's. Stretch the field and give them a full head of steam and maybe the result is a little different tonight.
  13. Our goals are all still in front of us. We needed to win 1 of 2 in Madison or Columbus. Most of us figured it would be in Madison but with how OSU has looked the last 2 weeks and with how our D played tonight you can't tell me we don't have a chance. I honestly thought that we outplayed Wisconsin for about 3/4 of the game tonight- I thought OCDL called his worst game of 2016 other than Purdue. The good news is that while we lost I can at least take solace in the fact that when we got punched we punched back. We didn't back down and we owned the 4th quarter against a Top 10 (11- whatever) opponent in their house. This is a trait that bodes well for us in the future- we need to put together a better first half and then we could really have something. I like what I see from this team and the pieces could be coming together for us to be very special in the future.
  14. We have wasted first down each of the last 3 times
  15. We can do this. Take the hand cuffs off the play calling and lets do this boys. Fourth quarter is OUR QUARTER. Time to shine.
