  1. We do, but Langs call plays that have the arm punt/YOLO option. TA always goes yard....always. Langs needs to eliminate plays that have that route tree. Force TA to work down the field... But that route is usually important in opening up other routes underneath
  2. Consistently put ourselves in good 3rd down situations all season which I love
  3. 152 came in 2 plays. The points on the board really hurt but those yards are somewhat a mirageHuh? 152 yards were gained on 2 plays yes they gained the yards and it counts but that isn't indicative of how efficient their offense is working today. If they keep breaking off big plays regularly then I will eat my words but I would guess Iowa gains less yards the rest of the game than they did in the first quarterSo you're saying Iowa will gain slightly less than the 800 yards their on pace for? I agree However, those yards are real and are indicative of how bad their offense whipped out defense No I'm saying in quarters 2-4 combined Iowa will gain less than 198 yards, the yardage they accrued in the 1st quarter. It's not really indicative of the entire set. It's indicative of 2 plays that make up for 75% of their yardage

  6. Ha! Kevin Steele an LB coach good luck with that
  7. Spot on. Dual threat Quarterbacks are not valued by this staff. They ran off both Bush and Stanton. A lot of QBs are high school dual threats. When they get to the college level they realize that one of the threats -- typically passing -- is not as big a threat as the other. At which point they're not so dual-threaty. Stanton has been injured this season, but when allowed to start at UNLV he has proved to be a decent runner and a pretty bad passer in a system designed for him and facing defenses far less ferocious than the Big 10. I wish him luck but hardly think Nebraska made a terrible mistake letting him go. A.J. Bush wasn't likely to see the field this year and wanted a chance elsewhere. Bush and the Staff handled the situation appropriately. Insert any high school position. Thats the issue with recruiting. Sometimes great ones pan out and some times they don't. Some times the diamond in the rough rises to the top. Its crap shoot. Unfortunately, it looks like some teams seem to have had better luck scouting than us in getting more college "ready" kids in their ranks.I wouldn't call it a crappy shoot, it's more scouting. Obviously some of it is random but there are also schools churning out production and talent like nobody's business. Some kids are obvious home runs but first the ones that aren't, coaches scouting ability is the difference. Of course player progression is an important part as well but scouting us where it starts I'd agree. Swap out luck for scouting. Bama, Clemson, OSU etc......seem to do a great job scouting. Of course, playing at that level helps as winning helps recruiting tremendously. most definitely and you need a combination of home run day one guys and diamonds in the rough but luckily I think scouting for recruiting is a strength of our staff

  9. Oregon has no reason to rush things. Too many schools looking for a coach, not enough quality coaches available and they owe Helfrich alot of money. Panicking and trying to get Tom Herman could end in disaster if they don't land him. Wait until less schools are on the hunt and hope an elite coach becomes available (Brian Kelly?) In the mean time you can evaluate the direction Helfrich is taking the program
  10. the thing is you can't rely on parents to teach work ethic and good morals and if the kid doesn't learn that from parents or early schooling, it will effect them and they will be that "bad student" when really no one showed them how to be a good one. Not saying you are wrong, education is just a complicated subject. When a child fails, usually everyone is somewhat involved, parents, teachers and the child. You're right. Sometimes a teacher can positively affect a child when their parents are failing them. However, that job because exponentially tougher when the parents suck. Ultimately, if the parents suck and the teachers aren't able to reach the kid to make him/her improve, the majority of the fault still falls on the parents. It's the parent's job to make sure the child comes to school prepared to succeed and with the right attitude. (no, this isn't any indication of how I feel about this kid's parents. I don't knot them at all or anything really about the situation. I'm talking in general) the thing that sucks is it is all a cycle usually. Bad parenting can create major problems in school and just about everything else with a child, including when they grow up and have a kid of their own. They still operate by the broken system they learned from their parents and pass it to their children unless the child is strong enough to go against what they were taught at an early age and can restructure how they operate and break the cycle. Bad parents make more bad parents who in turn make undisciplined and uninterested children. It's crazy how much parenting can effect outcomes in a child's life, but everything they know comes from the parents so it makes sense Same disclaimer you posted, I don't know the parents so I'm not saying they are bad. Early struggles in school can be attributed to many things. The main thing is to not blame the child necessarily, because they have a reason for whatever they are doing wrong or poorly, and the root of the cause should be explored and exterminated rather than punishment for acts themselves
  11. he was a fantastic special teams coordinator in 2014!

  13. A fired up Devine Ozigbo in Iowa City? I like it
  14. Gebbia is an athlete too and I'm sure Lee can move around. We need exactly what Fyfe gave us on the ground against Maryland. If we can get a QB who can do that, maybe run 5 times on a few draws and scrambles and pick up 35-50 yards, that would be sufficient in my eyes. I don't want another guy like TA or Martinez, give me a guy like Joe Ganz for a few years. Expanding on that note, it seems as if when you have a player like TA or Martinez you really rely on their play as an offense. The offense really went through those players but I wouldn't mind a game manager type who really is facilitating the offense to our other guys rather than being the main player you scheme against as a defense.
  15. I think a more expanded version of what we saw this past week with Tanner Lee at the helm could be very potent especially if we can sign a guy who can play right away at WR like Lewis. If not we still have some weapons at WR and still we will have some talented backs. If Lee can provide above average QB play, it could really make things work well with an improving line in 2017.
  16. Ok, that makes sense. Thanks! So a win at Iowa combined with a Wisconsin win over Minnesota would break the curse. Winning the West actually extends it to the CCG or bowl. Well wouldn't we have to win the bowl as well? Could still end up 10-3 if we beat Iowa
  17. There is no reason we shouldn't be up 40-0 except for drive and play calling. All of which is the job of the coaches. Maybe we'll see what they do with "their players" next year but bad judgment in a coach doesn't go away when players graduate. and bad judgment has us on track to have one of our best seasons in 15 years. What's the deal should we just fire everyone now and try to get Tom Herman? Well we could try to do that but now we just look like LSU or Texas, what makes him pick us? These are our coaches and despite complaints they have led this team to a very good season. We haven't won em pretty, we did have a very rough loss, but we have won every game we have been favored in and that is progress for our program. Many do not but I appreciate the job the coaches have done this year and I am excited to give them time to build this team their way and see what they can do with it.You keep spouting this "best season in 15 years," but it is so far literally no better than 2010 or 2012. We are on the outside looking in for the CCG, with the ugliest loss we have had in decades. I hope we succeed but I'm being realistic here. Our two weakest links are OC and ST. We have different opinions but we will really have to wait until the end of the season to judge how good of a season it is and how good a job the staff has done

  19. We have two seasons full of reasons to complain. He shows a complete lack of judgment in play calling. Did he have a good game today? Sure but there were plenty of WTF moments where it looked like they were just picking plays at random. I'm not sure those reasons are 100% valid though. You act like OCDL being awful is a forgone conclusion everyone should know, but I'm not so sure he is a bad coach yet. You can come at me with your fan analysis all you want, and you may be right, but I think we should at least see how this team finishes the season because we can still end up with our best year in 15. Is that in spite of OCDL?How many times this year has Tommy made something out of nothing on a bad play call? Carried this team when the offense was sputtering. I'm sorry but yes our success has been despite the OC and ST. Our defense, which is a surprise to me after last year, is what has made this season what it is. Well *if* we can win next week, and especially if we can pull out a bowl win we will be seeing this offense with a guy they like in at QB next year and we will see if these guys can coach offense or not.
