  1. I liked Bo when he first got here. However, after a few seasons it was apparent that he wasn't the guy to right this ship. That's the same feeling I'm getting now with Riley. I like the guy, but he hasn't shown me anything that makes me think that he's a championship-caliber coach. Next season will be telling.
  2. This team has lacked discipline, "fire", and toughness for years. Their sloppiness and lack of killer instinct allows inferior teams to stick around. The majority of time they come out flat and not fired up and ready to play. I can't understand how these guys are so flat week after week. I've come to accept that this staff just isn't championship-caliber. Beating the cupcakes and losing to any team with a pulse is what I've become accustomed to; it's the norm and what I expect.
  3. Just gotta follow the blueprint laid out by teams like Bama, Michigan, Ohio State -- shell out top dollar for a big-name coach that top recruits will actually want to come to Lincoln, Nebraska to play for. Only other option is to hope to catch lightning in a bottle with a young up-and-comer like Frost.
  4. No way does that LSU kid come here. Orgeron is better than any recruiter we have. We had our chance to land him, and Riley chose Banker instead, remember? Now look.
  5. It's pretty apparent that we're not going to go much further with Riley at the helm. The top-tier schools have provided the blueprint: shell out top dollar and hire a big-name coach who can lure 4 and 5-star recruits. Just look at the coaches in the playoff this year: Saban, Meyer, Dabo, and Petersen (I still find it funny how a few years back when I suggested we pursue Petersen to replace Bo, I was told time and time again that he'd never leave Boise). Until we can land top talent, we're not going to be an elite team. Not sure why that's so hard for some people to see.
  6. I saw him a bunch of times in HS and twice at Tulane and was never impressed. He had nice size but not much else. At the time I never would've dreamed he'd end up at Nebraska -- just didn't think he was at that level. But, everyone tells me I'm just being a Debbie Downer and I read the article above that talks about all his supposed intangibles so I guess we'll see. If you're expecting something special though, you're in for a disappointment.
  7. It's been pretty much the same cycle repeating itself for the past 15+ years. One excuse after another -- we're young, geographically challenged, coach doesn't have his own players yet, etc., but just wait because we've got the best recruiting class in years and the staff is going to coach them up -- in about 2 years we'll be in the conference championship and blah blah blah. Bottom line is, until we get a big-name coach that top-tier recruits will actually come to Lincoln to play for, nothing is going to change.
  8. Most likely we'll up playing one of the 4-loss SEC teams and we'll see how we measure up. I agree though, it definitely was a down year for the SEC.
  9. All-too-familiar territory. Can't really blame them, though. Until we prove ourselves capable of beating a team with a pulse, we don't belong in the Top 25.
  10. Most people here in SEC country are thinking Auburn in the Sugar vs Oklahoma, LSU in the Citrus vs Louisville, and Florida in the Outback vs Nebraska. Iowa to the Holiday and Minnesota to the Music City.
  11. Music City isn't going to get any of those 3 teams
  12. All I'm saying is that if you're expecting to win 9 games with Lee as the starter, it's just not happening. I mean I wish the young man luck, but it is what it is.
  13. LSU would win by 25+ no matter when we play. At least if they played this weekend Fournette wouldn't play. In January he assuredly will. Our offense wouldn't be able to move the ball, and their RBs would gash us. Like I said, I'll bet a $50 steak dinner if they do play.
  14. For the record, I saw Jared Crick play his senior year in HS and thought maybe he was a decent walkon candidate but was surprised we had offered him a scholarship. He did a nice job last night on Sunday Night Football. Crick was a solid 3-star coming out of HS. Lee was barely a 2-star. Now, I know ratings aren't always accurate -- Ameer Abdullah is a prime example -- but there were a lot of things about Lee which concern me (accuracy, arm strength, putting too much air under the ball/floating a lot of passes). Seemed pretty average to me, but then again I see a lot of elite talent down here.
  15. Nice exaggeration. Actually I don't need film, because I've seen Lee play numerous times here in Louisiana. Of course his film is going to show his positive highlights. Also... was I the one who started this thread? No. So apparently others have heard the same things I've heard.
  16. Sadly, I agree. They wanted the anti-Bo, and they got him. I like Riley, but I also realize that he's not going to lead us back to glory. Nothing about this staff has given me any reason to think that championships are in the near future. In regards to Frost, I just hope that this is his dream job and that his passion is to right the ship.
  17. I just hope it all works out. QB is my biggest area of concern next season, mainly because I've seen Lee play in person several times and was unimpressed. At the time I had not even a tiny inkling that he'd ever end up at Nebraska, much less the potential starter. He just didn't come across as being at that level.
  18. Make no mistake about it, LSU would demolish us. It would not be close. I'd bet a steak dinner on it.
  19. No offense to the team but I would not want to play LSU. Their record is very misleading. Their defense is faster and saltier than any team we faced this year. Leonard Fournette will be healthy by then, and he and Guice would put on a clinic. LSU is a horrible matchup for us. I doubt we'd score double digits, if at all. Likely a blowout. Would much rather play Florida or Tennessee. Most people down here in SEC country think that Auburn will be in the Sugar. Citrus gets next pick so it would be either Florida (which would be coming off 2 straight losses) or LSU. People down here think it's a lock that Nebraska is going to the Outback and Iowa to the Holiday, with both Wisconsin and Penn State making Big 6 bowls.
  20. Third hand (at best) information on Facebook is your best source. And where have you seen Lee where you have been able to evaluate him? I saw him play at Jesuit in New Orleans no fewer than a dozen times, and twice at Tulane. Big kid, but never impressed me. Struggled against tough competition. As far as my FB source, I agree it isn't much, but based on multiple conversations with the guy, he seems legit. Once again I point out that LSU passed on him as a transfer, which tells me a lot because they struggled at that position this season and were looking. I mean look who ended up playing the majority of the season for them: a Purdue transfer.
  21. I think Outback will take Nebraska (likely vs Florida who will be 8-4) and Iowa will go to the Holiday.
  22. Meaning what? Stanton would have likely been a fairly productive QB for NU had there not been a system change during his freshman year. Received a lot of hype and did well on the camp circuit, but never progressed and never played a down. He didn't exactly light it up once he transferred, either.
  23. Well, on FB there's a guy who is friends with a family whose kid plays on the team. Says that POB isn't as good as advertised (or that they were led to believe) and hasn't developed the way they had expected. Problems reading defenses and other mechanics. I'm just really concerned about Lee. He never impressed me much -- I always figured he'd up up at a lower school like University of Louisiana/McNeese/Nicholls, certainly not at Nebraska.
  24. If Lee starts and Gebbia redshirts, I think there's a very strong possibility that Gebbia may end up passing POB on the depth chart eventually. The more I hear about POB, the more he's starting to sound like Johnny Stanton.
