  1. Doubt it. NCAA guidelines current only allow 5-7 teams to be considered (first opportunity based on APR). NCAA would have to change guidelines which I can't see happening quickly.
  2. I wouldn't hate bringing in Thompson from UT. He had a 3 game stretch all against top 15 teams, where he threw for 8 TDs 3 INT and averaged 290 yards. Seems like everyone at UT praises him as a person. It was also his first year starting and sounds like he was dealing with a hand injury. Don't see why anyone would be against bringing in a guy who held his own in big time games, and would be a positive influence in the locker room.
  3. We don't know what type of QB Smothers will be. That's why Frost is going after a transfer QB. If Frost's job was safe I'm sure we would be starting Smothers this season, and take our lumps with him as he figures it out. Frost doesn't have the luxury, if Smothers isn't ready right away our entire coaching staff probably gets canned.
  4. Outside of one bowl game against one of the worst defenses in football, this dude has looked like a pretty mediocre Mountain West QB
  5. Even if there are hospitalizations, if they are low acuity that would be huge. We can hook you to O2 and monitor you, hell we can even send you home on O2 and monitor you remotely. What we don't have is ICU staff and vents. I remain hopeful with the Omicron variant.
  6. Dawson's NJ connections had more to do with it. Dawson went to the NFL to get fully vested in the NFL pension plan I believe.
  7. Yeah, Seems to be more mild, plus vax rates and natural immunity helping.
  8. I don't think they're at 85% but it feels like people are using Denmark as the high vaccination, omicron experience. Looks like they are around 80% fully vaxxed with a ton of people having boosters. Despite that they are setting records for case count. Good news is hospitalizations and deaths are quite lower than the last wave, that'd be good news if it holds.
  9. I'd just assume they all are infected at this point haha. I know people want to prevent the next wave but look at New Zealand, 100 day lockdowns just delayed the inevitable, look at NYC, high vaccination rate, stricter rules in place - still getting slammed (I realize its way busier than Omaha). We're gonna get slammed too. Hospitals are gonna be insane for a few weeks, then we get past it. Hopefully there isn't a next wave, but if there is, we're gonna have to take that punch too.
  10. My wife and I both work at said hospitals. My point was more so, I've followed rules, I'm triple vaxxed, I still have to drag my a$$ to the overcrowded, under staffed hospital weekly - nothing is keeping me from my family and friends this holiday season.
  11. Also our top commit this year has Dawson listed as the primary recruiter.
  12. I get the fatigue. I've read numerous articles about omicron. The one thing they know is it spreads like wildfire. One expert even went as far as to say "We all have a date with Omicron". Talked it over with my wife. We have two littles that can't be vaxxed, they still go to daycare because we still have to go to work. So what the hell are we suppose to do, skip Christmas with family we haven't seen in 2 years? Skip having a beer with buddies I haven't seen in two years? For what? Just to get Omicron one week later from daycare or the hospital we work at? I understood the mitigation tactics early on, but the cat is out of the bag now.
  13. Yeah, nature of the beast. Chins has hit on his hires, won't doubt his decision on how to move forward.
  14. Chins helping Ruud with LBs. This seems like a no brainer if coach does indeed leave.
  15. Getting Ducker would be like finding a $20 in an old coat pocket. Not like you need that money to live, but it would be nice to have.
  16. Big Ben also credits Whipple with a lot of his success.
  17. Probably the Packers ST coordinator.
  18. The problem with Smothers is no one knows if he's ready or not. He could be, or he could have growing pains and everyone ends up getting fired. I think you need to bring in someone that has started games and has a decent track record to push Smothers and is ideally able to give the QB room one more year to develop.
  19. I can only speak for myself, but I have wanted to bring in someone with experience to compete with Adrian. Also to ensure if Adrian is banged up you don't have to trot him out there. I don't blame Frost for trying to get a portal QB, it sounds like that decision might have pushed AM out the door. It would really suck to lose AM and not get a portal QB.
  20. Soccer GFs taketh away, Soccer GFs taketh away. The QB story of the offseason.
  21. Ward hasn't even tweeted a Nebraska offer, I'd guess Ole Miss is in the driver seat for him. Casey Thompson is still available, though there was rumblings he was TCU bound. Zach Calzada is still available. If Slovis is truly gone, we are running out of impact QBs to bring in.
  22. ^Barstool guy, so take it with a grain of salt
  23. Will be interesting to watch AM at KSU. They are between OCs right now. Klieman's teams never throw the ball much, even when he had NFL QBs. Feels like KSU will try to run the ball a ton with Vaughn and AM. Hope his body is able to hold up, he's been through a lot.
  24. Arizona and Cal's offenses were among the worst in P5 football. Ours was miles ahead of theirs last year, and we brought in a QB coach whose previous QB might be the first QB off the board in the draft. I still think we stack up well.
