  1. That man might have won us the NC in '93- three in a row would have been sweet!! Depending what year, maybe he wins us that one in Boulder. 91 I think.
  2. Never!! Brown doesn't have the personality that Switzer did.
  3. 1. Terrel Farley- I think he was either adopted or in foster care as a child, but either way he had a tough childhood. Freakish ability to be around the ball. Had alot of demons 2. Kenny Wilson- seemed like he was going to break into the rotation and then that whole tv deal. 3. Cody Glenn- loved him as a running back, loved that he willing switched to LB, and then proof-gone 4. Joe Daily- kid was caught in a trap when BC came.
  4. Oh no, I differnetly don't know anything. I really feel like I am behind the eight ball this year. Usually, I turn my attention to baseball immediately after the end of NU's bowl game. This year, with the Saints still playing in January and the rise of NU women basketball, I just didn't have the time or the attention span to focus on the baseball team. This same weekend last year, I rented the 3rd base pavillion in Lafayette, Louisiana and threw a weekend party for Cajun/Nebraska series. The entire month before that game, I dissected every position/pitcher/etc. I don't know why I just assummed Cooper would have been dissatisfied with our entire baseball program based on one year. That was probably just a tad presumptuous. I have loved this kid since NU started courting him and I was so excited when he signed. I just want him to make an impact in either sport, and both if possible. He is just a sophomore. I do have concerns with the WR thing- we have players who participate in spring ball who can't seem to get a grasp on the offense, but Cooper's a sharp kid and I look forward to seeing him compete. And I hope no one jump ship on this year with our 0-2 start. How rough is it to never play outside and then face the 2008 NC, at home. Baseball is a game of failure.
  5. The security scanner at the Lafayette Louisiana airport is a Husker fan. Its a small airport and he always says "one Husker fan going home" when he checks my ID. I still have to take my shoes off though.
  6. I use to love gaming-and I was pretty good at them, too. We're talking Mario-type games here. Five years ago, my husband and I bought a ps(whatever) and we decided we would play for our non-baseball season hobby. Well we got Metal of Honor, and let me tell you it made me motion sick. I guess the graphics got too real. I would love to play video games with my hubby, but it just didn't work out. Now I play poker or bet on sports on-line for my winter hobby. He still plays vid games.
  7. I agree. Nothing better then a weekend at home, listening to a Husker b-ball game. The dead of winter is officially gone!
  8. Thanks-I think. Actually we must of played a hell of a game
  9. because he was way behind last fall. Had he had spring ball, he would have contended much earlier. If baseball is his sport of choice, why didn't he take a baseball scholly and also play football? He started four games last fall, but I don't think he made a hugh impact. I felt bad for him last spring. He chose us over Arkansas, and then the baseball team didn't even make the b12 tournament. Because he has to scholarship from football, no choice there. NCAA rules. Also, you do realize that the kid is a 5th round draft pick in baseball? And you realize how substantial that is? He will play baseball and football. He came here to do that and without that opportunity, he wouldn't be here. Also, plain and simple, its tough to go from high school ball to college ball in a matter of 9 months. There is a reason that kids don't usually have huge success as freshman regardless the sport. There is a learning curve. With football, even bigger. Our offense was terrible, one receiver wasn't going to make a difference on his own. C Thatd be like saying if carl crawford would of come here, he should of given up baseball for football, because he's on scholly. That is the kind of baseball talent we are talking here. Playing WR on a football team is alot different then let's say being a punter. I do know what kind of athlete get's drafted in the 5th round. My point is if he's not going to a high quality WR, he's wasting space and not doing himself any justice. He missed fall ball for baseball and spring ball for football. How's he going to get any better at either? You certain seem to have a short fuse. You can insult me all you want, but I believe my points are valid and I would like a friendly discussion. How am I insulting you by giving you the truth? You jumped to a false conclusion that cooper would be sticking to football. No one ever brought erstad into the conversation, no reason to do so, since being a punter is different. Its hard to say your points are valid when you bring up 2 things that aren't true/possible as your points. I started a discussion. You brought up some valid points, for which I appreciate. Your comment of"Make sure you know something about the kid before you say something about him" is immflamatory. The only think I said was I didn't thing he was not going to play baseball- and I was wrong. I have seen you take this kind of tone in other posts and I wonder what you get out of it. Condescending and uncalled for. And i think it is valid to discuss whether Cooper should dedicate his career to one sport or another. He taking a football scholorship to play his best sport(as you call it) baseball. I know he was a 5th round draft pick, but he was a fine high football player as well. I hope he does well in baseball. Afterall, it benefits all of us.

  12. Nice thread, but still I prefer some actual stats-not just memory. I mean actual percentages like number of carries, yards per run, etc. Tom Osborne said that when you run the ball two things could happen, one of them bad. When you pass the ball three things could happen and two of them bad. I guess it makes since.
  13. I obtained my Masters at Unl and worked have worked in nearly every major college town between Chicago and Denver. Iowa City was a nice town, I didn't care much for Columbia, Lawerence Kansas is a very nice town, Lincoln is a very nice town, Manhattan sucks, I could go on. I am sure that the program at Iowa is great, but there are mostly known for their medical school. But I agree with your philosophy of experiencing something new while you're young. You can always go back home. I wish I could convince my daughter of this. In fact I might just show her your origninal post. She is about to turn down a full ride to Tulane to go to Univerisity of Nebraska-Omaha. There is absoluetely nothing wrong with UNO, it's just I wish her to meet and experience life with people from other areas of the US.
  14. It's time to switch my attention to baseball. With last year's fb season and reading up on my beloved Dodgers these past few months, I have had little time to catch up on NU baseball during their offseason. I have read a couple of articles by journalist, but I really want some boardmember's opinion. So what do all think? I am assumming that Cooper is just sticking to fb(I might be wrong), and why does it seem that DJ Belfonte is in his sixth year with the Huskers? What are our stregnths and weaknesses?
  15. "He was attacked," the source said. "There's no other word for it. You've got an adult who attacked a kid, sucker punched him Seems like if he's old enough to lie about his age to get a beer, he's old enough to suffer the consequences of bar life after midnight.
  16. I think it depends a lot on the health of Helu. If he stays healthy, I see it playing out like 2009, with Helu getting the majority of the carriers and Burkhead coming in for a change of pace/to rest Helu and wildcat formations. Between Helu, Burkhead, and Trey we are in a good spot as far as RB is concerned, that's for sure. I see it like this in the beginning of the year- with additional duties of returns going to Burkhead. I think Burkhead and Helu's position flip later in the season. I love Helu, but Burkhead has a sixth sense that is really rare and keeping him off the field will only hurt the team. Trey R diffinetley has some talent, but I could see his brain getting in the way of his success. We'll know after the spring
  17. That statement is incorrect. We outplayed (at least our D did)/outcoached them. Plus, if you want to pull that card.... We should have beat VTech, but we didn't. We should have beat ISU, but we didn't, etc. Last year, we lived by our D; but football is at least two dimension(three if you add special teams). The margins of loss in T,VT, and Iowas State games would have been righted if we had just had a functional offense. We shouldn't have beaten VT- we had ZERO offense. We were lucky our D held us that close- same with Texas. A little luck was on our side in the Oklahoma game, the D held with no help from the Offense. We should've won the Iowa State game, even with our horrible offensive. There was just all that weird crap(turnovers) that sometimes happens. We turned out to have a really nice year. But ready for a NC run- come on.
  18. An old 78 record with a song called Ode to the Big Red. This is a memory from my very early childhood and I remember my dad playing it over and over. It's really cheesy, but in a real good 70s sort of way.
  19. I like this. Finally a prediction based on solid data.
  20. 5 busts we recruited and eventually lost - Simi Kuli Owa went to UCLA, because his Mom wanted to see him play. If he plays in the Pac 10, she will be able to travel to most of the games around the Portland area (Oregon St., Oregon, Washington, Washington St.) whereas if he played for us, she would maybe get to see him play 1-2 games in-person per year. Owa's decision had nothing to do with Husker fans, Ducks fans, or any other fans. Has Owa actually stated that this was the reason? Maybe he has and I missed it. But I didn't read it.
  21. How does anyone who will be a difference maker when they haven't even reached campus yet? Have there been any 5 star busts? I'm betting Yes. Sure, there is an upper echeleon of guys that possess mad skills, but any kid that get a scholy has potential that can be developed into the "difference maker" category. But who knows" It's a duckshoot, unless you have guys that consistantly know how to develope playmakers and we do. My point is- who cares what this guy thinks. Has it been brought up that maybe Owa went to UCLA because Huskers fans can, at times, be a bit overwhelming and crazy? Maybe that was a turnoff, not the coaches. You can argue that if we scared Owa off, that he didn't belong here anyway. But come on- if your 17 or 18 and people are hacking into your facebook and all the other crazy things that went on- and your going to a small city in cold, beachless American, you might run too. Compare the Owa situation with having an ex-girlfriend/boyfriend that calls way to often and follows you where ever you go. Made you want to run- didn't it?
  22. Good post. Personally, I wouldn't classify him as a dual threat quarterback. I would classify Tommie Frazier as an option threat. He really wasn't that good of a passer, at any account. His numbers looked good, but you have to consider the offense he ran. When he passed, it was usually for pretty big gains, and it was usually because of play action. Those play action plays always left his receivers and tight ends wide open. Not to say he couldn't thread the needle here and there, but I look at it kind of like how I look at TT quarterbacks. Generally, they aren't the best of quarterbacks, it just so happens that their system allows them to throw for 5,000 yards every year. Frazier, Frost and Crouch were marginal passers at best. All they did was win. While this is true, none of them were considered dual threat QB's. The closest thing to a dual threat QB to ever wear a Nebraska uniform was Berringer. This might be why he was the only one that would have been drafted to play QB in the NFL had it not been for his accident. I don't know that we ever go back to running the offense we did when TO was coach, but I bet we do go back to a power running team. I'm guessing the QB's we go after will look similar to Cody Green. Big kids with a strong arm that can if called upon run the football. Unlike TO's teams, we'll have to start burning scholarships to get elite fullbacks in here along with up to 4 great running backs. Cotton had better get his OL fired up. Could not have said it better. I'll also add that saying Frazier not being a dual threat is in no way an attempt to discredit his abilities or accomplishment. It's not what he was.
  23. Everyone knows what duel threat means. While Touchdown Tommie is probably my favorite all time Husker: a heart of a warrior, speedy, that sixth sense to make something out-of-nothing, he was not a good passer. I remember clearly it being an issue and he taking the entire summer of his Sophomore year to work on his passing. After that he was ok at best- but a duel threat? No, not if the second skill was passing Of course I don't know what this article is about since I have yet to read a summary.
  24. How do you tie Frazier to a dual threat QB? Unless it was run or pitch. By the end of his career he was a serviceable passer at best.
