  1. Maybe I'm just "butt hurt" ... but I'm not a fan of where NIL is going and I think in the end that it will be those with the big pockets and know how to "skirt" the gray areas that will win. That won't be in my opinion. It seems that Nebraskan's want to be the liberal, elite type folks ... but because of the nature of Nebraskan's [being more of a Bible belt mentality], we won't be able to push the "edges" quite like the liberal elite folks. In it all ... I'm not wondering how taxes will work out in all this. If these kids deserve a free scholarship [+ free medical care] and making a million dollars a year ... then certainly they can afford to pay taxes on it all. At least, if you want recognition for your name, image and likeness, I would think that means that you can also face real world taxes. How does all this look or work for these guys?
  2. Hmmm, I thought we have and are. I think it will be more of a case where both players have better options. It won't be that we don't want them or haven't pursued them.
  3. Alabama just got this guy as a transfer yesterday ... Vanderbilt OL Tyler Steen. So, there are improvement options ... we just don't win those or see those. This guy has to beat out 4-5* OL already on the team and is expected to do so. We don't need guys like this ... we are set. :-) I'm with you, OL need to be grown in house. Unfortunately, we are just now seeing that our "greenhouse" was not set up for success enough to develop the talent we believed was good enough.
  4. He's going to be wearing red/maroon ... it's just probably going to be USC, OU or OSU. This one will sort of fall into another recruit where it's like, "Man, who else would we have gotten to buy in had we not wasted five years of mistakes."
  5. I recall wanting/needing Savea and Payton ... missed on both. This is a perfect of example of "getting less" and then "under develop" and "under perform". It's sort of a "trait" in our recruiting and development in the DL and OL [although we have garnered a few OL with some * power]. It's just so puzzling and frustrating.
  6. I'm more than disappointed at this stage of development. What's your take Decked?
  7. I took 84HuskerLaw comments as more of the "5-6 good OL" short in terms of out of 16-18 OL you would have. I recall from a previous conversation with you about my negative view of the OL a year or so ago and you stated that "BIGRREDN has a sky is falling" view as it related to the OL. I probably did/do. I agree with you Mavric that having 30 OL isn't practical. The "rub" is that we can't seem to match yet anywhere near the quality of OL needed, nor really develop them. In that sense, how I took 84HuskerLaw's comment was a sort of ... "to match watch others are doing we will need to add more OL." In other words, to get the 16-18 that say an OSU has, we might need to have 30 OL we are working with. I agree though, that just wouldn't be feasible. For me, I would like to see us taking an extra DL and OL every year that what is perceived as needed so we see these two areas as the strength of the team [eventually and hopefully]. Sadly, we can't seem to recruit any studs in this area anymore ... everyone has to be a project. This is why I still don't see Nebraska as getting back to respectability because these two most important areas are still the slowest developed it seems. My fear is that the easy schedule will show "respectability" when the reality is that those two areas still are not fixed. It appears that we are still two years away from those spots having full development as to truly evaluate. I just think that there has been more misses on both recruiting and development and so we aren't going to see any sort of "pipeline" feel to what's been established. Hope I'm wrong.
  8. I think is about "freedom" coupled with "responsibility". It seems to take time for honor and respect to follow through or with the new responsibility/opportunities granted to the young mind.
  9. I believe this has been asked before, but it is fresh on my mind. I was just reading in the Tyson Terry [DL] thread for 2023 and didn't want to derail his recruiting page ... so I'm posting here. This guy [Tyson Terry] got offers from Iowa State, Kansas and Minnesota within 3-5 days of our offer. It leads me to a recruiting question. Question: Do all these staff just come to the same time frame and it's coincidence that these others staffs offer just after us? If so, my guess is that they perceive weakness and think they might beat us out? Your thoughts? Second Question: [I realize that we offer more folks than almost everyone] Does anyone think we do this regarding other staffs or for specific positions, if so who do you know or your guess? It seems like there are now a number of top recruits we don't even offer anymore [it seems like we already know we have no chance at the guy]. What do you see?
  10. Absolutely awesome. As one who works with folks who have lost their way [as I have], these types of folks that are truly broken to the core ... and see it and then purpose to get help and find life amidst all that is beating them down ... it's truly an honor to meet and know them. Good for this kid. I'll be curious to see how his life moves forward and the many beautiful things that will happen both for him and through him to others. Wonderful. There is great hope. Thanks for sharing.
  11. JJ, as it seems often for you ... you seem to let what ever issue you have with what you think I believe ... that you can't see the humor in what was being said and didn't take the time to watch the video. This called "humor". You will need to watch the video to get the chuckle within all the praise coming Mickey's way. Good day.
  12. Ya, Joseph has been impressive.. I stopped by practice a couple days ago and saw Mickey doing this drill. He's just doing all sorts of new things I don't know if any other WR coach is doing. The hang time he is creating is phenomenal. I like how he's getting his lions to take the hide at the highpoint. This has been lacking. https://www.facebook.com/reel/842196739837892?fs=e&s=cl
  13. Dang, he looks so much better here. If he can find his way from 225 to 232, and then get a little better OL blocking, then with this schedule I would think we can get 1000 yards out of the RB spot, perhaps, all 1000 yards just from this guy. If we could have a guy like him to convert those 2-3 tough yards or have a 2nd and 9 and get 6-7 yards on that type of run, it would totally change the mindset of this team.
  14. I think I'll insert a "Breece Hall" name here. It would have been interesting/curious to see what he would have been/done here. He was a guy who had my eye ... just not the staff. He looks to be a 1st round draft pick this year and had a solid impact at the college level. I was fascinating by the stats Mavric posted for us. Yet, for me, I'm still of the belief that the production from the RB spot was not where it needed to be and the OL was at least as big of a problem as the selection of the RB and passing on folks like Breece Hall. It all is what it is and we look to get better and improve. I'm still of the belief that we are a couple years away from the necessary OL and RB maturity and mindset necessary [and the DL spot is still not where it needs to be]. Here's to the development under our new coaches.
  15. Ya, I think we are seeing it the same way. As a runner myself, I've had various injuries in marathon training. For me, I've now learned the hard way about the time that I need to recover from various strains [even without a knee issue]. So, with all the left to right and stop and go of a football player, I imagine that all that movement might take more time or various folks based on their structure. So, if I were him and the coaches, this time, I would double the recovery time and just make sure. I would think that at this point he can be hopeful for a couple of productive years ... after he gets fully healthy. As you said, it's finding out next if it is a tear, strain or twist. Injuries suck. Hopefully, he is strong in his mental aspects. I once was but have now lost that. Now, when I'm injured I seem to have weak spots and even "phantom" thoughts or injuries. I hate it about my mind but even with renewing my mind I still can almost be "self-inflicting". Thankfully, Fidone is a stud athlete with a great mind I'm sure. His update is anticipated for sure.
  16. Perhaps. My guess is though that knees are different than collar bones. My collar bone grew back stronger than ever. My perception is that needs are much different. It will be interesting if they discover any issues. My initial [perhaps uneducated] thought is that his knee actually needed more time for various ligaments, vessels, muscle and bone to be more fully healed. In that sense, or if that is true, he might be served best to get 3-4 more additional months after they believe he is well. My guess is that others see of have this thought.
  17. Hope he can just rest up and recover until the start of the 2023 season. It might be a whole new thing then.
  18. Well, probably not going to be a legend here now. Tough to recover historically from the same injury. Time to get the next TE and over recruit him. If he comes back then great. It's too bad though. We never had a solid chance with Helms or Riley but lumming larger now for sure.
  19. That kid is about 15 minutes away from me. I'll go check out a game this season. Fun.
  20. Where would he get the best QB coaching? I don't know on this. In terms of "fit", I'm liking Georgia or Clemson. I think USC would be a nice fit also. Thinking that he wants to probably face the best competition, I'd say Georgia. Hope he is "N", but I think that there is so much uncertainty for coaching and perhaps the biggest issues with that he will go elsewhere.
  21. If Pola-Gates doesn't make an impact in some way other than special teams I would think that he will experience being recruited over and it will be determined that he was a bust. For the ranking he had and all the "hype", thus far, I have to conclude that he has underperformed by a good 25%.
  22. As one who has been blasted for speaking negatively about the OL over the years, I see the change of coaches really across the board on offense as the "sign" that at least Trev got it. Coaching has been a big problem. I'm am willing to "side with the coaches decision". Hopefully, Trev will keep more accountability in this next 1-2 years.
  23. I guess that is why they call it a forum and you have a variety of views. For me, I could take a DL upgrade in 1-2 positions. When we have DL getting drafted every year or every other year then I'll believe we're better off than people want to say.
  24. @Stumpy1, don't you think this kid is gonna be a at least a low 4*? I would think so. If Whip has been on this kid since the 6th grade, then he has to be legit [or we have place way too much confidence in Whip].
