  1. I watched Ohio beat Pittsburgh last year and I have to admit that I was nostalgic for the option. I was on my chair shouting at the TV in the hope that I would have some influence on the outcome of the game. Of course, Frankie's option didn't win that game (I think they mustered only 200 total yards - half of that being rushing yards)....it was the INTs returned for TDs by their defensive back (can't remember his name) that sealed the win. I think it is debatable whether Indiania is, indeed, a DI Team Personally, I think all of this talk about the Huskers being weary about a DII team is nonsense....we're going to crush Nichol State! We're a much better team than last year's team that faced Maine, IMO. GBR!
  2. I don't understand the "no" votes on this one. Why would someone not want the Huskers on TV? Not being critical....just curious. The NFL season doesn't kick-off until a week later, so no one will miss those games. Clue me in. Thanks
  3. DBs and QBs. Great pickup for Cally and Co.
  4. Burglars' note to self: Don't leave video evidence behind Suspects videotaped themselves on a stolen camera, then left it for deputies to find.Howie Padilla, Star Tribune Another week, another St. Paul movie premiere. But this time, instead of Garrison Keillor, Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher played host. The stars in this show were three unidentified young males -- burglary-ring suspects thought to be involved in at least six east metro capers. "I'm sure they'll be eligible for the 'Dumbest Crooks in America' video someday," Fletcher said. Police were seeking four suspects, and they had caught three juveniles by Thursday night. A sheriff's deputy came across the tape in a stolen video camera that was recovered from a stolen car early Sunday morning in Vadnais Heights after a car chase and crash. The driver and a passenger fled on foot, eluding the deputy. But in the vehicle, one of two stolen last month in Maplewood, the deputy found a trove from the burglaries. It included the video camera, a cell phone, an iPod, a shotgun and other items stolen last week. "If we've caught them with property from six burglaries, they've probably done 60," Fletcher said. In addition to the three people seen in the video, investigators believed there was a fourth person running the camera. They believe that person is among the three caught. Although there have been no reports of anyone being injured, Fletcher called the group dangerous because at least once, at a home in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood, the suspects broke into a house while people were at home. "Few burglars will go into a home that's occupied," Fletcher said. "They know the risks of getting caught and the potential." In the video, the suspects are seen at a basketball court, playing video games and trying to rap. The images are priceless to investigators, Fletcher said. "Without this piece of evidence, this crime would not be solved," he said. Authorities were looking for a stolen red Dodge Intrepid with Minnesota license plate LUS 835. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call 651-484-3366. Howie Padilla • 651-298-1551 ©2006 Star Tribune. All rights reserved.
  5. Bates has committed to ISU and, from what I've gathered, wasn't given serious attention as a Qb with NU. Forcier committed to UCLA. If we could get either one to decommit, I would take Forcier.....but that would probably take an act of God. I think Lee is our best chance of the four that you mentioned. But we need two QBs in this recruiting class. I wouldn't be surprised if Cally goes to the JUCO ranks for one of the two. You're nuts....just kidding. I am surprised that the elite HS Qbs aren't lining-up to play with the Huskers. If you're talented, you will get playing time very soon. Beck has two years left when the new QB recruit joins the class. The WCO will help any HS QB recruit prepare for the pro level. What else would you want if you're looking to go Pro? So, I'm a little surprised that not more QBs have shown a high interest in NU.
  6. I'm hoping that Benard finds something positive about us playing VT, because I want to be excited about it. But, you know...if Benard thinks that Frankie S would have attracted a better matchup, I would have to change my mind because the omniscience of Benard is undeniable.
  7. Good to see another Vikes fan on this board
  8. God that's hilarious. Where do you guys find this pictures!?
  9. Actually, the head on that beer is about right. Guinness company in Ireland trains all bartenders on how to pour a draught of their beer. Giving the right head (God, I'm getting aroused) is so crucial to pouring the beer. They even tap the beer twice. They tap a portion, let it sit, then tap it again to come up with the consistency. Bass beer is distributed by the makers of Guiness specifically because it makes the best black and tan. Here's a bit of info at Wikipedia.com A "perfectly poured" Guinness pint with some brown bread.Draught Guinness is considered at its best flavour when served cool, although not necessarily cold. It should be poured slowly at a 45° angle; about three quarters is poured and left to settle before the rest is added. The tap handle should be pushed forward, rather than pulled, when the beer is topped off. This creates the characteristic creamy head that lasts until the last sip. The perfect pint should have a head just proud of the rim of the glass, and no overspill. Recent advertising campaigns state that "it takes 119.6 seconds to pour the perfect pint" of Guinness. While this method of pouring (slow) is done in Ireland and Britain, many American bars (not all) seem to ignore the requisite 'slow pour'.
  10. Bass beer on draught is one of my faves. It also makes a great black and tan with Guinness. Peroni is surprisingly a good, unusual beer made in Italy Newcastle is good for a brown ale. I also like Sierra Nevada (the porter), Negra Modelo. For "cheaper" versions of red and brown beers, I like Killians and Leinies Red. Like some pales, too. Oh yeah, like I said before, I also like the taste of Fat Tire....but, for some bizarre reason, I get headaches from drinking it. I like micro breweries...Third Stone is a decent beer made here in Lincoln. Never tried Smithwick's...but now I'm curious. Not a big fan of German beers, since many taste "skunky" to me. Prefer Irish or British. Can't stand Blue Moon...it tastes like you're drinking someone's flowery perfume (awful stuff, IMO). Here's my first attempt of downloading an image to one of my posts
  11. Even though I think that beating USC would help with recruiting, I would trade a win over CU anytime. And not just any win....I want NU to anniliate them every year. Can't stand their classless fans. Just take a stroll on AllBuffs.com. The fact that CU doesn't do anything to distance themselves from that website says a lot about their football program. So anytime we can embarrass them...the better (though, usually they do an adequate job of embarrassing themselves. Note the fan display in the CU student section last year). Now, if the CU program and fans were to turn things around and start behaving with some class, then I'd feel differently about wanting NU to destroy them every year. But until then..... 12. Thanks...pretty much what I was saying...ViQueens front office looked amatuerish. They reached way too much. I've been a Vikings fan all my life and I have never felt so unsatisfied with their draft selections as I am this year. I've blabbed too much on this topic. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent.
  13. Sure wouldn't mind to read what other ViQueen fans thought about their draft. Seems like most of the Huskerboard members are Chief or Bronco fans though. Needless to say....I was greatly disappointed in the ViQueen management decisions during the draft....I really feel that next year, the ViQueens will be cellar dwellers in the NFC central. Maybe next year, when they get an early draft pick because of their lousy record, they'll get better quality talent. But...I'm not holding my breath.
  14. The defensive highlights and the catches by Nate Swift had me pumped-up the most. Can't wait to Bring-It-On!!
  15. Classic...POTW, I'm curious about the farks you mentioned. If you find them..post 'em!
  16. There currently is a thread in the 2007 Recruiting forum started by ETR entitled "Callahan on the Recruiting Trail" that is talking about this topic. Mods...I suggest that you merge one into the other.
  17. My ViQueens sucked at the draft. I give them a "F" on a cloudy day, "D" on a sunny. First, I'm not all that excited about Greenway at LB. I think that he is the prototype LB at the college level, but I don't think his skills will transfer well at the PRO level. Griffin as a 2nd rounder was a decent pick (their best...Greg Blue was a decent 6th round pick, too) and they needed depth at DB. Then....crap. Ryan Cook, a guard that the ViQueens are dubbing as a possible center, is a tub of lard. His fat around his belly reminds me of Exxon-Mobil CEO Lee Raymond's jowls. OMG...what we're they thinking. He wasn't even projected until the second day of the draft. Moreove, he is 6' 7". How many quarterbacks can see over a center that is 6' 7"! Many thought he wouldn't go until the 5th or 6th round. Then they trade 2 third round choices to nab Tarvaris Jackson, an unproven collegiate quarterback from Alabama State who hasn't displayed any accuracy. He wasn't projected until the 5th round by most experts yet the ViQueens feel compelled to trade 2 third rounders for a projected 5th rounder. Way to go...brain-trust! Ray Edwards (DE from Purdue) had some character issues. What is with the Vikings SAYING that they now want stand-up guys with good character drafting a player with character issues?? Doesn't make any sense. Aaaaaaargh! The ViQueens had enough draft picks to trade up for either Leinart or Cutler. They sat on their hands, made poor trades and poor choices in their picks. Heck...it's clouding over...I give them an F.
  18. Yeah, looking at the teams above us in their ranking, I would say that we are in pretty good company.
  19. Totally agree. Athlon and Street and Smith are generally pretty accurate and fair. I think picking NU to win the B12 North is kind of a no-brainer this year. You pick the hottest team from last year with the best chance of continuing that success with the returning players. In that case....it's NU all the way b -a - b- y! True...but, I'd rather have the team ranked lower than higher at this point. Don't want players to get over-confident or complacent.
  20. GBY...seems that a lot of you just don't worry. When I see schools in our division landing decent recruits, I get all edgy (must be my meds ). And Texas, well... they pretty much have half of their recruiting class already. I would feel better if we land a solid quarterback prospect soon. Wouldn't mind seeing some DBs verbalizing, too. Otherwise, I will continue to worry throughout the entire recruiting season. The coaches, IMO, have done an excellent job in recruiting the last two seasons....so, I guess that I should chill, like the rest of you But, truth be told, I dread openning up threads posted by ETR because, lately, it seems that most of the posts are informing us that a prospect has verballed someplace OTHER than NU. All the other prospects seem to be given a 5% chance of verbalizing to NU. I'm not reading about many recruits that are HIGH on NU. Oh yeah, I don't want this thread to get into a in-state recruiting debate (Lord knows that we've already had our share of those), but I it does bother me that some of the in-state prospects have jumped ship - so to speak. I can't believe that I'm the ONLY fan that is worried about our recruiting so far this year. I'm just glad that Callahan and the other coaches are actively on the recruiting trail. Prospects seem to gel well with our coaching staff.
  21. The fact that we only have one recruit so far and that we have missed on some of the in-state recruits has me worried. Most of the other Big 12 teams have at least three or four recruits. I fear that we have fallen behind in the recruiting race. I'd appreciate if any of you experts can alleviate my fears by telling me what recruits are close to verbalizing.
  22. I'm actually not that worried. I think that Beck and Ganz, though raw and inexperienced, can rise up to the challenge. There's no doubt that Taylor gives us our best chance to win, but I have complete confidence in the coaches and their preparation of the other QBs. GBR!
  23. Ye who have never sinned cast the first stone. After reading the article, and reading matt robertson's statement, I would say that he definitely showed a lot of maturity and humility. Stand-up guy...all the way. His parents should be proud of how he responded to the year-long suspension. He could have reacted an entirely different way (i.e. palmiero, bonds, onterrio smith...to name a few) by denying, denying, denying. I actually kinda feel sorry for the guy.
  24. Okay, Slacker, I'm ready for a hint.
