  1. Key difference... he knows who is boss is at A&M and clearly believes in the guy. We apparently don't have a firm vision or leaders in place that instill confidence that the University is set up for success. @knapplc was spot on that the problem lies with the University administration and the Board of Regents. Sad to see it play out as it did today.
  2. True, though I wish if it was causing a headache, he would've mentioned it more often in his interviews. Not necessarily airing dirty laundry, but simply "we're hopeful to have a President lined up by X date" to spur some action. Today felt like a rug pull out of nowhere, which hopefully it turns out to be a false alarm.
  3. Absolutely. In reading the OWH article, Ted Carter was one of the key reasons why Trev took the job as Carter was 'a leader he (I) can follow.' Carter announced in August that he was leaving. The Board has not found a replacement, and doesn't sound like they were close to installing anyone permanent. My hunch is that lack of clarity is a key reason Trev is frustrated, though I wish he would've made it more known that it's been a problem.
  4. Ben Cotton wishes you wouldn't, Tony Jerod-Eddie wishes you would.
  5. Some might say that Nebraska has had similar issues with boosters, administrators, and fans having outsized expectations or ego issues. Outside of volleyball and bowling, it's hard to find any of our programs that have had reasonably sustained success in the past 20 years. A strong argument could be made that A&M has accomplished more than us during that time. Unfortunately, we shot ourselves in the foot with a few coaches who were successful (Solich & Pelini) because of high expectations and it took quite a while for our administrative alignment to fall back into a good place. I'm still hopeful that Trev decides to stay and sees the progress through. It's been quite an impressive turnaround within the department, to lose that momentum would suck.
  6. I disagree that losing Trev would be a major loss. As we saw over the past 20+ years, getting the AD position right is vital to success. As for A&M being a worse job than Nebraska? Maybe, but it's a totally different dynamic and a whole lot more money.
  7. Not sure there would be a good time for any coach or administrator to be poached unexpectedly, but this definitely is unfortunate timing if it turns out to be true.
  8. Probably aches at the very least, still not sure his face is fully recovered from the preseason. That said, most players are sore at his point in the season. So long as they continue playing together and avoiding the Hero ball, we could have a special postseason.
  9. Not sure it's an effort thing for him as two of the three rebounds are on the offensive end. With Gary & Allick combining for 17, everything seems to be flowing as well as Hoiberg could hope on the rebounding end. 10 offensive boards as a team is pretty solid.
  10. I really hope he decides to come back next year. His growth since his freshman year has been fun to watch. Would be nice to see him shine as a senior.
  11. Only getting worse. Amazing how the past five games, OSU has had total fouls of 25, 16, 20, 23, & 14. Tonight they have 9 with 2 minutes left in the game... frustrating.
  12. Very impressed with the improved effort for defensive rebounding this year. It's a night and day difference from previous years. I hope Fred is able to find more players to maintain this effort and style in future years. Will keep them in most games if they can just have this kind of effort, even when the shots aren't falling.
  13. Felt like our coaches being animated helped us because every questionable decision seemed to favor the home side. I was hoping for better from Silas though, he doesn't seem to be in as good of a position as he was last year. That said, I thought we performed admirably overall. Penn State with five top ranked guys was going to be a tough deal no matter what.
  14. Physically, yes. All other ways, no. Would be a great addition for us no doubt.
  15. You're right, his conditioning isn't up to where he needs it to knock off Top 20 guys, but it's getting there. I really wonder how good he could have been if he were able to wrestle every offseason. I think it's also important to remember that we're in the top wrestling conference in the country and, until last night, he was holding his own pretty well against conference opponents.
  16. Buie was especially animated last night and gestured towards Keisei quite often. Wish we could've had Keita set a hard screen for just one play on that one. It would have been interesting to see the reaction in that scenario if the races were flipped.
  17. I did some digging and you are correct that for some odd reason, the rules for NCAA Men's basketball allow the timeout to reset 10-seconds to pass half-court. Oddly, NCAA Men's basketball is the only level that resets as the Women's rules do not allow a reset after a timeout, nor do lower levels.
  18. I'm not so sure about that. We were called in violation for the exact same scenario earlier in the year. Yesterday, Northwestern was not.
  19. I don't think anyone is looking for refs to help exactly. I think most fans just want consistency on both ends of the court and throughout the game/season. As an example from yesterday, the most obvious error was the 10-second backcourt violation late in the second half. Northwestern got trapped 5 or so seconds after inbounding and called a timeout. After the timeout, they inbounded the ball as we pressed and didn't cross half until there was ~16-17 seconds left on the shot clock (clearly 3-4 seconds after the 10 second rule). Fred and the bench went nuts, refs just ignored it. Earlier in the year, we were called on the violation in the same exact scenario. Northwestern's hot shooting along with some of our poor decision-making got Northwestern the win. We made a run for it the last 5-6 minutes, but just couldn't string together enough plays to overcome the hump. Buie mocking Tominga was kind of sad/pathetic
  20. Lifetime contract is a little tongue in cheek. I think it was a huge step the past year and a half with Fred leaving his ego and preferred playing style to change the program's identity. Although I think this year might be a little lightning in a bottle (several upperclassmen and complementary transfers), the style is admirable and keeps us in most games where we don't have the best players on the floor. Probably a little foolish to assume we'll knock of Top 10 teams multiple times every season, but this style works and recruiting players to it seems more reasonable than trying to be in the 5-star sweepstakes every season. All that said, if Fred can lead us to an NCAA tourney win, he may get the longest leash of a contract in the country.
  21. I'm sorry, you are incorrect. It was the correct play by Mast to pull down and search for a better shot/play. Taking a contested 3 against the best player for Illinois? Mast made the smart basketball play in trying to find a better opportunity with ~10+ seconds left. Shannon raked his hand across Mast's forearms and both the refs & announcers missed the foul.
  22. Better question is why no foul call on raking Mast's hands... Good decision not to try the contested 3. Refs missed another one there.
  23. It's very odd that Illinois is so physical and it took until 30 seconds left in overtime before they reached 10 fouls for the game... I think Underwood getting that tech early set a tone. Hate to blame the refs, but a whole lot of questionable decisions (again).
  24. 2nd chance point have been absolutely brutal for us today. Refs certainly not helping us all game, every 50/50 call seems to be going to the fighting Kevin Spaceys.
  25. Really struggling with the Maryland press. This is a game where we're really missing Gary and his calming presence. The second chance points are really hurting us right now, must box out better on defense and try to draw fouls in the paint on offense. Won't work if we're trying to continue with the 3-point contest being down 15+
