  1. I watched him speak about his retirement. he admitted he took what Nebraska was doing and put it in Wisconsin. That is the biggest reason the post Barry era at Wisconsin will eventually fade downward since his influence will continue to fade as every year passes. Doesn't matter if Paul Chryst coaches for another 10 years, he will have to coach and lead that program without Barry around now and he is no Barry and no Bret B.
  2. Want to know how Warner got a schooly to Kansas State? Read below.....it's not what you were expecting until you read it and then it makes complete sense...daddy did his job once again Klieman was a GA and Assistant at Northern Iowa when Kurt Warner played there.
  3. Frost has always said the team needed to get bigger, faster, more athletic, and stronger. Wandale types are tiny, lack elite speed, but shifty. They don't do all that much damage in the NFL either unless they have Olympic level top end speed. In the AAC the size of players are smaller and not as fast, as a whole, as they are in the Big Ten. In the Big Ten players tend to have a lot of size and just as fast and athletic as the small guys in the AAC. Frost wanted to use the Oregon, UCF speed stuff in space, but even OSU doesn't do it the way that Frost had been trying. In 2018 when the team was winning games during the second half of the season, it was ball going down the field and a downhill running game. In 2019 and 2020 it was pitch, handoff, catch to the Wandale show and it was a complete failure. Get the guys with size from WR, OL TE and get guys with good speed and size in the slot instead of these 5'9'' 180 small kids. Get the 6'3'' 210 in the slot - bigger catch radius, the defense has to decide to use an extra DB or LB, and stretch the defense, opening up the running game. Basically do what Alabama does. Don't do what Purdue and Wisconsin do. Wisconsin limits their ability with the way they run their offense and Purdue sucks because they are so damn pass happy. Even Ohio State will run a lot and for a lot of yards and it's not because they run the ball like Wisconsin.
  4. Many reasons Riley was fired. Warner being recruited is just one of many.
  5. Nah, he gets piled on because Riley brought him in because of his last name. Was not P5 level even as a walkon and the results here showed it too.
  6. and will drop easy touchdown passes.
  7. Yep. Rarely do I ever believe the so called package deals end up as package deals when it is all said and done, but this one seems like it could end up as an actual package deal.
  8. Nebraska has been in contact with the WR from Wake Forest. https://247sports.com/board/30/Contents/former-fourstar-wr-nolan-groulx-drawing-major-transfer-interest-163600025/ As a side note, looks like Warner has not found a new school yet.
  9. What I noticed on that clip is not Tannor, but Benhart. He clearly put in time this off-season. Looks more muscular and stronger. Literally drove that defender out of the play. Really good job by the linebacker sliding down to fill the gap that was about to pop open.
  10. before Frost got her I felt the linebacker unit as a whole was an FCS level talented group. Going into 2021, this is the first time I feel we are building a linebacker unit that is now worth of being a Big Ten level unit. JoJo coming back for one more season helps the transition so we can get the younger guys developed and ready. Then it becomes a matter of just making sure the coaches bring in a solid linebacker class every year. If they can do that, then we will have good defenses.
  11. I can see this kid becoming a better TE than Fant and Fidone. I'm really high on this kid. Once he is matured physically he will be a matchup nightmare.
  12. Now bring in a good filler for the 2022 class to pair with Carnie, Fidone, and this kid and we got some stuff going at the TE spot for years. Keep it rolling is all they need to now for that unit.
  13. Every year this staff gets commitments that the message board journalists have no clue about. The Clouse and Mike Schaefer types are pretty useless for getting information under the Frost staff.
  14. Even though I don't expect him to be a finalist, It's good to see he is respected well enough to be on such a list. This is a GOOD thing for Nebraska for the attention this brings.
  15. he told the coaches before spring ball started.
  16. Another tall WR with good speed. Keep building up the WR unit like this and we have something going. Now bring in a second WR that is even bigger and just as athletic.
  17. Nobody specific at the moment. He visited ASU last weekend, was expected to commit to them today, but backed off of it. Now will take visits. FSU spring game coming up. The message boards, and we all know how accurate they can be (lol), say he wants to play as early as he can in college and the ASU staff said no to that.
  18. Duffy was going to commit tomorrow but no longer is. Now will be visiting the Florida State spring game. He is ahead of Morris for the FSU QB recruiting chart. So we will see how things go and Nebraska could still have a shot at landing Morris.
  19. Scheduling influence being the biggest pain in the a$$. he was the head person of scheduling for football within the conference and always made sure they didn't have as tough of a schedule as other Big Ten West teams and would always make sure Nebraska had a tough schedule. Who do you think pitted Nebraska against Ohio State right off the bat? lol. Besides the change over the course of time for offensive philosophy for WI (and it will happen), is the scheduling aspect of things.
  20. Scheduling will be the biggest positive impact. He always made sure Wisconsin had easier schedules than the competition in the same division.
  21. You are illustrating exactly what I described about the media - those who will not have the proper grasp of how much influence he had on the football team even as AD. As stated, he would literally attended practices and gives feedback (he did this with every coach after he went to the AD office), literally has been visiting with recruits since becoming AD when they visit campus, literally has had a hand in film reviews and making sure certain schemes are ran, and much more. Barry retiring is a much bigger impact in the Big Ten than most will realize, including you.
  22. or any other school in the division. Northwestern has won the division 2 out of the last 3 seasons so they are already at the top. WI is below them. Now, Barry, as some may or may not know, has had his hands on the football program at WI even as an AD. He was always active in watching practices (literally), film study, talking to recruits when they were on campus, and make sure the schemes he used would never change. Stability for 31 years. It might be hard for some to not understand that and think the football program has continued to win after three coaching changes, but the real truth is that the "head coaching position" has always been Barry for the last 31 years. With his influence leaving, it means that Wisconsin will no longer have a person in charge that be able to override anything the head coach is doing. Thus, the head coach will be able to pass more, use more spread, etc, and be allowed to do it. Over the last 2 seasons Wisconsin has been passing the ball more and last season they really struggled on offense, one of the worst scoring offenses in the country. You can expect that trend to continue. The opportunity is there for Frost to take advantage of that influence at WI being gone now and be able to start to beat WI. I don't expect WI to fall to the wayside immediately, but it will happen more and more each year that Barry's influence is gone. I've seen so many programs not be able to replace a legend and it always turns out the same way. OU, AL, FSU, NE, USCw, etc, etc. I know some in the media say they aren't going to be impacted by this, but that is them showing that they don't actually understand how much Barry had his hands in with that football program the entire 31 years. WI will fade over the years and another Big Ten West team will rise.
  23. I think he isn't reading it correctly. The OC wants as much size as he can get and putting Toure in at the slot spot, with his ability to stress the D down the seam, it opens up the running game. the D will have to decide if they put a linebacker on him or a DB. For Wandale it was simple, a linebacker in most cases could handle him since he was small and didn't have elite speed, just shiffty quickness.
