  1. We blocked the EMLOS on that play and the blocker did end up blocking the defender inside instead of kicking out. Technically it is a wham concept, but Im talking about an Inside Wham play. As a RB I read that block- he's getting kicked out is what we want, if he squeezes it, I bounce outside. Many times the motioning player is running right past the EMLOS- not making the block. MUCH easier to make that block with no motion- the inside wham play per the diagram. The WHAM, in the diagrams is leaving an interior defender unblocked. The TE/H in essence traps- but the agreed upon nomenclature is Wham. Glad I could help you with that.
  2. Vokolek can make this block- we have to run something inside other than inside zone Wham is something they should add https://prostylespreadoffense.com/the-wham-play-an-answer-to-the-defenses-abilities-to-stop-everything/
  3. Special teams- there was a kickoff we were returning that was headed out of bounds- instead we return it to about the 15. We gave up 20 yards of field position on that- OOB- we get the ball at the 35.
  4. Our playbook has the inside zone play as its core running play. We just can't make that work. When teams these very well coached teams in the West can lay off the run and focus on defending the pass- that is going to be a real problem Since the blocking is a structural issue that isnt going to be solved quickly with this coaching staff- the solution is going to have to be scheme. We saw some of it on Saturday. The unbalanced formation with Teddy at TE- with the motion man kicking out the EMLOS and the RB leading up for a good old fashioned QB power play. Wisconsin was famous for these overload formations. We lined up fairly quickly on those plays as we got near the goal line- the check with me was off. Tempo- formations and scheme will have to be it. Note that most of the time- the check with me PERFECT run play ends up with a 2 yard gain after resetting etc- very frustrating to watch. Lets see some more orbit motion option- doesnt have to be triple, outside zone. We have yet to see much bootleg action, if we cant run IZ at least boot off of it and get something going the other way. The power with the motion man kicking out the EMLOS has been consistent money- so why not a wham type play further inside?
  5. It all depends on distance and field position. If you are 4th and 8 and in the middle of the field- that's different than 4th and 4 from the hash. Our kicker is really struggling- at this point anything close probably need to go for it. Our punting has improved- but not inside the 20 kicks.
  6. The orbit motion triple has almost disappeared from the quiver. Our base inside zone Im guessing is averaging 2 or 3 yards at best. While the passing game numbers are encouraging- when it comes to the BIG West in order to be consistently successful, you need to be able to run the ball. Especially when it cools down. With the issues we have with the Oline, that aspect of our game will need to improve by quite a bit to get us to 6 wins. The blocking issues are structural- they arent going to change much until you have a different coach. So that means it will have to be a scheme thing.
  7. Before everyone writes off Corcoran- I'm guessing he is still struggling with that Hamstring injury. Those are not fast healing and it definitely affects both speed and power. His ceiling is too high to write him off. Remember Banks was given a chance at LT and did poorly, he graded worst on the line when he got a bunch of snaps. It's probably Banks poor play that is forcing NU to stick with Corcoran. I'm hoping they put Teddy at LT and move Corcoran inside. They alternate positions in practice now and zone blocking rules are zone rules. We haven't pulled the guard a ton this year. If Hutmacher isnt going to get any snaps on defense- would like to see NU give him a shot at guard or center.
  8. Coach Frost is built that way. It probably stems from his days as a QB here at NU where the fans got on him a bit. He faced criticism and felt pressed for his job. Coach Osborne stuck with him and it ended up coming up roses for him. Look at CTB- a terrible punt returner by any metric, a true liability. Great kid, hard worker, loyal, excellent attitude. So Frost sticks with him even after making those mistakes. Coach Frost is hard headed and is going to stick with what he knows or thinks he knows. No amount of criticism anywhere will sway him- in fact it probably makes him dig in deeper. That includes players. We need to go to another kicker and like you said factor in our crappy special teams when considering if we should go for a 4th and 4. We should be thinking 4 down territory and call the plays accordingly.
  9. Unfortunately this is an inconvenient truth. But the truth nonetheless. It happens at every level of football. At the college level the referees watch film of previous games to prep for that weekend. At the High School and youth levels you end up with the same crew for games during the season and many of the crews stick together- so you get them year after year. They also often times communicate with each other, they attend meetings, clinics etc. Yes, the OU kid should have been flagged, but the #3 team in the country with the high scoring offense and continuous success over the last 15 years is going to get the benefit of the doubt over the team that had 4 penalties in their first drive. Turning the tables on this is all on us.
  10. Until NU plays more disciplined itself we will never get the benefit of calls like these. The referee saw it all, it was right in front of him and it would have negated a touchdown. When you have 4 penalties on your first drive and 2 penalties before you even run your first play- nonsense like this happens. It's like a great pitcher establishing a low and inside strike- umpires give him the benefit of the doubt. Anything questonable, is going against NU now because we have the deserved reputation of playing sloppy undisciplined football
  11. Martinez played very well. His throws were accurate- he only missed 2 throws and the INT was fine. Situationally aware football, not a problem gambling deep near the endzone on 4th and 18. So I'm not counting that. Defense was as good as weve been saying and then some- 218 yards passing> that's outstanding. Would like to see a better pass rush. At receiver We have more than just Toure. Allen, Betts and even Manning played well. We have receivers. Unfortunately our offensive line, filled with 4 star players just isn't getting the job done. Coaching change needed there. Special teams continues to be atrocious. The PAT block- one of our inside guys got steamrolled. On a kick return I think JOhnson- the ball was headed out of bounds- we would have got the ball on the 35- instead he fields it at the 4 and we start deep in our own end. Missed Field goals- yes you can coach kickers, there are things kickers do improperly that can be corrected with coaching and practice. Also there are methods to help them focus and better prepare mentally. We don't have a special teams coach- so no surprise that none of them have gone to the Kohls kicking camps or coaching sessions or understand how to coach the nuances of kicking. Coaching- all the stupid ill timed penalties continue to cripple this team. Four penalties on the first drive alone? That and special teams that look like some youtuber put together a complete season of keystone cops like bloopers on a compilation tape that instead just covered a single Husker game. Our special teams is like some alternate universe Twilight Zone episode with a Groundhog Day type plot. Poor special teams plays and lots of ill timed penalties are the symptoms of a poorly coached- poorly disciplined team. We still don't have a running game. Not much room for our backs- who do look pretty pedestrian. 85% of this is on our Oline. OU isn't as good as advertised. Tulane took OU to the wire and got blasted by Ole Miss. This game is encouraging- but we need to finally close out one of these games and get a win. Must win at MSU this week.
  12. With Illinois losing to Maryland. Looks like NU will be one of the two wins for Illinois this season.
  13. Solich did a really nice job of setting up the pass to Crouch. Held it until NU had established the play and caught OU looking for it
  14. Word from another fan on twitter doesnt count
  15. He played poorly in game 1, missed 2 very easy wide open throws that would have been sure game tying touchdowns. He also fumbled- it was returned for what turned out to be the game winning TD. More of the same. The offense sputtered against a very bad defense. We lost to an inferior team that may only win 2 games this year. In the last 2 games he has played well- both opponents are not quality teams by any stretch. These 2 games are encouraging, but again, these teams aren't very good. I'm guessing there are some that are tired of and don't appreciate the kool aide drinkers who carry AMs water no matter how poorly he plays. Many long suffering Husker fans have been hoodwinked by overhyped teams and players that consistently let them down over these last 15 or so years-- they are tired of it- I'm guessing. I'm hoping he is getting better and can get us to 6-6, but skeptical due to the poor coaching.
  16. I'm not confident in predicting this game. OU has had games they struggled, but usually when Rattler has been pressured. We don't do that well. Our lack of run game and miscues on special teams just doesn't allow me to hopeful thought of- if these things happen we can win. I'll watch and hope for the best. I talked our group out of going down to Norman-- selling them on East Lansing instead. If we win- they're going to be happy- but sorry we didn't go.
  17. You may want to start checking, if you're always wrong, you may want to consider I don't know, changing your sources or your approach to decision making.
  18. There you may have something. Our punt return game is abysmal. However would it be worth the distraction on the practice field and of course the play counting- trying to get him unproductive snaps on offense? That's a tough one because our PR game really does suck. https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e6ca411c-689a-422c-bcc7-cea3c2fd25f2
  19. JD was TCUs 9th best receiver last year with 56 yards 28 rushing https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/2628/season/2020 THis season JD is TCUs 5th best receiver with 35 yards- 7 yards rushing https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/2628/season/2020 He had 800+ yards here each of his 3 years. To think that something ISNT dramatically different in his game in 2019 and today is beyond delusional
  20. Sure, I agree with you minus Manning- he hasn't proved he can stay on the field yet. However 2021 JD isn't 2018 JD. Those are two very different players. He would be an unproductive distraction here and then there is the dad etc.
  21. He is flawed today- not was. He has trouble putting in the work and running routes that could involve contact. Now he is a shell of the productive player he was earlier in his career at Nebraska. That last Nebraska season- he just couldn't take it- it ruined him. Today He is a MUCH different player upstairs than the one who caught so many balls at NU.
  22. An inherently flawed and unproductive player at a mediocre program in a weak conference isn't going to fare any better at NU than TCU. Wandale has shown he is a P5 football player- JD has not. Not since his season end meltdown.
  23. Leaving out some things that make a long term good player. He's extremely smart- he understands the game, coverages, concepts and has great technique. He understands leverage and where the holes are going to be in the defense. He also is very calm and situationally aware. Watch when he is interviewing. Confident, knowledgeable, no hesitation, no stammering. He can create separation and knows how to alter his routes and get offs to help create separation. Excellent body control, lowers his hips well on the breaks so he doesn't have to slow down. Just a really smooth player. Really good get to say the very least.
