  1. Myles Farmer let his teammates down. It was a squandered opportunity. Where expectations were made clear and there’s non-compliance and unwillingness to make adjustments, the coach has got to make the necessary decision on behalf of the team.
  2. Unfortunate. It sounds like all it would’ve taken is for Myles to clean up a handful of things.
  3. The message is being communicated, be committed to putting in the effort and there will be dividends for both you and this team. Also, we're not going to allow things slide that causes prospects we want to go elsewhere. Championship level achievers want to surround themselves with those whom adhere to the standards that will deliver success. If we take some hits, so be it, we're going to accomplish our objectives. I'm reminded of what Singletary said while he was coaching the 49ers. I'd rather be penalized now than to sacrifice future successes and lengthen the long stretch of misery. "Little" things matter. If we can't trust you to do those, how are we supposed to be able to consider you a reliable contributor across the board going forth? Do you want to play and win or not. We're building something special here that you can be a part of. "24OURS" provides a sense of urgency while doing a number of critical things to set the trajectory. The needle moves into alignment though remedying a variety of success limiting features. One more story than I'll shut up. Many, many years ago I used to grumble about guys not bringing other coworkers lunch buckets, coats and other personal items to a table when they were exiting a pickup they had parked or whatever. So what, it's not mine right? Theirs to worry about wherever they are, whatever they're doing. Well, there's plenty to be concerned about...Looking out only for ourselves on a team doesn't work. Ever. You're just sort of existing together though not functioning at the highest level possible. Other teams you'll be facing will. What are they going to do, let up so you can experience the satisfaction of being winners (Lol). And, if they're not delivering their best, how much more would you learn and be a better team had they? It's not about being sweet and considerate (Although that's part). It's about being 100% in this together. Not 50% or even 90%. You are either ALL IN or, not. Guys! We won 70% of a game, let's celebrate? Not the way it works. You don't even have to particularly like everyone in your group. You will, however, without question do everything in your power to execute the mission however "insignificant" it (might) seem.
  4. Sometimes I share things to remind myself and not forget the value of their importance...lol That's absolutely true! Years ago worked for a guy that would not allow team members to learn different positions. That was okay until the lead person couldn't perform their obligations. Then what! Someone has to attempt to perform positions wasting valuable time and compromising the main objective from being achieved. It's fear-based leadership and a lack of patience and TRUST. It's difficult to accomplish much without trust. Things happen like what I call dictations whereupon the "leader" is dictating one's every move which makes the performer dependent upon this leader. We're back to overthinking again, except worse. Even more rigidity and not being able to function very well. We want to get people to a place where players are in "the zone" tuned in to what they are doing absent distractions simply responding effectively. In "flow". Sure, the employee/player is going to goof up. Maybe that makes one look bad initially or it requires time (that tests one's patience). No. Suspend your ego and get out of the way! I want members making mistakes now (and learning from them) so that in the future when it becomes necessary to lean on them the team can and will with confidence. Thus, the call for getting better on a continuum. Getting to a point where YOU are a teacher for others further accelerating you're learning and not looking around for the coach for answers when you should be PLAYING. The more teachers teaching, the better. All the parts become a living, learning organism/organization. When you've got some limitations, you want a host of people around where some can contribute in a variety of capacities and, you want backups that can be relied upon when occasions arise as they do. There's been some playing with fear going on for some time too (of failure and success). These guys have got to have trusting relationships all around. Courage, maybe even a little bit of a leap of faith that the folks coaching them have their very best interests at heart. For some, that's gotta be challenging and they must.
  5. Love the approach of as many of players as possible getting as many reps as possible. The other route might have shorter term benefits though it's a desperation move while the alternative multiplies collective experiences and helps to build depth.
  6. I've been hearing good things with Sherman for some time now. I'm not sure that he's been utilized very well or had the opportunities to.
  7. Too much thinking! It's much like figuring out a program or how an operating system works. Someone is sitting there watching, there's reluctance due to concern for making an error. Inaction becomes a thing. Several times done though, the better one gets. We don't want a lot of errors of course, though near perfection comes in time. Forgetting is a good thing. It's a necessary component to learning! The important thing is to take action and, with more and more repetition the mind-body connection does it's work. Then fluency takes place. New neural pathways caused by experiences. Aim and shot becoming one. Keep on throwing darts! There's nothing wrong at all with analysis if your an analyst. The more one does, the more one improves with it. There's a time and a place for it. For players though, we don't need analysis. At least not during the play or game. We want execution. Visualization and sleep helps, too.
  8. Could be...Know a few folks we could send to practices for replicating hot air blowing. That should work eh!
  9. Am encouraged with the addition of Sims. Excited to see what he does. Perhaps I’m underestimating the offensive group and they execute at a higher level.
  10. Whenever and whatever doesn't fit or function well in an engine or transmission. All the parts have to be in position and working well together having a collective purpose! Some might not appreciate Rhule's expectations and actions now but they will when the successes come.
  11. Lots of scenarios over and over and over again. Forgetting, remembering, forgetting less and less. Familiarity then knowing. All the pieces working together as effectively as possible. Constant and continuous improvement!
  12. Very much so. We hear words or phrases mentioned like "Grit", "Grind" and "Mental Toughness"... There's a level of understanding of what those term are though oftentimes it's quite shallow. But what do they really mean...Where is the experience of truly knowing their meaning? Mental toughness is sacrificing and working hard and then having it all destroyed in a matter of minutes then instead of being beaten or giving in, pulling yourself and your teammates up and responding to the adversity effectively. Things like that. Feeling the pain and getting back to work anyway because there are no other options (if you want to be successful with your endeavor). Going through the fire and coming out stronger and resilient as a consequence because, you decided to and defeating thoughts not getting the best of you. You're in the business of getting in your opponents heads and not being rattled. Grit is getting dirty, sweaty, bloody, cold, whatever uncomfortable thing it is, and not being distracted or deterred by it. Someone delivers a blow. It stings then you respond anyway. Success isn't always necessarily fun. It is, however, satisfying. It's cyclical. Not linear. Keep moving. The only constant in life is change. Embrace it. Accept the challenges. All of them. There will be many. I've heard people talking about grinding at work or the gym. It's laughable. Someone might think grinding is dinking around wasting time looking at phones, gossiping and yakking about insignificant things that take away from achieving goals. Work is being done sure, but where's the real commitment... Maybe "grinding" is defined as working hard but fun things being more important. That doesn't work. Look in the mirror into your eyes and take ownership for what you want to do and how you can contribute. It might piss some people off. Perhaps you'll have fewer "friends" that weren't really supportive of you anyway. I don't think that they necessarily lack confidence (although that can be a contributing factor). It's more about competencies. Being mentally competent. With that competence comes actual real confidence not just saying things to oneself that are encouraging, positive thinking. We've seen lots of positive thinkers that achieve little. Mental toughness would include agility. Abilities of adjusting and willingness to adapt. It's not some fixed point. And what if you do finally succeed...Does it get easier? No! It gets HARDER. Some people are afraid of that too. The better one gets, the harder things are and the more competent you are physically and mentally. With competence comes authentic confidence. Swagger doesn't come from a uniform or what ones star ratings are. It's what one does in the uniform directed by disciplines and self control. Not what's happening around you or to you. Don't beat yourself or your team up for error. Just be accountable and make every effort to execute at your highest level and keep on elevating it, burning brighter. We haven't been achieving nowhere near our potential. A big part of that is the mental game. Physical and mental talent combined complementing each other and, those around us.
  13. Rushing offense needs to improve. In particular, it has to improve in critical junctures. While I think that there will be improvement, the offensive line play will determine how successful we are there. We've got a ways to go there. Special teams needs to generate field position for the offense as well. The kicking game should be good. Envision Sims throwing lots of quick short and intermediate darts to receivers, backs and tight ends spreading the field quite a bit. A bit too reliant on the passing game yet. Lack of continuity has been a limiting factor for us. In time we'll finally have an identity. What will likely improve most in my estimation is passing defense.Coach White will have his group ready and disciplined. There will likely be significant improvement in the area of penalties, too. For the most part, I think that the defense again will carry the team this season. It'll take longer for the offense to come around. We have speed though those players lack experience at present. Much better special teams play would be a welcome surprise and help considerably.
  14. I'd say Martin is positioned for success. He has solid credentials.
  15. It's actually a Pepsi float!
  16. The opportunity was squandered terribly. Alcohol was more important than obligations to his family and our team. I don't want the conduct and lack of self control anywhere near student athletes. While a feel badly about the situation, actions have (or should have) consequences. Bob gave the impression of someone that pushes himself hard and likes to keep busy. Whatever underlying issues there might be, hopefully he confronts it head on and gets the help he needs.Wishing him the absolute best from here. Could've potentially resulted in a much worse outcome.
  17. Leadership has to maximize the effectiveness of all areas of the organization. It seems that the strength and conditioning staff takes more of an individualized approach. There's an appreciation for what each player's needs are to perform at their highest levels as well an awareness that there are differences in athletes with respect to recovery. Then that is blended in with nutrition and mental aspects of sport.
  18. A big part of it anyway...It seemed to me that there was some improvement with the lineman's hip movement and strength in the spring game on both sides of the ball. That was the impression I got. Here's a Sports Illustrated article discussing Nebraska's strength and conditioning if anyone missed it. https://www.si.com/college/2023/06/30/nebraska-strength-conditioning-development-future-matt-rhule
  19. Thanks for putting all of that together @Saunders. I'll say 5-6 wins. Anything more than that would be an impressive achievement IMO. Still think while the offense will show promise, it's the defense that will carry this team for the majority of the season once they get accustomed to the system. Sims will be firing short and intermediate bullets and hopefully we can establish a reliable rushing game.
  20. Yeah...It'll take time. Got to keep on raising the bar again and again and again over. One practice, one game, one season at a time!
