  1. Barbecued brisket, ribs, pulled pork, cornbread and a whole lot of other yummy stuff.
  2. Lol It seems that we've been stuck in a long cold winter for some time now. I'm ready for some real growth and bountiful harvests!
  3. Which one of those you highlighted do you think would have the strongest chance of being successful here?
  4. Do you think that Leonhard could make the jump to HC? Awesome defensive coordinator!
  5. Throwing something at teams that they don't commonly experience defending makes sense. There's a strong argument for considering it IMO.
  6. Updated with five favorites Kyle Wittingham Dave Doeren Kalani Sitake Luke Fickell Pat Narduzzi Jeff Hafley Chris Petersen Jay Norvell Hugh Freeze Matt Cambell Chris Klieman Dana Holgorsen Jason Candle Bret Bielema Mark Stoops Jamey Chadwell Matt Rhule
  7. That's pretty accurate I'd say. T.O. was influential as well. No eyes rolling from here. No flames.
  8. Trev was convinced to have Scott remain. It was a compromise. Of coarse it’s been said that deciding between two colors of shoes and agreeing to wear one of each is compromising which ultimately ends up looking rather silly. Personally I wasn’t opposed with an additional year as long as significant changes were implemented. Only the buyout could’ve been reduced still to around $3 million. To date the arrangement hasn’t appeared to be the better option although there were likely several factors that contributed to it.
  9. *All bolded above are my emphasis The comments here are littered with attacks, contradictions and rather wild assertions! Who is deserving of the best??? The dumb fan base? All the foolish donors and regents? Our incompetent, privileged athletic director? On and on. In another words, a very slim minority correct? Only the brightest, intellectually superior among us are worthy of cheering, obviously...It's said Nebraska is a big time university. Then, virtually everything about it is delivered a vicious slap to the face. There are lots of good-hearted folks that love this football program. Those in charge and not. For them to be called empty-headed and most everything leading it wholly inferior is fascinating. Regardless what the opinion is of coach Frost, it's accurate to say that more than a handful of schools were interested in him in (and outside of) the conference at that time. What was achieved at UCF made a favorable impression among quite a few. I'm sure others had reservations. Excuse me I'm sorry, insulting about everyone who cares about Nebraska football seems to me rather foolish. It does give rise a degree of attention though.
  10. I think that he genuinely wanted to turn the culture around and has made strides there. Perhaps it’s not ideal. My issue has more to do with Scott’s skill set being incomplete for being a HC. He has credentials. It’s that he doesn’t have all of them that are necessary. Put him in the role as a position couch as an OC it’s a better fit. Spending some time in the Saban program would likely serve him well.
  11. Both Alberts and Frost should be terminated? A nuclear option isn’t warranted. Is it a ridiculous idea to see what Trev can do for the program? I know that a lot of people are of the opinion that he never should’ve retained Scott. I understand that there was cause for doing that although I’m not in that camp.
  12. There’s different interpretations of what that statement means. The critical part of me says what he’s essentially saying is “I’m smart. I should be contributing and I’m to be cooperated with”. Or, he’s suggesting that all members of the staff have things to contribute and it should be a collaborative effort. The first spells trouble. The other is entirely reasonable and constructive. Anger makes smart people dumb, destructive and certainly not creative. We can hope that what’s meant is the second. Despite criticisms, I don’t hate Scott and I’ll take him at his word. At least for now.
  13. The most likely possibility then is to get a commitment from a candidate that espouses characteristics of the quality, well known coach.
  14. Lots of relevancy there! Weren’t coaches like Osborne and Petersen playing the “infinite game”? To me it seems so. What do you think? It’s possible that coach Frost has read the book.
  15. Billy Napier is unlikely to leave. I like each of those coaches.
  16. There's no reason we can't be as competitive as many other successful programs in the league. There's challenges and I think most people's expectations are reasonable. I like Napier, Chadwell and Norvell. We have talent in skill positions in particular. I want to have an identity of having a stout offensive line and being more physical on both sides of the ball. It's not like ordering super of coarse (ha) but I'd like to get a group together of coaches and players that have as many "redeeming qualities" as possible. We're nowhere near where we should be now going into year 5.
  17. Among potential considerations, which coaches offensive schemes would best utilize the players that we'd have on the team? Who has really good line coaches and coordinators on staff? The caliber of their assistants makes a difference too. Also, which could recruit talent rich regions in the south and Texas?
  18. Oct. 16 after the Purdue game depending on the outcome is the rumor. With the bye week. Getting a jump on replacements has advantages IMO. Maybe there'll be a shocker where things turn around!
  19. And carpenters say OUCH if they hit their fingers with a hammer and people do likewise when hot bacon grease happens to splatter on them too.
  20. Technically, it was a squid. It’s a hybrid of a squib and fake punt.
  21. I learnt that Oklahoma is going to knock the tar out of our offense. We’ll be schooled in discipline and physicality. The backup QB’s had better be ready to step in with all the pressure that’ll be launched at us. The Sooner defense is going to lay the hammer down on us HARD. Our best hope is utilizing Grant and Allen and incorporating a bunch of quicker release passes. Maybe deploying Smothers helps our cause with some option. Offensively, OU will run all day long on us at will and exploit our secondary. It’s scary how much of a yards total they’ll rack up. The time of possession advantage to them will be enormous. We’ll be bone-tired halfway through the third quarter beginning in the second. And psychologically spent. The good news is that we’re able to score a few points against their second and third stringers. Scott will be erupting at halftime. Troops in contact. Troops in contact! Execute!!! I’m lowering my expectations. Hopefully it won’t be quite that bad. I’ll learn something new. Those Sunday morning meetings must be growing increasingly dark. 7-7 at halftime…
  22. Wait a minute...What if we overhauled the entire defensive staff installing a top DC. There's definitely a scotoma going on there. We now set Frost's buyout to $1M. Scott assumes play calling duties as OC. Les Miles is somehow brought in to assist with the O-Line. Whipple is made HC. Larry the Cable Guy is enlisted to serve as team Press Secretary!
  23. I think that Scott puts too much pressure on himself and tries too hard. From the moment he arrived he had high expectations. He raised the bar excessively high out of the gate. He's a very determined type of person that believed that he could "make it happen". That's likely served him well in a lot of ways. Forcing things rarely works though. Has he taken opportunities to really reflect? Being a successful head coach is far more difficult than most of us can fathom. There's a lot more moving pieces to superintend than a position coach. It's like adding drops together then their becoming something out of constituents being combined then managing the mixture. A chemistry lab of sorts whereupon the parts are functioning as one in sync effective what they do collectively through delegation. It's highly nuanced. It was a daunting task to begin with. He walked into a hot mess. He appears in distress. I think that he genuinely cares, doesn't want to let his players down and doesn't know how to remedy what's been plaguing his team. It's a tall order to fill the role of his incredibly successful coach in Osborne. Understand, I'm not giving him a free pass. He was ignorant to much of what extent was/is required. The Big 10 will adjust and adapt to us not the other way around. He's made mistakes aplenty. All competitive people "have an ego". But can it be suspended when appropriate, managed? Shining is fine as long as it's secondary to that which supersedes it. And sure, we're feed responses to questions that don't match up with the reality of the situation. It's hard to both deliver the truth and receive it. We all have flaws and shortcomings. It's an odd phenomenon. Sometimes when we're so close to something enmeshed in it, we can't recognize what's near us required for solving challenges or even having an awareness that they exist. Difficult to see when in "the thick of things". Good coaches are good observers I think. Orchestrators that deliberate a lot and view the larger picture. However much you love or are passionate about something, you have to learn to hold it like a bird in one's hands. Somewhat firmly but free enough for it to breathe and have life otherwise, it works desperately and much less effectively. Scott can plea and try to convince however much he wants it to work. More time, etc. It likely won't. It seems that way anyway.
