  1. More of an emotional aspect to it, increased pressures and how to deal with it effectively. Much more of an organizational aspect to it. Holding student athletes accountable. Having an array of competencies as a captain. Resisting emotional, irrational choices, ETC. It’s very similar to being in a CEO role I’d think. They’d likely benefit enlisting David Marquet, Jocko Willink and Rickson Gracie among others for the endeavor in my estimation.
  2. Being head coach is another ballgame for sure. Few are cut out for it. It entails a lot that hasn’t been experienced before.
  3. It's possible candidates might be coaching in bowl games.
  4. Lol They'd better keep ME outta there!
  5. I just see Scott as a highly creative. Elaborate scheming is great if you can execute it. Some of it's players for sure. Mostly it's O-line play and quarterbacking issues. You work with what you've got though. It's probably a combination. Maybe I'm not seeing it quite as accurately as I think I am. There's a mental aspect to it too. Not converting when we need to at critical junctures. There's always going to be some of that. We're not good enough to overcome these kinds of mistakes. I think that we need to learn how to get smacked in the mouth then smack back anyway undeterred when it happens because, it will happen. And the thinking has to come around to that we WILL respond confident that we can. A little bit of this, a little bit of that and add in the special teams play it's not a recipe for success. In some ways, I do think we are close though the last stretch of the mountain is pretty steep. I'm hoping that what we've been doing isn't abandoned altogether too. That's really not necessary nor do I expect it will be. I don't see why it can't or won't be incorporated in.
  6. Fair enough. That's the impression I get from what I've watched. I've missed some though.
  7. I'm encouraged. I'm not gonna be slurping down Kool-Aid though. We've got a lot of real work that needs to be done.
  8. "Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda - WR - New Mexico State" Would love it if we can get him here.
  9. The common denominator is that we need good line play no matter what schemes are implemented. And having a quarterback that can effectively execute the offense. I can see the benefits of both. Do think it would be in our interest to tone down the complication some. Easier to execute. It just seems to me that that we try so many things. They may be brilliant plays but can we execute them consistently enough. Whatever we do, we've got to be doing it well. Have we been doing what we've been doing well enough with regularity...Somehow that has to improve to where there's greater consistency. There needs to be reliable, high percentage plays incorporated. Having Mickey Joseph here is going to be of great benefit whatever we do. I feel really good about our receivers improving.
  10. I can see scenarios where aspects of special teams are divided among a couple of coaches. I know that it doesn't mean that we are neglecting running backs if there's not a dedicated coach there. Depending on the circumstances, the particular persons, a RB/ST or RB/TE combo could work. The bottom line is that special teams definitely needs attention and improvement. I don't care how the issues get addressed and taken care of as long as they do.
  11. 50 is a reach. With an upgrade in receivers coaching with better quarterback play and an offensive line with their act together 35-40 and occasionally more is realistic. We need to generate a reliable running game for conversions too. That's a lot of if's but if we can do that'll we'll be winning a lot more games. It seems his scheming is less complicated which should be helpful. That's the impression I'm getting anyway. He does need good quarterbacking.
  12. Armstrong seems pretty damn good!
  13. GREG KNOX remains a possibility. Despite earlier chuckles, he's becoming more of an appealing option. He's coached both running backs and special teams. Greg would be a great addition to the staff if we can get him.
  14. He's good! It's like asking a chief to cook your favorite dish. It's because you know he's capable, you respect his talent and you want to taste what you believe he could do. He's trusted, a person one has confidence in. Now, he's gotta be wanting to do it and it's a legitimate choice. If the guy says, you know, Italian isn't my specialty. My specialty is French or, he's a traditional steak and shrimp sort of guy. Let him decide. People are just looking for ways for good things to happen. Maybe the ideas aren't workable, maybe they are. It's just brainstorming, throwing ideas around. Things evolve out of discussion, the sharing of perspective. Big and small contributions counting. We've all presented ideas and then someone crosses their arms and says "That'll never work" or, "That's a stupid idea". It's good to have curiosity. Nothing ventured, nothing discovered.
  15. OC/QB's - Whipple WR/Passing Coordinator - Joseph RB - Beckton (?) OL - Raiola TE/ST - Brumfield (?) https://dailyprogress.com/sports/virginia-special-teams-coordinator-ricky-brumfield-will-also-coach-tight-ends/article_430b7bf3-5750-5cf1-a336-5b8d975a4dcd.html It'll be interesting to see what's ultimately decided. Not sure if Ricky Brumfield remains under consideration. With Bill Busch's biggest asset being evaluating talent, is off the field continuing as an analyst the best position for him? And, Ron Brown continuing as he has? Another possibility, could different aspects of special teams be divided among a couple of the coaches (Ex. Beckton, Brumfield) in a configuration? Beckton has done so well with tight ends...I don't know how well he'd do with RB's or if he'd be interested. Special Teams definitely is needing attended to . While a the same time, we can't afford to neglect Running Backs...
  16. You might be on to something. There's something to be said about how a quarterback grasps a ball for sure. Too much, too little...And all the mechanics associated with it!
  17. He's not going to do that? I think he will. To what extent remains to be seen. None of us really knows.
  18. Hopefully Donovan brings some fire. Along with scheme and talent, I'm not sure that Allen pushed buttons enough. Perhaps he can motivate, instill an element of attitude that I thinks been lacking. I do think our talent is pretty decent overall and in ways Greg was bringing it along. The jelling aspect of it has a ways to go.
  19. Whipple's two biggest assets are his experience and quarterback development. I want him incorporating into his scheme a considerable amount of rushing than he has been. Adjustments within games have been an issue for us. I'm hopeful he can help us to do that more effectively. I understand he doesn't signal in plays where there's one to one communication instead. Perhaps Mickey Joseph is involved there where that operates differently. It's an upgrade that's past due in my estimation. Like his predecessors, he doesn't have Big 10 experience. The defenses will be more formidable. He can drawn in good quarterback talent. And, as a veteran will be an asset working alongside Scott. Modest upgrade. B
  20. Raiola has a lot of experience. As an assistant. Now, he'll be on his own. He brings the right mindset. I think he'll bring good energy and will foster tenaciousness among his unit. How well of a recruiter remains to be seen. It's a step up for him. My understanding is that Quinn was our first choice where a deal couldn't be reached. A health issue might've been a factor. Donovan has his work cut out for him and his role will be critical to our success. I'll be cautiously optimistic. B-
