  1. Most coaches call plays based on how the game is going, the idea of scripting is just to establish a few things from the begining and maybe settle the players into the game. i'm awfully skeptical that anyone could predict that deep into a game, and to my knowledge no one does this. i think this would be micro managing too much, but others might feel different.
  2. What does everyone think about Caly's scripted plays to start the game? Me personally I've never been a fan of the idea. I'd rather the play calling be spontanenous based on the situation and not based on how a team defends a certain area of the field. i don't think it's right or wrong to script plays. Seems like there is advantages and disadvantages either way. Seeing that the scripted plays have done pretty well, i don't see any reason why BC should stop with them. This year the problem has been after the script, which is a strange opposite of what the problem was last year? I also read on another forum (aunation.net I believe) Muschamp figured out early on going man-to-man was not going to work (hence our ability to drive the field and score a TD on our 1st possession) so he switched to Zone/Cover-2 and shut down our WR's. That's a problem of not reading the defensive shifts. Scripting or not scripting doesn't matter if you can't read the defense.
  3. 98.7 seconds... this made me smile
  4. Certainly, neither of those guys gives us a guarantee. As to wether or not one of those BCS QBs would've given us a better shot than Taylor, i'll wait till i see what the next guy can do with this team before making a conclusion.
  5. i would just like to say that the biggest reason not to fire BC is that he has only been here three years and he hasn't done a horrible job thus far. 8-4 Alamo Bowl followed by a 9-5 Cotton bowl and North champions isn't terrible, at worst i'd call it average. If this level is so unacceptable for a new coach that he is fired prematurely, what kind of message does that send to potential candidates around the nation about the expectations at NU? I'm not sure if BC is the guy or not. However, I've not seen anything to convince he cannot succeed here. Money is just as good other places, as is the facilities, and recruiting is often easier. I think it's very important that we show coaches around the nation that NU will give a guy time and a fair chance to succeed.
  6. Easy, tiger. i wasn't attacking you or your post. There's nothing to get worked up over. Sounds like we pretty much agree that numbers don't tell the whole story. I brought those things up b/c you showed the numbers and then seemed to use it to argue we couldn't get a much better QB. Did you mean something else when you said "I don't know what 'better' people want? "? I've got nothing against ZT. He did a great job for us and i know we'd be in a world of hurt without him. I'm also excited to see what Keller (assuming he gets the job) can do with this team.
  7. His numbers may be comparable to those of other BCS qbs, but i wonder if this is possibly misleading. For one i can think of the Hawaii qb, and i'm guessing his numbers are comparable. only reason i know about Hawaii is b/c of the press he has gotten, makes me wonder how many other "comparable" numbers are out there. Individual numbers never tell the whole story either. Just for example, Troy Smith was mostly successful b/c of what he did running the football in addition to his throwing. Quite a few of these guys may have sat a lot during the season as well, which would kinda skew things.
  8. Did the article say where you could find tickets that cheap? One of the local news channels here said something to the effect a family of four could attend the Cotton Bowl for less a $100. But everything I've found says the tickets are $90 you have to buy them from a third party. I got mine from TicketsNow.com @$20 a piece, but there are a lot of sites. Just do an internet search for Cotton bowl tickets. many of the sites offer overnight or 24 hour shipping if you are serious about going.
  9. from the sound of people on this board, no one is saying they are upset with the Husker's performance this season nor that they feel we are going to get rolled. most seem to be saying "i'd like to go, but don't have the money". i think that, for whatever reason - already had two big travel games, high gas prices make it expensive, strapped after X mas, combination of these, etc. - is the answer.

Also, as Desmond Howard demonstrated, when they try to talk about other bowls they tend to get the teams mixed up. Since everyobne there is pretty sure that USC and Michigan are playing in the Rose, perhaps the network has restricted content to this one game to be on the safe side....
  11. Couldn't afford to go initially. but now that tickets prices have dropped to within my range, i've made last minute plans for a trip and will be spending new years in Dallas
  12. Our latest committ got me thinking about the O line and what it will look like next year. I'm not very good at projecting these things, so any help or thoughts would be helpful and feel free to pile on the criticism. Here's what i got so far: LT Patrick - 290 Sr. Murtha - 315 Jr. LG Christensen - 300 Jr. ? C Byford - 300 Sr. ? RG Huff - 305 Jr. Slauson - 335 Jr. RT Nicks - 325 Jones - 315 RS Fr. I'm not sure where the others fall in, but based on what i got, the line is looking real big. Especially on the right side.
  13. does anyone know which side of the line (right or left) he plays on or is projected to play on for us?
  14. choosing between the two, i'd prefer to watch v-ball... but that has nothing to do with sports from a sports standpoint, i like bball b/c that's what i played. V ball is somewhat foreign to me, and i look at it the same way as soccer: any game you can't grab onto the ball sucks. comparing women's bball to the men, the nice thing about the women's game is the emphasis on team play and fundamentals. The execution isn't always as high, but in some ways it's a lot more pure than the men's game. Especially at the pro level.
  15. i don't know about the most talented class in 20 years, but it shaping up to have a lot of potential with nearly every player. don't think "third rated" is a very accurate way to describe the high school talent coming in. part of why i think this class is looking so good is because it does a great job of addressing team needs. that's something that can't be measured with stars.
  16. hearing rumors that he is pretty upset. supposedly went on a radio station today or yesterday and blasted the staff. claims he was promised a scholly for his second semester.
  17. mentions Buddy Wyatt, Alabama D line coach under Shula, as a possibility. Before Bama was at A&M. http://www.journalstar.com/blog/huskers.php kinda suprised. usually i hear stuff from this site before anywhere. if someone's already posted this i apologize
  18. i like it, and here is why. One, the big12 typically gets a lot of credit for being a difficult conference to play in. A large part of why it is so difficult to get through this conference is because of the championship game. Take it away and i'm not sure how our conference fairs when compared to the Pac 10, Big 10 or Big East. Two, this year we've seen with Florida how a championship game can give a much needed boost to a team trying to get in at the end of the season. i look at that game as giving us a sort of tie breaker over other conferences. Three, i really don't see why so many think it's hurting us. Oklahoma lost and still went to the NC, as did NU. five of the previous six years we've had a team from the big 12 in the nc game. Four, the way the big 10 determines things often ends up with co-champions... imagine if Wisky had beaten Michigan... what a mess that would be. It makes much more sense that the Big 10 should adopt a championship format rather than we drop ours. I don't have a problem with the Pac 10, because as a 10 team league each play 9 games in a round robin style. The way I look at it is their champion plays 9 conference games just as ours does. And related to two above, the way we play our 9 games is likely to give an edge in SOS over how they do theirs. Five: How else does a 12 team league determine a conference winner? the answer is that is probably doesn't, and the removal of the championship game is probably tied to the disolving of the Big 12 conference. Six: a championship games allows for increased revenue.
  19. What made McBride a good DC? Wistrom, Peter(s), Tomich, Farley, Veland, Minter, Williams , Booker. Yeah, NU hit the defensive recruiting trail hard, and yes McBride made some changes to his system from what he was running in the 80's. At Wisconsin the D was getting the left overs from the offense, that was Alverez's main concern was getting some O players, understandbly being were they have to recruit against. I think that you might see a little more out to Coz's D when NU can field a complete D, yes they have a strong front 4, but I don't think the LB's are as great as many would like to think, not saying they are slouches by any means, combine that with a secondary that was pieced together from nothing and you get results like this season. And actually they didn't do to poorly considering. The thing is, we don’t really know how much talent we have. The linebackers looked good much of the time last season, but Coz’s new schemes have them out of position most of the time. Also, the d-backs are out of position. And what is up with Elmo telling the press that the young d-backs are not ready “next question.” Isn’t it his job to get them ready? Isn’t it the D-coordinator’s job to make sure the CB coach does his job? Bad coaches! Coz has to go! or, perhaps the schemes made them seem better than they were last year. And now that we've run out of ways to disguise the shortcomings, we are seeing them for what they really are... can you really say one way or the other?
  20. USC only scored 7 against UCLA. What was differant about UCLA's gameplan? Well, they blitzed and kept presure on USC. They didn't play scared. They didn't cover wide receivers with linebackers. They used nickel packages. Oh, and by the way, living out here I can tell you...UCLA gets none of the talent. They get all of the leftovers. Their defense was just coached better. If we would have had their gameplan we would have won that game because our offense score more than 7. There is a serious problem on the defensive side of the ball and until it is fixed we are screwed. Coz has to go! being born and raised in SoCal, i'm calling bs. those "leftovers" are pretty good... UCLA gets a lot of talented athletes. Why they aren't discussed more among perenial underachievers i will never understand. i also love the logic. "UCLA did it so we should too"... not that personel dosen't have anything to do with it, or the fact that USC played the worst game of the season... by your reasoning, everbody in the Pac 10 that finished higher than Oregon St. should've beaten USC... plus Boise St... man UCLA must be pretty overrated to need a miracle int by the defensive end to hang on for the win over a crappy USC team...
  21. with the down time to the bowl, it seems like a good time to ask if anyone has heard how the frosh have been coming along in practice.
  22. imo, Auburn is better than A&M and this game will have a much higher national profile to it. The A&M game will be the best road win of his tenure regardless, but we've yet to beat an opponent the caliber of the Tigers.
  23. Plus, Lucky is only a sophmore. it'll be his job to lose once Bjax graduates.
  24. I will always believe that had Callahan fit the system around the players he did have when he first arrived in Lincoln that our bowl streak would not have come to an end. Instead Callahan tried to make the players fit his system and it didn't work. i would agree that is true... but how would the offense ever change and improve in the passing game. what you are talking about is just good for that one year, it does nothing for the future to come and pretty much leaves you in the same place year after year.
