  1. I agree now. I've changed my mind from a close game. It has been a LONG TIME since we have dominated a REAL OPPONENT. (No, La-Tech, Maine and Western Illinois don't count). I wouldn't mind seeing a complete blowout by Nebraska leaving pretty much the entire sports media world baffled. I know it's wishful thinking, but would be beautiful.
  2. Yeah...huge difference. One smells like cow $hit and the other like pig $hit.

    Spread

I love how people have to chime in that they don't care about something. Here's an idea, don't open the thread if you don't want to read it or don't comment if you don't care!
  4. Exactly! Ohio State = Texas, Michigan = Oklahoma, Iowa = Nebraska..... What I said earlier that Big 10 is BETTER TOP TO BOTTOM I would take a Minnesota, Penn State, or Wisconsin over a KState, Tex A&M or a Texas Tech. By saying Big 10 is overrated....you are saying the same thing about the Big 12.
  5. How about a triple-overtime game, where there are long stretches of defensive stands and spurts of offensive explosions. Here's the play, 4th and 2 from the 12. Glenn and Jackson in the pro-set. Jackson splits out wide, "HIKE" Glenn up the middle.....dogpile....wait he doesn't have the ball! Taylor rolls left and hits Herian in the back left corner of the endzone (circa '96 with James Brown).
  6. Hopefully Saturday night I'll be able to write a victory one...

    Spread

For all those people who 'just look at the spreads for fun'...It's going down. I've seen one posted at 6, two at 5.5 and the rest at 5.
  8. The Big 10 is the hyped media darling? Huh, I could have sworn that ESPN, NBC, CBS along with personalities like Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd, Whichever Gumble that is among others have endless praise for the ACC and SEC. Throw in Keith Jackson and his Pac-10 love and NBC's bending over backwards for Notre Dame....and I think there are several other 'divas' in college football.
  9. 1) I think that Texas and Nebraska are PROBABLE for the championship...but by no means a lock. Texas has a stronger hold on the South than Nebraska in the North. Mizzou or A&M could easily pose a problem for NU. Plus - and I don't care how many people want to razz me for it....Colorado, if they win only 1 game in a year, they want to beat NU. Huskers will have to be ready to play each and every week. Wake up, we aren't so superior to be guaranteed anything. 2) I don't believe there is one team in the country that is head and shoulders above the rest. It's a good thing. All the changes and work done by the NCAA to the D-1 scholarship and recruiting programs has done what it is supposed to...make an even playing field. This is what we (at least I believe what all true football fans) have wanted. I'd rather see 10-20 teams that could match up well week to week than wait for three or four undefeated teams to prove something at the end of the year. Makes for better season-long football. 3) I'm a Husker alum and fan for life and I live in Iowa. But I don't get the 'hatred' for the Big 10. It's one of if not the top conference in the country top to bottom week to week. Talk about smash-mouth football. Again, wake up. We play Michigan or Ohio State this year...and we'd get waxed. And don't even bring up the Alamo Bowl. That team last year 1- felt slighted and did not want to be there (coaches and players) and 2- had a 50% Mike Hart in the backfield. I just get so tired of hearing Nebraska fans thinking we are entitled to anything and that we are the ever-lasting, overpowering, eternal ruling beast of college football.
  10. I don't think there's a chance of it affecting them. The game is at 11am not at 3am. Not trying to be an ass, but keep in mind these are some of the better athletes in the country. They are young, fit and full of adrenaline. It's not like my 31 year old butt trying to get up on a Saturday morning and strap on the pads after a late night. However I know that I'll be up and fully charged, and in 'game-time mode' by 7am. I have a crazy little hunch that they might be even a little more hyped.
  11. You would hope that the NFL would see it that way, however how many times do you hear them talk about being scared to take a guy, wondering if he can 'handle the load'. Sure they've taken 1/2 the beating, but if you're paying a guy millions (even a 3rd down or role player) you want to make sure he can take a beating. If a guy only averages 10-15 carries a game, it's hard to prove the durability.
  12. They are saying now on Unsportsmanlike Conduct (ESPN Radio) that McKeon has an Achilles "Issue". Not ruptured, not torn, just 'aggrivated'. Ouch.
  13. Pretty sure Memorial Stadium has the 'collapsable' goalposts where they release a hinge and they fold down. How 'bout storm the field, steal the new Bevo and have a sacrifice in front of Woody's Bar?
  14. Yes. Pumped. Very Much So. My wife is already tired of hearing me talk about the plan for Saturday morning. It's OK - a couple of Bloody Mary's and she'll be fine. I'd say I'm more pumped for Texas than USC, because I didn't really think we had a chance and it was still early in the season. Now we are 6-1, have some more games under our belt, are at home and this one has major conference implications. And while USC has been the power for the past few years....wasn't it the Longhorns raising the trophy last year or was I watching a different highest rated national championship game of all time?
  15. I would say one of the reasons Tommie didn't win it is because Heisman voters are swayed a bit by not only if they are a great college player, but their future prospects. They are somewhat reluctant to give it to a guy that they know is done after his college career. Eddie George was a great NFL prospect and won it over Tommie, who was done after his senior year. Having said that, I started by saying I WOULD say that....however Crouch winning it blows that theory right out of the water. So my guess is that they thought Eddie was prettier than Tommie.
  16. Get up early Husker Nation, Memorial Stadium awaits Neither the cold or rain will stop morning tailgates For an 11 am kickoff, the whistles will sound With Mack Brown and the Longhorns coming to town A titanic clash of powers will meet Saturday For control of the conference the two will play This should be the first meeting for these two remember They'll likely meet again in the month of December "Not so fast my friend" as Corso would chime in The defending national champs just may not win The Blackshirts will give UT little relief As they try to turn Bevo into ground beef Colt McCoy is in control and slingin' his gun But let's be real...he's a kid, not Vince Young Trying to throw it to his favorite target Sweed 'OOOOohhhh Carriker hit him so hard that he peed' Jamaal and Selvin give UT a one-two punch But they'll have to deal with our linebacking bunch Texas comes in with a number 5 ranking It's not impossible to hand them a spanking QUADZILLA will handle most of the work for NU Running up big yardage like the old days - it's true Which one will start? Who's coming in next? The endless pounding will leave UT's defense perplexed Expect to see Zac dump some short passes here and there When they try and stop that he'll send one through the air To Nunn, Swift and all 4 TE's he is sure to throw And send a jump ball to the 6'6" one called "Big Mo" A historic game with two teams of 800 wins If a true fan misses this game it is truly a sin Sports Bars and homes should be ready by 9 If you are drunk by 10 - well that is just fine ESPN is missing out, they give no respect Hey Game Day have fun with Clemson and G-Tech This is the national game everyone wants to see But go ahead and pump up the piss poor ACC Can the Huskers pull off their major upset bid? Fans are excited for this like Christmas for a kid Will UT go back to Austin with one more loss? 80,000 + will be there in person with their fingers crossed So get up blue-hairs and get on your feet Before you kick it, celebrate an upset defeat Don't get mad, but yell till it hurts your head Join all the 'crazy kids'...GO BIG RED!!!!
  17. Callahan? Script Plays? Never!!!! By the way...is Matt Herian still on the team? Just checking. Hopefully Texas has forgot about him too and we'll see him doing this in the endzone...
  18. EXACTLY. I thought that about the Alamo bowl last year. It would have been nice if 1) Michigan would have given a crap about the game 2) Mike Hart was at 100%. If we beat them in that scenario it would have been a lot more fulfilling - and would have proven more to the country. Bring your A-game and we'll bring ours. After 60 minutes of smashing heads...the better team will have won. Winning a game because players are out is like getting laid in college at a house party by a hot chick that is totally wasted, and after all of the other 'competition' has left. Sure you still win, but wouldn't it be a whole lot more gratifying if she made that decision in a normal circumstance? (Thinking a minute) No I take that back. Bad comparison. You take the hot chick in college no matter the situation and still feel like the king of the world.
  19. Sorry. Was trying to waste away the end of a Wednesday and break up the monotony of overly-confident fans predicting domination of NU against the world. No wonder most non-Husker fans hate 'the greatest fans in college football'. Soooooo many are blinded by the sea of red to realize that while we may be above average and better than last year....we aren't going to mop up the field with any 'real' big XII opponent.
  20. I personally would call every play to go to Mo Purify. But that's just me...
  21. Jus mix some Red Bull in with their morning Metamucil. That should get them off their butts. If not, I'm sure the whistling and beeping sound of 20,000+ pacemakers going off should be distraction enough to McCoy. I'd love it if Memorial Stadium was like every Duke basketball game....fans hyped and on their feet the entire time. Don't tell me to sit down and stop yelling old man...this is a sporting event, not a bridge game. Tell me to be quiet again and I'll knock your teeth right out of your dentucreme.
  22. Have you ever been in one of the upper rows, of the lower stadium, in the corner of the east/west, under the overhang of the balcony? Try it sometime...you might rethink that statement!!!
  23. The goalposts were torn down in the Golden '90s. A friend of mine made it about halfway up one of the uprights before it snappend and he fell about 25 feet to the turf. Idiot. He was the same guy that went to the Willie Otay execution/protest with a sign that says "I like Macaroni and Cheese". He liked pot. I agree with all of the posts about having class and 'being there before'. Tearing down goalposts should be reserved for teams like Temple (nations longest losing streak) or a 1-AA team that knocks off a major D-1 school (Montana State anyone???). That is...if there are enough fans at one of those games to bring them down. As far as chanting 'overrated' and 'go start the bus'? If that excites you and gives you a jolly feeling, hit up a high-shcool game. They still have a few regular season games left and I hear that the hot dogs there are only 50 cents. The best support for Nebraska (and demoralizing Texas or any opponent) is for all the fans to be on their feet all 4 quarters, yelling, cheering and cracking the foundation of Memorial Stadium. I'm all for having the fans crazed and loud (hey blue-hairs...get with the program or give your tix to your grandkids) but no need to rush the field or tear the place up. With that being said...reality check...we'll have to put together 4 PERFECT quarters to have a chance. 'Should we tear down the golposts?' - Having this discussion is like 2 unemployed factory workers, who've just cashed their enemployment checks in a casino, discussing if they should buy a Hummer or a Corvette when they win the progressive on nickel slots. Regardless, I'll have all my Husker gear on...sitting on the couch...Game Day on...brats on the grill and beer in hand by 9am.
  24. 'Horns 38 - 'Skers 24 Passing - 187 Rushing - 159 Hope I'm wrong...but McCoy is looking strong.
