  1. I can't explain the 2001 team I mean, what the heck? We completely owned for pretty much the whole season. We welcomed the #1 Oklahoma Sooners to Memorial Stadium and that 2001 defense of ours shut them down to 10 points. To this day, I have no idea, what happened at the end? Totally illogical...how did we go from #1 in the nation to getting systematically routed? I think a lot of it had to do with focus and mindset, perhaps; physically, and for the first 11 games of the season (I think it was 11? Maybe 10) we had a team that could have gone down in Husker history as one of the best. I'd have to agree that '99 was better, though. Don't know about '00 - losses to KSU and a pretty big loss to OU.....I mean...it's hard for me at least to judge the 2001 team, because that was really the story of two teams: Nebraska '01, and the post-CU game posers that showed up in Husker uniform to play.
  2. Well, I mean, they've come here and played football for us. How 'good' they were doesn't really matter, they were members of the team. I don't remember DeAnte that will, but Courtney, though short, has certainly played his heart out for us. I don't think it's fair to question what they've done for Nebraska.
  3. Hehe, I used to be a Boulder resident...:-P To be honest, it was a nice place to live, and the public library was pretty darn awesome, and the scenery was just gorgeous. Football aside, Boulder is just a much prettier place than Lincoln.
  4. What the heck? From fifty schools? These kids are rolling in a honeycomb of comfort.
  5. A lot of Packer fans are high on Morency. There are worries about Jackson being able to be a full-featured starter....we'll see. I'm rooting for him.
  6. http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/04/24/...-offense-to-83/ Ha ha...
  7. And what's that - "H-back"? - I'd still prefer it be called fullback, but whatever. I get the hunch that H-back/TE will play pivotal (non-skill) roles that will determine to large extent the effectiveness of our offense, but the running/catching will be up to the WRs and RBs. But I mean, who knows? Didn't we have four TEs catch TD passes last year in a single game?
  8. What gives?? Cut it out guys, seriously. JGS30 is a visiting Jayhawks fan and, from everything I've seen, is a cool guy who was never rude or disrespectful. And even if he was? Show some class.... Of course the losses are a concern, but we have reason to be optimistic about reloading. Whether or not all that pans out or not, well, that's why we play the games out on the field over the course of the season instead of settling the matter in a few posts on a message board. I guess KSU doesn't have any losses worth mentioning?
  9. As always, optimism will probably reign here. It's hard to tell, but this case reminds me somewhat of Matt Herian.
  10. Well, if it makes you feel any better... Sam Keller is the MAN. The Heisman voting committee decided to disband this year because they already decided to award the trophy to him, and the Lions are reporting that they will take him #1 overall, instead of another receiver (this is earth-shattering!). Leadership? Even opposing teams worship Joe Ganz as if he were a god walking amongst men. Marlon Lucky runs a 3.9 40 and Cody Glenn grew a pair of elephant tusks to help plow through defenders. Mo redeems himself, but it hardly matters since he's only one of ten wide receivers to catch over a thousand yards this season. Matt Slauson decides to stop being human, and so turns into a 30-ton Stegosaur. Defensively, Zack Bowman develops magic healing powers and goes #2 overall in the draft, also to the Lions, because their season was that bad. Corey McKeon develops smiting powers and uses them to keep silly immature teammates in line, and to sack quarterbacks. Courtney Grixby swallowed some skele-grow last week - didn't you hear? - and is now almost 6 feet tall! Meanwhile placekicker Adi Kunalic is seen booting field goals from 90 yards out in practice, and Dan Titchener develops an NFL arm. Also, Bill Callahan starts to read minds, and the Cornhuskers are forecasted to demolish Southern Cal by at least 60 points. And to top it off (almost forgot!), the Buffaloes decide to demote themselves to play in the local intramural league...where they wind up with a losing season. :-)
  11. Joel Mackovicka? :-P (isn't his brother named something else, like Justin? I forget which...hehe) Who is Alex Henery, by the way?
  12. The SAT changed to add a Writing section starting last year (h.s. class of '06), but oftentimes this score is basically disregarded. Some colleges don't even consider it - or give it as much consideration as the Math and Reading anyway - because it's so new and there's little basis with which to compare it (i.e, I don't believe they release percentiles yet). In other words, that's definitely a M/V only score. 820/2400 cannot *possibly* be the cutoff line, because that is wayyyy, way, way too low. If there are cutoffs, it makes sense that they don't factor in the new writing section yet, and 820 is a *reasonable* cutoff for the old score system.
  13. I'd hope this team is stronger than that. Look at what Oklahoma lost last season, and they pulled out alright.
  14. No. 800 is the max score on a section. Assuming they're only talking about the traditional reading/math sections, it's 810 out of 1600 where 400 is the minimum. Nt'l average is supposed to be about 1000, so 810 s pretty low. I don't know - is 820 all they're requiring? Is that true for UNL in general?
  15. Er, I guess I shouldn't bring up Zack Bowman..... Last offseason was notably more optimistic, IIRC. But let's hope this season turns out better than last.
  16. I won't question the decision if he gets kicked off. But I wonder why everyone is jumping to support that decision when we were defending him after his first incident? If he was not even going to get suspended at all after the bar incident, why does a DUI push it to "kicked off the team"? There seems to be a little non sequitur there, even if it is a repeat offense. I thought no suspension would be too lenient in that first case, and considerable suspension is deserved at this point. But I also think if he can prove himself somehow, he can work his way back to an amount of respectability that he can be on the Husker team again. I don't know - I don't know any prior examples of players getting DUIs.
  17. I don't like the idea of Witt redshirting, to be honest. I like the fact that we got Gabbert, but with Witt, Gabbert, and Lee in the stable - not to mention Ganz still being in the fold next year - something or someone has got to give. I don't sense an entirely happy ending to this race, and I'd hate to have one of these guys leave bitterly because of it.
  18. Is that supposed to be a 1-star rating?
  19. This is not the same thing as Lawrence Phillips. Mo may have his problems, and he may no longer deserve to be with the team, but I don't think it's fair to compare him to a criminal.
  20. Last season I had high hopes for him. The articles that were about him seemed all positive, he seemed like a good character and a great player. We can't presume to know much about his character - everyone makes boneheaded mistakes, and I don't think his incident was going to stop him from drinking - but I will say he's deserved what he got. Let's not yet jump to berating him or making him a 'bad guy' or anything...it doesn't take a bad guy to get kicked off the team. He definitely should have realized what fine ice he was treading on, though...I think he got off the hook a little with the diversion program, what a waste... From a pure performance side, it's sad...but someone'll step up. I think Swift, Nunn, and Peterson are our top guys...from there on it's unproven potential. Am I forgetting anyone?
  21. I agree that there's a lot of positives BC has brought here, and that he doesn't need to be on the hotseat this year. But I take issue with the part in the article where it says "If NU takes a step back, it isn't a big deal" or something to that effect. It IS. If we don't take the Big 12 North this year, it's a big deal. If we endure another 9 win season (and you have to figure we'll be playing 14 games) then it's a problem. I expect 10, 11 wins - I'd be uneasy with anything else. It sounds like Sipple is scared that we won't take a step forward this year, and he's making excuses for Callahan to justify that even if we don't, it's okay. It's not. But don't worry - we're going to take a step forward this year. At least, we'd better have that mindset going into the season. The one thing we really need to regain is the old husker swagger that came with hanging 60 points on everyone we played and expecting to win every game.
  22. I disagree that we need to get him back "in time" for USC. If USC were the first game of the year, would you be recommending no suspension, or delaying the suspension until another game? His actions speak for themselves, and they merit the same penalty. It doesn't matter *which* games he must miss. If Callahan suspends him for Nevada and lets him back on for Wake and USC, I don't think that will look to good. Anyhow, I'm not saying he deserves to be suspended half a season or anything; just that we should evaluate his suspension independent of his importance to the team. I'm sure we all know that, but sometimes it's hard
  23. '03 was not that bad (9-3, Alamo if I remember)...but I do recall that when we lost that year, we lost *badly.* Weak as the '06 secondary was, I don't think it was as bad, ,although '03 was a good year for our defense, relatively speaking.
