  1. I am not sure how good an idea it is to have legendary players come back and be head coaches. There are a lot of people at Baylor that want to do that with Mike Singletary, we have had three former players as HC's at Texas State, I just don't think anything good comes of it. If they are successful then of course everything is wonderful. If they fail then it's a disaster because it leaves a lot of hurt feelings and tarnishes that players legacy. Turner Gill has done wonders at Buffalo but two years HC experience at a small program does not prepare you for one of the biggest and highest profile programs in the country.
  2. Just wanted to remind all of you Huskers to check out Friday Night Lights tonight at 8 central time on NBC. A large part of the early part of this season has been shot in and around the Texas State campus, inside the stadium and inside our athletic facilities, weight room and offices. Texas State doubles for Texas Methodist University on the show. Check it out, it's a good show and it needs the ratings.
  3. I am rooting for Baylor over sCUm because if Oklahoma beats Texas and Baylor wins that will put Texas in sole possession of last place in the Big 12 South. Wooohooo now that would be sweeeeet
  4. I think Baylor has a chance too, especially since A&M's program is pretty screwed up after the latest Coach Fran brain fart. I haven't seen anyone post this story on here so I will. It seems Fran has been selling private injury information and reports on specific player performance as part of a private newsletter to 14 rich backers paying 1,200 a month to get this kind of access. The deal is the money wasn't going to the football program, it was going into Fran's pocket to run his personal website not affiliated with the University. There is a lot of speculation that Fran may have violated federal HIPPA laws releasing the personal injury information, may have violated NCAA rules which also speak to releasing detailed injury information and that he violated his contract with A&M because he didn't disclose the income from the newsletter. Here is a link to the story that started it all. http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/big12/s...en.34050d6.html
  5. You guys need to look at who Iowa State has played, and lost to, so far and the quality of their defenses compared to Nebraska. I tell you no matter how bad the Blackshirts played last week they still have more talent than Toledo. Not knocking Toledo at all, just the quality of Nebraska's athletes is better. You also have to remember that although Iowa State did beat Iowa they did it by kicking 5 field goals, no TD's. I think Nebraska will be fine this week with few real problems. That big of a line however always makes me nervous, especially for a conference game.
  6. My first reaction when I heard this was.... You mean Texas Tech had a defensive coordinator. You learn something new every day.
  7. It's really tough to judge a future game (Nebraska/A&M) by how a team has played in the past. A&M looked horrible but adjustments should be made in the defense to make the situation a little better. I think you will be able to tell a lot about if those adjustments worked when the Aggies play Baylor. The Baylor offense is pass first and hardly ever run so if A&M hasn't fixed the pass defense problems by Baylor then you know it's a serious coaching problem or lack of talent or both and not just a scheme problem. I have never been a coach Fran fan ever since he put Texas State is so deep a hole that it took us years to rebuild, and I still don't think we are there yet.
  8. On another note UT has just announced a new workout facility for it's players.
  9. By the time you guys get down here to play Texas the whole team may be in jail. From the Austin American Statesman: Longhorn James Henry arrested on felony charges Tuesday, September 18, 2007, 09:59 AM Longhorn football player James Henry has been arrested by Austin police on a pair of third-degree felony charges. The charges are “obstruction or retaliation” and “tampering or fabricating physical evidence.” Combined, bail is set at $30,000. Henry is a redshirt freshman running back from Schertz who has played on Texas’ special teams the past two games. He is the latest in a string of Texas football players to be arrested over the past four months.
  10. I am glad you are excited about it, although being scared isn't surprising. My then wife and I planned ours and I was still scared to death when it actually happened. You will truly love being a Dad. It's the greatest thing I have ever done by a LONG way. Congratulations!!!!
  11. Seems like someone on this board said Texas State was going to "get rolled" by Baylor. If you call 34-27 and holding Baylor to 24 yards rushing getting rolled then I guess they were right. More pressure on the Baylor QB and you guys would be talking about an upset. I am proud of my 'Cats.
  12. Just a few years ago Troy was 1-aa and in our conference. That have always had a good program no matter what level they play, despite the performance against you guys last year. Like Okie State Troy has spent a lot of money on facilities and their stadium, without the benefit of a billionaire benefactor like Okie State. That said the Cowboys have just looked uninspired tonight. Not sure what their problem is but they are in a funk for sure. They have also been killing themselves with turnovers.
  13. I wear a fanny pack to games. Anybody got a problem with that? I think it's sexy 'cause it's leather (mmmmmmmmm)
  14. Being the father of a 12 year old girl I can tell you it's all downhill from here.
  15. Former Whorn QB Peter Gardere, the only QB to beat Oklahoma all four years he started, was arrested overnight for DWI. It's a good thing he didn't forget the lessons he learned in college.
  16. Every now and then the little dog get's the bone, although they are back to back FCS National Champions, and now you know why.
  17. I had nothing to do with writing these but some of them are pretty funny. Enjoy! 1. What do you call a drug ring in Austin? A huddle. 2. Four UT Longhorns in a car, who's driving? The police. 3. The UT Longhorns have adopted a new "Honor System". Yes your Honor, No your Honor. 4. The UT Longhorns knew they had to do something for their defense, so they hired a new defensive coordinator: F. Lee Bailey. 5. How do the UT Longhorns spend their first week at fall practice? Studying their Miranda Rights. 6. What do you say to a Longhorn in a suit? Will the defendant please rise? 7. If you see Longhorn football player on a bike, why don't you swerve to hit him? It might be your bike! 8. The Longhorns employ scouts. But to look out for cops, not to scout high school kids. 9. I heard a rumor that the Texas Department of Corrections plans build a new prison in Austin, Texas in order to allow Longhorns to walk to school. 10. What do you call it, when a Longhorn goes on vacation? Time off for good behavior. 11. Why couldn't the Longhorn get into a huddle on the football field? It's a parole violation to associate with known felons. 12. Obviously Coach Mack Brown is not paying his players, if they have to resort to robbing people. 13. Book 'em, Horns!
  18. All of his "dealings" were in the NFL. Mack also only had Williams for his first season at Texas, John Macovich recruited Williams and coached him for most of his Texas career.
  19. I think a lot of Nebraska's season rests on the results of three games. First USC, early test of how good the Huskers really are. Second Missouri, clash of the number one and two in the North and three Texas, what should be the North power against the South power. Win two of those three and I would be willing to bet Nebraska is in the Big 12 championship game. Just an outsiders guess. I think there are other critical games, A&M, K-State and Kansas among them and Iowa State is a total unknown but should be improved, but I think the USC, Texas and Missouri games are the key. Since I already have my tickets I am betting on Nebraska being in San Antonio on December 1st.
  20. I really wish we at Texas State would have gotten an at large bid. 37-23 record with wins over Rice, Oklahoma and two over Notre Dame with close losses to Texas, A&M and Baylor (although one Texas game and one Baylor game got out of hand on our part because of bad pitching) I think it would have been fun to play you guys in a regional. I think we would match up against each other very well. Oh well there is always next year.
  21. If for some reason Mizzery does win I will help you get revenge by making three of their fans very very poor
  22. We wanted to know that too on the Bobcat board since we have picked up UT guys before. The answer according to someone there is that both will be going to Navarro JC to get their grades up and both will likely return to UT if that happens. They will likely play at Navarro this season and be back with the 'Horns next season if their grades improve.
  23. I it true they are spending athletic department money to replace all the toilet seats in the men's dorm with new padded toilet seats to ensure comfort.
