  1. Player: Beau Allen Hometown: Minnetonka, MN Position: DT Height: 6'2" Weight: 300 lbs. 40 time: 5.13 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Stanford, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame Favorites: Minnesota Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: True DT plays with a mean, physical style. Posted 47 tackles with 3 sacks as HS junior. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20%. Slight lean towards homestate Minnesota. Article here http://recruiting.scout.com/2/848689.html comments that his mom likes Bo because he is "a hard ass". This guy could mold into a good DT here under Bo and we need DT help.
  2. Added offer from Alabama. http://nebraska.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=849053
  3. From Husker Journal: MARCH 18, 2009. PREP STAR SEAN PARKER, SAF, 6-0, 185, HARBOR CITY (NARBONNE), CALIFORNIA Sean has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, Stanford, Georgia, Penn State and others. “I like all teams right now, I don’t have any favorites.” Parker said “I went to Washington camp I liked it there. I enjoyed myself there. I got to meet all the coaches many of them have NFL experience. There is a lot of history at Washington.” Parker said “I like the coaches at Colorado.” Parker said, “They are laid back. The coaches are fun to hang out with. Coach Hagan is recruiting me, he’s a cool guy. He came up last year at the school to see me.” Family In Georgia “I like Georgia because they play in a competitive conference and mom would be willing to move to Georgia, so I will be close to her, if that’s where I go. I have an uncle that lives in Georgia and some cousins. I don’t hear from Georgia coaches a lot” Parker said “I like the history they have up there,” Parker said, “I like how all the players love playing for Paterno. I like to meet him. It’s possible I will visit Penn State but it’s too early to tell right now.” “All schools are recruiting me pretty hard. It’s all mild on all schools right now. I might get some more offers. I’m just working hard don’t let that (recruiting) get to my head.” Parker said Academics A Priority “The thing I’m looking for in college most is academics that’s what I want to accomplish the most before football. I will take all my visits during the season, if not it will be after.” Parker said Parker said he also likes Minnesota. Parker likes the fact that Minnesota has a new stadium, they are a team on the rise and he has a chance to play early at Minnesota.
  4. Player: Chase Rome Hometown: Columbia, MO Position: DE/DT Height: 6'3" Weight: 275 lbs. 40 time: 4.7 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: Per ESPN, "Rome plays defensive end in high school, but with his current build it is hard to imagine he will not grow into more of a defensive tackle's build and that is not really a bad thing. He is a tough player versus the run and you can envision him having success inside. He has a solid get-off. He is very good at playing with his hands and consistently will bring them when coming off the ball. He can engage and separate from a blocker. He plays with good pad level and can take on a blocker and hold his ground. At the end position he does a good job of feeling blocks and staying square and squeezing down. He is not a kid that will fly up-field and be a menacing presence, but he will be in position. Moves well laterally to play along the line of scrimmage. Displays solid straight line speed for his size. Does a good job of being able to shed from the blocker and is a solid tackler. He has a good motor and stays active and plays until the whistle...more here http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/t...amp;season=2010 Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20% We should have a good shot at this kid. I think the presence of Bo and our need at D-Line should make us attractive.
  5. He puts Kansas as his early leader. He is also expecting offers to come from Mizzou and Northwestern. Looks like a good prospect.
  6. From Husker Journal: MARCH 13, 2009. PREP STAR A J DERBY, QB, 6-5, 220, 4.6, IOWA CITY, IOWA A J has offers from Nebraska, Iowa, Alabama, Stanford, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Florida State and Illinois Nebraska Junior Day’s “I liked Nebraska’s junior days a lot,” Derby said. “The coaches are real personal. I got to meet all the coaches. I met Coach Osborne that was real cool. I got a private tour because I was an hour late, a private tour of everything. Their (Nebraska) facilities are top notch. They put a lot of time and money into them.” “I went to the Texas and Nebraska basketball game. I met with the quarterback coach (Watson) at the game and got to talk with him.” Derby said while at Husker junior day’s Spring Game “Right now Nebraska wants me to go to their spring game because they (Nebraska) say it will be sold out, which you wouldn’t think a spring game would be sold out. I would like to see some game on my official but I’m not too sure. I will take visits during and after the season.” Derby said Iowa and Nebraska Similar “It (Iowa) was like Nebraska their coaching staff is real personal. They make it like family. Coach Doyle is one of the best strength coaches, all their coaches are great guys.” Derby said Derby is no stranger to Iowa Hawkeye games. “Game day at Iowa is fun a great atmosphere. Tailgating is a big thing at Iowa City.” Derby said, “I like Iowa’s facilities. About five years so they built a new press box. They keep up grading them (facilities) about every five years.” Last summer Derby went to one day quarterback camps at Florida and Oklahoma and worked with their QB coaches. “I worked out with Coach Heupel (Oklahoma). I didn’t see a game and all at OU but I saw where it would be a great game day atmosphere.” Derby said Travel to Florida Last Year. “I liked it at Florida.” Derby said, “I actually went to the Miami and Florida game. Game day was a great atmosphere, very loud. It was kind of hot but it was sweet.” Las Vegas “I haven’t figured out my summer schedule yet, but actually this weekend before spring break I’m going out to Las Vegas for the Steve Clarkson camp. He worked with Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Leinart. I’m all excited about it. I heard he teaches the best technique which should help me improve my game.” Derby said Busy Mail Man “I get a lot of mail,” Derby said, “I opened most of my mail. I’ve been sick for two days so I’m behind. I’ll go to spring break so I’ll be more behind.” Derby said he has no Leader. He will select school how he feels, place where he can be with other people and start a life there. Distance is not a factor.
  7. I agree with a lot of the players already mentioned. My 2 cents: Lee/Spano/Green - I think this is Lee's job. Spano is a darkhorse and I would not be surprised to see him get playing time. Unless Green is just off the charts, I think he will redshirt. Dennard/Amakamura/Blue - who emerges as a lock down starting CB? Or does someone take over for Culbert for depth at safety? Holt/Brooks/Henry/Gilleylan - it's time...who is going to emerge as a critical WR for us. Mendoza - how will he fit in getting touches in the offense. Compton/Whaley/Fisher - I expect these LB's to compete hard and get playing time.
  8. Player: Jarvis West Hometown: St. Petersburg, FL Position: ATH Height: 5'7" Weight: 165 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tulsa Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: Return specialist is known to be a burner (Scout reports a 4.3 40 time). Has deep speed as a WR and shows exceptional burst/acceleration. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 15%.
  9. From Husker Journal: MARCH 10, 2009. PREP STAR CALEB LAVEY, LB, 6-4, 210, 4.6, CELINA, TEXAS Caleb is a national recruit and has offers from, Arizona, Arkansas, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Stanford, Notre Dame, Michigan and others The Recruiting Process “I’m going to summer camps which will help me narrow the search down a little. I should have it narrowed down before summer. I haven’t had the opportunity to visit all of them yet, I don’t have a top schools list. It would be an honor to play at any on them right now.” Lavey said “I’ve been doing some junior days lately. We (family) are making out our schedule for spring practices at new schools to visit. Ones I don’t see this spring I will try to make it in the summer.” Lavey said “I know I’m going to TCU and Oklahoma State this spring the closer colleges. I’m going to try to make it up to Nebraska, Michigan, Notre Dame and Stanford at the end of spring or early summer.” Lavey said “I’m hoping to make a decision before two a day’s start in Celina. I’m a part of my team right now I want to focus all my time in my high school, my senior season. I don’t want recruiting get in the way of that. I want to commit before the season starts.” Lavey added Nebraska A Special Place “One of the things I loved talking to Coach Papuchis (Nebraska) he was telling me how they have 85,000 plus coming out for the spring game. That really impressed me. They have a tradition similar to Celina where ever one comes out to the games. They (Nebraska) don’t have any other professional sports I know they have an enormous fan base.” Lavey said “I’m not sure yet if I will make Nebraska’s spring game. We still need to fix out the schedule. I know it (spring game) would be awesome game to attend.” Lavey added Nebraska On The Right Track “Nebraska has always been good they are progressing up the charts and everything. They are an impressive team I’m really excited about checking out Nebraska. I know it’s not a big city (Lincoln) like some schools are. I’m just real excited about visiting the campus and check out the atmosphere and the football program.” Lavey said Bo’s The Guy “Bo is a good coach and Nebraska has always been a great football program. He (Bo) is definitely doing something with the team and its working right now and they are only getting better.” Lavey added Family Roots In Michigan “My dad went to University of Michigan.” Lavey said, “I worked in the equipment room there. Every year we would go to Michigan games. My dad loves Michigan and I always been kind of a fan of them. So I’m pretty much interested in Michigan as well as Nebraska.” “I like Coach Rodriguez. It was a little bit hard for him. It’s his first year he will turn the program around.” Lavey said commenting on Michigan’s disappointing season, “Michigan just lost their quarterback. “I’ve been to Texas A&M twice,” Lavey said, “I spoke with Coach Sherman. I’m just really impressed what they have done down there through their football program and academically. Coach Sherman actually told me they are building on their academic facilities.” Is A&M The Leader? “There are a lot of Aggie fans here in Celina definitely I’m an Aggie fan. I root for a lot of teams but A&M is a great school. I can definitely see myself there.” Lavey said Honor to Play At TCU “I really like TCU.” Lavey said, “It’s close to home. To play defense at TCU would be an honor. They had the number one defense three times since 2000. I like Coach Patterson he’s doing a great job. Coach Patterson contract goes past the time I would be there.” “Last year I went to see TCU play San Diego State and Air Force and I’ve been there to see the campus.” Lavey added Mother Graduated From Tech “I’m very much interested in Texas Tech,” Lavey said, “I’ve been to one of their games when they played Texas. Game day is great they have an awesome student section. Tech gets a lot of support from the people in Lubbock, and they have incredible energy.” “My mom actually graduated from Texas Tech and I have a lot family in West Texas.” Lavey added “We plan on visiting Stanford, their academics are great. It’s off the charts.” Lavey said, “I know it’s a beautiful campus. They have a very small student population student to teacher ratio is six to one which is unbelievable.” Is distance a factor? “No not really. I’ll go the best college that suits me. I know it will be hard for my parents to come and see me play buy they will be willing to come up.” Lavey said.
  10. Latest from Husker Journal: MARCH 5, 2009. PREP STAR MATT BROWN, QB, 6-0, 175, 4.6, ALLEN, TEXAS Matt has offers from Nebraska and Arizona. Matt said he is hearing from Oregon, Kansas, San Diego State and others. Husker Fans Are Special “I like the football town (Lincoln) they eat, sleep and breathe football. Something I really like. I haven’t seen their facilities yet, but I heard they are really nice.” Brown said Thoughts On Bo And Nebraska “Bo seen me weight lifting a little bit. I met him he’s really nice a real good guy and I really like them (Nebraska). I’m almost positive he (Bo) will turn the program around. They have been getting recruit after recruit. I’m sure in the next year or two Nebraska will have a national championship caliber type of team.” Brown said When asked if Cody Green being at Nebraska will be a factor. “Not really,” Brown said, “I like the competition. That’s one thing I kind of like. Nebraska they get a lot of good recruits and I kind of feel it will improve my game a little bit. All my life you have to have a mean side to you and take some time to develop. That’s what I like about Nebraska going to a big school where I like to compete for a job and make myself better.” Parents Are Arizona Grads “My mom and dad both went to Arizona just because of that its one reason why I like Arizona. I like what they are doing there (Arizona) their offense and stuff and I like the Tucson area.” Brown said “I think Arizona has a need for a quarterback. We haven’t talked about it much just kind of introducing ourselves. I think they (Arizona) need someone who can run around a little bit make plays.” Brown said Early Playing Time “I would love to get into the mix of things and start,” Brown said,” Contribute to the team some way somehow. Whatever I can do to help their program. I’m up to redshirting too.” Camps And Unofficials “I’m going to a one day camp at Kansas and I might be going to San Diego State and (camp to) Arizona and Nebraska of course. I also have an Elite 11 camp and Nike camp. Elite 11 is at TCU’s practice field. There will be eleven quarterbacks there for film footage.” Brown said “At the Nike combine is where I will do my vertical and 40 and stuff.” Brown said, “I’m invited to the Under Armour All-American Bowl. I was supposed to make their combine about a week ago but I was running track.” “A lot of quarterbacks went to camps in January and got offers. I couldn’t make any camps because of the collar bone injury. I was in rehab.” Brown added Abilities “They (coaches) like how I can make plays with my feet and my arm. My whole thing is if the defense stacks up and drops I’m going to sprint and take off for 10 or 20 yards maybe score. If they are going to scoot up and blitz people and leave receiver open, I’ll sit back and toss the ball.” “I’m looking for a college that fits the education. Education is really important to me I want to finish up school. I also want to have that home feeling when I go to college.” Brown said what he is looking for picking the right college. Undecided When To Commit “I might commit before the season begins,” Brown said, “I depends what I have in front of me. Which one (school) is the best which one is not the best. If I’m not comfortable I might want to wait a little late.” Brown said

  13. Player: Garrett Gramling Hometown: Denton, TX Position: OT Height: 6'6" Weight: 305 lbs. 40 time: 5.2 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, Arizona, Arkansas Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: All-state honorable mention selection. Reports a 290 bench and 405 squat. States he is best as pass blocker, wants to improve cut blocking downfield. Plays in spread offense with QB Scotty Young who has been offered by other Big 12 schools and more. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 10%. Known to be a long-time fan of Oklahoma so OU offer would be difficult to beat for him.
  14. The more info. that comes out (i.e. Sipple story), the more it seems like we should be glad this took place now and didn't blow up later. I have read other good posts...Bo can't put up with a player and his dad dictating who he plays and demanding he name a starter, etc. If this is what truly happened, then I applaud Bo for running the program how I would want it to be run. We've got good QB's on this team...somebody will take the reigns and become the starter...I have no doubt the staff will find out who is best prepared to do that. I trust Bo to bring in guys that will compete and pull for the team whether they end up starting or not. It seems to be a theme when I read recruits take on Bo that basically, "he is straight up...he does not BS or sugarcoat you...he tells you it won't be easy, etc." I don't think we would want it any other way.
  15. From Husker Journal. LUCAS VINCENT, DE, 6-3, 260, 4.9, OLATHE (NORTH), KANSAS Lucas has offers from Nebraska, Kansas and Kansas State Junior Day’s At Nebraska “I liked it a lot down there (Nebraska) the facilities and everything was really nice. The facilities are great the weight room, student learning center. There are tutors all throughout the day.” Vincent said “I liked junior day’s itself,” Vincent said, “I got there (Lincoln) at 9 AM and left at 2 PM. We got showed around we got fed some pretty good food. We had hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza. We ate at the club area in the stadium. We had a chance to meet a bunch of guys down there.” “I met most of the coaches. I spent most of my time with J. P (Papuchis) were we talking about wrestling and all of that stuff.” Vincent said First Offer “Nebraska was the first team to offer me and that means a lot. Nebraska is a great program, they are getting back on track it is a great school. I plan on going up there (Lincoln) for the spring game and summer camp.” Vincent said “I’m going to Kansas State on March 7 for junior days. I talked to Coach Clements about it.” Vincent said. The Legend “Growing up out of Olathe North you had to watch Kansas State that’s when Darren Sproles played, of course he is legend. I watched him grow up.” Vincent added “Kansas State coach talked to my high school coach, he wanted me to call him. So I did call and was offered a scholarship.” Vincent added “I like Kansas its local,” Vincent said, “My family can come and see me play. I went to about four Kansas games last year. Game day is pretty intense there all the fans get into it.” “I’m not going to Kansas junior days; I have regionals for wrestling this Saturday. I like Kansas I’ve been out there a couple of times.” Vincent said New Facilities “Kansas has the new Anderson Complex. They have a weight room, a whole student center, training room, indoor training and plays lounge.” Likes Oklahoma “I would really like to visit Oklahoma just to see what it is like out there. I’m going to there (Oklahoma) camp they just sent me the information and about the All-Americans that played there. I haven’t looked into any other camps yet but I will probably make five or six of them.” Vincent added “I hear from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado State, Oklahoma, Arizona and Iowa State. My coach told me once I get that first offer they will start to roll in.” Vincent said Abilities Coaches say I quick off the ball. They like my intensity I bring to the game. Coaches didn’t say what position I will play in college. I’m trying to figure out myself it depends how much I grow.” Vincent added
  16. From Husker Journal. I'll put NU's academics up against LSU anyday...plus we have LSU's former defensive coordinator as the top man here! Go Bo! FEBRUARY 16, 2009. PREP STAR JORDAN ALLEN, DE, 6-6, 245, 4.8, WEST MONROE, LOUISIANA Jordan has offers from Nebraska, LSU and Tennessee Look Mom I Have An Offer! “Nebraska sent me the offer in the mail to my school. They sent it actually during football season. That was unexpected to me I really haven’t had any letters from them,” Allen said. “I took it home it was like Mom I have an offer and a full scholarship to Nebraska. It was like really! “My whole family went insane. It (offer) definitely shocked me. It’s been an experience already and I’m not going into my senior year yet.” Allen added. Likes What He sees “I really haven’t checked Nebraska out or anything. I like all the pamphlets they sent me. Just looking at their campus, facilities and stuff it looks nice. I’m just going up there and get a good look at it all.” Allen said “Nebraska is trying to get me up, there for the spring game but it’s not financially for me and my family. If I go to Nebraska it will be for an official visit during the fall for a game.” Allen said “I’m definitely interested in Nebraska,” Allen said, “They seem like a pretty nice school as far as I know. I haven’t kept up with them a whole lot.” “I like Bo Pelini. I heard he is a pretty good coach. I haven’t met him. I think he sent me a letter trying to get me to e-mail him. I really haven’t found the time between work and working out and stuff like that.” Impressed With LSU Academics “One think that impressed me when I was down there (LSU) at junior days was academics.” Allen said, “They provide you with everything to get your grades up. It’s real impressive.” “One thing that impressed me was talking to Coach Miles.” Allen said, “He’s real down to earth. He’s one of those guys where he wants to meet with you before he gives a scholarship. He wants to see what he invests in. Other teams like Nebraska and Tennessee and just send you offer’s. That’s one thing that kind of stood out at LSU. Les kind of actually visits with me, get to know me and my family before he offers.” Faxed Offer From Tennessee “That (offer) was kind of random. I went to class on day and one of the coaches came up to me gave me a faxed letter from Tennessee giving me a full scholarship. They wanted me to fill out the questionnaire and send it to them. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to do any e-mailing. I’m going to look into it.” Allen said “I would like to visit Tennessee they have a pretty good legacy over there. I will probably go down there in the fall, that wouldn’t be a bad trip.” Allen said Allen said he is hearing from Michigan, UCLA, Auburn and Alabama “Michigan might offer me. They actually had a recruiter come down here last September and met with me in the office. I haven’t talked with him a whole lot since then.” Allen said Facebook E-mail “Actually Luther Davis who went to Alabama sent me an e-mail from his Facebook account and told me I need to check them out.” Allen said Playing In The SEC “At first, well I definitely wanted to play to play in the SEC.” Allen said, “Since other schools have been sending me letters, I’ve been opening up my mind to it. I know the SEC that’s where all the defensive players come from. I know to be successful I’ll probably need to stay in the SEC. There are other schools out there that are successful.” Texas A Possibility “My counselor is talking to me. He’s kind of a football person. We have been talking a lot about checking out Texas for spring camp. I also have to fill out a questionnaire for that. That’s also a school because it’s still close to home, it (Texas) maybe not be in the SEC. What Allen Wants To Make It The Right Fit “I’m looking for a good fan base, environment and city. I would like to have a city where I know I’m save when I’m going out driving. That’s the only thing that kind of worries me about LSU. I know there are some parts around there that you know not to be around.” Allen continues on, “Academics are top of the list. I love to have coaches that I can work with. That’s one thing LSU has. The defensive coordinator, the defensive line coaches are brand new that they just got and they want to meet with me.” “I’m going to visit around the ones I like at the end of the season.” Allen added

  19. Player: Lucas Vincent Hometown: Olathe, KS Position: DE/DT Height: 6'3" Weight: 267 lbs. 40 time: 4.91 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: All-state selection had 9 sacks in junior season for his HS. He is also a stand-out wrestler. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20%. We are the first to offer and he is in neighboring state. We will battle other Big 12 north teams for his services but nice to beat Kansas and Mizzou to the punch.
  20. I'll throw some pure speculation. He takes Chiefs or Rams job now. He waits a year and then goes to Cowboys? Or he waits a year and replaces JoePa at Penn State. If he doesn't take another NFL job, maybe he considers college? I think Gruden would be very good in college. Very good motivator. At Penn State he could be a consistent winner in the Little 10.
  21. Completely agree. I am glad Bo and staff are doing this at NU as it is essential to getting our program back to the very elite. These kids that can't take the competition...well, let them go play at places like... Kansas.

    BCS

Good game tonight. I thought Florida would win but I expected more points from both teams...maybe like a 38-31 Florida win. As I said before, I think Florida vs. USC would have been the best match-up this year and I think those two teams were the best teams this year. I would vote Florida #1, USC #2, Utah #3, Texas #4, and Oklahoma #5. Tonight I wasn't sure who I was going to root for and what happened was that I found myself rooting for both offenses, especially Tebow and Bradford. I like both of these QB's and enjoy watching them (I like both of these guys as QB's better than McCoy). Tebow just wills his way to victory and it is awesome to see...I think USC's defense could wear him down maybe and that would be a great match-up. Bradford did well tonight but the OU management of the ball in the red zone killed them, thus the Chokelahoma moniker will continue to stick as they lose 5 straight BCS games. Trying to pound the ball near the goal line when Florida's defense was stacked up like that was stupid. They should have gotten the 3 on that first drive. On the second drive, Bradford threw a mistake and it was costly right before half. The contrast between Meyer and Stoops was on full display. Meyer was smug and calm while Stoops was tense and whiny. Whenever I saw Stoops and Venables I rooted for Florida as those guys are annoying. You can see them both just unravel in big games. IMO OU is not at the caliber of players or coaches that Florida and USC are at (Meyer vs. Carroll would be epic). A good year...I have no problem with Florida...they should have been there and they won. They are #1. OU got in and some other good teams were left out. If Texas was there, Florida beats them as well. Florida would beat Utah also. Florida vs. USC is a pick 'em IMO.
  23. http://nebraska.scout.com/2/826891.html Article gives Pelini credit for restoring Nebraska's attitude. I really appreciate how Pelini and his staff don't sell any players short...if you earn it, you will play. The attitude is one of maximum effort and this staff has ability to get it out of players. This is what I wanted back at NU...Bo, props to you and your staff for a great job this year...I am excited for next year already!
  24. Agree with your assessment pretty much. More on Gator Bowl...I thought Steinkuhler had one of his best games this year in the Gator Bowl. So glad to see Castille run it and not put it on the turf...he was clutch with Helu and Lucky dinged up. Also for the Gator Bowl, I would say Henery and Peterson both get props from me. Suh was awesome and Ganz was not going out without a win.
