  1. He is visiting this weekend. Anyone know more about this kid? He has some other January visits as well to Michigan State and Cal.
  2. I hope Compton is N. We have a need at LB. This kid could play a ton under Bo. The fact that he is sticking to coming for his visit is good news. We have just as good a chance as the other teams he may be considering. I think the new staff appreciates that.
  3. Welcome, David! Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6qesfTwkaY
  4. I hope Lucky stays...he can be a team captain and leader on offense. He's primed for a great senior season.
  5. Linky: http://www.cleveland.com/sports/plaindeale....xml&coll=2 He is not staying with West Virginia. This kid has been through a lot. I would still like to see him as a Husker. Is the new staff contacting him? Biggest surprise I read in this article is that he was going to play CB here at NU? I had him pegged as speedy slot WR. I thought Watson would be contacting him and maybe Beck now also. Heck, let Bo turn him into a stud CB. I just like this kid and wish he would consider NU again...I think the offense we run will suit his style more than Callahan's ever would. If he ends up on defense, he just got a major upgrade from what we used to have. My understanding was his family really liked NU...
  6. Linky: http://www.wholehogsports.com/adg/212907 Article on Arkansas recruiting mentions Smith "has narrowed his list down to Nebraska, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida, and Tulane". This same article mentions status of recruit Khiry Cooper.
  7. Linky: http://www.wholehogsports.com/adg/212907 Article is on Arkansas recruiting and mentions Cooper as now having an offer from Oklahoma but that Nebraska and Arkansas are recruiting him the hardest. Same article also mentions recruit P.J. Smith.
  8. Williams is one I am going to keep my eye on. If he was considering coming back to NU, then Bo's performance in the BCS Championship tonight should help.
  9. Has committed to Notre Dame.
  10. Congrats to Coach Pelini! After taking OSU's best shot he coached a great defensive game. Basically in the second half it was Bo's game as his defense was charged with just not letting OSU get back in the game. I thought LSU actually went too conservative on offense in the second half but once they hit 31 it was like they knew there was no way OSU would score that many. That speaks volumes to me about Bo that they just basically said, "OK, Bo lock 'em down"...and he did! I loved the way the LSU defense was flying around out there. It took the INT deep in LSU territory and a great catch by the OSU WR on 4th down to penetrate Bo's defense. Otherwise, OSU was kept in check most of the second half and LSU coasted to victory. I loved the way they kept showing Bo on the sidelines. I think we are getting a great coach and leader. It is going to be fun to compete again and see the effort! They even mentioned on the broadcast that Bo will have The Blackshirts back!
  11. I watched a lot of the Army Bowl. They gave a lot of focus to Terrelle Pryor and the kid did not disappoint...he won game MVP honors and looked very good. Michael Floyd (WR Notre Dame commit) looked very good also. The RB's were not featured much so didn't really see Jonas Gray do anything. Sam McGuffie was featured a few times. Pryor was the best QB and led the East to victory. The West QB's of Gabbert, Crist, and Luck all looked good but nothing great (Pryor stole the headlines). The other two East QB's of Star Jackson (Bama commit) and Marqueis Gray (committed to Minnesota on the broadcast) looked raw but good prospects. I was actually not thrilled with Steinkuhler's play on defense. He did attract some double teams...he played a lot and was never much in the action. I thought he actually looked slow and often trailed the play. He looked like an O-lineman playing on D-line. He may want to stay at O-Line. I did not see Andrew Jones (Mizzou commit) do much of anything and Bryce Givens did not play much (I assume because of recovering from injury). Trevor Robinson looked pretty good. Arthur Brown made a few plays on defense and so did Kyle Prater (he looked a tad slow to me though). R.J. Washington (DE Oklahoma commit) and Mike Mauti (LB Penn State commit) seemed to stick their nose in a lot on defense and be involved. DE Quintin Coples looked very good and he is uncommitted at this time. Gerell Robinson committed to Arizona State on the broadcast but I didn't think he had a good game. He got blasted on a block during the game and did not seem to be in on many plays. I sort of watched leisurely so did not catch everything but this was my 2 cents.
  12. As reported from Husker Journal. Looks pretty good for us. Article says he will meet Osborne. DECEMBER 30, 2007. PREP STAR KODY SPANO, QB, 6-2, 198, 4.7, STEPHVILLE, TEXAS Kody at one time was an Oklahoma State commit and is a mid term graduate signee. Oklahoma State promised Kody a scholarship, but had to withdraw the offer because the Cowboys signed too many JUCO mid term players. “I’m taking an official visit to Nebraska this weekend with my parents.” said Kody, “Coach Watson is recruiting me and said the offense that Nebraska will run next season is similar to Stevenville. Watson said Nebraska might run more shot gun next year.” “Nebraska seems like that’s where I want to go.” he said, “I’m not sure if I will commit on my visit or not. I have to make up my mind soon. Nebraska’s classes start January 14.” “I like Nebraska a lot, they have great tradition and Coach Pelini is making some changes. I’m excited about my visit we get to see Tom Osborne.” “My ability is to pass and run, it was like the spread in high school.” “Oklahoma State is still recruiting me.” said Kody, “They (Oklahoma State), think they have room for another mid term scholarship.”
  13. I wasn't so much surprised that WVU won, but that WVU made OU's defense look silly. I thought OU had a fast defense but WVU option and speed were too much. I am not sold on turning us into option all the time offense. Illinois looked miserable trying to run that against USC. I am looking forward to what Pelini's input will be on the offense.
  14. This game was one of the best bowl games this bowl season. I'll be honest...I actually do not like Michigan...they are always on TV, seem to always benefit in the rankings because of their name, frankly are sort of boring to watch for me, and just annoy me for some reason. I am indifferent on Florida but I usually like to watch them when they are on TV. However, in this game I found myself rooting for Michigan. First, I was not excited about this game because I thought Florida would just whack Michigan like 41-24 or something in this realm. I really didn't feel that Michigan was going to be able to stop Florida. As this game went on, it was great to see that Michigan was playing inspired football. They wanted to win for Carr and the staff (who Rodriguez is firing them all!). The Michigan kids were playing football like I want us to get playing back to...conventional wisdom said they had no business beating Florida (in Orlando)...but they said screw that we are Michigan and showed tremendous pride and played great as a team...their WR's were making awesome catches and their guys were throwing big time blocks and driving Tebow to the ground...Tebow got knocked silly a few times where he got thrown in the air and another time where he had like half the field turf stuck in his facemask after Michigan pummeled him. This was the first time I have ever seen Urban Meyer look like he was wetting his pants on the sidelines...he had that look like he knew he had not prepared because Michigan was to just roll over given all the stuff their program had been going through of late. I was surprised Meyer did not have his team ready...Florida battled back but this was Michigan's day. Congrats to Michigan...they showed what playing inspired team football is all about. Even though I am not a fan of Michigan, I give them serious props for that game...awesome game.
  15. Yes, I was extremely bummed when I heard the announcement that USC was going to play Illinois in the Rose Bowl. I knew that was going to be a major blowout. I really was hoping the Rose Bowl would go against tradition and take Georgia over Illinois (especially because they could not take true Big Ten champ Ohio State anyway). I mean if they didn't have Pac 10 champ vs. Big 10 champ true match-up, then this would have been good year to break tradition. A USC vs. Georgia match-up would have drawn a ton of interest and been a better game. I don't know...perhaps Sugar Bowl had already snagged Georgia so Rose could not get them anyway. I was indifferent towards Hawaii. They earned their spot this year. Especially after what Boise State did last year, there was no way you were going to keep an undefeated Hawaii team from a BCS game. Hawaii rode the feel good wave of what Boise was able to do last year...but after their performance tonight, Hawaii ironically just destroyed the good will Boise had built for mid-majors in the BCS games. I don't think anyone wants to see a mid-major in a BCS game unless they have truly knocked off some quality opponents in their regular schedule.
  16. Player: Brian Moore Hometown: Klein, TX Position: LB Height: 6'1" Weight: 197 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Tulsa (soft verbal) Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Bid Red Report: Assessing the talent: Outside LB looks like he could fit as S also. Appears to be in mold of Culbert and Thenarse and would start out on special teams. Video link here shows speed in gaps but needs to add weight/strength as he is dragged by bigger players. http://www.rivals.com/video.asp?sid=1014&a...mp;vidid=116083 Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 25% New staff visited his HS recently and offered him and his teammate DE John Youboty. Both may visit in January. HuskerBoard thread on Youboty is here: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24147
  17. Who can we target at CB? Any new names out there? And what is the latest on Compton? He could be huge here at NU as we have great need at LB. You can bet Bo is going to make sure our defense is one of the best! IMO, Mizzou is not going to be on top for long. They don't have the fanbase and exposure that NU has...I've said it before, some of these decommits are going to regret their choice.
  18. This kid plays at Bo's high school (Cardinal Mooney in Youngstown, OH). Unfortunately it looks like he is playing where Bo did at Ohio State and has committed early. Who knows, maybe we can still make inroads with this kid as he looks like a great prospect.
  19. Player: Chris Freeman Hometown: Trotwood, OH Position: OT Height: 6'9" Weight: 325 lbs. 40 time: 5.2 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Miami, Penn State, Kentucky, Florida, LSU, NC State, Michigan, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Alabama, West Virginia Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: Basketball player has emerged as raw football prospect. This kid is big! Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 25% We are the first to offer.
  20. I tend to agree that we need to look at Asante at LB. I didn't think he played well in coverage. No INT's? I do recall that he would come up and help stop the run after the opposing RB blew past our D-line.
  21. Player: Alonzo Whaley Hometown: Madisonville, TX Position: LB Height: 6'0" Weight: 213 lbs. 40 time: 4.58 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, LA Tech Favorites: Signed with Nebraska Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: All-time leading tackler for his HS. Named first team 3A TX all-state team for second consecutive year. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 100% Our new staff visited his HS recently. See this link which talks about Alonzo and his brother, Chris Whaley, who is a top '09 RB recruit we also have offered.
