  1. You can check out the Lincoln Visitors Bureau website or AAA to see what blows your skirt up, er tutu, being from LA LA land. Museums and the zoo are good if you are so inclined for some personalities. Here's the link I posted on another call for info on Lincoln. undefined Seriously, I have many family members from LA coming back for the game and we have a banquet room at a popular dining establishment reserved from 11:00 to 3:00 so the 38 so far can reunite. Several came back to Lincoln from Orange County without tickets just to experience the game day in Lincoln we painted for them when were in Los Angeles last September. Kick is 7:13 as another astute member noted but DO NOT MISS the Tunnel Walk approx 15 minutes before. (Sorry, you probably won't see it on tv - it's an in stadium experience) Enjoy the atmosphere...BTW - ticket prices are dropping. Noticed on EBAY one scalper bidding on most of the remaining auctions. We'll see if his gamble is correct. Wait until kick to see if tix are available before going back to the bars. You could get a ducat for face value when the scalpers need to unload remaining inventory. Here's the Link to a good summary on travel tips: http://www.darthhusker.com/guide.htm
  2. Get to "O" Street or the Haymarket anytime after 11:00 and you'll be fine. Both areas are easy walks to the stadium. As for entering the stadium, just don't miss the band and tunnel walk 15 minutes before kick. Getting downtown that early too you should get a great parking spot. Don't worry, you won't be gigged $50 to park like I paid outside the stadium in LA LA land last year....but I did enjoy the tranquility of looking at the Olympic Dive Pool from my tailgate spot. Welcome to Lincoln! BTW, I posted a great link on where to go and other tips in another message requesting 'help needed' on this board. Check it out. TopekaHusker
  3. Check out this link. Maybe a little outdated but good summary: http://www.darthhusker.com/guide.htm Topekahusker
  4. Bottom line...Callahan showed confidence in his offense to get two yards. He just needs some imagination to call a successful play and not one that was not working most of the day. Darn if I know the ball is going to Lucky, as did the announcers, think WF knew it was coming? BC needs to find a mis-direction play in the WCO. One of my favorite plays in the option was the wingback reverse to keep the defense honest from penetrating straight ahead.
  5. Missing from the arsenal is some kind of mis-direction. When the opposition uses it slow our penetration it has historically been successful against BC teams. We need to design a play to slow the defensive penetration taking away holes for Lucky. I said this last year and it was needed today.
  6. Time for backups....I'd hate to have either Keller or Luckey get dinged or worse. Let's get all the starters out NOW. Big game next Saturday.
  7. OOPS...got excited over the last td and touchback....here's the link Go to this link....Yahoo has substantially upgraded their live on-line coverage of the game. I have two windows opened on my computer, one for huskerboard and one for yahoo so I can see upgraded game stats both for the teams and individuals. It's interesting to watch the ebb and flow. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf
  8. Greetings from Topeka gang. First half impression of Keller? C+ so far? Loved it that HCC let him air it out at the end of the half.
  9. Hey Joe...welcome to the board and the Husker Nation. I've started and owned several business' so take a tip to this soon to be SCOR resource. Change your attitude: ""I'm from New York and own a pizzeria here in Omaha. My reason for not liking the Huskers is that on game day my business suffers and how can I support something that doesnt support me."" Get involved with the local Husker Support Clubs big time. Offer to sponsor a hole at their golf tournaments, if your business model fits make it a neighborhood watch party site. Give discount coupons to every participant of the golf tournaments (tournament sponsors love 'value added benefits' to enhance the experience and it is a whole lot lot less expensive than running ads in any periodicals). I speak from experience as I've used these coupons received by participating in local events to go to new restaurants I have never set foot in before. And I've done repeat business with them because I perceive them as a supporter of things I want to help those with common interests. How do you think the proprietors in downtown Lawrence, KS and Columbia, MO feel about losing a home game and the game day crowds they both give up the next two years to Chiefs Stadium in KC, MO? But the respective athletic programs sold out the 'home' games for a guaranteed $1,000,000 by the Chiefs for moving the games. Case in point...we had a very popular local pizza chain here in Topeka with Lincoln ties. We used to have our meetings there with very good attendance. But everytime we asked for a modest sponsorship of something or a token donation they were silent. We moved our events to other locations and the word got out among the membership. Now they are out of business. I'm sure they had other issues regarding their business but without the support of local club it may have been the last drip. I've been to Omaha, Beatrice, and Nebraska City returning to Topeka after home games in Lincoln for dinner and business in those restaurants was busy with fellow attendees of the game looking for a place to eat among fellow members of the 'Husker Nation'. Hope that I've helped. Otherwise it will be back to New York and trying to make a living off of supporters of Rutgers, Syracuse, or the rag tag rugbee boys of Central Park.
  10. I ALWAYS bought tickets outside the stadium for less than face in years past when I needed them until two years ago. It was that bad Karma and KU's first win in decades that my wife and I got locked out two years ago. So we went up to the hill and watched the game from the 'sky box' seats. Not a bad alternative and it was free. The decision on this year's options are up to you.
  11. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Born a 'sker 53 years ago 2) What/who led you to The Nation? My dad had me go to the principal's office in grade school to have him contact the U about buying 'knot hole seats' so I could go to the games with him when Devaney first got there and he started turning the program around. I did not like going to the principal's office but did like going to Lincoln with dad. 3) Where are you from originally? Beatrice 4) Where do you live now? Topeka, KS 5) Favorite Husker memory? Since this is a family board will not give you number 1 but my second best memory has to be the game of the century in 71 when the whole neighborhood was at my family's home in Beatrice and watching Johnny Rodger's incredible punt return...and Lyle Bremser calling it on the radio in the background. 6) Worst Husker memory? Fiesta Bowl loss to FL State...we had two flights booked home. The one we caught we had to call a cab during the game to make the flight and we were shocked when we got to the airport to see all of the RED in the waiting area to catch that SWA flight back to KC. I'm a HUGE fan but I was totally disgusted the way we played that day and couldn't wait to get home. 7) Number of home games attended? Average of 3 per year for 45+ years so ball park 140. 8) Number of away games attended? I'm lucky in that we've been to every venue in the old Big 8, several numerous times. Was at USC last year and attended the last road trip to Texas. Ballpark is 30 total road trips. Saw Gayle Sayers beat us at KU in the early 60's. 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? I have mothballed my Herbie Husker polo shirt. Someday when Coach Callie gets us a National Championship i'll sell it on ebay and retire. 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Anywhere. I got kicked out of a theatre once during a live melodrama for watching a game on my watchman. One of the actors stopped the performance and asked 'what the hell is that?' I replied I was watching the huskers and he said turn it off or leave even though I had on earplugs. I said see ya and went out to the parking lot to watch the ending. I'm sure my wife still has the details in her 'black book' on me. 11) Favorite all time player? I'm biased as we were fraternity brothers but... I Back "Touchdown" Tony Davis took on more linebackers and d backs than any other player I have ever seen one on one. He rarely tried to run around them. He took put his helmet down and tucked the ball and took them straight up and often pancaked them. He jazzed the team and the stadium when he'd get up and fist pump the air. He was great for momentum. Close second is my friend Jeff Kinney. He scored the winning TD in the game of the century over OU and IMHO made OJ Simpson what he was at Buffalo as his UNHERALDED blocking fullback. 12) WCO or Option? WCO - Solich ruined the Option for me. I'm not a football genius, just a fan but when I predict the next play it's time was over. 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Pederson - Byrne is at A&M now. Enough said. 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? I love Herbie until my wife made me mothball the polo shirt. 15) Favorite Husker play? I think it was the first time we ran the FumbleRooskie. We were at Mizzerie and they cheap shotted our starting I-back Jarvis Redwine by rolling up his ankle when he was blocking on a PAT. The chips were down and then we ran that play (prior to replay boards) and I went nuts. 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Anything cool at either Lazlo's or tailgaiting with friends from Beatrice before the game. Not cool is drinking after the game as we have a 3 hour road trip back home. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) NE Kansans for Nebraska - if you are in the area on game day we have a watch site.
  12. The wife had a comittment until later this afternoon so we made a decision not to drive over and get to Arrowhead right before kick and miss the tailgaiting in the cold. Our NE Kansans for Nebraska Club had 5 tickets made available this am so I have a feeling even though it is a sellout, there will be a lot of empty seats tonight. GBR
  13. Loved the double reverse...it will help the O when they get the ball back. The Linebackers can't overpursue.
  14. Why wouldn't you want MiseryAH rated in the Top 10 when when we play them? Get over the weekly rankings and focus on our next opponent. The bigger they are when we play them the bigger they fall!
  15. Who are these announcers? Can't believe ABC would go to Des Moines to find high school commentators that would otherwise be swigging beer on the patio Saturday night.
