  1. Nice meeting you as well, Spartness. And nobody wearing an N on a Husker saturday is ever a stranger!
  2. Dang glad to hear from beamout, and I like your input. I'm with you, I think a 10-3 season would be a successful season for the Huskers, especially with the schedule. However, I'm still hoping for one of those dream seasons that bring home some BCS hardware!
  3. Let's be grateful that we finally have this talent BACKING UP our starters!
  4. You must have forgot about him placing Beck and Freeman upon pedestals. Is this sarcasm? I would guess that one of the reasons Beck (4th on the depth chart) and Freeman (you will redshirt) are not here is that they were not put on pedestals. Good, humerous post!
  5. As far as the RB's, I want the guy that isn't going to make mistakes, can make people miss by running around/thru them, and most important, isn't going to get Zac killed. I think all the RB's have the talent, equal to many and better than most in the big 12, and execution is going to determine who sweats and who doesn't. As far as Octo, he's big, fast, athletic, and very INJURY PRONE. He's had more surgeries (4) than he's had quarters of D1 FB (0...1.5 if you count Maine). Ruud's been there all fall, hasn't missed any time and has probably earned the top spot for game 1. That's not to say Steve isn't going to play a bunch and isn't going to eventually be the starter by game 2 or 3. The Huskers are just fortunate to have the depth they have at Linebacker. Now as far as the secondary........
  6. The issue is COMMON FREAKING SENSE! If the kid came to your door because he just got hit by a car and needed ice for his wounds, would you deny him because your house isn't the ER? Come on. How stupid of BK to do this.
  7. I honestly hope for the best for him. His mom burned him, and had she not commented to the media he would still likely be a Husker. If you take a moment and put yourself in his shoes, he was basically promised the world as THE GUY that was going to put BC's offense on the map. He then manned up and didn't have a problem with Taylor coming here (probably assuming he could surely beat out a 3 JUCO. Then when Taylor masters the offense, takes over, and fans start falling head over heels for him and not Beck, the frustration begins to mount. Add in a big-time frizzled head from Missouri that commits, and top that off with burning the redshirt only to end the season 1-10 passing and nearly costing the team a sure win. He is then injured in the spring and the fans and media are all over him, wondering if he's ever going to pan out. He arrives at fall camp thinking he's got a sure slot at #2 but comes in on a Saturday to see himself listed as #4 behind 2 other guys he's definitely more talented than. So he loses his cool for a few minutes and goes for a drive, probably spouts off to mom while he's crying in the car, and she goes and tells some news guy that Taylor is no Brady Quinn or Matt Leinert and her boy should be the starter. The point is, he went from being everybody's All-American as a freshman to a bust, and it seems like everyone (fans/media...coaching staff?) felt that way. I am more sympathetic to him than Joe Dailey because Beck knew he wasn't going to play anywhere else besides QB. The bad thing is, he should have just competed and won the job instead of thinking it should have been handed to him. But, I guess that's the ignorance of youth.
  8. The staff is very pleased. He is at full strength, and he hasn't seemed to shy away from contact. He will be an enormous upgrade at TE compared to last year.
  9. Here's the outlook I see in 07: QB: Keller RB: Lucky/Glenn/Jackson/Wilson---WOW WR: Purify/Nunn/Swift/Hardy/Holt/Henry/Brooks/Paul---WOW again TE: Tomerlin/McNeill---slight drop OL: Lose Austin & Mann, and replacing Mann w/possibly Roark who I've heard will be bigger and stronger. Will still likely be a drop because of Mann's leadership. DE/DL: Definitely the biggest drop, but we still have Suh & The Beast as well as freshman All-American Barry Turner. We may not be hurting too much. LB: Octo, McKeon, Brandenburgh, Dillard, Ruud---WOW CB: Bowman/Jones/Grixby---WOW again S: Lose Shanle/Rigoni but Thenarse and Culbert may be able to step in opposite Green and be an improvement to this year. I think we'll be nearly as good or better next year. We would have been in bad shape simply losing Taylor, but with Keller coming in, it doesn't hurt as bad. Just my opinion.....
  10. The 3 backs that have been here all know the playbook fairly well and that's really a major reason KW isn't ahead of them. One of the main things the coaches are going to concentrate on when choosing which back to play is who picks up the blitz the best. And don't think it's simply a mental thing or something that can be learned easily. A lot more has to do with the WILLINGNESS to sacrifice your body, usually against a guy that's 250 lbs and runs a 4.5 and is coming full speed. That's a train wreck every time, and guys like Lucky and Glenn never had to do that in HS. That's something that seperated Ross from the others last year, and something that Wilson doesn't mind doing right now. Lucky is the most versatile back we have, but the coaches don't want to stick somebody back there that goes down on 1st contact and that's the biggest knock against Lucky at this point. He is a very good cutter/slasher but needs to toughen up and learn to run between the tackles and take on contact better. He did fairly well in fall camp and will continue to improve I'm sure, but each of these guys still has 2 weeks to show what they can do. I think Lucky will be included in the 11 guys that start, but I don't think when game one ends that he'll have the most carries. I think Wilson will.
  11. The staff is pretty high on Lance Brandenburgh, and if you watched toward the end of the season, he performed really well. He's kind of like Dillard in that he's fearless and tries to blow people up rather than run around them. Cory did have a great year, don't get me wrong, but he did benefit quite a bit from the DL we had. They were able to stand the O-linemen up and allow Cory to roam free and make plays, which he did very well. But the staff was also concerned that Cory didn't take on the blockers and opened up big holes for RB's (Brad Smith had a huge game because of this). Please don't take this as me bashing McKeon. He's a great player, has a great attitude and plays his heart out. But going from a TALENT standpoint and talking to people that watch him perform every day, he may be about 4th or 5th best LB on the team. Sometimes you just can't teach a guy to be more physical. Look at Lydon Murtha and Chris Patrick. If you put Patrick in Murtha's body, he would be All-American for sure. Patrick has the desire to be the best he can and he's fearless. Murtha doesn't have that, and for that reason he may not play a lot this year.
  12. This is purely based on info that someone shared with me who is able to see each practice! RB: Kenny wilson may not start, but is definitely no lower than #2 right now. Look for all 4 guys to get some time, but the staff feels that their 2 best RB's are Brandon Jackson and Kenny Wilson. WR: Mo Purify is hands down the most gifted WR on the team. He'll make some catches this year that he shouldn't and plays the position wonderfully and definitely shows his experience. He will likely be our top WR, and depending on his knowledge of the playbook may or may not start game 1 but will be #1 by game 3 or 4 almost for sure. Game 1 starters will likely be Nunn and Swift if Mo isn't ready. Also, Meno will get some PT this year almost for sure, and Will Henry will almost certainly redshirt. TE: Herian is basically back to his old form, no limits athletically, so he will start. He's heads above every other TE on the team, and Mike McNeill could see some PT this year also, needs to bulk up but has been very impressive so far. LB's: No question it's Stew Bradley, McKeon and Octavien right now. However, Dillard is pushing hard and has had a wonderful camp, will see a lot of PT and don't be surprised if he ends up knocking McKeon off later this year. I know, I know, the same thing was said last year. But Phil came to school fat and out of shape, and the coaches were not happy. He has regained his focus, he's bigger than Cory, nearly as fast and he takes on blocks much better. Cory tends to slide to the side of blockers and open holes where Phil blows the blockers up by taking them on straight up. Cory's knowledge gives him the upper hand now, but the more Phil learns, the more time he will see.
  13. Sorry to all for not being around the website for a while. Having a baby really takes the free time out, but she's getting older, finding her own food on the floor now and leaving more time for Dad to concentrate on the Huskers. Anyway, here's the schedule for the Sidetrack Band in LA Sep 15/16: Friday, September 15, 2006: The Sidetrack Band will be playing at Antonello's in Santa Ana, CA at 3800 Plaza Drive Saturday, September 16, 2006: The Sidetrack Band will be playing at Hangout Pre-Game Tailgate Party in Los Angeles, CA at 700 State Drive (near the Colliseum) I also talked to one of the members of the band and he thought they may be playing in Vegas on Thursday night. If I hear any more, I'll be sure to let you all know.
  14. Wednesday, September 13 - Kansas City(MCI) to Las Vegas(LAS) Flight 1315 Depart Kansas City(MCI) at 05:55 PM and arrive in Las Vegas(LAS) at 06:55 PM Sunday, September 17 - LOS ANGELES INTL(LAX) to KANSAS CITY INTL(MCI) Flight 490 M Depart LOS ANGELES INTL(LAX) at 2:15PM and Arrive in KANSAS CITY INTL(MCI) at 7:20PM Hell YEAH! Going to Vegas on Wednesday to win a few grand before the game so I can buy all huskerboard members all the damn beer they can drink at the tailgate party! Where is everybody staying? My hotel is lined up close to LAX and pretty close the the Coliseum. The bad thing is that it's 45 minutes from the bar that the Sidetrack band is playing at, so I don't think I'll be able to make that party.
  15. They'll be at Antonello's Restaurant at South Coast Plaza on Friday, Sept 15. The tickets are $15 and you can order them on Huskerpedia. There are several packages available w/Husker tickets included, but you have to buy one of the packages to get game tickets. Looks like you can buy tickets to the Sidetrack band by themselves.
  16. We have a $50 million stadium improvement going on right now. How is that not competing with Texas? I know we may not have AS MUCH money, but we still have many alumni who are die-hard Husker fans and will pump some $ when it is needed in order for NU to compete at the highest level. Heck, right now UT is playing catch-up to us, we have the biggest TV screen in college FB and they don't! Again, when you talk about the big sports (baseball/men/women basketball/football/volleyball) we have the resources, just not the abundance of talent next door like they do.
  17. Walked out on Dude, where's my Car? Worthless movie.
  18. What? Aren't you a Yankee fan? Actually I hope the NCAA doesn't do a thing. Because we have more $ and better facilities we are going to be the kings of the North for years to come (at least in football). No other north team can compete with the facilities and resources we have getting pumped into our program. I don't want parity in college football. I want the Huskers to constantly be one of the elite teams in the nation each and every year and teams like Kstate and CU to fall of the face of the earth.
  19. These guys have the same attitude as Husker fans back in the late 90's. They've been on top for 3 years and they see their situation as reloading instead of rebuilding. They look at a team coming to 'their' house that was 8-4 last year and see no reason to be concerned. And unless we go into their stadium and kick them in their teeth, they aren't going to have any reason to climb off their stupid little Trojan horses either. I would rather have their coaches and players overlook NU rather than see what could happen.
  20. I got this email a few minutes ago... "Huskers Announce Home-and-Home Football Series with UCLA" We are pleased to inform you of another exciting series with a high-profile football program. The Nebraska Cornhuskers have agreed to a home-and-home series with UCLA for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The series will begin with Nebraska traveling to the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. , to take on the Bruins on Sept. 8, 2012. The two teams will face each other in a rematch the following season, with UCLA visiting Lincoln and Memorial Stadium on Sept. 14, 2013. Nebraska has faced the Bruins on 10 previous occasions, with Nebraska winning six of the past seven meetings between the two schools. In the last home-and-home series, Nebraska won both games, 14-13 at UCLA in 1993 and 49-21 in Memorial Stadium in 1994. The two games with UCLA will be announced to the media later this afternoon and are the first announced contests for Nebraska in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Earlier this spring, Nebraska announced a home-and-home series with Virginia Tech for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Please see Huskers.com for the full media release later today.
  21. Wow, it's tough to please the masses, eh? We schedule La Tech, people whine about scheduling a cupcake. We try to get PSU in here, hell, we played them just a few years ago, what a waste. I don't think scheduling any big time school is an easy thing. It's been known for a few decades that the Florida schools refuse to come to Lincoln to play. I'd be pretty happy to have PSU come here since they took several recruits from us last year (JB Walton, AJ Wallace). I want the Huskers to rout them a few times and show the east coast recruits that the Huskers are to be reckoned with once again.
  22. It's a really good thing that most of the criminals in society are idiots. Imagine what some planning and thinking could accomplish.
  23. This sissy is definitely not a graduate of Nebraska. If so, it would have read something like "a case or a case and a half."
  24. Rivals dubbed the Huskers "Defensive End U" earlier this year. Here's the link: http://nfldraft.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=539624
