  1. Ive seen crazier things happen.....Like Wisconsin losing in back to back weeks on hail mary passes.
  2. I would hope Big 10 fans would realize this too. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is not only a Nebraska tradition...its a College Football Tradition. Now that this games is going to be played VERY RARELY, you take advantage of it whenever you can. Who cares if it disrupts the Rose Bowl and the B1G vs Pac 12 tradition. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is bigger and more important than that. The Rose Bowl could hypothetically play B1G vs Pac 12 every year for the next 100+ years. Nebraska vs Oklahoma might happen 2-3 times the next 100 years. You play NU vs OU in the Rose Bowl.
  3. Then there are people just like you who believe the game has "evolved" SO MUCH that you MUST throw the ball in order to have a chance to win. Take another look at this sentence....probably the best out of his post. Guy, if you cant see the difference between making in game adjustments and audibles VS changing the style of offense you run each week, then there really isn't much more I want to discuss here.
  4. That is soooooooo much different than changing the way your offense is run each and every week based on the style of defense you are facing. There's no convincing you though. Yes, you're right. More like a night and day difference. In theory it sounds just great to just wave the magic wand and *poof*....you're an efficient spread offense....wave it again next week and *poof*.....you're an efficient power I smashmouth offense......wave it again next week and *poof*......you're an efficient fun & gun offense...... ect, etc. For cfb with it's restricted practices an eligibility rules it's simply impossible to come even close to excelling at everything offensively. But again, you're right, we're not going to convince anybody. Still though, there's legit hope Bo & Beck get it. SW couldn't/wouldn't and wanted "multiple", where we excelled in everything which resulted in the worst offense we had in over 40 years (2009). Ironically, it wasted arguably the best defense we've had the last 40 years. Sure, vs the creampuffs "multiple" does indeed pay off as you can and will exploit any defensive weakness an opponent has. Even in 2009 our offense totally lit up the three SunBelt teams it played. Then we started playing BCS teams and it was "3 & out" all year long. When playing a good team with a good defense is where having an identity offensively pays off. When the going is tough and the game is in question, running something you "really" excel at helps a lot. To excel at something, as Uncle Milt always said "you need reps". Lots & lots of reps. For cfb, that simply can't be done for everything. GBR! run the ball......stop the run.......win the game. +100000000000000000000

  6. I agree with this statement. I would say 90% of teams in this day and age are trying to be multiple and they look very, very similar. Of those 90%, about 85% are mediocre teams who never really have any chance of winning a National Title. The other 5% are the teams like Alabama, Florida, Texas, etc who are able to attract the very best 5 star recruits. Nebraska is not in that top 5% which is exactly why we have been so very average the last 10 years. We can argue about this till we're blue in the face. The fact of the matter is, Nebraska has to be different and unique in order to be among the best teams in college football. That is why we were so good in the 90's. If we continue to just go along with the norm in college football, we will continue to win 8, 9, 10 games a year, and never win another National Championship. Will will just be the nice team that once had an amazing run in history.
  7. Um ok, whatever. Its one thing to use your "bread and butter" plays and attack the defense where they are weakest. It is an entirely different thing to change your bread and butter plays each week based on what the defense does. Alternate bread and butter plays? Sorry boss, that isn't gonna work. You really think you'll be able to run proficiently a different set of plays each week? Doubtful. Or not even have any bread and butter plays. Like the guy above said, we basically have 320 or however many plays to choose from. Each week we pick and choose which ones we think will work best instead of running the same set of plays each week. Thats the difference between having an offensive identity and not. If you don't understand that, then you don't understand football.
  8. I don't think this could be farther from the truth. The good offenses most certainly do. Having an offensive identity allows you to rely on a certain aspect of the game under pressure, when the game is on the line. I remember Osborne saying they would practice a handful of plays every single day in practice. They would practice these plays until they could run them in their sleep. They were their bread and butter plays. When the game was close and you had to put a drive together, these were the plays you would rely on. They had the utmost confidence that these plays would work. That was their offensive identity. When I hear offensive coordinators and head coaches say that they are going to "take what the defense gives them," I just shake my head. This philosophy really boggles my mind. They are basically saying that we are going to change how we run our offense each and every week based on the opposing teams defense. We were so good in the 90's because we never changed our offensive philosophy. We didn't "take what the defense gives." We had an offensive identity that our opponents had to prepare differently for. We were unique. We did what we wanted on offense and forced the defense to react to us, not the other way around.
  9. Fixed it for you. Were actually NU. Northwestern can be nu if they want but we are the real NU!
  10. I didn't watch the game but heard that OSU was 1-4 passing for 17 yards. They ran the ball 51 times and won 17-7 today. Can anyone shed a little insight into how this game went down? OSU was also 3-12 on 3rd down conversions. Did OSU just go 3 and out most of the game and then had like 3 drives where they went the length of the field? Im just confused how you can only throw the ball 4 times and only complete 1 pass and win by 10 points. Weird game looking at the stats.
  11. If that doesn't scream "we deserve an auto BCS bid" then nothing does.
  12. Have you ever been to a Husker game in Memorial before?
  13. For the record, Dirk's been my favorite writer/reporter in any NE publication since our 2009 comeback win over Mizzou. (Following that win, he investigated Watson's statement about Mizzou loading the box against our run and shutting us down, when in reality they weren't loading the box. We just couldn't block and the play-calling hindered our chances to move the ball. And Dirk was right on) Needless to say, I look forward to every one of his articles b/c he gives it to us straight. And his investigative skills are head and shoulders above the rest, which really helps him unearth stuff that's below the surface of the issue at hand. Dirk's apology, while well-written, was totally unnecessary. He has a job to do, and he's damn good at that job. I realize Bo Pelini has a job to do as well, and he is damn good at his job too. But come on now, Bo. Do you really need to play such childish games? Seriously, what does it say about a program that can't handle the heat of one reporter's criticism of a coach and his quarterback? I know, I know. Bo is a player's coach, and he will stand up for his players at all costs. Blah blah blah. Grow up, Bo. Or better yet, learn how to deal with the media in a way that doesn't make you come across as such a jackass. Believe it or not, the media plays a big role in major collegiate athletics, especially its cash crop - football. When articles like the one Dirk wrote appear in a major media outlet, take the heat and do something about it on the field. Prove all the naysayers wrong without all the childish (and sometimes threatening) reactions. Its nice to know some other people on this board feel the same way I do about Bo. Everyone else is just.....oh never mind, its not worth arguing this again.
  14. I wonder how long it will take for Nebula to come in here and start bashing on these guys like he did Ron Brown?
  15. Come on, Ive been to Village Inn before and read a complimentary copy! And I'm not really sure where I said that IMO was a fact. You know the OWH is better when you are a student at UNL, you go to pick up your free copy of the paper, the OWH is empty and the LJS is stocked full.
  16. I think that guy was talking more about the band before they make their way into the stadium. They don't really do anything cool as compared to other teams, especially their drum lines
  17. I never said that the LJS sucks up to the university, just reiterated what zoogies had posted. I wouldn't really know because I have never once purchased a LJS and I lived in Lincoln for 5 years. OWH is way better. Better layout, better articles, better writers, imo.
  18. It's not that. Sip has a good relationship with the coaching staff. Dirk has a very poor one. Sip gets better access and he usually puts out what the staff wants to be put out there, which isn't a bad thing. LJS has good, upbeat coverage. Other sources are more critical, and there's room for both. Depends on how you look at it. LJS is a nice little cozy newspaper which has maybe 10% of the states population reading their stuff. OWH probably has 75% of the population reading their stuff. LJS is gonna do what they can to increase their readers. Simple business. (my %'s are total guesses and based on only people who actually read newspapers). Sip might get better access and be a mouthpiece for the coaches but does it really matter if no one reads his stuff?
  19. This is getting funny. Now it is turning into a war of OWH vs LJS. You absolutely knew this article was coming. People get upset with something that an OWH writer writes so the LJS writes the exact opposite in a desperate attempt to get people to read the LJS.
  20. I'll go along with you on this one. I have hated on Martinez and Bo as much as anyone else. I even found myself hoping that Martinez would play bad and we would lose so it would look bad on Bo. Come game time, I can't do anything else but root for and support MY Huskers. Maybe Ill turn into a sunshine pumper. Im just really glad we won this game. I dont really care who our coach or qb is as long as we win. I just know Nebraska has the ability to be so much better than it has shown so it pains me when we suck it up. I want us to win more than anybody....GO HUSKERS! Great Job Bo and Martinez!
