  1. I am not quite sure what all the debate is. I am damn glad we have both of them. They are both very good backs with different strengths and running styles. These days this is what teams are going to. Look at Jacksonville this year, they had Taylor, a bigger back and then Jones-Drew a shiftier back come in at times and totally change the look of the defense. Or look at Pitt. last year with Bettis and Parker. I know Bettis is bigger and not comparable to Glenn yet but you get the idea. Coaches obviously like to switch the temp of the game. Lucky is our speed back who can break it at any given time and also a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. Glenn is our power back who breaks down defenses and makes them not want to hit anymore by the time its the fourth quarter. Thats when lucky comes in and breaks a 50 yarder. They both compliment each other greatly and I love the fact we have both of them. I am honestly looking for them to be like a bush-white tandom this year. Are you guys saying that you would have been talking like this if we were talking about bush and white? I dont think so, so we shouldnt be talking about either one of them in the way I have seen above.
  2. I absolutely think that Grixby will be the nickel back or rotate in at corner. I really think Grixby is a good corner, however Bowman going down really hurt him this year. It forced him to cover other teams number one receiver a lot of the time. When they had bowman they would put Grixby on the number two receiver who was normally shorter. Grixby is quick and athletic as hell so he can stay with almost every number two receiver in the country its just the taller ones that he really had trouble with. If you look at his soph. and freshman years he had good seasons and that was why, he always had a "number one" corner who would always handle the best receiver. This year they just couldnt do that. When Bowman comes back with the addition of Murillo and the development of Jones and Thenarse that will give us what I think will be an outstanding group of corners, they are ALL nfl prospects, yes even Grixby there are a lot of corners in the nfl who are his size. I think the starters will be Bowman and one of Thenarse, Jones, Grixby or Murillo. Either way the load will be lessened for the number two corner and therefore will make them appear to be much better.
  3. Ok so we got some really good db's this year and some good ones last year as well. However, I was recently looking at some other teams rosters and it occured to me that we have lost out on a lot of really good db's in the past. Not to take anything away from the ones we do have but just look at some of the people that are on the list: Smith and the other safety from Oklahoma, Mouton to michigan, devon ross to arizona, shareece wright to usc, and now this year david ross to oregon st. That is every year that we have been soo close to getting some outstanding talent and in the end not being able to close the deal. Again I am not trying to take away anything from the people we have there now (not before bc we still had shanle) but now we have some really good talent in there. However how good do you think we would be if we would have landed maybe just one of those guys a year. Suppose we would have got Smith one year, Mouton, the next year, and Ross this year. With the people we have coming in now that would be one hell of a lineup. We could have Mouton and Smith at the safety spots, with David Ross, thenarse, west, sullivan, and blue waiting to contribute. Also bc we have two really good safetys we might be able to put Asante at linebacker or move mouton to linebacker or maybe actually move culbert there like what was stated earlier. It just got me to thinking what could have been with the talent we have coming here and the talent we missed out on. I LOVE the people that are there and the people we have coming in, this is more or less just a thought and something to pass the time.
  4. Ok my brother and I always debate that recruiting doesnt mean as much as I think it means. My arguement is that ON AVERAGE the teams with the best recruiting classes year in and year out are the teams that are fighting for a spot in the national championship games or BCS games. He just doesnt seem to think that is true. I even went to every teams web site who you have listed in the first post out of the top ten recruiting classes on average and looked at their leaders in stats in all offensive categories. Combined, all the teams that I looked three of them were below a four star. I was just wondering where you got your info from and if you could possibly give me a link so I can maybe shut him up. I would appreciate it, thanks.
  5. I dont doubt that LSU had smaller, quicker, faster linebackers. I am all about quick, fast, hard hitting linebackers. My point was that they wouldnt take a guy that they brought in specifically to fill a HUGE need for us and switch him to a different position that could be filled by other good players. If they move Asante to linebacker (I am not saying that he wouldnt make a great linebacker) who would they put at the oher safety spot that would be as good as asante? If you put Culbert and Green at the safety spots then that would mean that Dillard, Mceon, Octavian, Rudd, Asante, and Brandenburgh would all be fighting for a spot and more than likely someone would get left out. If we keep Asante at safety it allows us to have as much talent on the field as we can at one time. That enables us to have Dillard, Mceon, Ocatavian, and Asante all on the field at the same time, that is some big time talent and speed there. If you want to move Culbert to linebacker then you would just have to switch him back to safety or have another JC guy or a RS freshman play at the other safety opposite Asante the next year because there is nobody to take over for Green when he graduates. The coaches obviously agree that we need speed at linebacker otherwise they wouldnt have recruited two guys that run 4.5 fortys and one that got away with a 4.3. They know what they are doing, and we are on our way to having a freakin awesome defense in the years to come.
  6. he could end up at linebacker, however I would LOVE to see him at safety. He is built in the same exact mold of Taylor Mays from USC. With a couple years this guy is going to be great.
  7. I gave this class an A-. At first I was pretty upset with the loss of Ross and Lewis, and while it hurts to lose them I looked past a couple of players that could possibly step in for them. I definatley overlooked Eric Hagg, he is being recruited as an athlete and he is 6'1 200 lbs. He could very easily step in for Ross and maybe be better. We already have Paul and Gillylan at the WR spot so I dont see any reason to at least give him a chance to play DB. I also think with Mendoza and Castille along with Okafor coming in next year Helu will be given a shot at linebacker, filling the spot that Lewis left. Helu is about 215 lbs and runs a 4.42 forty. It is reasonable to think he can get up to about 230 and keep very close to the same speed. With that said we also got two very good o-linemen, stockpiled the defensive secondary, got two good looking prospects at QB, two great looking WRs, another threat at TE, two running backs that compliment each other perfectly, and two more fantastic looking LBs. We got four high school d-line prospects and I think Yancy is a star in the making. The only thing that I am worried about is the lack of high school depth at DT. This is an issue to keep an eye on. With that said I think this class will turn out to be the best Callahan has got yet!
  8. Ok so I just read a little bit of the Omaha World Herald and they quoted Picou as saying he is fine now they are just making sure that all his organs are working fine. Yes I agree that he is going to be back, more than likely for spring ball, IMO. This makes me feel a lot better than when it was first reported, we need that dude on the field in a drastic way.
  9. So I might have missed it but is there an update on this situation? I know that Lucky was in IC from an OD but that is pretty much all I have heard that is concrete.
  10. NEWS!!!! I need some news for the love of god!!!
  11. I read on another board that he has been stabalized for a while now. It said that initially he was said to be on his death bed, however its said he is to make a complete recovery physically. This is great news if its true, however prayers still need to continue to go out.
  12. what the hell is that about? He doesnt appear to do any "serious" drugs judging by the shape he is in. From my experiences you cant overdose on weed, so my guess would be some type of pills. This is a little more comforting to look on the bright side. At least I would think they could pump his stomach and get him in recovery, however I would think that if they could do that they would have already, so I am lost.
  13. I cant freakin believe what has gone on in the last two weeks!!!!! First we lost two four star recruits who were extremely valuable to the future of Nebraskas defense. Now what was a freakin loaded backfield has turned out to probably having two true freshmen see significant playing time next year. If Lucky is done playing, along with Wilson not being at full speed, that will mean Glenn is the only player with any playing time, which is still up in the air bc he isnt even available for spring drills. Is it possible that they wont even have enough running backs to do spring drills? They will probably have to move Amakamura and Culbert there again. As far as the defense, we lost a critical db in this years recruiting class. If Murillo is as good as everyone is saying, he will be going pro after next year. If this does happen that means we will have Thenarse, West, Sullivan, Blue, and maybe Young if they dont move him to safety. That would give us a junior, a sophmore, and more than likely two redshirt freshmen. I am sure we will get a junior college guy but it sure would have been nice to get a solid high school guy. This really upsets me I dont even have words to describe it.
  14. I just dont understand why everyone is saying that mceon will switch to SAM. He has started at MIKE for two years now. There has never been any mention of him moving, there was talk by the coaches last year about getting Dillard some reps at SAM. It is obvious they need to get both of them on the field at the same time so why switch the person that beat out Dillard last year at MIKE. I also dont know what all the talk about switching culbert or asante is about. As stated above they specifically brought them in for the secondary. They dont have a lot of depth at the safety spot either so why would they take people from a position that lacks a lot of depth and put them at a position that lacks a lot of depth. I am sure california husker can tell you the answer.
  15. Well good thing for california husker you are both it appears.
  16. Ok smartasses, my point was that the strong side linebacker usually is the one taking on lead blocks and dealing with the tight end. What I was saying is that more times than not this year I saw Mceon try to outrun the blockers and duck under them rather then take them on and shed the block. I dont see him being able to do that consistently like I can see Dillard. Mceon is a good middle linebacker, and has started there for two years why would they change his position for his senior year. I really dont see Asante moving to linebacker either. When the coaches were telling him where they needed him they were telling him about the safety position. They brought him in here to start next year, not to rotate with all the other linebackers we have. I am not sure which safety but the starters will be green and asante or culbert and asante. Either way asante will be starting at one safety spot next from start to finish next year assuming he stays healthy.
  17. I think he will be an upgrade as well. Taylor was good there is no doubt about that. However, I think next year we will se what a more athletic qb who has a good grasp on the offense can do. Keller will be able to throw the ball downfield more. I also think he will be able to check off better and just dump the ball off if the big play isnt there. Something that I noticed Taylor missed a lot this year. Another thing I noticed was that Taylor was not that good at seeing what the defense was going to do. A lot of time he would wait to long for the receiver to be open instead of reading how their body was turned or something like that. I think that will be an upgrade as well, Keller will be able to anticipate what the defense is going to do. I personally dont think there will be a question as to who the starter is next year. I think the coaches have to say that so the others try hard and push Keller, but they have a great idea as to who is going to be in command.
  18. I dont know why we would move Asante anywhere but Safety. That is why he was brought here, to fill Shanles spot and give it a whole new look this next year. Im not sure why everyone is saying move mceon to strong side bc if anyone pays attention he is not one to take on contact he more or less outruns the lineman or will duck under them to make the tackle. He is what about 230 lbs. I dont think he is big enough or strong enough to take over the strong side. On top of that he has been learning the MIKE spot for three years now and has done a good job. Dillard is a much better prospect to take over the strong side. He is about 240-250 lbs. and stronger than Mceon. The coaches were also saying that they were looking to get him some time there last year anyway. I think we have five capable linebackers next year, not counting the freshmen or Covey. I would be willing to bet the lineup will go something like this (unless something unexpected happens, such as a freshman stepping up, brandenburgh stepping up, or covey stepping up) WLB: Octavian, Rudd MIKE: Mceon, Brandenburgh SAM: Dillard, Brandenburgh
  19. I am not sure he will start out at MIKE bc we dont have very many linebackers for now and it makes sense that Dillard will take over once Mceon is gone. We might just put him at OLB and then look for another top notch inside linebacker this next year. I dont see anything wrong with Lawrence, Dillard, and Stafford at the linebackers. Sounds damn good to me actually.
  20. If this is true I dont know what I would do. I mean honestly last year they got two five star running backs a four star and moved over the top overall outside linebacker to running back as well. Then this year they sign the top two running backs in the nation also being five stars, along with another four star. Then they have Mark Sanchez the number one overall recruit in the nation coming in here along with Corp this year yet people still want to go there. I understand that people want to go to Southern California and warm weather and a winning program and I know its a good school. So is Nebraska, we have great academics and one of the best traditions ever in college sports. Yet we lose a recruit because we had too many db recruits, when only two of them are four star, both being junior college guys. It just blows my mind how people will sacrifice playing time for two to four years just to be able to play at usc when they could go somewhere like nebraska and have a much better chance of playing early. Im not even saying they have to come to Nebraska, but it just doesnt make sense for these "superstars" to sit out at usc when they say that they want the chance to play early. It almost literally makes me sick!!
  21. Where are you guys looking at the rivals 100 for 2008? I looked all over but I could only find the one for 2007. They have a Rivals 100 for bball, and a Oklahoma watch list but that is all I could find. If someone could tell me where I could find that I would appreciate it.
  22. In all honesty our class is done. We have all our players signed who are going to, and Love already signed who was probably our last hope. It is still a good class, however would have been much better with a four star linebacker and a four star db, but what can ya do?
  23. I personally believe that Lucky will be a great back for us next year. He does have amazing speed and I saw drastic improvement in running power from freshman to soph. year. He is a great receiver out of the backfield and will only get stronger and be able to read d's better as time goes on. Wasnt james steward from oregon the number one rated back that year and Lucky was number two? Lucky split time with sometimes three other backs and always at least one and he still had over 1000 yards of total offense. Just wait and see he will be something to talk about next year with a drastically improved line and more time to shine. Im not sure about Stewarts stats but with all things considered they cant be that much better than luckys.
  24. This really pisses me off too, I just want to start saying that. I think Lewis was the best overall athlete in this class, maybe any class cally has had so far. He was 220 lbs and ran a 4.3 40, that doesnt come along very often. With that said we are still in OK position at linebacker. Dillard will get a medical redshirt which makes him a sophmore. With Lawrence and Stafford coming in that gives us a pretty good lineup at linebacker. I think Lawrence will get moved to strong side, Dillard will be middle and Stafford will be weak. That gives us a lot of speed at the linebacker position. Also I think that Covey might contribute some in the future as well. Cally is doing a good job recruiting and so is Busch, whos to say that they wont get a huge linebacker recruit next year. Looking at the junior AA teams they are medium and offered a ton of the linebackers. I think we are OK, but I am still pissed off that we lost this guy. Who knows maybe Helu or Washington will move to linebacker now and be better than Lewis would have.
  25. I just got done reading the junior AA teams and Nebraska was either of medium interest or above on I believe 8 prospects, might have been 7 I cant remember now. Either way I think that is pretty good for the start of the year. None other than Baker Steinkhuler was first team OL, and already locked up. Had quite a few linebackers targeted which I like to see, can never have too many athletes. Just bored and saw it on Rivals and decided to post it and see what everyone else thought. With a good year next years class could be callys best yet!
