  1. it wouldn't sound bad to break up black-shirts. i have said this before: as a little kid who went to over 35 home games in my life, then not being able to go for about 12 years, then finally started having time and money to make it back i was disappointed how everyone stares at the boob tubes during the games. back in the day, before ANY Husker Vision it seemed the crowd was much more in tune to the game and cheering simply for the fact of making noise and being as one loud body. then came the first 2 screens which enhanced crowd noise and was able to show tunnel walks, replays, cool graphics, etc...that still helped pump up the crowd. now there is the giangantic screen, which looks cool and really makes a strong statement, but i truly believe it takes away from the crowd noise and interaction. it shows friggin commercials for crap sakes. during timeouts, we used to do double-crossing wave, HuskerPower chants, GO BIG RED chants, student section had their stuff, D-fense, you get the point. it can still be loud and seeing huge replays and stuff is great and obviously for recruiting, but IMO, it has actually taken away from an authentic gameday fan/action interaction.
  2. f#*k that sh#t. mutherfuckers not believin...we can win this f'ing game and we will. i bet we have a huge crowd there and we stomp their second-tier asses.
  3. yeah, pretty good. but damn, just another thing on the list of no self-introduced originality. not saying we made it up either, but pretty obvious they ganked it from us this week.
  4. cool video. i could watch those while someone beats me over the head with a blunt object and get chills. 1. Husker prayer, a must 2. short and sweet 3. cool highlights i would like to see mentioned the number of conference championships too
  5. i really think a little disruption goes a long way this week. chase has been able to sit back and pick his targets this year, but still has managed to throw some picks and look inefficient at times. if we can get just a smidge of pressure and keep the game close into halftime, then he will start pressing and try to do it all himself, which plays right into our hands. i mean this with all sincerity: i really am not too worried about winning this game. missouri has had 2 weeks off and will blow their wad in the first quarter. meanwhile, we have been scraping out wins in tough situations, getting more and more battle tested. if we can get daniels the least bit rattled to where he tries too hard, it will be pretty easy for us to win. NU-31 UM-17
  6. yeah, i think they will be ready to play too. i just hoped they get a little too psyched up early this week in anticipation and kind of blow their wad early on. i would expect a couple of big (if not trick) plays early in the game from them, and if we can withstand them, then i think the fight will be on. we have to take this on into the second half cuz they will be ready early.
  7. well, having a weak schedule kind of speaks for itself. a football team ONLY gets better when it plays better teams. look at NU in the late eighties. we CRUSHED KU and K-state and CU all season then lost to OU or a florida school in a bowl, because we didn't play great competition all season. weak schedules are good for confidence and fine tuning, but to start playing with real game speed and intensity, you have to see it first hand. if we win the B12 North and or the B12 CG and get a good bowl victory, i would point to the loss against SC for showing us what it took to play at a high level. secondly, KU's QB is sorry. save for a couple of weak opponents, he hasn't proven himself against anyone. take a look a Freeman @K-state. he's played on the road against 2 very good opponents, won one and amost the other. battle tested, showing poise when it counts. Even Keller in the loss to USC got to fine tune in the 4th quarter against a great defense. KU may have some ballers on D, but again, who are they shutting down? have they seen an O-line as huge as ours (6'4" 315 avg)? is their scout team preparing their starters to play against a spread attack like Mizzery's? have they played tough enough opponents in tight games to develop a 'play-maker' squad? and finally, it's KU! they stink. they always have, and save for a few .500 seasons, they always will. and PLEASE don't point to 2 years ago in Lawerence. one win in 35 years, does not parity make. they are on the right track. they are starting to compete. but kind of like NU v SC, 2-thirds of our starters wouldn't be starting for them; i would maybe trade 2 or 3 players with KU's entire squad! you can't measure heart and i know KU will be ready to play, but until they start to prove it week in, week out--well, then they're just KU.
  8. hey guys, what do you think about the fact that Mizzery hasn't really played anyone. granted, they beat a syracuse team in week one who went on to stomp Louisville but have they played anyone with REAL speed (like USC) or with a winning mentality (like ACC champ Wake)? in other words, can they just turn 'it' on and play at a level that requires more speed and execution. i know they have a week off to prepare, but sometimes that can backfire some on the physical level because their scout team doesn't run like our starters. they may be mentaly ready as far as schemes, but i think since we have been playing better opponents in tighter games our 'edge' will equal their week off. thoughts on this?
  9. i bet he sees quality minutes and becomes a huge factor against Texas and aTm and Mizzou! plus he will be so happy to be on the field, it will hopefully inject life into a lifeless bunch. this has me excited.
  10. i second that. no matter what happens, i just hope we have some tenacity and fire. if Coz and rally the troops, that's great!
  11. WOW!! starting? really? that's great! maybe get the attention of the other players on D that if you don't perform anyone, even someone from O, can take your spot.
  12. yes. thank you. i always go to www.huskerfootball.com and it has all the articles
  13. i just read an article about Coz on huskerfootball.com about changing his 'modus operandi' and they had interviewed a former linebacker of his from Wisc. he said he was a very 'player friendly' coach who taught great gap discipline and always had his players in great positions to make plays. THEN, he says, but when things started going bad or there were times the opponent was dictating the flow, it seemed their defense had a hard time adjusting and seemed to be on their heels reacting instead of taking the fight to the other team. Sound Familiar???? Now, i'm sure if you interviewed another former player, he could say the exact opposite. i bet some thought Coz was great all the time. the gist of the article was that it seems not a lot has changed about Coz's D's either here or a Wisc over the last 8-10 years, even suggesting that with all the spread offenses and fast-break teams out there, the game might have passed him by some time ago. meaning he learned his style of coaching and defensive schemes during the "3 yds and cloud of dust" BIG10 days. anyway, for what's it's worth, it was a pretty good read. sorry, but i don't know how to post links. here's to the Blackshirts getting some fire back this week!! like my linebacker coach in college would say, "Start playing with some Fire!! I'm gonna get a red-hot poker and stick it right up your ass!!" that would get us goin.
  14. i love how he refers to his team as "tissue". they have not one tradtion there. they even steal Ohio State vernacular. wait i guess they do have one tradition: losing to the Cornhuskers. as for your 'discussion topics': the Blackshirts, though beleagured, will not have a problem with your skill people. they've taken their lumps and will come out swingin for conference play.
  15. great quotes. i played outside backer in college. once a week we had a pass rush drill. one of our tackles would get beat pretty bad sometimes. our O-line coach said to him once, "Johnson!!! you just got tossed like a USED RUBBER!" (the names have been changed to protect the individual)
  16. dudes, i just got it. this year will seperate the men the boys. the Cornhuskers from the mere players. the bad D coordinators from the spirited blackshirts, etc...\\some players will deal with it and stop accepting lesser play and will rebuild the program. the others will be left on the bench. i think fans showing some deserved frustration and an unacceptance of lack of toughness will motivate the ballers and the pretenders will fall off. (potentially: mckeon n dillard) evolution. eat or be eaten. do it or sit. let's watch the Cream rise to the top.
  17. i agree with tarheel and stigori. great posts about family and dysfunctionality. but the common thread is our love of the Team. my own family is dysfunctional at times too. and we point out and argue about changes we'd like to see made. i think it's healthy to a point. i want to talk about changes i personally think need to be made. that's why i come here. to cheer the good AND bad. but I am I and I for one will cheer the Cornhuskers on. even if we go 3-8.
  18. i am sorry, but Q is just wrong here. college football is not highschool football. it is not supposed to be fun in and of itself. it is purely performance based. it is fun...when you win (which i get is part of his point, that we ARE 3-1) and you grade out good on film and your coach DOESN'T yell at you! college and pro's seperate the men from the boys. those who understand how to do their JOB on the field and excel at it do have fun. real fun like boys have in during highschool careers are left behind for a very select few who can actually play in college, let alone a top tier program. we are talking about coaches who are paid handsomely for teaching a game. players on scholarship for a big time program. better results are expected than what they've given 3 weeks in a row. i hate to say it but Dan Hawkins was right: "this isn't intramurals, this is D1 football!" if Q wants to have 'fun' then go play intramruals. if he wants to compete and let the cards fall, then suck it up, sell out, and get better results. then that will be fun. period.
  19. he's got that nice forward lean and big thick trunks for legs like Castille, and BJax
  20. he's practicing at WILL, per huskerfootball.com
  21. what happened to Mckeon? man that guy was studly as a soph!! he got hurt a little last year and has no athlecticism left in his body! i feel for him cuz he was a baller, then...flat
  22. i don't blame the players, Thenarse is can get it done. he may be inexperienced and confused, but he will gain experience through play, but to get un-confused is up to the COACH
  23. where are all the 'mad-chemistry' blitzing safety, different looks, etc...schemes that coz was talking about at the beginning of the year? if Davis had all day to pass and we have 5 d-backs that could be on the field, why didn't we blitz to put pressure on? i only listened to the game on the radio and the announcers were only saying he was scrambling around a bit to find time and that the d-line couldn't get off blocks. WHERE IS THE SCHEME? WHERE ARE THE ADJUSTMENTS? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO CONFUSE THE OPPONENT ON DEFENSE INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND? WHEN? WHEN?
  24. yeah i agree. catching 11 passes is outstanding and a great intangible. it helps him get to where he's best too, in the open field. he sure can make people miss and is very tough to catch. however, it just doesn't seem like he has a forward lean. like BJax or Ahman Green. they seemed to get the ball and have the mentality of 'i have it, i dare you to come tackle me'. Lucky is more like 'well, not a lot there. i'll go down and live to fight another day.' he does have great pass blocking and is capable to make big plays, but just not a lot of tenacity.
