  1. The only way the cheifs improve is if they get rid of Herm Edwards. I have never been a fan of him. But you gotta think that there really aren't any "new" offenses anymore. Nothing has been that revolutionary since the WCO came in with Bill Walsh. Just spreading the field out more.
  2. Basically Notre Dame is going to be a big key for the Gator bowl, which in turn will align the rest of our bowls as the Gator bowl gets a higher pick then the Alamo bowl if it takes a Big XII team. This link from ESPN tells alot of the situation. It should get alot more clear, and note that it was written two weeks ago so the facts wont hold 100% but it gives examples of what could happen. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigeast/0-1-424...wl-picture.html
  3. Not gonna quote anything but im gonna reply to a few. I dont see any way we fall to the Houston bowl...in fact i dont see any way they get to pick a big XII team. second, the winner of the Big XII automatically goes to the fiesta if not chosen for the championship game. third, there is a rule against 3 conference teams going into BCS games (im pretty sure) fourth, the alamo bowl is considered higher then the sun bowl but lower then the gator bowl (meaning they get the choice first)
  4. The Sun bowls website has NU, Kansas, Cincinnati, West Virgina, Pittsburgh, Oregon, Arizona, Cal highlighted as eligible teams. That could provide some story lines...
  5. Remember that we will probably get 2 BCS bids, so that'll slide Nebraska up a bowl spot. Im guessin: BCS Tech and Oklahoma/Texas (most likely Texas) Cotton OU/Texas Holiday Mizzou Gator No Big 12 team Alamo Ok State Sun Nebraska Insight Kansas Independence None Texas None
  6. This link explains the bowl pecking order and matchups: http://www.big12sports.com/ViewContent.dbm...CONTENT_ID=1103 my money right now is on the sun bowl. It only looks like our conference will have 8 bowl eligible teams with us right around the bottom two. There is no way the Gator bowl takes a Big XII team two years in a row. Be careful reading some of those prediction sights cause they have matchups bowl comittees would never go for IMO.
  7. Ya better get used to it! The days of domination by a defense here at Nebraska are long gone!!!!! One word.......PARODY Yeah but 35 points at home? I dunno...
  8. On 590 out of omaha they had audio of Patterson calling in to a Dallas station and saying he has not talked to anybody at KSucks, doesn't like when schools fire guys in the middle of the year, and he will not be doing any talking until the seasons over. i think they blew their chances with this. It also sounded like Rivals was the one breaking all this.....whoops
  9. It amuses me that in college this kind of discussion can come up. In the NFL they WANT you to wear sweatshirts, jackets, anything that has Reebok on it. Anyone hear how big a deal they made when Mike Nolan wanted to wear a suit for a game? My how the games are different.
  10. TCU is a better program and job than KSUcks. Granted the big 12 is a better conference, but i wouldnt leave TCU for KSUcks. I remember reading somewhere that the TCU coaches name is being tossed around in Washington. I would go there over Craphatten.
  11. So that would mean Witt would start as a Soph. and junior but lose the job his senior year (hes a redshirt Frosh this year)? No offense but I dont see any way that happens. Barring some unforseen miracle, or tragedy, I think whoever starts for us next year is the guy for the next 3 or 4 years. (Unless of course Lee is the starter then that would play into the Green scenario)
  12. Yeah he'll be here after Christmas Break. That gives him quite some time to learn the play book eh?? I would really like Cody Green to start next year. I just want to see at least a 3 year quality starter. Judging by his stats he sounds darn impressive. Anyone seen any highlights of him?
  13. Didn't I read something about Green enrolling at semester? If so that definitely helps his chances in the QB battle.
  14. no http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29916 Maybe not converting but taking significant reps.
  15. Not in half, maybe, but the Huskers always got the back-up plenty of carries, with the QB and Fullback getting more rushes than most teams. In fact, the Huskers did so well getting the back-up HB playing time that he typically ended up replacing the starter. Hipp was a sophomore phenom, but was washed up by his Senior year and Redwine was the star. Redwine was washed up by his Senior year and Roger Craig was the star. By his Senior year, Craig was superseded by Mike Rozier and they turned Roger into a quasi-fullback in order to keep them both in the backfield. I think it was Keith Jones who was our Heisman candidate when they started giving freshman Lawrence Phillips some touches, and he took over the next year. Outside of Mike Rozier, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a featured Nebraska running back who had a more productive Senior Year than his Junior or even Sophomore year. Some used to blame Boyd Eppley for turning the running backs into weight room fanatics, making them more muscle-bound than nimble. But even the greatest Husker running backs were always looking over their shoulder at the new kid. When you name all those backs they ALL had backups that saw significant time. Just because the backup is not getting touches doesn't mean that he is not playing. The only time a majority of people notice what running back is in is when they are touching the ball which is only a part of what they do. How many times when we had Frazier, Crouch, or even Lord (QBs that kept the ball ALOT in the option) did we have a running back as a pitch man trailing him down the field? almost always, did they get the ball, not really. My point is just because we don't hear the guys named called out doesn't mean that he doesn't see significant time when giving the starter a breather. And as far as using three backs...the coaches obviously see something that we don't otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it. And isn't Mendoza being converted to WR?
  16. Young and fatigue prone? Are you kidding me? These are top notch D1 athletes...they are not fatigue prone. I could run for miles when I was 18-23 and I wasn't a D1 athlete. If these guys are tired, they need to be ran more! There is a difference between running miles and running in football. Different set of muscle fibers are targeted and its totally different conditioning. Football is about short bursts of speed which DO fatigue the body. It may not be for long periods of time, but there is still fatigue. You mean to tell me when Lucky had his huge run against Baylor you didnt see him run out of gas at the end? This last game after Helu had a big game you could see it took it out of him. The body needs recovery time which goes back to my original point of you have to spread the wealth among backs...you cannot rely on just one back.
  17. I think we just lack the playmakers to get to the ball in most areas. Its sad but a reality that we just do not have the talent on defense to matchup with the outstanding offenses in this conference.
  18. How about both? Let run some sets with both of them in the backfield. That would add an element of surprise to the game. I love Luckys blocking ability, and Helus ability to run with the ball when he gets outside. I think we could utilize having both of them on the field at the same time.
  19. Part fo the problem is this is all in his head. Castille needs to be our bruiser type back. He shouldnt be out there running sweep plays, or being the pitch man for a reverse or whatever. He needs to stick to between the tackles. And as far as why they keep getting him the ball, its all psychological. Until he finally holds on to the ball consistently its going to be there. If he is running up the gut he needs to hold in with both arms for all hes worth. One more thought...we need to have Q still running the ball. I love Helu to death but you cant have a college offense revolve around 1 back. They are to young and fatigue prone, and with Luckys nagging foot injury this could be a tough stretch for them. Maybe Pelini needs to do what they did in the old days and make Q carry around a ball everywhere on campus.
  20. And i just dont see anyone on d that could be that type of player right now. The argument could be made about Glenn but he is still learning things. Perhaps Compton in the future though...
  21. They also count refs, stadium workers, and people that show up to broadcast the game.
  22. My bad...I thought those were the crows from Dumbo. sorry
  23. I know how superstition works....Ive worn my Grey Nebraska Equipment shirt the past few weeks and we're doin better...lol of course i havent been to a game since Va Tech....
  24. So racist....yet sooooo funny (the comparison that is)
