  1. TO also hand-picked solich and handcuffed him with the requirement to keep the old staff. He's not infallible.
  2. Agreed. So don't you think TO would have to make the decision that the majority would favor? I think in this instance--yes. I think he's going to try to get a coach that unites the fan base. In the past, he's done his own thing and hasn't cared what people think--but this time I think he realizes he needs to find someone that people can get behind.
  3. I don't see it. I think he just doesn't quite "get it" about Nebraska football. He doesn't understand. I don't see TO putting the program through what pedey did when solich fired the assistants and brought in new ones for 1 year. What quality assistants are going to come here knowing that in all likelihood they're gone after a year? And to answer knapplc--I think most fans want him gone.
  4. I will complain. I think TO realizes that he needs to unite the fans--and he won't be doing that by pissing off most of them that want callahan to stick around.
  5. the system he is teaching is not for 1st or even 2nd year guys.......wasted talent sits on the bench for at least 2 years....no wonder even talented recruits seldom see the field for several years here. Exactly--and that's why I question his ability as a college coach. When you've only got a kid for 4 years (less for a jc recruit) you need to use their athletic ability sooner. Heck, even in the pros you need to get the stud rooks on the field asap.
  6. Yes--he got results with a 4th year junior. My only question is, why does it take 4 years to learn the system when other schools have freshmen and sophomores that excel?
  7. I'll root for Kansas. I've never had any animosity toward them. They've always been the little brother that got picked on. I don't much like misery and I'd rather see KU than OU. I think it's a helluva Cinderella story if they manage to win it. Also, I feel us fat guys should stick together...albeit Mangino has probably 100 pounds on me.
  8. Now if only he had 42 more Bears on that team Chicago wouldn't suck so bad..... (Sorry..it's a rivalry thing!) My Bears made the superbowl last year. They'd easily be going back again if not for a couple of bad decisions (trading Thomas Jones), some key injuries (both starting CB's, a couple of safeties, 2 DT's, a LB and a Guard. Even with grossman or griese at QB they'd still do it if they had a healthy defense and a decent run game.
  9. Bears good...Puckers, Viqueens and Detoilet Kitties bad. That's all you really need to know. If you need more....Mike Brown is a Bear when healthy.
  10. I'm thinking he's probably pretty happy that he hasn't wasted 2 years playing for Callahan.
  11. And we're going to see the whining about undefeated teams that win championships but somehow aren't "worthy enough" until the manage to actually get a playoff system established. Maybe someone would have beaten the 1994 Huskers. Maybe Michigan could have beaten the Huskers in 1997. Maybe. We'll never know. Imagine having the chance to see such a game every year. That's why we need a playoff instead of people voting.
  12. I guess I wouldn't much mind if it ended. All the other records have fallen. These will forever be known as the dark years. Heck, if anything, maybe I'll be able to afford to go to a game with my wife w/out spending $100 + to get in the door.
  13. I think it'd be a repeat of giving Solich one more year--except Callahan won't win 9 games next year. Not a chance. I also don't know that he'd be able to find a good DC to come in knowing he'd be gone in a year.
  14. There are other issues with him that we've let slide because we're ignorant "option football fans" and he's brought in his "sophisticated NFL system". I have always had a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that he has such a complex system that young guys can't play in it. It's bothered me that the 315 pound lineman can't generate enough of a push that they can run the ball against smaller defenses. There are other stuff, as well. What would be "good enough" for him next year? A big 12 championship?
  15. During the ball state game I was working in the back yard with my dad and he kept telling me maybe they needed to give Callahan another raise. It bugged me at the time. I'm so far past that at this point--and he doesn't even try to rile me up. I think he pities me.
  16. And he might be the leader that the program needs.
  17. That right there might be a good indication that there is going to be a new hire. Another thread just popped up speculating that he'd give callahan one more year if he fired coz and some assistants. Kuli seems to think that there is going to be a need for a new coach. Wonder where he got the idea from that TO is going to hire someone? Hmm...didn't TO give him a call?
  18. I've seen comments from people saying he can't recruit...but I have yet to see any evidence of it. Fact is, he seems to relate to young men very well, as his teams would do anything for him. That would be a major part of recruiting.
  19. I don't see callahan sticking around. His time at Nebraska is starting to look like George Costanza's time after his employer found out he was not handicapped. He refused to leave, his boss didn't want to fire him...made for some good comedy.
  20. I actually believe that Bush is a Christian. Heheh "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" I don't believe Jesus to have been a pacifist. He certainly didn't stop the Romans from crucifying people.
  21. I agree. I just can't see retaining any of the current staff as HC. If you were to do that you might as well leave billy c in charge.
  22. "pulled a bush"? huh? I actually believe that Bush is a Christian. Callahan? I have seen nothing from him to suggest he is. If anything, he probably thinks since the state loves TO and TO is, maybe he should appear more Christian.
  23. I root for CU to lose every conference game every single season. I really enjoyed their last season, lol. Damn, I always thought we got a bit of sympathy from you guys when we played Texas Tech, I thought they were potentially getting close in hatred from you guys. I did root for you guys this year against USC, because I am already sick of them, and I did pull for you to whip Touchdown Jesus. Nah...with mccartney trying to call us a "rivalry" and then skippy and barnett? Now zenmaster hawkins? I just out and out hate CU. Winning a national championship in the 90's with a loss and a tie? You barely beat misery on a 5th down. CU is the red-headed stepchild to NU. Thanks to cally and co now NU is losing it's birthright as the top program in the North, though. LOL "trying to call us a rivalry"..... Yea, you're right, no rivalry here, nothing to see here....lol We went 10-1-1 to win the NC, and we can rehash 5th down whenever you want. Actually, CU's record that year was 11-1-1. They won a share of the title with GA Tech. GA Tech was 11-0-1 that year. That beats 10-2-1. They deserved the full title. And yes...it's been documented that Colorado scored a touchdown on the 5th down. The officials made a mistake. They never should have gotten a chance to run the play. They lost. It's that simple. To a bad missouri team. At least when the Huskers beat Misery with the miracle catch in 1997 they did it within the confines of the rulebook. Actually we won the game, we didn't lose to Mizzou, you call plays based on down and distance, we certainly would have never spiked the ball on 4th down had the down marker showed 4th down, but both of them showed 3rd. So we won and so we won the NC, of course you guys could have prevented it, had you all corralled Eric Bienemy in the 4th quarter. But you didn't. It's that simple. Mizzou had stopped Bienemy twice before. No reason to believe that if they had hurried up and tried to run one more dive play it would have worked. Say what you want, but you needed a 5th down to beat a mediocre mizzou team.
