  1. Next time you see or talk to your brother-in-law tell him Thanks and God Bless from this Husker fan. Hope he's home with his family real soon.
  2. Just watched the press conference and Les Miles "says" he will be the coach at LSU. He was PO'd, that he had to reassure his team that he would remain at LSU. Scratch one coach defection so far...... I say "so far" because his contract extension has been agreed to, but it has not been signed as of yet. Link http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/...86&n8pe6c=2
  3. I don't see why he would go back to coaching, when he has the job he's always wanted as Wisconsin AD. I don't think he ever was in the running for anything. He may have offered advise to Dr. Tom during the Callahan thing.
  4. I would like to see the OU (37-43-3) series brought back every year. I always considered Mizzou (63-35-3) being more of a rival than the McCartney invented one in Colorado (46-17-2). IF CU and NU get back to prominence again who knows.
  5. You will see Bowman playing Sundays somewhere in the NFL. He's too good not to. He just needs a good secondary coach to train him how to defend the right way, instead of the face guarding crap they coached here. I wish him the best in the future and thanks from this Husker fan.
  6. Virgil was a little miffed at the location of his booth until he learned the location of the Callahan, Cozgrove, and Pederson booth which was next to the restrooms.....It's chili day in the cafeteria today.
  7. Bringing it back again.... T.O. lead shrinking to 45 - 40. We need your votes.
  8. Believe it or not, running an election in Florida is a matter of state law, regardless of the fact that it is to elect electors who will then vote for a certain presidential candidate. There is no dispute among any legitimate legal scholar (conservataive or liberal) about that fact. The Supreme Court of Florida interpreted state law, and decided that certain things should be done in the recount, etc. It is widely believed that Gore would have won Florida if the Florida Supreme Court's order would have been followed. Instead, the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the Florida Supreme Court, on what was a matter of purely state law. Generally the U.S. Supreme Court has not authority to rule on a matter of state law. And the big conservatives on the U.S. Supreme Court then (Rehnquist, Scalia, Thomas) all have a long history of refusing to engage in matters of state law. They always claimed to be so-called "state's rights" advocates. Except in this issue of "state's rights," (a Florida interpretation of Florida law, rather than a federal government's interpretation) those same conservatives did away with their "state's rights" ideology, and interfered in a matter of state law, which was inappropriate and improper, as limited by the United States Constitution. That is how the Supreme Court overstepped its boundaries. Hello HuskerExpat, I'm honored to spar with you on this topic --- Let's get to it then..... First let me apologize for the mis-speak on the President - Federal Election statement. Sometimes I think faster than I type. What was meant on that statement poorly written by me, is that the election for President, albeit a state election, has to conform to Federal law and the U.S. Constitution. Your implication that the Supreme Court overstepped its boundaries by invoking "States Rights" is mistaken. "States Rights" do not supersede the rights set forth in the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court of Florida only decided "the intent of the voter" issue, however they refused to decide any uniform procedure in recounting the votes, which basically resulted in a free-for-all. Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Wells wrote his dissenting opinion;"This majority opinion will not withstand U.S. Supreme Court review, and cause a Constitutional crisis." He knew this would be in conflict with the "Equal Protection" clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, because their ballots could be devalued by later arbitrary and disparate treatment. It meant basically, that the same methods to counting the ballots could not be uniformly guaranteed to be applied county to county making it unconstitutional. The time to fix this would violate the "safe harbor" provision as prescribed in Sec 5 of Title 3 of the U.S. Code having to do with "determination of controversy as to appointment of electors" which reads: If any State shall have provided...for its final determination of...the appointment of all or any of the electors of such State...at least six days before the time fixed for the meeting of the electors, such determination...shall be conclusive. This was argued as a basis under Article 2 Sec. 1 Cl. 2 of the U.S. Constitution which applies to the matter that electors are selected. How could the Supreme Court not intervene? I wasn't going to bring politics into this, but since you brought it up.... In my opinion, I believe the Florida Supreme Court played politics with this case, and purposely screwed the pooch, to make the Supreme Court intervene to take the pressure off themselves and the Democrat Party. Let's face fact, all 4 of the counties involved were controlled by Democrat election officials. They had every chance to upgrade to the optical sensor voting machines like most of all of Florida's counties. There wouldn't be any "hanging chads" with these machines, but they chose not to. Florida's election law should have been written in crayon ---What the hell is "implied intent of the voter"? Now we're supposed to read the mind of the voter to see who they meant to vote for? Come on, this would be funny if it weren't true. In my opinion, Bush didn't steal the election. Democrat Officials in that state were either too lazy or apathetic and thusly screwed themselves. Unlike most State Supreme Court Justices, Florida's Governor picks names from a list selected by a commission and then each justice must face voters in a "merit retention" vote in the next election and then every six years, five were picked by Lawton Chiles (D), one by Bob Graham (D) and one jointly by Chiles (D) and Jeb Bush ® -- and in a process that makes the judges more partisan and more influenced by public opinion than the U.S. Supreme Court. The President picks his nominee for the Supreme Court, then said nominee has to go through an up or down vote by both Republicans and Democrats, and are appointed for life. I don't like to impugn judges but Florida Supreme Court Justices look more like politicians than judges. In an interview on CBS, Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, phrased his comments like the Florida Supreme Court was playing political gamesmanship with the more conservative members of the Supreme Court. (Rehnquist, Scalia, Thomas) Turley argued the justices are "in something of a bind" since the majority believe in federalism and the Florida Supreme Court wrote an opinion out of state law as "they iron-plated their decision to make it as difficult as possible for this court to review it and to try to make those conservative justices look slightly hypocritical if they try to re-define what they did." Then I ask "Why did the Florida Supreme Court so obviously in their decision, violate the "Equal Protection" clause, if not to goad the Supreme Court into stepping in on this case?" Looks to me when the perverable sh*t hit the fan, they acted like most politicians, they passed the buck. Cheers
  9. Dan Whitney AKA "Larry the Cable Guy" was born in Pawnee City, NE. His family moved to Florida when he was a teenager. The accent is deep south not midwestern. He has an acreage in Florida and owns a house in Lincoln. He has his own skybox at Memorial Stadium, and he usually invites members of the armed forces up to watch the games with him. The cable guy character was developed in the nineties when he would call in to a friends' radio show in Florida.
  10. How do you figure the Supreme Court overstepped it's boundaries? The proper appeals were filed all the way through the system. The votes were counted whether you liked the outcome or not, and certified under Florida law. The Federal courts stepped in, because the election for President is a Federal Election. All recounts including the one by CNN said Bush won. But unlike your statement, here is a link to the facts. (Disclaimer): To all the Dailykooks subscribers you might want to: (1.) Stick your finger in the foam of your Starbucks latte. (2.) Rub finger on your forehead (acts as mental novocaine) http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/florida.b...ories/main.html Now about your libelous statement about "GOP racists keeping people from voting". I hope you have proof to back that up. All I saw were a bunch of "cry wolf" stories that never materialized. In '06 the same stories started resurfacing Election Day around 4:00 pm Eastern, and as Democrats started making gains until 9:00 pm Eastern, all the stories somehow vanished off the AP wire. Strange isn't it? I just can't figure this out. In the age of digital photo cell phones, there's not one picture of some GOP boogeyman keeping some poor soul from voting. But I did find one true story of voter disenchantment that was in the courts. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...7062902092.html Both sources I've used are hardly Conservative leaning networks and publications. Now go back up to the Football Forum and post your daily or and next time come armed with some facts.
  11. someone has way toooooo much time on his hands... I WIN! no, he just doesnt have a job that requires him to do any actual work Oooh... sick burn! Good one!
  12. NNT, The fact that the fans show up for the games, watch the games on TV, or simply show up here in the chat room, to get together and cheer on the team, shows that we still support them. The day that the hallowed hall of Nebraska football doesn't sell out, that it is no longer the talk around coffee tables every morning, is the day that the fans do not care about the team. Nebraska football is akin to the little brother that may not please you what he does sometimes, but he's still your little brother, and you will defend him no matter what. But that doesn't mean that you can't cuss at them when the sh*t hits the fan, either. This state pours a load of money into the University of Nebraska to make sure they have the best and the newest cutting edge facilities in the country. To simply sit back, and be apathetic is unacceptable. I'll be the first one to apologize to a player, if he is offended at a criticism that is not warranted. Sometimes the truth hurts, and the truth is, this team is the most poorly coached team in the programs history, and simply lack the skills to compete in the Big 12. This is not to criticize their athletic ability, but the chemistry is all wrong. I do not know the bill of goods that the recruiters sold the players to get them here, but somebody left out the part about tradition, respect for yourself and the program, and honoring the former players that proceeded them, that bled red on that very same field, every Saturday. In all my years as a Husker fan, I have never, and I mean never, saw a Nebraska team quit like this one has, in various parts in the season. We can use all the excuses in the world like the coaching sucks (which it does), the fans aren't being supportive enough (booing, and a select few being belligerent), and Pederson (nuff said). I will never condone fans screaming at players to burn their Blackshirts, or take the N off their helmets. But in any season, there is always some adversity that needs to be overcome, and this seasons had plenty. The simple fact is some of the players on the field lack the heart and drive to be on that field. If the players do not want to play for the coaches, well then have the respect to play for each other, and the honor of the players that came before them. I've seen posts on here and other places mocking or chastising, "The Greatest Fans in College Football". Sometimes I think the meaning of this has been exaggerated to encompass many things. People were always puzzled why the opposing teams were applauded at the end of a Nebraska game, and it was simply one thing. All the fans ever ask of the players is to play hard, leave it all out on the field, win or lose, you will earn the respect and the support of all. Instead of "Restore the Order" the sign should read "Restore the Honor". The honor of "I Play For Nebraska".
  13. Here is an interview written Thursday with Jim Rose, publicly admitting in a "double-speak" way, that he is part of the marketing wing of the Husker program. http://cityweeklymediawatch.blogspot.com/2...tokyo-rose.html
  14. "I know we're not very good," Cosgrove said. "It's pretty obvious." "Understatement of the Year 2007"
  15. He probably was drinking all day after Notre Dame lost Probably fell off the wheelchair ramp and hit his head.
  16. They'll be out on the book signing circuit for their new book "We Did Everything Right"....Stories from college football's two greatest coaches. Stay tuned for the sequel "We're Just Sick" The last in the trilogy "You Wouldn't Understand It, Unless You're A Coach"
  17. they are tuff as rain. That's scary. We are screwed. Play as good as you did against Colorado and it should be a good game.
  18. I will respectively disagree with you on this. This game turned into a shootout from the beginning, due to inept playcalling and poor technique on defense. The run game was completely thrown out the window, forcing the offense to go pass only. It's real easy to defend, when you know what the other team is going to do. The picks were inevitable. I will concede that a couple were ill timed throws, but to compare the two, after only one game, is disingenuous. Ganz performed as well as expected, under the circumstances. I would like to commend Keller on his performance this year, and I hope he has a long career in the NFL.
  19. because leaving midseason will help their chances getting a job? I think they think they are doing what is dignified. What is "dignified", by completely demoralizing your team with poor game managment? That makes no sense at all.
  20. Yeah, spending $75 to watch that BC, or getting kicked in the sack.....tough choice. Alex, I'll take "sack" for $75.
  21. That's a record in itself, isn't it? Who says ol BC can't set any coaching records?
  22. This defense deserves to be BOO'd when they take the homefield next Saturday...they gave absolutely ZERO EFFORT...no KU team should ever put up nearly 80 points on a NU defense...I'll be the first....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you guys should have your damn scholarships pulled because you play like a bunch of girls What will that accomplish besides kicking the players when they're losing. If you want to show your displeasure, then call the A.D.'s office on Monday, and respectfully tell them about your displeasure of the program and the coaching staff. It will be the seniors last home game, and win or lose, they should be sent off with no ill will. I have no problem with you getting steamed at the staff and their management, but lay off the players.
  23. It's all the above. There's no first move by the D lineman to keep an O lineman's hands from steering them. LB's aren't plugging holes. Where are the pancakes? I don't see much downfield blocking by the receivers. Tight ends aren't hooking. You can go on and on. Every week it's the same old crap! Somehow somewhere, all techniques are mediocre at best.

    LOL

It will take more than a year to put in a new system. The players that are playing now, will have to be deprogrammed and retrained in basic fundamentals. This is not a one year fix.
