  1. Not really sure, but without doing any research, I would say Texas schools.
  2. Taking that into account, do you think that moving the student section was all in the name of progress? Was this move really altruistic, as opposed to serving a specific demographic? Like I said before, I no longer have student tickets - haven't since I graduated undergrad. This doesn't affect me whatsoever. Honestly, this article would not have really bothered me at all - all others things being equal. But couple this with the moving of the student-section - and that just makes a lot of unhappy people. I don't like the student section move, this only makes the student section even less of a factor for opposing teams. Well, I wouldn't mind the student section moving if they weren't putting them up AWAY from the field. No offense, but how threatened is the other team going to be with a bunch of old people clapping their hands? Granted, it's not all older people that will now sit adjacent to the visiting team, but I would guess that's where most of these older folks will go now because I am sure they were the ones who complained about not being able to see. Have you noticed where the students are at other stadiums? Have you also noticed how many students there are at other stadiums? Memorial Stadium was not built to project crowd noise onto the field. Therefore, the noise has to come from close to the field in order for players - and especially the visitors - to be affected. Granted, there are others in the crowd that yell until their throats are bleeding, but the students have a special bond to the team - they attend the University. They are loud, and get the rest of the crowd even more into it (see Kyle Field). Not only is the crowd loud down in A&M Land, but the students stand...................the entire game!!! So, to answer you: no, I don't agree with moving the student section, because it is a University game. If it was an NFL or other pro game, it wouldn't matter. Move those youngins. But the simple fact of the matter is that this is not the NFL. This is NCAA. Collegiate. It makes me sick taking the students out and putting them somewhere that they are no longer a factor just to please ticket holders.
  3. this is a joke right? Of course it's a joke dude! What was Daniel Lee?? The 8th string kicker?? Come on..... Joke? Apparently you have no idea what this kid could do... He's like the Chuck Norris of kickers. Que the "Daniel Lee doesn't kick the ball - it jumps over the goal post to avoid being destroyed" posts... You guys just don't get it, do you? You just don't grasp how serious this situation is. Well, I have this feeling when we are down 14-13 against Oklahoma, in the fourth quarter with time ticking away, and within range for a game winning field goal, everyone will say, "Hey, send Daniel Lee out to win this thing!" You know what will happen? Daniel Lee won't be there! Bo kicked him off the team! We are doomed...doomed I tell you...dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (takes breath) oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed!!!
  4. First of all, I want to reiterate: without students, there would be no University. Without a University, there would be no football program. Students are the center of the program, and the center of the University...season ticket holders are not. And I don't quite get this "me" generation thing you keep mentioning. It doesn't make any sense to me, because it is human nature to think of oneself; this article is a perfect example. This fan is not thinking of all the possible money that these new club seats will generate; nor is he thinking about how that money could benefit the University, its programs, and/or its facilities (not really sure how the football money is distributed). Nope, he is thinking about how this move will displace him. He is thinking how he won't be able to have the good view anymore, and how he doesn't think he should have to move because he donates money and has been a fan for 50 years. In case you missed it: he is thinking of himself and himself only. Not sure, but I think that would fit into your definition of the "me" generation. Besides, if it were up to the older generation, everything would still be done the same exact way. I would be fine with this if it weren't for our dynamic environment. That just doesn't work. Seating and tickets prices cannot and will not stay the same forever and it is foolish to think so. Is he a great Husker fan? Yes, and we all thank him for that. Is he a better Husker fan than everyone else because he has been a fan and donating to the team for 50 years? No, and it always annoys me when some individuals in the older generation walk around acting like everyone owes them something. We don't owe them a damn thing. Sorry, but it's the truth. I treat everyone the way I would like to be treated regardless of how old or young. I treat people with respect and that's the way it should be. It's very hypocritical to take the stance that the "me" generation is always thinking about themselves when you do the same thing, and the guy that is quoted in this article is doing the same exact thing! We are all part of the "me" generation...it's human nature, and there is no way you can argue this. It sucks that people have to be moved in order for the new changes to take place. But the changes being made aren't for the hell of it. In the future, this will create the greatest amount of good, for the greatest amount of people (fans). I believe this was what Mr. Bentham was talking about when he coined the term Utilitarianism.
  5. this is a joke right? Of course it's a joke dude! What was Daniel Lee?? The 8th string kicker?? Come on..... Joke? Apparently you have no idea what this kid could do...
  6. I had high hopes for the Huskers this season. But now that Daniel Lee has left we don't stand a chance..................................
  7. Asante has alot of potential. However, I would rather see him as a DB right now. Why? Because there is will be no leadership in the secondary if he takes a LB role (although one could successfully argue there was no leadership at all on the defense last year). Pelini said from the start that everyone will be held accountable. I think along these same lines, each part of the defense will have its unnamed leader. I say unnamed because I don't think it will be an official title or anything, it will just be the person players go to for help and support. I think this is needed quite honestly, and there definitely needs to be an overall defensive leader. I would like to see our defense have a SS/LB hybrid position though. I think it really mixes up the defense and puts them at an advantage because it is usually not known before the snap where that individual will be going. I know there is probably no way this would happen, but I play NCAA Football 2008 on PS2 and use the Cornhuskers in Dynasty mode. I set up a 3-3-5 defense, but the two safeties (not the FS) are actually recruited LBs, so I technically have 5 LBs on the field. The defense is intense, and the run stands almost no chance against my D. And if those receivers are coming across the middle, they better be able to hang onto the ball! Not sure how practical this would be in real life though (thinks back to when Cosgrove utilized the 3-3-5 defense ALL GAME against Missouri unsuccessfully and shutters)...
  8. They announce the winner tomorrow (March 18th). I know I will be on the edge of my seat...
  9. I kind of recall NU linebackers being on the field last season. I'm pretty sure they were anyway...
  10. Hmmm...this might be a really long post that seems to fall off subject, but if you read the whole thing, I promise everything will be tied together. First, I want to preface this by saying I am fairly confident that Ganz will get the starting position at QB. He's familiar with Watson, he's familiar with the system, and he knows what needs to be done to make this offense work. Yes, Ganz did throw a fair amount of interceptions for the amount of play time he saw last season. I'm not going to say he threw the interceptions because he was told that he was not allowed to scramble by Callahan and therefore tried to throw into coverage. I don't know what was said, and therefore, I don't want to make any assumptions. However, what I do know is that - with the exception of the Colorado game - Ganz threw those interceptions when down 2-3 TDs or more! When down by that much it's pretty obvious that passing is really the only way to get back into the game quickly. So, the defense was usually in Nickel or Dime anticipating the pass. With that many DBs in the game, of course there will be alot of interceptions thrown. And perhaps Ganz (just like Keller) tried to force many of the passes because their defense wasn't helping any, so it turned into a shootout basically. Unfortunately, NU lost the shootout most of the time because the opponent's D was alot better than ours. It's been said a million times over: defense wins championships. It's just not a cute saying that someone came up with; it's the truth. If our defense is at least average (maybe 50th or better in the country), I would say that the amount of interceptions Ganz throws will drastically decrease. Why? Because he's not climbing up hill. It's not all on his shoulders. NU will still be able to run the ball, which will keep our opponent's D on their feet and likely exploit passing mismatches (i.e., LB covering a WR). Another thing I want to mention is this idea that Witt is not mobile. Granted, on the recruiting report it lists him as a "pro style QB" (whatever that means). However, if you look at his recruiting video, there are only a few plays in which he actually drops back in the pocket and then delivers the ball. Most of the video is him scrambling around in the pocket, running the option, QB draws, or when he realizes the passing play isn't going to work he tucks the ball and runs it. Many of the running plays he leaves many D linemen, LBs, and DBs in the dust. So I don't know where this notion of Witt being similar to Keller comes from, but it simply isn't true. Go look at his recruiting videos if you don't believe me. I am not saying that Witt will win Ganz's starting spot, but I do believe he is just as mobile as Ganz. Not only that, but he has a little more size to him to withstand defensive punishment. Whoever wins the top spot, I hope Watson decides to involve them in the running game a little more. I want the opposing defense to be confused as to who will be getting the ball (i.e., will it be a handoff to Lucky, will the QB tuck the ball and run with it, will the QB throw the ball?). I'm probably just as pumped for this new season to start as the Husker players! Go Big Red!
  11. I think the season needs to start before anymore NU players do something stupid. Seriously, it's getting kind of ridiculous. Pretty soon we won't have any players because they will all either be injured (not that this is the "something" stupid I was talking about) or suspended. I think Bo needs to have a meeting to tell them what he thinks of their shenanigans. Either that, or he needs to drop kick them.
  12. That is where you are mistaken. It has been 30 years or more since students have been the center of the football team. Still, why is it so wrong to try and accomodate students (who may or may not want to be rowdy) and also accomodate other fans (many of whom are alums and people who actually give money to the football team) who want (or need as another poster pointed out) to watch the game from their seats? Just because students do something one way doesn't mean that is the right or only way to do it. How about if we show everyone else a little respect? Hmmm... I have a few things to say to that. 1) Without the students attending UNL paying tuition, fees, books, and whatever bullcrap charges the university can charge them for, there WOULD BE NO UNIVERSITY. To simplify: no students = no reason to have a University. On a similar tangent, to say that students are not the center of the football program is a joke. Last time I checked the athletes on the Husker football team were students. I don't think it gets much more center than that. 2) Since when does going to a football game resemble a tennis match? Seriously. Maybe everyone should just sit down and politely clap when a TD is scored (not too loudly though, wouldn't want to upset anyone with the decibel level). I understand that at times people are annoying at the games. But it happens. That's part of going to see a live football game; you never know if you will actually be able to see the game. I have gone to a few and just about everytime my view is obstructed so I don't get to see 100% of the game. Does that mean I should complain about the old people that wouldn't sit down and get them moved to a different location so I can see? I guess it does. That's why I don't have season tickets, because I want to be able to watch it in the comfort of my home where no one is blocking my view. Did the Huskers' attendance suffer because I wasn't there? Hell no it didn't. Am I going to complain that I can't go to a live game because people stand up in front of me? No, I will just watch the game at home. Trust me, if all of these people who complained give up their seats as if to make a stand, they will be very sad to see when their seats are taken by someone else happy to be at the game. 3) Just because non-students do something one way, does not mean that is the right or only way to do it. 4) If you think the moving of the students is due to anything other than to make a little more money, you are sadly mistaken.
  13. No, you're right. Very little if any tuition pays for the football team or its stadium DIRECTLY. However, I have this funny feeling that if there were no students paying tuition, there would be no school and therefore, no football program. Students are the center of the school, athletics, and any other extra-curricular activities...not ticket holders to a football game.
  14. Here's a story from the OWH: Published Wednesday | March 5, 2008 NU Football: CB Blue will miss spring BY RICH KAIPUST WORLD-HERALD BUREAU LINCOLN — Nebraska will go through spring football practice without cornerback Anthony Blue. Coach Bo Pelini confirmed Tuesday that the sophomore-to-be suffered a knee injury recently in winter conditioning. The severity of the injury was not immediately known. Blue played in all 12 games last season as a true freshman, including two starts. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder from Cedar Hill, Texas, was credited with 18 total tackles and one pass breakup. Blue was expected to go into spring practice as a candidate for a No. 1 job at cornerback. NU must replace seniors Cortney Grixby, Zack Bowman and Andre Jones. Only Armando Murillo returns with starting experience. Contact the Omaha World-Herald newsroom Copyright ©2008 Omaha World-Herald®. All rights reserved. 15. i got an email from a guy who says he's a deposed prince from nigeria and needs my help in obtaining a substantial amount of money from a bank using a post-dated check and my bank account. i checked with my brother and he said he got *THE EXACT SAME EMAIL*! it's GOTTA be legit, right? Not sure which is worse: people posting rumors about Husker football or people posting sarcastic comments about "something they have heard from a friend's uncle's dog's brother." Oh no, I just did it. I'm hilarious! That's the first time it has ever been done in the history of the board. I rule.
  16. It better have pictures. I don't think reading is his strong suit, because he couldn't get the hint last year. Try this link http://fastandfuriousfootball.com/playbook.html Very interesting information, and while it isn't exactly what I was looking for, it does have most of the basic formations. Thanks!
  17. ...where I can go online to read all about different defensive formations and in what situation(s) each formation is used? I have searched it on Google but most sites require you to register and pay a fee...something I am not interested in doing. Sorry if this is in the wrong location, but since NU will be utilizing a different defensive strategy this season, I thought it would be interesting to read up on different strategies and when each one is used. So if anyone knows of any good websites with great information, post them on here! Thanks!
  18. Okay, okay. I will be the first to admit that when I saw the title for this thread I rolled my eyes. But after reading the comments made, so far, I like the discussion. There are many individuals making very good points: No kidding! Not only am I excited for NU's season to start, I'm anxious for college football to start up again. This past season I had an absolute blast watching various football games with a variety of people (family, friends, my wife) and had a blast eating good food, joking around with whoever was watching the game with me, and of course, drinking beer. I hope all teams in the Big 12 have another great year of football. I really want the Big 12 to dominate this year, and it appears they definitely have the potential to do just that. With Bo taking over NU's struggling team, they definitely have a chance at putting in a great season. Kansas, Mizzou, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, perhaps KSU (just depends how talented those juco players really are), and Colorado all have the potential to do very well this season. Makes me excited just thinking about it. Go Big Red and Go Big 12! This is true as it has ever been (evident from this past season where alot of teams surprised many people by doing very well). I think this is especially true in the Big 12. As I mentioned above, there are many teams within the Big 12 that have the potential to have an excellent season. NU will have their hands full this season! I can see your thought process here. Callahan was all about getting the top ranked players, and in my opinion, he was trying to set up something similar to what Pete has done with USC. But, these top ranked players are just an opinion, because as we saw from last season, it didn't seem to help our team much. However, I think a fundamental problem with the Callahan regime was that while he was great at recruiting talent, he wasn't too swell at developing that talent. I know that Bo and company are very good at that, and this is evident if you look at Bo's past defenses he was a part of. I have great hope that alot of players that were ranked very high while being recruited, but didn't have the best season last year, may excel under new direction. But, like I previously hammered into everyone's head above, the Big 12 Conference has alot of potential and therefore, alot of competition for Nebraska. Should be an interesting season!
  19. The few times he had the chance to prove himself on 3rd and short he fumbled. Okay, and what's your point?
  20. See this thread for conversations relating to this article.
  21. It's getting tougher and tougher to decide who will be good year-to-year. But here is my guess... 1 Oklahoma 2 Mizzou 3 Texas 4 Texas Tech 5 Kansas 6 Nebraska 7 Colorado 8 A&M 9 Oklahoma State 10 Iowa State 11 Kansas State 12 Baylor I have this feeling that Oklahoma, Mizzou, & Texas are going to be tough to beat. Unfortunately for NU, we get to face 2 out of the 3 of those teams. Another team that could possibly do well - depending on how good the 18-19 juco recruits actually are - is Kansas State Community College (KSCC). It's quite obvious Prince wants out, so he's trying to beef up his team in a short period of time so he gets other offers. Whether this works or not depends on how good those juco players actually are. Should be another interesting NCAA football season. I look forward to it!
  22. Maybe but I didn't see a quote from Pederson or Calllllllahan anywhere. If you miss your boys so much, Pitt just got their guy back, and the Jets just got the offensive genious they were looking for. HEY! This is New York Jets Callahan. J-E-T-S, J-E-T-S...that spells JETS..............Hussssker fans
