  1. Cotton wouldn't be OC, he'd o-line coach. Which is the job Frank really wanted him for. Frank accepted him at OC because Gill was untested and other guys didn't take the bait. I do agree with the point about Cotton in '03 though. Lord was a safety playing qb out of necessity. He was an average option-qb that was good for the occasional play-action long-ball but otherwise couldn't pass. Cotton was playcalling/scheming with one hand tied behind his back. If we had a real qb in '03 those losses are considerably closer, Mizzou goes down to the wire. In Lord's defense he was out there doing the best he could. If Carl Crawford had decided to play football I think Lord would have been a money strong-safety for us.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised to see Carl Pelini but no way is he DC. Jeff Bowden wasn't really a problem til nepotism got him to OC-status. Then he was over his head.
  3. The sad part is that this was supposed to be our year, we lose a fair amount of starters after this. But at-least we've discovered Ganz and he can not-only run the WCO but can do the spread-option elements that have been talked about. Our receiving-corps loses a ton. We could use Ron Brown's experience here if he is really coming. The D gets nailed majorly at LB and corner. Even if Bo wasn't a zone guy we'd need to be in '08. Marvin will have his work cut out for him. A retun to physical practices will definitely help our tackling and intensity. Hopefully Kennedy was just following orders when it comes to S&C and wasn't doing what he wanted, otherwise we gotta get Bailey back. With injuries we had to play a fair amount of young o-linemne at the end and we were moving the ball, that bodes well. It is hard to say how good our D will be. In O2 we were average, a big jump made us quality. This year we were horrid, we need a big jump just to get to average again. Don't expect our '03, I'd expect more of an '02. I'll predict 8-4, what we would have been this year if we had an actual defense, Ganz got his shot when our O slumped, and the team was a little better managed(physical practices that teach fundamenta, hardnosed football and better motivation). The sched will be about the same overall. The top teams will be better but we do get Baylor back and no Wake.
  4. It would be a similar thing to what BC has done with Watson and Norvelle. They helped BC gameplan and had input during the game but BC had final say on plays. Pete Carroll still acts as USC's DC.
  5. IMO he is probably done as a HC. But his OC-cred is still definitely there. I think he'll get an OC job next season in the NFL.
  6. If he doesn't get the HC job at UCLA or Washington State then DeWayne Walker would be a good option at DC. He managed to solidify the D at forever-soft UCLA. He could do it here.
  7. They are supposed to be pushing the walk-on program. Maybe they want the kid to give Neb a try. But with the rising price of education it is hard to pass-up a full-ride for a shot at Neb. Folks can't just blame BC for fewer walk-ons. Part of it is that the Buffalos, Ohios, and ISU's are harvesting some guys. Plus you have UNO, Chadron, etc. recruiting. I love the 'skers as much as the next guy but if I know I can play(not just practice, play) and I'm not putting a major financial burden on my parents or myself I don't know if I'd pass on my "bird in the hand" at UNO either.
  8. Losing the qb has various effects with different teams. Both times Pat White got hurt at WV the results were dire. Their back-up SUCKS. Their vaunted O screeched to a halt. It cost them a chance at the title. Losing Dixon was huge for Oregon. LSU's qb's are approximately equal. Flynn has more experience, Perriloux more upside. The drop-off is small.
  9. I interpreted that the same way. IMO next year we'll see the WCSO -West Coast Spread Option. Ganz should do well with it. Seems to me that TO wants to fix what was broken(the stuff Bo's hire addresses-defense, motivation, and embracing hard-nosed, husker football) while keeping what was working-the majority of what we were doing with the WCO. I think we'll see a more physical, college-ball oriented version of what we've been doing for the past four years.
  10. Buffalo is poised for a winning season in '08, they have Willy and a fair amount of other starters back. After performing a small miracle at Buffalo Gill will be a BCS-conference HC. I don't see him passing that up. IMO if Gill had one more season at Buffalo to turn them around he'd be getting the nod over Bo. But still in mid-turnaround mode he is a tough sell and fans/boosters would scream buddy-hire.
  11. I obviously don't know but I think TO likes Watson and BO has agreed to give it a shot. In the presser Bo said the O wasn't the problem and they'd just change a few things from the way they were doing them before. That says to me that Watson is going to be running the WCO with spread-option elements that TO and BO will dig. Personally, I'm meh on Watson. The majority of his O's at CU were nothing special but Tedford wanted him at Cal and TO seems to like him so hopefully there is something here I don't see. That he has learned the WCO under a guy that knows it quite well, he knows the players, and he knows the recruits obviously all help his case. I think they are looking to keep what has worked under BC and fix what was broken.
  12. IMO OU is the best team in the country right now. They dominated Mizzou last night. But LSU has been getting love all season and that loss to CU hurts OU.
  13. Marvin and Ron are damn good coaches and good role-models for the kids. It would be good to see them back.
  14. Hiring the right guys and enabling them to do their jobs is HUGE. You have the right staff and let them do their jobs you will look like smart. We have seen what the wrong hires can do. The coming weeks will play a major part in whether Bo works-out or not.
  15. I know that Peveto, LSU's LB-coach/Special-teams coordinator is supposed to be in the DC-mix. I know Bo had problems with Venables but maybe he'd do coDC's. Dan McCarney or Phil Bennett could be worth looking at. I still want to see a Marvin Sanders db's/co-DC /Dan McCarney d-line/co-DC combo. They are good coaches and definitely Neb-type guys. Bo may bring his brother Carl over from Ohio. Ron Brown is a great coach that had multiple offers to move-on to bigger jobs. He didn't move because he had strong allegiances to his ministry and Neb. He'd be a nice addition if he is still interested in coaching. Cotton maybe for O-line. That is what Frank really wanted him for. The OC-thing only happened because Frank was scared to hand the reigns to an unproven Turner(though Frank was unproven when he handed himself the OC-reigns) and the other potentidials didn't take the bait. Maybe Wags could stay, from what he said the other day he wasn't getting to do what he wanted with the O-line before.
  16. My bad, I had to do quality-time with the girlfriend last night. I didn't realize WV screwed the pooch against Pit. WTF is up with that? Way to go mountaineers. I amend my post, I have no problem with LSU playing for it all since WV is out of the picture.
  17. If they are smart they will do what they should've at the beginning and hire Kelly. Dude is a hell of a coach and he coached in the state a long time. Lane Kiffin and Petrino have been gryst for the rumor-mill. If any job could bring them back to college-ball it could be this one. Petrino would likely cost a pretty penny. Mich has money but I'm not sure how much they are willing to pay. I don't see them doing a Bama and buying a coach.
  18. IMO two-losses is still two losses and LSU should not play for it all. But if they do I wouldn't mind Bo coaching. I think a national-championship ring on his finger would look nice going down the home-stretch of recruiting. A championship would make a very solid impression on the recruits and our current players. He would look like money, a guy to listen to.
  19. I think the decision may have been different if Gill had one more year at Buffalo. They have Willy(their qb) and a fair amount of other starters back. If their AD's gets them a winnable noncon game they'll likely finish with a very nice record in '08 that will make Gill a much more viable candidate for a big job. Turner has done very respectable things at Buffalo but without the turnaround being complete yet he was a tough sell.
  20. Ya what divided the fans last time was the canning of a 10-3 staff. There are still strong feelings about that on both sides four years later. BO was probably a more popular choice then than now. He'd have brought the fans back together. But Pedey wanted a guy from the NFL as part if his "culture change". Carroll was on-fire than so Simple Stevey assumed about any guy from the pro's would kick ass. Ya right. Bo wasn't my top choice. I would have preferred a proven HC like Kelly. But I'm not anti-Bo by any means. I want to see what type of staff he puts together, that will give some indication of where we are going. The huskernation was not divided on BC's firing and I think for the most part they are behind Bo. This isn't 2003 by any means.
  21. So what is the deal? Is Flyn banged-up? Nice adjustments by Bo after a rough start.
  22. As far as the search-agency goes it does seem like kind of a waste. Maybe TO just wanted to see what worthwhile candidates would be interested. It would help to know how interested Kelly, Grobe, etc were. I'm sure Johnson would be interested, I'd like to have seen him get an interview. Without knowing everything that went on it is hard to say but on the surface it does seem kinda like smoke and mirrors. As far as Sipple goes props to him for getting himself out of the ice and cold. He is probably getting the "inside scoop" at a strip-joint. During his lapdance eeeeeeeeeeeerrr inquiry with Mystigue he found out that Grobe likes the big asses and isn't much of a tipper. Nice Sip, if there is anything better than slacking it is slacking in the sun on the company-dime.
  23. Gill has Willy and a good amount of other starters back next year. If Buffalo has any winnable non-con games next season they are headed to a nice record, a bowl, and a nice job-offer at some BCS-school for Gill. Whether Gill or Bo will be the better HC only time will tell. My regret is that Gill didn't get the Buffalo job sooner. If he could have the year Buffalo is likely to have in '08 in '07 Gill likely would be getting more love and the decision may have been different.
  24. One of those games went into triple-OT, so that stat is very misleading. If you just count what was done in regulaton that stat is more like 26pts per game But I do think Bo has saw this coming for some time and has likely been coaching distracted. We've seen it before from outgoing coordinators like Richt and Mike Stoops.
