  1. Actually they are behind the Omaha School for the Blind, those kids are taught to use their hands.
  2. I'm wishing for Saturday, but I guess I can hold until Monday! Hey, that's only 2 more weeks!
  3. I woud argue that he "THNKS" he's smart, and can't adjust schemes or relate to players. He has a terrible pattern, and I would like to free the student-athletes playing for Nebraska from him and his ego. NY Times Woodson also said Callahan failed to listen to his veterans. Even some Raiders on offense, where Callahan had made his mark as Gruden's offensive coordinator for four seasons, questioned Callahan's interpersonal skills. As the losses mounted, Callahan let loose with barbs the players believed should have stayed in house. In a players-only meeting midway through the season, they tore into Callahan. One of his strengths as a teacher became clouded by his failure to stand in lockstep with his players, Raiders guard Corey Hulsey said. ''The biggest problem was when Callahan would go public with things and not deal with the team,'' Hulsey said Thursday Hulsey added: ''You're considered a man at 18. You've got guys 39, 40 and 41 years old that took offense to what he said. I never had any quarrels with him, but that was the biggest thing: he didn't treat the guys like men.'' Rejecting a New Playbook As early as the preseason, some players rejected parts of the new playbook even while they studied it. Then the games began for real. Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon yelled at Callahan and his offensive coordinator, Marc Trestman, during the Raiders' 31-10 loss in Denver in Week 3. An offense that had ranked first in 2002 looked predictable in 2003, prompting Callahan to tell reporters after the defeat: ''I think teams have caught up to us. I would freely admit that.'' One Raiders defensive player, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Callahan tried to junk too much of an offense that the team had used, with success, for years, and that the loss to Gruden in the Super Bowl was the catalyst. ''The whole offense was changed, and that made Rich uncomfortable,'' the player said of Callahan's retooling. ''We were coming out just throwing the ball, not running the ball, even on third-and-inches. I got the sense that he was saying, 'Look, I'm running my stuff and nobody else's stuff.' ''I think he could have changed a couple of plays at a time, which would have kept Rich in a groove. That's why a lot of people were jumping offside. They were used to something else.'' Still, the atmosphere of losing did not stop the players from bonding, even in volatile times. As the rift grew among Callahan and the players, Shaw, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in the 2001 season, became a locker-room arbitrator of sorts. ''I would be the last guy to walk into the defensive-backs meeting,'' Shaw said, ''and all of the players would stand up and say, 'All rise, Judge Terrance Shaw presiding.' ''I then said somebody's jersey number. If a player had gotten into it with a coach at practice, I'd say, 'Case 0033: Anthony Dorsett versus the Raiders' or 'Case 0024: Woodson versus Callahan.' ''It was like Judge Wapner every morning on 'The People's Court.' At the end, things were bad and we were just trying to get some humor from it.'' The Raiders ultimately played, losing by a touchdown to the Chargers on the same field where the Buccaneers humiliated them last January. In the ensuing days, Davis told reporters in the Bay Area that the Raiders were not a team in disarray, but Gannon took a different view. ''I wouldn't say I'd take a torch to the place, but it wouldn't be far from that,'' said Gannon, who missed the final nine games because of a shoulder injury. ''We all have to accept responsibility. I have to demand more out of people around me. I ask for more out of our coaches. Stuff needs to get fixed, and it didn't. It just continued to get worse to the point where it was disgraceful.'' Ten days after being fired, Callahan was named the coach at Nebraska.''That one year, we loved playing for Coach Callahan,'' Shaw said of the Super Bowl trip. ''We ran through the wall for that guy. But once this season started, guys felt like they were jilted without explanation.'' Sound Familiar??????????????
  4. We have noticed that the fertilizer is way to deep through out the state, somebody has been spreading it on way too thick for the past four years. Everything is unhealthy and burnt out, and we would like the person spreading all this crap to go somewhere else. That's why I called you.
  5. Why Hauck? Major success & a great record. Sure it's 1-AA but that is the same senario that Tressel had coming from Youngstown State. Tressel didn't win every championship at YSU, but he had solid, competetive teams almost every year, and most of the time won his conference. 1986 Youngstown State 2-9 2-5 1987 Youngstown State 8-4 5-1 1988 Youngstown State 4-7 1989 Youngstown State 9-4 1990 Youngstown State 11-1 1991 Youngstown State 12-3 1-AA Champs 1992 Youngstown State 11-3-1 1993 Youngstown State 13-2 1-AA Champs 1994 Youngstown State 14-0-1 1-AA Champs 1995 Youngstown State 3-8 1996 Youngstown State 8-3 1997 Youngstown State 13-2 4-2 1998 Youngstown State 6-5 3-3 1999 Youngstown State 12-3 5-1 2000 Youngstown State 9-3 4-2 Youngstown State: 135-57-2 Tressel went 3-8 in his 10th year at YSU. Probabbly lost to Western Illinois and Southeast Missouri State, why hire him? My point is I don't need a coach that will make the fans happy or a big splash..... I want to see them consistently win. THE HAUCK FILE Year-by-Year at Montana Year...Overall....Big Sky 2003......9-4..........5-2* 2004.....12-3.........6-1* 2005......8-4..........5-2* 2006......12-2.........8-0* 2007.......9-0..........6-0 Totals...50-13.......33-5 *Won Big Sky title
  6. Since we are all adding names to the imaginary coaching list (is there is a list I'm sure T.O. has a handle on it) I thought I'd add two to the fire. UConn Head Coach Randy Edsall UConn Bio and to a lesser extent Montana Head Coach Bobby Hauck Montana Bio The number one thing I want in a coach is a track record of success. I want a coach that has brought a program to new heights, sustained or built winning wherever they have been. As we have seen, taking someone else's success and running it downhill is painful to watch. I want a guy with a record of building winners. I'm sure T.O. will make us proud.
  7. That's Awesome! "The NCAA and the Presidents of the Universities of the Big 12 conference have decided, that because of multiple recruiting and play for pay scandles, that the University of Oklahoma will immediately have Steve Peterson, Bill Callahan, and Kevin Cosgrove placed in the A.D., head coach, and defensive coordinator positions for no less than 6 years. Effectively, the same punishment we gave SMU." - Some NCCA Media Hack
  8. About time for Bo Pelini's Cornhuskers Ask Bo to Coach NU Abysmal Blowouts by Callahan Always Baked Colorado
  9. Research a little before posting, you just come across as ignorant. 2003 Won 10, Lost 3 Big 12: Won 5, Lost 3, second place North Division Coach Frank Solich (Bo Pelini acting head coach for bowl game) Date Opponent Site Result AP Rank Att. The OFFENSE should have been taken out back and shot in 2003. Bo didn't bad mouth the UNIVERSITY he bad mouthed that *(^_#$#@_ Athletic Director that we had. They totally screwed him over, and he wasn't very political about it. The "mutiny he created" was that the players loved him and wanted him to stay. You seem very Anti-Bo but your facts don't add up.
  10. Man, I thought I was the biggest Husker fan around, but damn...... it's a football team, and I like having both my nuts! I would really, really like Pelini to be the next head coach, and KEEP BOTH OF MY NUTS! Am I asking for too much?
  11. The problem here is that we won't know that for 10 years at least. If Meyer had the saintly head coach title bestowed on him, he would have gone from WR coach at Notre Dame to Head Coach of Florida. Coaches need to grow and establish themselves. I just don't think that we know how Pelini will be as a head coach, other than his defensive teams and how he coached for our bowl game.....it is all there is to go on. That said, great coaches come from somewhere. I think Peleini has that "it" not even being able to expain what "it" is. Only other time I had that feeling was when OSU hired Tressel, I had seen him at Youngstown State and KNEW that the guy would put up W's.
  12. I don't think that it is lying, if it were to happen. Situations change, 25 years ago I said I'd never get married...... but the situation changed. TO can say what he believes at the time, but as interm AD he also has a responsibility to the University to protect it from damage and long term harm. I would like to believe that TO is a smart businessman, and crafty executive. He needs to correct this train wreck as quickly as possible.....plus why not get a jump on the other schools that will have openings, a competetive advantage in the head coach search. That said, I think Callahan is full of it up to his ears and could lie his way into or out of anything. He is just very good at it and thinks he's so smart. Other than that I think he is doing an excellent job in all areas.
  13. well then I guess I will repeat myself.. clearly stated that I am not judging what he did. I am just calling what he did by its name--> running up the score. thats all. theres really not much to it. its not that hard OK Mel, I'll bite! Damn right Kansas ran up the score. Why not, it fun as hell to throw 70's on the board and lather up all of you offensive statistics. It's fun to pound your nemesis into the ground. It's cleansing for Kansas to beat Nebraska that well, and to attempt to have a better looking score than Missouri did when they pounded Nebraska. I agree with you, it is running up the score. To say T.O. never did that is a mute point. TO isn't a coach anymore. If you are insinuating that TO is classier than Mangino, I think Mangino would agree with you, and not really give a crap. There are 85 scholies, some on red-shirt, times are different, we don't dress 135 players for Ball State at home anymore so the practice squad kids can get a few minutes when the score is 87 - 3. Now we have to hold our breath as the last pass bounces off some 2* WR from the 4th best football school in Indiana. This is D-I football, if we can't play with the big, bad Kansas's (Missouris, aTm's) of the world maybe we should get on a different ride. Do you know why they run up the score? BECAUSE THEY CAN!
  14. Biily C. (Originally Fredo Corleone): It ain't the way I wanted it! I can handle things! I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect
  15. Nebraska has now allowed 2,182 yards rushing on the season. The only team with more rushing yards allowed was Louisiana-Laf., and they did't play this week. The team behind NU is Toledo. Unless Toledo allows 379 Yards rushing to 1 - 7 Northern Illinois Nebraska will be last in 1-A. Nearing halftime they have only allowed 60 yards. SAD!
  16. I'm sure Dr. Tom doesn't give two craps about what a message board says. Just like I don't give two craps what you say. For a moderator, your a really intelligent, level headed person..... duely encouraging the message board process and thus elevating your position as someone to be respected. Kudos to you. It goes to show that even though you rode the short bus, you can asspire to be a message board moderator. I've been here about three weeks. In that time I have registered, made a few posts, not attacked anybody for their input, and learned that you are the reason that :asshat exsists.
  17. I just wanted to show that this is NOTHING NEW. I live in Wisconsin, plagued by Badger fans. They were laughing when Cosgrove left and made comments like "we will help him pack, and give him a gas card with enough on it to get him across the border." They were very happy when he left. I wanted to show it was strictly a "buddy" hire. Some on this board have said "He has been a DC for 15 years, he hasn't suddenly forgot how to coach." That's what prompted the research.
  18. In the spirit of helping the evaluation process, I have tried to track some of our Defensive Coordinator's career in that title, and have a few stats.... .........Scoring Defense Rank ....WISCONSIN..........NEBRASKA ........43........2007.........91 .........2.........2006.........24 ........48........2005.........25 .........6.........2004.........71 ==================== ........50........2003.........2 ........38........2002.........45 ........81........2001.........6 ........34........2000.........26 8 year average rank for Cosgrove 52nd at 24.3 PPG 8 year average rank w/o Cosgrove 22nd at 18.5 PPG Wisconsin's scoring defense ranking improved, on average 26 places after Cozgrove left.....and gave up 5.3 PPG less. Nebraska's scoring defense ranking fell, on average 33 places since hiring Cosgrove........and gave up 6.2 PPG more Just an additional note.... Pelini over the last 5 years with 3 different teams averages a national ranking of 5 at 14.7 PPG. I believe that Cosgroves evaluation should be nearing compleation. He has a poor history. I don't believe that he forgot how to coach..... this is what you get..... Wisconsin 2001 Allowed 28.8 PPG Ranked 81st Nebraska 2007 Allowing 31.9 PPG Ranked 91st He was hired because of his personal relationship with Callahan, not because of any type of proven success.
  19. You'd lose a coach? Only a certain number of university contacts? So if we lost a coach or two, the AD and Assistant AD could recruit until a new coach is hired? Hey, I just got an idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I disagree. If the problems are coming from Callahan & Coz then break them off after the Texas game (as the prevelant rumor goes). Let assistants run the team the last few games, and conduct a coaching search during that time. This way you get a full coaching search, maybe salvage some of this season, and announce a new coach as soon as the canidate becomes available (November 24th or Dec. 1). That allows them time to get to Lincoln, hire assistants, begin their recruiting before the holidays, and start making visits. Having Watson as a temporary Head Coach would keep some continuity for the remainder of the season, it wouldn't be a new system during the season. Watson called the plays in the first half against A&M and did a good job. If you wait to break off Callahan at seasons end, then start a coaching search it would be January before a new coach would get to recruiting. If you try to conduct a search uder the table, most coaches nationally will find out, and consider it underhanded and a bad sign..... a job to avoid...... we DON'T want that again. Fire Callahan & Cozgrove after Texas then begin the well thought out, National coaching search!
  21. Well, if they aren't that good, then our 'coach' shouldn't have recruited them. Or he should have taken the talent they have and cultivated it, taught them. I think the players have talent, and our coaches don't know what to do with it. Whomever is hired should get 3 to 5 years before being judged. Even at years 3 & 4 you are working with some of the previous coaches recruits, but YOU have been COACHING & TEACHING them for 3 years, and filling in the "holes" with your new recruits. By that point there needs to be accountability for your methods (Recruiting, Coaching, Teaching, Schemes, etc.) I think the talent level is pretty high, but the coaching is poor, specifically player development, schemes, and techniques. Specifically, I don't beleive that the Husker defense is the 110 th most talented in the country.
  22. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? 24 years 2) What/who led you to The Nation? My H.S. in suburban Chicago ran a Husker/Option offense. 23. I am not in the know, just taking a stab. Do you thinks it's like a job interview where the boss is great in the interview, personable, freindly, talking up how much they need you...........then you start work and barely ever see or talk to the boss. You end up with a job that you love and friends that you like and everything is going good except job performance, becuase there is little interaction and training with the employees. I suspect that Callahan is thought of by many on the team as an Offensive mastermind because of how complex his system is and the play calls and how many years it takes to UNDERSTAND. When this incredible system fails the players blame themselves (for not knowing enough, or executing properly) and the coaches do to an extent also (we need to execute). The players work harder the next week only to come out a struggle again..... feel worse, coach blames them, "I'm doing an excellent job", players thinking they suck. It spirals out of control until people get fired. That's how I think he lost this team. 1) The offense can't be like the pro's, these kids only get 20 hours a week on football and they should be practicing fundamentals not spending 18 hours a week lining up in formations and walking through your diagrams. 2) A good football coach NEVER blames his players. They are kids, you are a man being paid very well. TAKE THE BLAME weather you should or not. It should be in the job description. 3) Have 3 bread & butter plays (2 run, 1 pass) that you run EVERY PRACTICE. Every player on the team should run those plays 30 - 50 times. It breads confidence, and can re-establish the tone after a tough series. My BIG question is who is smarter..... the coach that has a 800 page play book and a sub-500 team - or - the coach with an 80 page playbook that is 7 - 1 I believe Callahan would choose the first, and that's why he needs to go.
  24. I am with ya Dan, full search, multiple qualified canidates! I won't be mad if Pelini doesn't get the job...... I will be mad if he doesn't get the proper consideration!
  25. The Yahoo list is before bowl games, and sorted by POINTS PER GAME. THE NCAA list is after bowl game, and sorted by YARDS PER GAME. I would typically use points per game, but can understand the arguement for either. ALSO.... Those were not Bo's recruits. Using the NCCA Statistics....... YEAR.......OFFENSE RANK.......DEFENSE RANK.......RECORD 2002................61st......................55th..................7 - 7 2003................83rd.....................11th.................10 - 3.......Pelini's year.... 2004................69th.....................56th..................5 - 6 Also, in the Mizzou game in 2003 we had 4 fumbles & 1 INT.... The KSU Game we had 2 fumbles & 2 INT's When you have 4 or 5 turnovers, it isn't out of the ordinary to give up 30 points. That is why people have been saying that Pelini was a great coach. With a defense ranked 55th in 2003 we could have had a MUCH worse record than 10 - 3.
