  1. The contract extension was a big mistake. And it's the kind of scenario we're seeing all too often in athletics these days. It's almost as if both the coach and AD know the coach is on the way out, so they cook up the extension and buyout as a golden parachute. It's weird.
  2. Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!! Why were we not informed that you were on this show? Were you a member at the time? I'm calling foul on this one.
  3. Last two spots on the Starting Lineup are open for nominations. If there's someone whose opinion you respect and they're not already on the team, now is your last chance to nominate them.

I don't think we have money for a tandem bicycle in the budget this year. It's gonna have to be something a little less costly. Stay tuned....

There's more than one person inside who?

There are two sweaty cheerleaders wearing only G-strings inside Lil Red. At least that's the rumor.

  4. The thing I've always liked about Sipple is his level-headedness. He says the things that should be said. Sometimes that doesn't please the sky-is-falling crowd because the tenor of his articles are more upbeat than they're feeling after a football loss. Because of this, Sip is often pegged as a fan-boy rather than a reporter. Bottom line is, Sip tends to see things from a much keener perspective than the fan in the stands. He is more fair than many of the other journalists covering Husker sports. And while it's painful to read an article like this, I think it is also a fair analysis of the state of the program.
  5. Equipment Manager: 1) Upwardly Mobile – The Equipment Manager has dreams of climbing the coaching ranks, and gets this position because he has shown the potential to hold a higher office. HuskerBoard’s Equipment Manager is a guy who may be just starting out, but who already exhibits the potential to one day become a Head Coach or a Coordinator. 2) Coachability – Aspiring to the coaching ranks is a noble pursuit, but there is a steep learning curve. The Equipment Manager needs to be able to take instruction well, and put that instruction to good use. So this position should be filled by a guy who learns from the Vets and applies what he learns in his posts. This is not just someone whose ideas have no conviction, just someone who is willing to listen and learn from solid advice. 3) Starting Small – Let’s face it, the road to the coaching ranks begins at the lowest levels. Aspiring Offensive Coordinators and Head Coaches need to get their feet wet somehow. The Equipment Manager should be a guy who, while he hasn’t been around very long, already exhibits some of the qualities we see in the Head Coach and/or Offensive/Defensive Coordinator: gives instruction, fires off frequent posts and provides good information. Ineligible: girlknowsfootball
  6. Towel Boy: 1) New To The Team – This is often the first position available to a new member on the squad. Getting your toe in the door is the first step to greatness, though. This poster should be someone who has never held a positions in the Starting Lineup, but whose contributions have put him slightly ahead of the rest of the crowd. 2) Lots of Hustle – Look on the sidelines of any NFL game and you’ll see the Towel Boy hustling all over, getting whatever is needed as fast as possible. HuskerBoard’s Towel Boy should be a frequent contributor to all of the football forums: Start/Bench, Roster Ratings, Injuries/Updates and of course, Leftovers. This guy is everywhere. 3) High Turnover – Unfortunately, the Towel Boy is a position with lots of potential for turnover. Towel Boys come, Towel Boys go. This is your chance to give that new guy a well-deserved “attaboy” for his contributions, and make him feel like a member of the team. Who knows, he may stick around. Ineligible: Minnesota_Husker
  7. Water Boy: 1) Willingness to Serve – The Water Boy is a key contributor and he must be willing to give his all to the team. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy should contribute more than just posts in the forums, whether that contribution is helping out in the Recruiting forums, finding interesting articles, or chipping in on the daily conversations. Even finding errors on the site, while not so glamorous, help HuskerBoard to be a better place for all. 2) Refreshing – The Water Boy keeps the troops on the field fresh with plenty of cool, refreshing fluids when the game heats up. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy is a guy who adds fresh perspective to the thread, or who brings out that key point that may have been missed so far in the conversation. 3) Unsung Hero – Dehydrated players are bad players. The Water Boy keeps them up and running, but often gets overlooked in the process. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy should be one of those guys whose contributions, while worthwhile, somehow leave him out of the limelight. This is our chance to say “thanks” for all of their work that may seem to go unnoticed.
  8. Defense Special Teamer (Gunner): 1) Insane - Have you ever seen these idiots play football? They run as fast as they possibly can down the field in order to run into an oncoming wedge/defender head on! But, busting up a wedge to allow another player to make the tackle on the returner is very important. This poster probably has some weird and wild ideas, but still get the job done. Eric Martin is just the most recent example of this position, but Brandon Rigoni may be the best. 2) Speedy - Once the ball is in the air, the defensive special teamers need to get to the ball as fast as possible to either make the tackle or down a punt close to the opposing goal-line. There's nothing that frustrates a coach more than giving the other team 20 free yards! We need someone who is a speed poster and has the body control and ability to down the ball inside the 10! 3) Young - Coaches love to use true freshmen on special teams. Normally they don't want their skill players getting hurt on a kick/punt coverage or returning. I think this position should be filled by a "rookie" of HuskerBoard - maybe someone who has only been here for 3 months or less...longer if we can't think of anyone.
  9. Voting is closed. Congratulations, HuskerShark! You're our new Punt Returner!

  11. Cactus, also when you go to YouTube, if you follow any other link than a DIRECT link to the video, it won't work here. What I typically do is, if I see a vid I want to post here after I've been browsing around YouTube for a while, I copy the title, put that in the search field, then click on the link in the search results page. It's a little cumbersome, but it gets the correct code for HuskerBoard.
  12. We've really gotten to a bad place with this thread. Sorry guys, but it's time to move on from this conversation.
  13. Who thinks Osborne was a saint? Isn't this a bit of a straw man? I don't remember anyone thinking Osborne was innocent of wrongdoing back then. Even today with the passage of time, those who lived through that period remember it with a tinge of regret because of the stuff that went down. People can know about things like this without bringing them up all the time and still not think Osborne was a saint, or free of wrongdoing.
  14. I thought that was the Christensen story from a few years ago. Peters assualt included 2 seperate incidents at the bar and was a little beyond reaching up her skirt IIRC. Peter was also convicted of an assault where he grabbed yet another woman by the throat at a bar. But the incident I described is the one this woman, Ms. Tysdal, was the victim in. The account is in her news story, in the link I provided. Grim, stupid stuff.
  15. If you think using Pinterest should get your man-card revoked, I don't think you're using it correctly. And the whole point of Valentine's Day for the guy is.... well..... you know. I'm willing to be a little sappy for some happy fun time.
  16. I'm making this for the wife this year: She's sick of roses. She's gotten roses 100 times and she doesn't want them anymore. I ran across this on Pinterest and thought it seemed cool, easy and inexpensive. Those are three of my favorite things.
  17. I know this is a delicate subject, and I don't want to come across as insensitive or that I'm trying to give Peter a pass. It's tough to talk about this because we all naturally want to protect the victim, and I'm right there with everyone on that. Husker from Kansas, the gruesome details about this are that they were in a bar, she was wearing some kind of dress or skirt, Peter was drunk, and with zero provocation or warning he put his hand under her skirt and penetrated her. She resisted, he didn't stop, and then it was over. The whole thing lasted probably 20 seconds, tops. It was at a table in a bar, and if I recall Peter was sitting and the victim was standing next to him.
  18. What Christian Peter did was wrong. There is no excuse for it. I wonder, though, what her motive is for bringing this up, not once, but twice in the last two months, over 16 years after it happened. Peter was convicted and served his sentence in 1996. He has publicly apologized, and he has gone through alchohol treatment. Alcoholism is NOT an excuse for what he did. It was wrong, period. But at some point, a person should be allowed to move away from the wrongs they did in the past. Ms. Tysdal wrote an article about this incident last December, where she publicly called out her attacker. Now she's doing it again on TV. At what point does Peter get to move on with his life?
  19. I hate to be overly critical. Suh deserves flak for the stomp, and some more for the lame explanation. But as articles go, that's a bad one. The Yahoo article about that article was actually better.
  20. That has to be the dumbest article ever written. No numbers, no percentages, not even a list.
  21. Yep, I use that bathroom, too. It's a mess. And the entryway is tiny.
  22. YES. Very frustrating. We just wait until the crowd dwindles down before we even try to get out of there. Not only is everything you mentioned a problem, but it's also a problem that there is only one current escape from North outside the stadium - out to the sidewalk on the NW corner of the stadium. They very clearly did not think through the foot traffic problem. Something could have been done to make this less of a problem.
  23. Agreed. See? Peace in our time! Huzzah!
