  1. It's the Model T of modern gaming. Without Nolan Bushnell, there isn't a GPA V, no HALO, no CoD. Nolan Bushnell is the Dr. Oppenheimer of video games.
  2. Did anyone else think this was going to be a thread about Jon Damkroger?
  3. I see Husker players pretty much every day walking around campus. I see Bo at the coffee shop a lot, but not much lately (it's like he's busy or something), and I see guys like TO all the time - in fact, just saw TO today. I've met most every Husker volleyball player from the past 20 years. Met most of the women's basketball players, and a bunch of old-school football players. Non-Huskers I've met... Jose Canseco (he's an ass), Bill Murray, Anthony Bourdain (verrrrry briefly) and Nolan Bushnell, the guy who invented Pong for Atari.
  4. now that you're on twitter, you're the smartest guy around? I wouldn't say the smartest. Super-good at copypasta? Yes, that's me.
  5. Here's the list of semifinalists: Zach Brown, North Carolina Vontaze Burfict, Arizona State Audie Cole, North Carolina State Lavonte David, Nebraska Dont’a Hightower, Alabama Luke Kuechly, Boston College Travis Lewis, Oklahoma Keenan Robinson, Texas Sean Spence, Miami (Fla.) Manti Te’o, Notre Dame Courtney Upshaw, Alabama Jarvis Jones, Georgia EDIT - David has been named a Butkus Award Finalist today, 11/22/11. Here's the updated list of six Finalists: Lavonte David, University of Nebraska Dont'a Hightower, University of Alabama Jarvis Jones, University of Georgia Luke Kuechly, Boston College Manti Te'o, Notre Dame University Courtney Upshaw, University of Alabama LINK
  6. Why we win this game: Bo Pelini is 5-1 in games that start before Noon. Why we lose this game: Sparty has won 16 straight games starting at 11am.
  7. That makes a lot of geographical sense. And by "a lot" I mean "none at all."
  8. Bo and Beck have been telling him to avoid contact because Carnes is not ready to take over. We really have no legitimate backup, and they're still trying to get to the B1G Championship game. Without Taylor you can pretty much toss that dream out the window.
  9. That's a good point. But answer this - do you think Taylor 2011 is as fast as Taylor 2010? I don't. I think he's clearly lost a step, and I wonder about that ankle. How many folks last year posted here that they'd had the same kind of "high ankle sprain" that Martinez had and it still bothered them years later? I vaguely remember several posts like that. For evidence (and this could all be total BS), look at Taylor's run on the Option where Legate stayed with him all the way down the field - I think that was in the Fresno game? Look at Bell's reverse in the Minnesota game, and how easily Bell outstrips Martinez. Look at how many times he's been run down by defenders, including linebackers. With that elite 2010 speed he showed NOBODY caught him. Now we're seeing him get caught often. Maybe that's all circumstantial and has more to do with teams focusing on him more than anything else, but while 2011 Taylor is fast, I just don't think he's recovered that high-end burst he used to have.
  10. I'm betting he takes that leap next year. And I'm betting he takes another leap the year after that. But this could all be moot if Carnes gets his game together and adds a little weight. This time next year we could be talking about how with Kenny Bell, Quincy Enunwa, Jamal Turner and Taylor Martinez we have the fastest WR corps in the country.
  11. I saw them at the store across the street from the stadium, the one under the parking lot. But that was over a week ago, and they're probably all gone. They were supposed to have them at Husker Headquarters and Scheel's, too. I wear a 2XL glove and all they had were XL. Tried them on, and felt like I was going to bust them wide open if I closed my fist. But aside from being too small (for me, anyway), they just weren't as impressive IRL.
  12. You have done nothing wrong. It's the rest of these hooligans we can't trust. knapplc, Husker Richard, bshirt, da skers, 3rd and long..... Gonna have to lock them all up in the Shed or something.
  13. You're still ignoring the rest of the post I'm talking about. THIS ONE ^. Reiterating my main point that you seemingly ignored or did not comprehend from my original post. You did however mention a comparison of Rex to Kenny Bell. That is exactly the point I'm trying to get across. No one would say Kenny is just like Rex without the toughness, just as no one should say Taylor is just like Crouch without the shiftiness. Two completely different players and running styles. Somehow this got misconstrued in the following mess. Crouch and Taylor are nothing alike when running the ball was the main point of your conversation in this thread, and because that wasn't responded to we had to have this huge tangent? Allow me to respond to that earth-shattering point - you're right. Crouch and Taylor are nothing alike while running the ball. All better now?
  14. Gonna have to make more room on the poster:
  15. Has anyone purchased those Husker gloves? I checked them out when they showed up at the stores. They look better in pictures than they do in real-life. I wasn't impressed, especially for $45 a pair.
  16. This was your post: This is my response to your post: Yes, there is. Burkhead is a good runner of the football. Kenny Bell is fast. Used properly, both can not only be effective, but make important contributions to the team. And Mike Rozier was miles ahead of Crouch running the football. Rozier was better than Crouch by a greater degree than Crouch was better than Martinez. But somehow, both Crouch and Rozier seemed to have pretty successful careers. It's funny that Crouch is used as a benchmark for Martinez. Crouch was Martinez when Martinez was still in third grade. Crouch was a superlative talent with public relations problems. He had awkward relations with his teammates, he had a weak passing game, but with the ball in his hand he could score from any point in the field. The fans bitched about Crouch every week. He was a ball hog, he was a prima donna, he would NEVER pitch the ball, it was all about Crouch, me, me, me, me, me.... that's all you ever heard. Fast-forward ten years and we're wishing Martinez was more like Crouch. Time really does heal all wounds. My response was completely football-related. You respond as if I'm attacking you personally. I explain that's what you did. You claim all you've done in this thread was talk about football. Here is where the thread got derailed: All you had to do was not go off on a tangent about the person you're talking to, but stick to the subject, and none of this conversation is taking place. But you did, I responded, and now this happened: So, thanks to you, my whiner status has now been elevated and I've been reported to the whiner police. Great. Thanks a lot. And if you think I'm being very serious about any of this, you would be incorrect. It's just a conversation. Nothing serious.
  17. I responded to your points. If you want to act like that's "jumping down your throat" I would humbly submit that your constitution may not be suited to the rigors of a very tame internet message board conversation. If you're going to take part in the conversation, then be prepared to have your statements discussed without complaining about it. I'm not butt hurt, but I've seen enough of your 16,000+ posts to know that arguing with you is like arguing with a brick wall. You refuse to see the other side and you're never wrong. As evidenced by your failure to respond to the rest of my post that you have selectively quoted above. And I've seen enough of your posts to know that you would rather complain about the person you're talking to than make a point. So where does that get us? Do you want to keep bitching about the people in this thread or do you want to talk football? Unbelievable. This is the very definition of butthurtedness. Just freaking get over it.

  19. I just watched the Illinois match last night. It was classic Nebraska volleyball. Big hits, big blocks, tough digs, and a setter that is out-of-her-mind good. Cook (the setter) can throw up any set from about anywhere on the court at just about any time, it seems. She's ridiculous, in a very good way. Werth is a holy terror on the left side. You give her a paper-thin gap and she's going to punch that hit through, and God help your back court if you don't close the block fast enough. Mancuso is turning into the fine all-around player she was billed as coming out of high school. Lots of folks were saying she would be better than Dani, and she may very well be. Dani was a tough competitor, but G-Train seems to have all the tools, the superlative court vision, and she also plays very solid defense behind the block. That kill she had from the back court in the third set where she just ripped it off the face of the blocker – wicked. Nasty. Brutal. But beautiful. We have a LOT of star power on this team. Werth, Cook, Mancuso – they're just the start. Thramer is really rounding into shape. She's improved tremendously on the net, both blocking and hitting. Brooke Delano is as solid as ever, and seems to be building as the year goes on (she had off-season surgery, remember, then spent all summer planking with Zac Lee). Morgan Broekhuis has some moments where she's out of synch, but when she gets going she is a brutal attacker. Her defense is outstanding, she's talented enough to allow Cook (the coach) the ability to pull Cook (the setter) for Simpson to block and let Morgan set. What kind of weapon is that? That's almost unfair from a 6-4 right-side hitter. I am pretty sure we could dig up a thread after the Red/White Match where I was nervous about this team. I came away from that match concerned. They just looked shaky. They looked out of sorts. I thought they should have been in much better form, and I was concerned heading into the Big Ten, which is a tremendously tough conference (not at all like the Big XII). Here we are two months into the season, and things seem to be working out OK. We had one five-set loss to then-#15 Colorado State, at their house, in front of a huge crowd. We were up 2-0 and very clearly started coasting, and it cost us the match. We were middling around through the next few matches, and then came Penn State. Same thing happened that happened against CSU – we went up 2-0, then the opponent came roaring back and forced a fifth game. You could see the surprise, almost shock, on the faces on the bench between Game 4 and Game 5. I was very concerned, and figured we were going to lose to Penn State, again. But a funny thing happened. They found themselves, there on the bench, and the fifth game was a near-rout. That was probably our defining moment from this season. They realized their potential, saw it out there, and went and grabbed it. It's been a tsunami ever since. It seems we keep rolling along, building and building, and we're playing ball at a really high level right now. I doubt we'll go undefeated in Big Ten play. We still have to play at Penn State, at Illinois and at Purdue, and we have Michigan State, Michigan and Minnesota coming to the Coliseum. That's a lot of very tough matches to presume we'll go undefeated. But you have to like our chances in every single match. It's been a fun ride thus far, halfway through the inaugural Big Ten schedule. Can't wait to see the second half.
  20. Husker John, just amend that to SPORTS championship and you're correct. Nothing against the debate team, but that's not exactly what this board focuses on.
  21. Sparty has their own Husker look-alike thread. Love their take on Eric Martin.
  22. Not to mention the fact that they always turn into a Rozier-is-better-than-Crouch argument. I hate it when guys do that!
