  1. In general, ESPN represents everything that is wrong with college football (and most sports, for that matter). I made a conscious decision to largely ignore them when they were blasting the Huskers from every conceivable angle in the mid-90s. I don't watch Sportscenter, I don't watch any of their other programming, I even stopped listening to Mike & Mike a year or so ago. If you don't like what ESPN produces, don't consume their products. Don't consume their news, don't read their blogs, don't buy their dumb magazine, etc. I'm pretty darned well informed about college football and this team in particular, and I almost never use ESPN for just about anything. They're the middle-man. Cut out the middle-man and you'll be surprised how much you still get out of the sports you love.
  2. Forget I said that. I don't talk about things like that. My bad.
  3. You may not like the role Blatchford plays this week, then.
  4. Astute observers will also notice that Stanley Jean-Baptiste isn't on this list. My understanding is that he is starting this week, so I didn't put him on here.
  5. That's disappointing to hear that. I know quite a few people in there too. It is what it is. To me it's no more appropriate nor disappointing than Chatelain's article.
  6. Pretty sure Santos is redshirting. If they let him play it had better be due to injury this late in the season.
  7. And I know people who were there telling me there were press applauding - in fact, they admit to doing it themselves.
  8. Probably should have added Stafford to that list. And maybe Joe Carter.
  9. Sam McKewon has taken over my Twitter feed. Luckily he usually says things I find interesting.

Do you use Twitter on your computer or phone or both?

The banter bewtween @kevinkugler and @helloerinmarie floods my twitter wall.

I use my phone for a phone. I'm very old-fashioned that way. I just tweet on my computer. And not very often.

And yes, I am bombarded with Kugler/Sorensen tweets. But a close second is EMart, followed by Sorensen/Lawrence tweets. I'm pretty sure Blake and Erin are going to have their own sitcom soon.

  10. I figured most everyone would vote Carnes, and he really needs the reps. I almost left him off the poll as the ridiculously obvious choice.
  11. The premise of this thread is that we've blown Minnesota out early, and we're putting in backups for experience. Based on this, who would you like to see get some in-game action? For this poll I looked through the participation reports and picked out a few guys I thought were under-utilized so far. Of course I've missed some, so help me out if I left someone off the list.
  12. The Fort Collins match was played about a month ago. If you really want to see the Huskers, your best bet would be to check our Classifieds Forum, where tickets are sold from time to time, or if you're feeling brave, you could just come down to Lincoln for a match and buy tickets from someone selling in front of the Coliseum. There are almost always people selling extra tickets out front, usually for face value. I know it's kind of risky to fly/drive all the way to Lincoln for a match without tickets, but your odds of getting some out front are pretty good. I can tell you that if you like excitement and loud venues, you will definitely love the Coliseum on match night. It's one of the top - if not THE top - places to watch a volleyball match in the country. It is definitely worth the trip.
  13. What does the end of the world look like? Does it just wink out, like someone turning off a light switch? Are we going to see legions of angels descending from "on high?" Are they in space right now, traveling here? If we were in space, orbiting the earth, what would we see? Would we just see the lights going off, would everything catch fire, would it just spontaneously crumble to ruin? Do the stars go away, too, or just this planet? Will we see evidence of all the stars shutting off? Will we see our sun just stop, or explode, or collapse into a teeny little black hole? Could we just realize, collectively, that we all shouldn't really be here anyway, and that knowledge forces our unreality to catch up to us? Maybe it'll happen like this, when Oliver realized flightless waterfowl shouldn't exist:
  14. My god. First (and this is a legitimate question) who in the media called out Dirk for yellow journalism? And no reporters were the ones clapping at Bo chewing him out. No media member would be caught dead showing that kind of emotion toward a subject they cover. And "Dork"? Really? That's not childish. Jesus H. Christ. This really rubs me the wrong way. Just Effing let it go. There were two very distinct sides in that room amongst the journalists - those who felt Dirk was in the right, and those who felt he was in the wrong. Husker Mike called Dirk out for yellow journalism, and members of the press - Sipple specifically - out-and-out said that Dirk was wrong. For God's sake, Moose, Sipple wrote a column about it. Get off your high horse with this "no media member would be caught dead showing that kind of emotion toward a subject they cover." The guy you're defending - Dirk - showed exactly that kind of emotion in the hatchet piece he wrote. And you'll have the moral high ground to label me "childish" for calling Dirk a dork when you do the same for those guys calling Martinez "T-Tragic," amongst other names. Until then you're just being a hypocrite. It is unfathomable to me that you would defend a grown man, a professional, who should be old enough and strong enough to take some well-earned criticism, yet you have no problems piling on a college student. When's the last time you saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High without Phoebe Cates, anyway? This rehash was totally unnecessary. I cannot fathom why you felt the need to bring this back up. I had thought better of you.
  15. Not really. Been saying for a while now that Kansas is a value add for basketball, and would be a good companion piece to go with Notre Dame when (not if) the Big East collapses or ND gets tired of traveling to Houston and DFW for Olympic sports. Plus, Kansas would draw KC, and they have a national presence with their basketball program, not unlike ND or DoNU have with their football programs. And selfishly, it *would* be nice for DoNU to have their migration game back in Lawrence. Plus, Kansas' chancellor has publicly come out and said they're not tethered to K-State--they can do as they please. Why make that move unless you're willing to take an invite to a conference that doesn't want your (suddenly-competent in football) brother? And we know that Delaney is willing to sit at 12 until ND becomes available--he's said as much recently, though he hasn't called out ND specifically. Rutgers and Syracuse don't draw NYC--Notre Dame does. Hell, ND has their coach's show and university showcase on SNY--Rutgers and Syracuse don't even get that luxury on SNY, or any other NYC channel. The only other program I could see even possibly getting an invite with an available ND would be Maryland, and only for their media market presence in D.C. and Baltimore. But I would think a nationally-watched basketball power like Kansas would do more for expansion of the BTN, especially during basketball season, than a Maryland would. Basketball isn't even a blip on the conference expansion radar, that's the problem. If it was schools like Duke and North Carolina would be getting some major courting from the "winning" conferences. Heck, the UConn diss from the ACC should dispel any notion that basketball plays any role whatsoever in expansion.
  16. Over/Under: Husker rushing yards - 250 OVER Over/Under: Combined INTs thrown by both teams - 3.5
  17. Someone PM me when the Crying Game moment comes along.
  18. And the vast majority of every major and minor sport throughout the world, and throughout history. But aside from that, it's the system with the least flaws. There are no perfect systems. Playoffs just happen to be the least broken of the choices.
  19. I've played volleyball against some Huskers. Rachel Errthum, Steph Thater, Kelly Aspergren, etc. Lots of girls in the 1990s played out at that joint on West Van Dorn, or played in regional co-ed tournaments.
  20. For the record, I did notice this, but that error is made so often I rarely ever correct it. It's the its/it's version of they're/their/there. Here's your Grammar Cop badge, Hammerhead.
  21. Saw that, too. I was wondering if Rosey was up against a tight schedule on that submission or something.
  22. I voted traditional only, because I didn't like the alternatives. I don't want choice #2 at all. The Oregon approach is too much, and I like our uniforms the way they are too much to change over and over and over. But once per year, #3, is too much, too. Once every few years, or for a big game, I wouldn't mind seeing something different. I'm not so hide-bound that I don't EVER want to see something different. Just not all that often. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  23. Gray is going to have to carry a heavy load. The Gophers are down to two healthy tailbacks. Gray has completed 48% of his passes this year, with four TDs and five INTs. We gotta get after this guy. Put our speed package in at LB and blitz the crap out of him. Run blitz every down the first quarter, and make him try to air it out.
