  1. Anyone know why Marrow is not listed on the roster?
  2. I hate that look towards the sideline crap because it has only been run against us and we have yet to run it. I find it frustrating to watch and it appears that sometimes our defensive linemen aren’t set when the offensive team finally does snap the ball. Maybe it is also because I hate almost all the teams that use it. So you're like me - it's new and therefore not to be trusted? I admit to being a conservative old fart when it comes to things like this. I'll likely get used to it, but I do appreciate the argument that I'd like my QB to be able to make those reads on the field rather than have to rely on the coach in the booth. But I'll get over it if it's successful.
  3. This is absolutely true. The guy is HUGE for Nebraska. We are damned lucky to have had him, and that Pelini could push the right buttons to open up his potential.
  4. Just FYI. Looks to be more overall appearances than before thanks to the BTN, but we're not getting as much time on ESPN? I'm fine with that. Screw ESPN. The less I watch them the better. These seven matches, combined with the matches I assume PBS will air, will make for some great volleyball watching this year.
  5. That's a good point. I had the same qualms about Pelini that I have about Beck. Pelini turned out well, but that doesn't mean Beck will. Maybe I'm just a worrier like irie.
  6. I know nothing about her. Can't dig up anything on the webz, either.
  7. In anticipation of the torrent of replies to this post of, "I hate that," I'd like to ask, why do people dislike this? Please explain.
  8. That would be 104.1 The Blaze. Best station in Lincoln. did they broadcast in the '70s and '80s ? Nobody told me THAT detail.
  9. That would be 104.1 The Blaze. Best station in Lincoln.
  10. GKF - one question/concern I have about what you're saying is specifically #3. What does this concept do for the QB, especially a guy like Taylor who is not Joe Montana? Has Taylor shown (in practice) the ability to make multiple reads and checkdowns? This was not his strong suit last year, and relying on a QB for whom passing is not his primary talent to make reads like this seems like a bad idea. If the route isn't called in the huddle, but determined based on a read the WR makes, how does the QB know where he's going to be? And what's to prevent a cluster**** in the middle of the field when two or three receivers make the same read? Maybe this is a problem of me not being able to visualize what they're doing, but it seems like less planning and more sandlot stuff. Sure it can work, but I'm not visualizing it.
  11. So.... National Championship, then? This all sounds great. If it's all true, we should be improved. I'm concerned (broken record here, I know) that this is the same kind of stuff you hear from every team, every summer. I hope it's all true. I remain cautious in my optimism, though.
  12. I remember that 1993 Orange Bowl against FSU vividly. I remember the outrage over the last few minutes, and the blown fumble on FSU's short-yardage touchdown. That whole game was so terribly frustrating because we were as good, if not outright better than they were. The field goal sailing left felt like a dagger. It hurt. That was the seventh bowl loss in a row for Osborne, too. As good as that team was and as positive as people were about our prospects, January, 1994 was a dark time in Husker history. It felt like we would never win. Then the 1994 season happened, and throughout it felt like something was different. I hadn't heard "this is our year" so often since the early 80s. Everyone seemed to think that we were going to win the title - finally! - with Tommie at QB. Then we got to the Orange Bowl, again. Against Miami, again. And that first quarter of the 1995 Orange Bowl was more gut-wrenching than any quarter of football I'd watched since the fourth quarter of the 1984 Orange Bowl. We had these guys. We were better than these guys. And we were playing like absolute dog-ass, and getting whipped, 10-0. I've recorded the replay of that game from BTN's coverage over the Fourth of July weekend, and all I've watched of it so far has been the first quarter. Every memory, every feeling of despair, of, "How can this be happening!?!?!" came flooding back. It felt like I was back there in my living room in 1994, agonizing, all over again. I still remember the euphoria of the fourth quarter of that game, though. I wonder if it'll feel like that again when I watch the rerun, whenever I have time?
  13. The NCAA would be negligent if they didn't look into this. You've got college head coaches giving this guy money and also recruiting players from his AAU team. That's at least smoke, if not fire, and should be looked at.
  14. I'm pretty sure Frankie dropped the ball on that one. Billy C came in towards the end and tried to get Woodhead but he stuck to his commitment that he had already made. That's the story I remember, too. I also don't blame Woodhead for not coming to Nebraska since Callahan was, like Bo, unproven as a head coach at this level. I also believe Callahan offered to let Woodhead walk-on, and didn't offer him a schollie. Not positive about that, though.
  15. This was a response to teacher’s post, which they responded and explained their statement. I’m sure I dreamed up people having discussions about Billy C’s lack of in-state recruiting and how Bo is reviving the in-state players. I’ll have my facts checker look into it and get back to you. "People" having those discussions aren't part of this thread. Go respond to those people in those threads. Don't drum up an argument in this thread that isn't being made in this discussion to grind some axe you're still worried about four years after your coach got canned.
  16. I think it's only prudent to temper expectations about Beck and the offensive staff as a whole. No matter how much you trust Bo's decisions, Beck is an unproven commodity. It could go either way. I'll reserve judgment until after the season. Even then it may be too early to tell, this being Beck's first year as the lone OC at any school.
  17. That would make sense only if Griffin is getting that medical, which he won't know until the end of this season. It's not even clear that he would apply for it at this point. But I see Cody's reason for hesitation - why go there when Griffin is the established star, sit out your transfer/redshirt year, then have to sit on the bench as a backup for another year? Tough decision.
  18. That same article says that Doc "invested" $38,000 with this guy, J. David Salinas. The problem is, if these investments weren't real, Doc is going to have to show that he had no knowledge it was a Ponzi scheme and that he was being defrauded. Regardless, investing money with a guy who also controlled AAU players you were recruiting shows incredibly poor judgment. Even if Doc got scammed and there was no "investment" for players deal, it still looks terrible for Doc and the University.
  19. A disturbing report is emerging about Doc's involvement with a Houston-area businessman who took large sums of money from several NCAA coaches as "investments," but there never were any investments, and there were never any results from those investments. The implications are that this man was steering kids to coaches who "invested" with him, and Doc's name - and several of our recruiting targets - are all over the story:
  20. Who is saying this? This is a complete straw man.
  21. Knapp, really? He was offered at Nebraska. First he said he wanted to play B10 ball and cally never offered but Bo did. "Iowa paid attention. The Hawkeyes offered Shaun first after a summer camp, and later offered Shane, who committed, too. Bo Pelini — attempting to rebuild a recruiting class riddled with defections from Callahan's downfall — offered the twins after he took over." Offered when? During Callahan's final year? I wouldn't have wished that on a dog, so I can see why he left. And if he didn't respond to Pelini, you can't blame the guy. Pelini was an unknown as a Head Coach, and going to a known commodity like KF would have been the safe move. Again, can't blame the guy. But that doesn't mean he didn't want to play at Nebraska - just that the coaching situation here was FUBAR. I'm sure had Pelini been here the year before, things would have been different.
  22. Why should autographs just be for kids? I don't have any use for autographs, so don't think I'm one of those guys.... I'm just not understanding why adults shouldn't get them. Isn't that like saying adults shouldn't try to catch foul balls, we should let the kids have them? I go after fouls when I'm at a game. I figure those kids have their whole lives to catch a foul ball, while me - I'm half dead already! I don't have the time to wait! True story - I got a foul ball at a SaltDogs game their first year in Lincoln. Bounced in some empty seats and rolled down to me. All I had to do was pick it up. I'd been looking for a foul ball for 25 years, from a kid to an adult, and that was my first. But there's this little guy, like four years old or something, sitting two seats away from me giving me these puppy-dog eyes all game long. ALL GAME LONG. About the sixth inning or so he's turning into a pumpkin so his mom packs him up to go home, and he leaves with this one last, heartbreaking look. So.... like a schmoe, after waiting all those years, I chased the kid and mom halfway up the steps and gave him the ball. I got a standing ovation from our section as I went back down. My wife was super proud of me and I got a reward when we got home BUT. I'm 40 and I still have no foul ball from any game, ever, anywhere. So screw those kids. I'm getting my foul ball when the time comes. No more puppy-dog eyes. I can just imagine it's the same for guys who collect autographs.
  23. Wow. I would be unsettled if I were a Hawkeye fan listening to his comments about Callahan. Sounds to me like Prater is basically saying he wanted to come here but Callahan didn't give him the time of day, so he went to Iowa. Sounds like Nebraska would have been his first choice. Callahan.
  24. I believe Coqui is referring to the impending "10" story about the SEC West, as mentioned by their editor or writer on sports radio these few days past.
  25. I think the truth is somewhere in between what the media is saying and the university. I have heard enough from people in Youngstown to know that it isn't as cut and dry as some (i.e. schuhbdoo) like to make it out to be. I also think that Clarett had problems that are far beyond what happened at OSU. To lay the blame solely on OSU and Tressel for that one is hard to swallow. In the end, people will hate OSU for the stuff that has happened in the past and the many games won on the field. It shouldn't really matter to OSU fans. True, but you get tired of hearing it since 2003 (people saying we didn't really win that game) It's been 17 years and I'm still hearing about Lawrence Phillips over on BP. I don't think this sort of thing ever ends.
