  1. It's not a big deal, you're right. It is an example of the disconnect, or lack of coordination, or however you want to describe it, that we seem to be having at UNL lately. It's not a Bo issue, it's a University of Nebraska issue occurring between the Football staff, the AD's office and the Administration. I know UNL has budget issues and they don't have a ton of money to hire people, but for everyone involved it would be good to have one guy or one small group in charge of the flow of information from Stadium Drive, someone who has the authority to coordinate the release of information from Administration levels on down. I feel bad for Bo, because it seems too often that information is being let out beyond his control, due to university policy or sheer bone-headedness of the Administration, and this is the kind of crap he doesn't need to deal with. He's a Coach, we should let him focus on that aspect of the game. Every jot and tittle of information doesn't need to come from Bo.
  2. 1. Best new person Who is the best new user we've had recently? We've had a LOT of new members this year who have really contributed a great deal to the board. Folks I've been very impressed with are... PaulCrewe Blaze1up Hercules GMoose da skers girlknowsfootball I know there are others I'm forgetting, mostly because they've joined in the flow of things so seamlessly that they seem like long-time members, so my apologies. If I didn't list you, likely it's because I just forget you're "new." Having a coin-flipping tournament here (seriously) to determine a nominee..... girlknowsfootball gets my nomination after many flips of the coin. Funny, because although she's definitely worthy of a nomination, she's the one of that group I've had the least interaction with. 2. Best thread Which thread in the last year or so did you like the most? The epically huge QB discussion thread from last August. QB Race. One of the most hotly debated, passionate topics I remember from this board since the end of the Callahan Era. 3. Best "Visiting Team" fan? Which regular poster who owes allegiance to another team do you feel is most valuable to the board? Killer Cacti, with fro a close second. The only reason fro isn't tied with KC is it seems like he hasn't been around as much lately. Don't leave us, fro! 4. MVP Award Which person on these forums do you like the most? Tough one! I "like" pretty much everyone on the board (which is why I hang out here so much). GMoose and a couple of the Admins are the only guys I've actually met in real life, so frankly I'm not even sure most of you truly exist (I have suspicions that some of you are actually hallucinations - I'd name names, but I think you know who you are ). After some more thought, I'm not answering this one. No way I could narrow it down to just one guy. 5. Favorite avatar Who has or had the best avatar? (this year) I've had to adblock several avatars because of work and having a child at home who likes to look at HB over my shoulder, so help me out here - who's the guy with the blond in the shower? That's my nomination. Will edit when someone helps with the name. EDIT - Irieboy8. Thanks, KC. 6. Favorite sig Who has or had the best signature? (this year) GMoose's sig is simple but awesome. LINK 7. Best ava/sig maker Who makes the best avatars and/or signatures? I'm not terribly well-versed in the makers of graphics here, but I'll nominate Landlord. I see a lot of folks sporting Landlord sigs, so he gets my nomination. 8. Best graphic/media designer (not limited to signature or avatars)? Who makes the best all around graphics (not limited to avatars or signatures)? This could include wallpapers, phone backgrounds, videos, etc. epocSon, without question. 9. Most Husker knowledge? Who do you think knows the most about Nebraska tradition, trivia, and past? Does anyone know more past trivia than skersfan? Nexus knows a ton. EZ-E knows a lot, including insider tidbits. I'm going to nominate da skers, though. The guy knows stuff. He's connected. He knows the past and details most people don't know about the present. And best of all, even though he knows more than the average joe, there's no smugness about it. There's none of that irksome "I know more than you" vibe in his posts. He just tells what he knows, plus he has the discernment to know what NOT to say. That's a very impressive, invaluable asset. 10. Most Life knowledge? Who do you think exhibits the most insight into life experiences, being a human being, practical advice on various situations and etc.? T_O_Bull has a lot of life experience and we could all learn a lot by listening to him. 14. Biggest fan Who is the biggest Cornhusker fan you know? Craigsker! The sheer stick-to-it-iveness he showed over several months in the 10/16/10 countdown thread was impressive. 15. Most underrated Who is the most underrated in terms of what they do for the board? HSKRNOKC was a long-time Moderator here and, along with AR Husker Fan, was the "face" of HuskerBoard for me when I first joined up. He's retired from modding now, but he's never gotten the public atta-boy that I always felt he deserved. The man did a sh#t-ton of work around here, and HuskerBoard wouldn't be the great place it is today without the work he did back in the day. 16. Class Clown Who is the most humorous guy on Huskerboard? The one that can make a joke about anything? Roxy15. Not a lot of joking around going on here - we tend to take our Huskers quite seriously - but Roxy has been contributing a lot of jokes lately. 17. Best mod/admin Who is the best moderator or admin? This would have to be AR Husker Fan or zoogies. AR does a LOT of behind-the-scenes stuff that you guys don't know about; he is the grease on the gears of HuskerBoard. zoogies and I disagree a lot on football stuff, but I respect his opinions and he's a lot of fun to discuss stuff with, and his opinions are always a worthy read. Also as a Mod zoogies has done quite a few things in the background that have helped smooth this version of HB out, and as problems crop up he's always in the thick of things getting them fixed, either hands-on or with solid ideas. Literally flipping a coin here and.... heads. zoogies gets my nomination. But AR is very worthy as well. 19. Most likely to take over the world Which member is most likely to rule the planet? Carlfense. He's got the moves, he's got the talent, and he's one smart cookie. I have yet to see a conversation he's been involved in, whether it's in Husker Football, the Lounge, Politics & Religion, or wherever, that he cannot speak intelligently about. In fact, he's often the 'smartest guy in the room.' I take part in some of those conversations and I often feel like I'm the Pinky to his Brain. What is Carlfense going to do tonight? The same thing he does every night - try to take over the world! 20. Honorable Mention Award Who do you think will garner some votes in some categories but still not win? Or who do you think is just generally an awesome contributor but doesn't fall into any of these categories? bshirt. Could list a lot of people here, the unsung heroes who contribute a lot but don't get a lot of back-pats, but bshirt is a guy I converse with a lot, who has solid points/arguments in discussions, and doesn't get a lot of publicity (that I notice). I was surprised that several people didn't get voted into positions on Starting Lineup, and bshirt was one of the ones atop that list.
  3. Saunders, the fact that those other folks are getting involved doesn't mean they think the case has merit or a real chance at winning. It mostly means that they recognize that it's not impossible for this case to win, and they're hedging their bets just in case. These organizations already all have teams of lawyers on retainer. They have to use these guys somehow.
  4. I figured it could get into things like this, but didn't know if it would. Like Keller or not, he's raised (or, allowed himself to be the face of) a tremendously relevant question in today's world. If I had to predict how this will end up, I would presume it'll end well for the video game companies, broadcasters, movie producers and the like. This country was built on industry, and we will protect the industries which pay tax dollars. My guess is some concessions will be given to players, performers and personalities, but in the end the larger slice of the pie will remain in the hands of those who make the show, not the show people. Show persons. Whatever.
  5. I see where you're going with this, and that's a good point. But I can't help but think that we will need every second of practice we can get just to master whatever scheme we're going to run. If that means showing our "new" stuff in the Spring Game, then I say we do it, and don't worry about hiding anything.
  6. Here's the problem. People hitch their wagon to one QB or another, largely for arbitrary reasons (especially in the cases of players who have yet to play in live games), and when they don't pan out we retaliate by throwing them under the bus. Or when they do pan out, the other guy(s) get thrown under the bus. We pick sides, this QB over that QB, when they're all on the same team. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I don't care who starts. I want the best player. Last year that was Marty. If it's Marty this year, more power to him. If it's Cody, if it's Turner or Carnes or Bubba, more power to them. I'll drive the Kody Spano bandwagon if the guy moves our offense, and I won't hate on Marty or Cody or anyone who sits behind the starter. Everyone hitching their wagon to any specific player at this point in the year, especially those who haven't played, are spinning tires in the mud.
  7. I used the word obviate because God did not have to make me sinful. God did not have to put me (or you, or Adam, or anyone) in this Creation. God did not have to make Creation, make it perfect, then put the ONE THING in it that could ruin it for us all, the Tree. I liken this to creating the perfect, most wonderful, most awesome, safest and best room for my child to sleep in, but right in the middle of it I put a shiny mobile full of music and sparkles. I tell her, "You have all the toys in the world, so don't touch that mobile. It's forbidden." What do you think she's going to do? OF COURSE she's going to mess with the shiny, sparkly, eye-catching mobile. No child wouldn't. Adam and Eve couldn't NOT touch the Tree, and God knew this. The Tree should never have been there in the first place. It was the one forbidden thing - so why even include it? What possible need could there have been for the presence of a thing which would forever separate man from God in that garden? God chose to put that Tree there. God, therefore, chose to make me sinful. There should never have been penalty meted out for sin, because there never should have been sin in the first place. Adam should never have been placed in Creation. Creation should never have been made. We should simply have been put in Heaven from the start - something wholly within God's power - and all this rigmarole of sin and salvation and damnation would never exist. God's Omnipotence is dreadfully pertinent here. You admit that God has unlimited, unstoppable power. You admit that God (as described) loves me unconditionally. Well, I love my daughter unconditionally. In my love for her, I would never, EVER place something within her grasp, to which she would be drawn as a moth to a flame, which would forever put a chasm between us. But I'm just a fallible Human. God has no bounds upon his abilities. It is entirely within his ability not to put that Tree there. It is entirely within his ability to create Adam in heaven where there is no sin. The prima facie argument for God, Creation, sin and my involvement in all of it does not make sense in the context of a loving God. But we know that God is love - we're told that throughout the Bible. Therefore we have a quandary - is God not love? Is the Creation story wrong? By extrapolation, which part(s) of the Bible aren't wrong? Where is the answer to that disconnect? I can no longer ignore those glaring questions.
  8. We definitely have talent at WR - our problems are maximizing that talent and finding a QB to get them the ball. Taylor has a LOT of work to do before he's able to make any WR a true threat. I have no idea what Cody will do - he'll be a Junior, and I'm hoping for major improvement and pushing from him. Carnes is (allegedly) the full package, but he's never played a snap of 1A ball. In the end it may not matter if we have Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss at wideout - our QBs need to step up, too.
  9. I thought so, but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe it was in Rumorville for some reason. Can't search mothballed forums.
  10. Tell me where I'm wrong: God is omnipotent. God loves me unconditionally. God placed me in this creation. It is within God's power to have placed me directly in Heaven. I was born guilty of another man's sin. It is within God's power to obviate all of my sin right now. Which of those statements is wrong?
  11. Pre-Spring Game, 2010, there weren't ten people in this state who thought Martinez was in the mix to start. Right now we have a poll where 21% of respondents think Carnes is our best quarterback. If we'd have run this poll last year Martinez wouldn't have gotten 2% of the vote (and rightly so). Right - so why are people saying it's so impossible to think that Carnes could be starting next year? Seems to be a lot more momentum in his favor this year than there was in Martinez's last. I don't know the answer to that. You'd have to ask someone who thinks it's "impossible" for Carnes to start, and I think those kinds of people are very rare on this board. I'm of the opinion that he'll have a legit shot to win the position and if he can, he'll start - but that Martinez is most likely to start. Of course, I also felt there was no way a healthy Zac Lee did NOT start last year, so what do I know?
  12. I don't know if it's even possible, considering the relationship between scholarship athletes and schools. I also don't know if student-athletes couldn't go on strike right now. I'd like to hear from a current student-athlete, though. I presume they'd far rather play and get a few $$$ in their pocket than go through labor negotiations.
  13. Can you think of a scenario where the players would stop football? Even if they unionized, they would still likely lose out on their scholarships, meaning that many of them (most?) would have to leave school. We've had MLB, NBA, and it looks like an NFL strike. It's not out of the question to assume it could happen in college athletics. I don't see it happening, but it definitely is a possibility. The glaring difference being those athletes are paid, at minimum, hundreds of thousands of dollars per year and have the ability to absorb the loss of income. These students do not have that luxury. Although, I suppose, if these suits in some way lead to payment for NCAA players, we could see NFL-style labor disputes and the like. That would suck.

  16. If you look at that video, Cody runs from our 35 to their 25 in about five seconds. That's 40 yards in five seconds. Note: 1) He did not start his run at the 35, he started a few yards back. He was at top speed at the 35. 2) he did not run in a straight line, but rather curved to avoid defenders. Regardless, this is not "speed" in the sense that we think of speed when we talk about a fast player. It shows reasonably average football speed, nothing elite. That play does not tell me Cody is slow. But it doesn't tell me he's fast, either.
  17. It may not lead to the end, but it could heavily affect the way we view games. So could ESPN's deal with the SEC and/or Texas. So could conference expansion. So could a lot of things. Bottom line is, there are billions of dollars available for putting live football on my TV. Televised football is not going to stop because one group wants a slice. Likely video games aren't going to stop, either. In fact, an agreement could be reached whereby player likenesses are nearly spot-on in the games, meaning a win/win for everyone. This doesn't have to be Armageddon. It could work out all right.
  18. I don't need to read another book. I've read 100 books on this stuff. I'm one of the few people you'll run across on the Internet who really, truly has read the Bible cover-to-cover (no BS) (although I skipped a bit of Leviticus). I know what it says, I know the theology behind it, and the bottom line is, it makes no sense. An omnipotent God has no reason to filter his children through this reality.
  19. I could show you ten videos of such plays by Martinez, yet you continue to discount him. Oddly, in favor of Green, who has one (1) highlight of this nature.
  20. The root of both cases is that the players are being exploited by Entity X, who is profiting from their activity/likeness unfairly. I don't see where they're wrong. If that leads to the end of video games... oh well. It will not lead to the end of intercollegiate athletics, and that's what I'm a fan of. Nor will it lead to the end of televised athletics, which I watch when I can't attend games. Again... oh well.
  21. Stripped to its essential core, the point of Piper's sermon is that God shows love by allowing us to share in his glory. But that's not correct, because we don't inherently share in that glory. We have to jump through hoops. We were placed in this creation, branded guilty from birth through association with Adam & Eve, and we have to spend the rest of our lives trying not to muck up our chance at heaven, where we then get to abide in the glory. God's glory comes with many strings. If I do not believe in him, and in Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross on my behalf, I am precluded from God's heaven. God states that he loves me: John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Romans 5:8-11 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Ephesians 2:4-7 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. But does he? Does he really love me? I don't think so. If he did, he would not have branded me guilty at birth. He would not have placed me in this creation at all, where all I can do is mess up my chances of everlasting heaven, and where the pitfall of hell is far more likely: Matthew 7:13-14 - Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it. So, to review: God loves me so very, very much. Despite this, he condemns me to everlasting damnation by placing me in this creation. I have a chance at salvation (from a crime of which I am not the perpetrator), but the chances of that salvation are quite slim. In fact, even though God loves everyone everywhere equally, most of us won't go to heaven. Why? Because we didn't jump through the hoops. Do this, think this, believe this, and you're in. Don't do those things and you're out. Why? What is the point in this? It's ridiculous to think that a God who loves me like his own dear son would even dream of treating me this way. Becoming a father very much opened my eyes to the logical fallacy of this tenet of Christianity. There is NO WAY I would treat my child like this. Not remotely. Yet my capacity for love is infinitely lesser than that of God. So how can a God who loves me like this display his love for me by condemning me? And make no mistake - it's God who condemns us. God is omnipotent. There is nothing God cannot do. God could, if he wanted, have simply created Man in heaven with him (where he says he wants us eventually), and entirely cut out the sinful creation in which he places us. There is NO NEED to put me here, to brand me sinful, and "give me chances" to gain salvation. An omnipotent God can put me in heaven from the start - but he didn't, meaning he wanted me here, sinful, needing salvation. Sorry, but that's not how a loving father treats their child.
  22. Practice field speed is worthless in real-game situations. Cody has yet to show anything resembling elite speed in a game situation. In fact, he's shown quite the opposite. It doesn't matter if a guy is a practice warrior. If he can't translate it to the field, those skills are worthless.
