  1. It's all well and good to talk about academics. Nebraska walks the walk:
  2. The Zone may be the base of our offense but it won't be the only part. Just like Bo changes up his defense as needed, he'll change up his offense when the time is right.
  3. I'd be interested in hearing the story of when Coach Brown cornered you and thrust his beliefs on you. Do tell. Never claimed that he did. Have you ever heard the guy talk? I'm sure you have. He usually address the drug-free pledge kids at the Spring Game and he brings religion into everything. Does everyone need God to stay drug-free? Absolutely not. Ron would have you believe otherwise. Like mmmtodd said, the ACLU told him to back off when he is in schools. He obviously crossed the line. I'm not saying it's wrong or right, just saying it bothers me. Just because it's what he believes doesn't make it right/fact. I figure I'll be in the minority here since NE is God's country, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Sorry, I just get a chuckle out of the raised hackles over someone exercising their constitutionally protected rights. Coach Brown's speeches aren't some "gotcha" time where he appears under false pretenses. He's very up front about his subject matter, and he always has been. If you're listening to him speak and you find his material objectionable, that's entirely on you. Last September I saw Anthony Bourdain speak in Omaha. Anthony is a TV chef and travel show personality, but during his show he 1) used potty-mouth words and 2) spoke extensively about drug use. Anyone in attendance there knew (or should have known) that Anthony does this in every speech he gives. Every single one. Would you really have sympathy for me if I'd have been offended by his swearing and drug references? I know I wouldn't.

  5. Beck will have input but the decision will be Bo's. The whole reason Beck's here and in line for this position we're all presuming he's getting is that Bo knows and respects him. Bo isn't hunkered in a bunker reading tea leaves to make this decision. He's holding meetings, going over his rolodex of names, running them by the staff. They'll provide input, then Bo will make the decision.
  6. Are those the eight most-recruited states? Why those eight?
  7. Sure we could, but that wouldn't keep them out, and really, we have no interest in keeping them out. Even if we could shut our doors to everyone from the Weird Harold, what does that do for us?
  8. The fate of our offensive coaching departures was sealed before the Holiday Bowl. 33-0 wouldn't have earned them another year.
  9. You'd kill the board trying to keep them out. The more hoops you make people jump through, the less they'll hang around. The juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze. What do we care if they troll HuskerBoard? Let them. I hope they enjoy it.
  10. 4.5 weeks until Spring Practice begins. Seems like forever.

its not so long when you think its been longer than that since the bowl game.

so what do we talk about until then? There is practically NOTHING going on. . .

  11. Watch their linebackers/safeys get sucked inside biting on the misdirection in each play. Any sound defense would have stuffed these runs after 6 yards. The offensive line wasn't bad in these plays, they did their job - but after the first 5 yards it's on the lack of LBs/S play. I don't know, man. Especially on Helu's first run there was some fantastic blocking. Sure their LBs were out of position but the only thing stopping their D Linemen from taking Helu down was the O Line. In particular on that first run, watch Cotton come across the formation and knock his man ass over teakettle. Set the tone for the whole game, right there.
  12. Not enough evidence either way. Way too premature to be excited or depressed about these moves.
  13. I've also been too lazy to do the research, too, but I've had that same thought myself. If they don't lead the team in average penalties per person as a unit, they're darn close.
  14. User Mort appended this in Ubben's comment section:
  15. I'm not sure what that has to do with my silly little snarky response to newearth, but the fact is, you're right. Of course, there are those who intimate that Tom "guided" Bo on his decisions to retain Watson and hire Barney, but I don't know if that gets Bo off the hook. My overall point is - wait and see. I have no idea if the guys we're rumored to hire will pan out. All I'm saying is, it's too early to say they won't.
  16. I wish I could copypasta this whole article. Here's the lead-in. Click the headline for the whole thing: This does a pretty decent job explaining the angst and frustration I see in a lot of posts. Lots of emotions, highs and lows, in the past 12 months. Tumultuous is an understatement.
  17. center at Nebraska in the early 2000's. Team captain. Current intern. rumors going around about him being an co-OL coach with Barney. Like what Coach Osborne did with Milt Tenopir and Dan Young. If he grasps the concept of maintaining a block and/or PANCAKING someone, and can teach that, I say it's a brilliant hire. But then, I'd say that about anyone that could teach these things.
  18. It seemed (to me) that you were more than skeptical. Apparently you and I have the same view, mostly wait and see, but you're underwhelmed while I'm not whelmed at all (neither over nor under). EDIT - regarding the cronyism. It wasn't cronyism that doomed the last staff; on the field they were doomed by a horrific defensive philosophy which was completely ill-suited to the Big XII. If this staff makes the same mistake (an offense ill-suited to the Big 10) then we're screwed. But not because of the cronyism. Near as I can tell, nepotism is the grease that lubes the gears of the coaching world. It's unlikely that it would be different here.
  19. And we have long memories (ie: Penn State 1982). before i was born I have vivid memories of that game, and that play. Watching on our crappy old bunny-eared TV, standing in the living room with my mouth hanging open in shock.
  20. I'm going to roast some smores on the bonfire you just lit. I'll be happy to share.
  21. And we have long memories (ie: Penn State 1982).
  22. I've been trying to get that point across for a while now.
  23. That's a good way of putting it. And that's what we offered Frost, and he turned down. He was basically offered upward mobility while learning on the job, and he declined. Maybe he feels he has that in Oregon, but frankly, I wouldn't bet on it. C'est la vie.
  24. Is this what it has come to? Only people that “know” more then Bo have the ability to complain about what appears to them to be less then stellar hires? If that is the case then you really must know how to run a Division 1 offense. I'm saying you haven't shown any reason why these are poor hires, yet you're doing a lot of whining about them.
  25. This was more cathartic for Mr. Knowlton than a letter actually intended for Bo. That's my take, anyway.
