  1. I know about TO's comments - I read the paper too. I just don't buy that wins and losses are the only reason Callahan was fired, just like I don't buy that Bo still needs to evaluate his QBs because he can't figure out who his starter is. There are things a program will state publicly that are palatable and convey the message that the program wants conveyed. These are not always the sum total of the facts, nor are they always truly factual to the situation.
  2. I suppose I misspoke here. I prefer Chicago style of the two, but the reality is that I like both. I grill a mean New York style pizza, too. So it's not like I just do one or the other. I'm an equal opportunity pizza lover.
  3. The full circle part of this is odd/weird/ironic. I didn't know that Bo was TO's second choice. Who was his first? Kelly? I don't know why TO picked Solich. Frank is a Husker to the core, always will be, but he never seemed like the right guy. It's too bad he ever got put into the position of being the Head Coach, because that was the decision that eventually led to his ouster from the program, and a "Husker Guy" like Solich shouldn't have been put in a position where he had to get fired like that. But the reality is that it wasn't working, for a lot of reasons, and Pederson was most definitely not willing to let it go until Frank figured it all out - if Frank figured it all out. I wonder about that Callahan stuff. I know next to nothing about his regime, or TO's actual factual reasons for letting him go, but it seems like the wins/losses thing was an excuse. I can't imagine Tom came in, saw the condition the program was in, and had any real thoughts of keeping Callahan on past 2007 regardless of wins/losses. It's convenient that Callahan lost the way he did, from a PR standpoint, but I have to figure he would have been gone no matter what. Callahan was just never a Husker Guy, not in any sense of the phrase. Frank was, but wasn't "Head Coach at Nebraska" material. Turner is, but I'm not sure he's "HC@N" material right now. I suppose I'm happy with Bo as HC right now, but all things considered, I'd rather not have gone through the Callahan Era to get here. Two mediocre seasons and two extremely embarrassing seasons just aren't worth this, nor is the end of the bowl streak, or any of the records we gave up.
  4. Some of us know both, and that you're a little off in your assessment of Solich's performance at the helm. I didn't give an assessment. I gave factual statistics. If they are wrong, by all means correct them. The data isn't wrong, but your assessment of what that data means is not entirely correct. Wins/losses weren't all that was taken into account. That's all.
  5. Well, you're gonna like what you like, and there's no changing your mind I guess. I absolutely love that recipe I just posted. In fact, I just finished off the last of the leftovers for lunch. Très fantastique!
  6. I may not be a chef, but I can make a Chicago-style pizza that'll change your mind, I guarantee. I'll post the recipe in the recipe forum. CLICK ME for recipe.
  7. Deep-Dish Pizza Dough 2 packages quick-rise dry yeast 2 cups warm water (90 degrees F) 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more to oil the pans 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 4 teaspoons kosher salt 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, slightly softened I used my bread machine's pizza dough setting. If you do not have a bread machine: Dissolve the yeast and water in the bowl of a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Add the oils and mix for 30 seconds. Add the cornmeal, 3 cups of the flour and salt and beat for 5 minutes. Switch to the dough hook and mix in the remaining 2 1/2 cups of flour and knead, using the dough hook for 2 minutes. Add the butter and knead until incorporated. The dough is a very moist dough so do not add more flour unless absolutely needed. Place the dough in a large bowl lightly oiled with vegetable oil, cover with plastic wrap or clean kitchen towels and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes. Punch down the dough and allow to double in size again. Tomato Sauce 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 (32-ounce) can plum tomatoes coarsely chopped, no juice 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh oregano leaves 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil leaves Salt and freshly ground black pepper Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over high heat. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes and oregano, bring to a boil and cook until the mixture thickens, about 15 minutes. Stir in the basil and season with salt and pepper. Let cool slightly. Filling 3 Sweet Italian Sausages 1 Red Pepper 1 White Onion (small) 1.5 Cups sliced portabella mushrooms 8 oz (one package) sliced pepperoni 3 balls fresh mozzarella, sliced Remove the casings from the sausage, then slice into nuggets. Brown sausage in a non-stick pan, reserving the leftover fat. Remove from heat, and grind sausage with a wire potato masher to make bite-size pieces. Julienne the red pepper and onion, then saute in the sausage fat until the onion clarifies. Add portabella slices, saute for another two minutes, remove from heat. Assembly Preheat oven to 450 degrees, and place a baking stone on the rack. Generously coat a 14-inch (or two 9-inch) deep-dish baking pan with olive oil. By hand, spread the dough so that the circle is about four inches wider than the pan(s) you are using, making sure to keep your thickness even throughout. Place the dough over the pan so that the dough hangs over the side. Gently push the dough into the corners of the pan, then bake for three minutes. Remove blind-baked crust from oven and let it cool for about a minute. Remove any excess crust hanging over the side of the pan. Fill the crust by layering cheese, sauce, sausage, vegetables and pepperoni, repeating (like a lasagna) if necessary depending on the depth of your pan(s). Cover the top layer of pepperoni with a ladle-full of sauce, and top with any remaining cheese. Bake until golden brown, approximately 40 minutes (check often).
  8. We'll see how he does. He's been away from the game for a long time, and the UFL doesn't seem like a slow, crappy league.
  9. Following up on this, Clarett has been signed.
  10. If you want a pie then you should have voted for Chicago style. Chicago pizza most resembles a true pie, while New York pizza resembles a crepe.
  11. I still miss him. Absolutely, I do too. He didn't just post articles, he discussed the things he posted about intelligently. He had/has good knowledge of football and he was always willing to share that knowledge.

  13. Not surprisingly, the Browns have asked the NFL to look at this:
  14. Congratulations, Austin. That's what this program is all about. Way to be a Husker.
  15. Nexus' "trick" in finding Husker articles was to set up a simple RSS feed. We have the ability to do it on the site, built in to the software, it's just never been implemented.
  16. I put a hole in Angie Oxley's mom's wall once. Felt like a goof. We fixed it later, I believe.
  17. I think it was Sipple on LITR who said that watching Tray come around the end and break into open space is a tremendous sight to behold. I think the press has been impressed with our offense so far. It just remains to be seen if they know what they're talking about.
  18. Yeah, but we wouldn't get the penalty call. You don't say.
  19. Uh... yeah. Brilliant riposte. If person "B" evinces bigotry in the words they use, they've defined their own heart, now haven't they? People are taking you as serious as your words. If you want to be taken seriously, act like a serious person. If you continue to try to redefine the discussion into something it's not... well, I have bad new for you. The only person "reframing" the point is you. And you're doing an exceedingly poor job of it. You're right, you didn't link this to 9/11. Mea culpa. Out of curiosity, why should anyone have to ask your opinion? Nobody has asked anyone their opinion in this thread, near as I can tell. Everyone who's joined this conversation has been up front with their stance... except you. Why do we need to invite you to share your opinion; why can't you just share it like everyone else?
  20. Some of us know both, and that you're a little off in your assessment of Solich's performance at the helm.
  21. Ummmm.... what? Nobody was hoping that Osborne would retire in favor of Frank. The whole state was in shock when TO announced his retirement in 1997. Nobody wanted him to go, everyone wanted to see the ship keep sailing right along.
