  1. The ONLY thing I think we could try is to leverage a potential move from the Big 12 into a more level playing field, as in, not having to kowtow to the South teams so much, keeping the CCG moving instead of basing it at Jerrydome - things like that. But it would have to be done the right way. We're not the kind of school that holds the conference hostage, or even wants that rep. It would be touchy to do, and it could backfire. The best thing to do is just get better. Everywhere, in all sports. We have the program, the AD, the support system, the fans, the facilities, the coaches and the wherewithal to do it. So let's just fricken DO IT.
  2. I understand that but they are getting there behinds handed to them out of conference. Yes, and none of us are shedding any tears about it, are we? Warms my heart, actually. I wish they'd keep their recruiting efforts up there in the North so they can continue to devolve into oblivion. And I figured we were on the same page. I was just pointing out the obvious.
  3. But if you look at where the Big 10 teams try to recruit, they barely leave their neighborhood. Some of them are realizing the error of this logic, and trying to compensate. RichRod has said publicly that it's a priority for him to recruit Florida, and he plans to hit there early and often from now on. The fact that there are few kids from the South on those rosters is more a matter of intent than failure.
  4. He won at colleges with different academic qualifications than Notre Dame. We'll see how Kelly does with the kids he's able to get for the Domers.
  5. What if we just elminated everyone and handed you the trophy every year? Actually, aside from a ridiculous game against ISU, we've already gone ahead and eliminated everyone in the North this year on our own. Next year if we discover an offense that can crack that 106-yard barrier, we'll take the South to the woodshed, too. Fear us, if you dare!
  6. Kids from the South play in the Big 10 all the time. It depends on the kid, and if that kid wants to play in front of friends/family, they're not coming to Nebraska whether we're in the Big 12 or the Big 10. Kids want to play for winners. They want to have a chance to win, and they want to be a contributor. If we've got a need and we're a contender, no matter which conference we're in we'll get those recruits. We had zero teams from Texas in the Big 8, yet we had Texas kids on our roster all the time. Same goes for those New Jersey kids we had, Florida kids, etc. It's a tough argument to say that we're going to succeed/fail at recruiting because we're in This Conference or That Conference. This is a good conversation for fun, but it's very unrealistic. Bottom line, for me, is that this is OUR conference. We need to get our butts in gear and play better ball and take this conference to the woodshed, North AND South.
  7. Mangino is from Pennsylvania not Ohio. So you're saying he had a long commute to Youngstown every day?
  8. As I recall, they were about as excited for Dijon Washington as they were for Dejon Gomes. If he's even close to Gomes' level, we've got another solid guy back there. He'll be a RFR next year, yes?
  9. Programs like Nebraska, Michigan, Penn State, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, etc, all have too large of fan bases, too many boosters and too large of organizations to not remain competitive for too long. It's not just one part of the system that would have to break down, it's several parts, over the course of years. And that's unlikely to happen. Also, I don't see any reason why southern recruits would go elsewhere if we left the Big 12. Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State successfully recruit out of Florida, Texas and California. Why couldn't we?
  10. McCoy is a beast, but a player like McCoy comes around every draft. The last player like Ndamukong Suh was Warren Sapp in 1995. So you could have a player the likes of which you could get every year, or you could have a player the likes of which you could get every generation (give or take).
  11. Bump because it didn't show a new post.
  12. Here's the idea: We create a Huskerboard Starting Lineup. We nominate users for positions like Head Coach, QB, WR and Equipment Manager based on their posting style and the position "job description." After nominations are in we vote for the person we think best fits the position, and fill out a lineup. It's kind of a pat on the back for a job well done over the year. You start off with Head Coach nominations, then when nominations for HC are done you have your HC vote. While voting for HC you open up nominations for Offensive Coordinator, and then proceed down the roster, nominating for one and voting for the other until all positions are filled. It takes, tops, about a month to finish. Here's the job descriptions for Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator as examples: The positions are: Coaching Staff Head Coach - Offensive Coordinator - Defensive Coordinator - Offense QB - RB - RB - WR - WR - WR - FB - TE - TE - OT - OG - C - OG - OT - Special Teams/Support Staff K - P - KR - PR - Water Boy - Towel Boy - Equipment Manager - I have job descriptions for all of these positions. I also have a list of position descriptions for Defense and some more Special Teams positions as well, depending on how many roster spots we want to have. Let me know what you think.
  13. Michael Jordan got drafted third behind Houston's Hakeem Olajuwon (good pick, but not Jordan) and Portland's Sam Bowie (Worst pick in the history of the NBA). Here's hoping any of the truly bad teams listed who may get up there in the first or second position feel they have greater needs than DT, so Suh can go somewhere where he can excel.
  14. Man, ain't that the truth! We can't have our QB running for his life immediately after a five-step drop. Just can't happen. I've heard a lot about the injuries these guys have had, but I've never seen a run down. Anyone have a description of the injuries our O Line suffered this year?
  15. I'm mostly counting on seeing continued improvement under the Pelinis. It seems like everyone has ramped up their game each of the last two years, and I'm expecting Thenarse to do so, too.
  16. Listen, this has been a real barrel of fun and all, but I gotta hit the hay. Let's just everyone stay classy, eh? GBR!
  17. Did everyone lose the batteries in their Sarcasm Detectors at the same time? How much more obvious could it have been?
  18. Let's all just pray that the Bears lose out so he can go to everyone's favorite team - Chicago.
  19. I hope he comes back 100%, that's all. Too often we've seen guys get banged up, then not trust their limbs again. We'll have to see. I'm hopeful about Thenarse, too. We'll have four or five seniors in the secondary with Thenarse healthy next year. Should be a lot of fun.
  20. Why would you be intimidated by the board rules?
  21. I'm talking to you. Are you having trouble with reading comprehension? I can type more slowly if you are. I'll ask again - Why are you acting like a child? i think it is you who is having comprehension difficulties...no one said anything to you. go away. Since I'm acting like a grownup, I have no reason to "go away." However, since you can't seem to control yourself and want to act like an internet tough guy, you're attracting the attention of the Mods and... well, let's just say that others who have behaved like children have "gone away" before you. You won't be the first. Or, you could calm down, stop being petulant, and take your gripes to the woodshed where they belong. It's up to you.
  22. I would love to get a crack at Penn State in Women's Volleyball twice a year. Someone needs to knock them off their pedestal. Those girls are dominating.

  24. postted? really? I suppose since it's a free country i can root for whomever i choose... kind of like being entiled to my own 'opinion.' i'm sorry that your questionable grasp of the english language has impaired your ablility to tell the difference between respect and mockery, but don't try to make that my problem. you don't like my posts, put me on ignore. it's that simple. that is all. I'm missing the reason you're acting like a child. Care to explain?
