  1. I don't know, guys. I think that might be photoshopped. O_0
  2. If you were a Mizzou fan you'd be all a-twitter about your great QB and you wouldn't even dream that those were very poorly defended plays. All the chatter I'm hearing is that Gabbert had a great pass he made on that 74-yarder to Danario Alexander, when a competent defense would have defensed that pass or picked it off. It was a floater that he launched off his back foot. There were enough defensive breakdowns on that play to write a book about, but that's not what Missouri Fan focuses on. Instead, it's how great Gabbert is. Listen, I'm all about the Kool-Aid, but that's crazy talk. Wait a second . . . your tone sounds like you disagree with me but the substance of your post repeats what I just said. I guess I'm not following. I was trying to say that those passes were neither good decisions nor particularly well thrown. You agree? I was being silly. I agree with you entirely. The fact of the matter is, Gabbert got lucky on two big completions (one for a first down to his RB, the other to Danario Alexander for that long TD), both of which were floaters thrown off his back foot, both of which should have been defensed. I will double-dog guarantee you that if Gabbert throws passes like that against us, one of two things will happen - it will get picked off or it will get his receiver drilled. That's if he has time to throw, of course. Watching MO's O Line work, I get the impression Suh and Turner will be after Gabbert all game long.
  3. Gilleylen has accounted for 25% of our reception yards this year. Think opponents might want to start paying attention to this guy?
  4. Bo handed them out last year after the Kansas game a week after getting pasted by Oklahoma. My guess is he's using them for more of a motivational tool than anything else.
  5. No, of course not. I want the Blackshirts handed out, too. I would guess most everyone does. Like I said up there somewhere, I would expect them to be handed out sometime next week, before the Missouri game.
  6. Sorry. Missed that. I think Thenarse is out of luck, unless they say that he hasn't played every snap or something like that. Finding the actual rule on the NCAA site is difficult.
  7. Baylor has only played three games so far, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the medical redshirt.
  8. That was the point 40 years ago, but it's most definitely changed over the years into a badge of honor given out to the kind of player who represents the fierce defense we were once known for. And I have no doubt whatsoever that every player on that defense knows where they are on the depth chart and who the #1 at their position is, or any position for that matter. They know where they stand and what they have to do to overtake the guy ahead of them.
  9. Agreed about the blitzes. We'll run our base nickel with several blitzes thrown in to keep Gabbert out of his comfort zone. When he gets hurried he throws off balance and puts air under the ball. If we put pressure on him, our DBs could pick off some passes. We've barely brought pressure with the blitz this year, and I'm guessing Bo is holding those in reserve for conference play. Should be fun.

  11. Absolutely. If they don't scheme for him he's a home run threat every single play with that speed he has. Scout listed him at 4.53/40, but his "football speed" is pretty darned quick. He's presented a challenge for every defense he's faced simply because of that. He's also made a couple of tough catches in traffic, making me think he's really beginning to click. Good speed and good hands spell bad things for opposing secondaries. And the way the line is blocking right now, including at VT, Lee has all day to throw back there (with exceptions, of course).
  12. Bo and Co. can talk all they want about the scheme they ran last year. The bottom line in 2008 was that Missouri was just flat-out better than we were at that point in the season. If we had played them in late November instead of Colorado the outcome would have been different (I do believe), but five games into the Bo Pelini Era, I don't think it would have mattered what scheme we ran.
  13. No problem. I'm happy to help, and I'm sure others will chime in as they have time. Meredith is a redshirt Freshman listed at #2 behind Barry Turner at DE. He's looked good in limited duty, with a hi-rev motor and aggressive pursuit. The future looks bright with Meredith at DE. Receivers are a tough group to diagnose. We entered Fall camp with 15 WR on the roster. Menelik Holt and Niles Paul are listed at #1 at X and Y, respectively, but we've put a LOT of guys out there. Nine different receivers have caught passes so far, as well as three RBs and three or four TEs. We're spreading the ball around a LOT, and that's good. Curenski Gilleylen is looking good at WR. He's listed at #2 at X behind Holt, but he's caught eight passes and leads the team in yards (255, or one quarter of our receiving yards). He's fast and has shown decent hands. The biggest problem, though, is drops. We had several drops in every game, and you just can't have that. Someone needs to come forward and make that their job, and one of the ways they'll do it is by not dropping the ball. Holt, Paul and Gilleylen have all had bad drops. Chris Brooks had a good game against ULL, and may be trying to take away one of those starting spots from Paul/Holt. I hope that whoever gets the job during conference play works their butt off to keep it.
  14. If the Freshmen don't already know, then nobody's earned their Blackshirts.
  15. If we get to the Big XII Championship game with no more losses, even with a close loss there we'll be ranked high enough to be considered for a BCS bowl. The reality is this: It's too early to even think about our bowl placement. We haven't beaten anyone that would earn us a higher-tier bowl yet.
  16. The ref called fair catch interference. The fans probably couldn't hear him because they were (justifiably) booing so loudly. It was a badly blown call. I was listening to the game and on that call I distinctly remember the ref saying it was a personal foul...helmet to helmet contact. Then the announcers went on about how they are calling things like that more. But the call was helmet to helmet. Not sure where you heard that. The TV announcers went on and on about how he wasn't anywhere near the halo violation, and they even showed a slo-mo of the play and showed how far away he was from the receiver. I may have been distracted by beer and conversation, so you could be right, but I was pretty sure they said it was a personal foul, interference with the ability to catch the ball. Since the halo violation is a 15-yarder as well, it seemed like the call they were making.
  17. I would bet we'll see them this time next week.
  18. Our LBs are young and fast, with emphasis on "young." They're doing fine, and they have plenty of speed, but they're not breaking down on tackles like you'd hope quite yet. They're learning on the job and doing well despite their inexperience. Phillip Dillard got into the VT game and played against ULL and did just fine. He provides some great Senior leadership to this team, so it’s great to see him out there and productive. The funny thing about your question is this – we need less speed from our LBs right now because our D Line is so crazy fast. We’re seeing Crick and Suh running guys down all the time, and two times in the ULL game Cameron Meredith came flying off the End and ran someone down.
  19. Hasn't he played too many quarters this year to get a medical redshirt? He played 10 quarters. According to an article I read (may not be true, so grain of salt here) he may be granted a medical redshirt if he's only played 30% of the games or if the injury happened in the first three games. This was their third game. My guess is they'll have to wait and see if Baylor makes it to a bowl game.
  20. True. But even with Griffin they weren't a juggernaut. VT had better players across the field and we held them to their lowest point total and yardage production of the season so far. I have zero doubt that we would have contained Griffin, and once that was done, their offense would have folded. Without him.. who know what they're going to do?
  21. Overall our pass def has been OK. Better than in years past, that's for certain. We are ranked 31st in passing defense right now, but take that with a grain of salt - VT is a run-first offense, and while two of our opponents from the Sun Belt run Spread offenses, only ULL is a pass-first spread (AR State runs from the spread formation for the most part). With that said, we've seen fewer guys running open downfield than in years past. That O'Hanlon play against VT has been well dissected here and shown that he wasn't as much at fault as you may initially believe. Aside from that play there probably haven't been five more plays where opponents have roamed freely in our backfield. And let's also remember this - we did not blitz against FAU or ASU, and we barely blitzed against ULL. We had some run blitzes against VT and a couple of pass blitzes, but for the most part we've done what we've done without bringing extra guys. That bodes well for blitz packages against weaker offensive lines like we'll face in the Big 12.
