  1. It's never what the kid wants to do. It's what's best for the team, and that is decided by the coaches, not an individual player.
  2. I thought he was already locked up as well. He is. He's been locked up for quite a while now. Why this warranted a spot here is beyond me. Notice it wasn't posted by a Husker fan. I'm just sayin'.
  3. Will Compton is "that good" too, and he rode the pine all season long, because we didn't have a terrible need at the position. With three QBs, two of whom are supposed to be pretty darned good, there's no way we put 2014 ahead of 2009. They almost pulled Compton's redshirt off at least once during a tense game, then cooler heads prevailed. Yeah, I remember Carl talking about that on local TV after the season. It would have been a mistake, and it would be a mistake to burn Green's redshirt, too.
  4. Yeah, Redshirt sophomore and he led them in rushing last year. They have some pretty talented running backs to lean on, but he's a big loss. This is really too bad - we want Tech to be as formidable and highly ranked as possible when we play them.

  6. Before we rip on them too much for everyone having mohawks, let's also remember in the 90s when those crazy-good defenses of ours all shaved their heads. It's a unity building thing. It's cool. Still won't help them win against us, though.
  7. Either Lee or Spano (I don't think both, though) came early like Green did. I think we have more experience at QB than most people unfamiliar with the program (read: sportswriters/voters) know, so I think we'll be OK there. I think ZLee's time here, and maturity, will work in his and the team's favor. I would be shocked to see anyone besides Lee start, and I would be shocked to see Green play this year.
  8. Is there something about Green that makes him a focus for you, or are you just saying that you hope we have a QB who is so good the coaches have to play him? What if that guy who is so good is Zac Lee? Or LaTravis Washington? Or Kody Spano? Is there something about Green that makes him more important to play, or is it just that you want a good QB?
  9. The measure of a fan base is not whether we call Rivals or not, though. I've never heard this show and I'm reasonably well informed.
  10. Here's one for Cy, when the 'clones were beating the Huskers 3-0 in 2007: LARGE PIC
  11. I've always hated that picture. I was looking away from the camera and it got my bad side.
  12. SEC is the best conference I'm a Big XII homer and all, but the reality is the SEC is better. We have work to do, especially in the bottom of the conference, before we're in the same league as the SEC.
  13. I think if it comes down to LaTravis, especially early in the season and maybe all season (not really sure what we're getting here with the guy), we'll shift the offense into a heavy run-oriented attack, most likely focusing on the zone read. Anyone who saw LW throw in the Spring Game knows he has a cannon, but throwing just isn't his game. He's fast and agile and would be an absolute beast to take down. If we're in a position to start him, he won't be running the Wats Coast offense. And yeah - I don't know what Shatel is talking about here with Green. If I had to guess I'd say it has more to do with needing something to write about since practices are 95% closed to the press, and he's written about most everyone else already. Otherwise... this story doesn't make a lot of sense....?
  14. True, but I doubt that many guys will redshirt every year under Bo. Sooner or later, some true freshman have to play. Its a recruiting matter, also. Many big time recruits want to play right away, and many times they are ready. Not to mention, it would create a bit of a scholarship problem if 15-20 guys redshirt every year. You're right. What I was getting at wasn't that Bo will redshirt that many every year, it's that he's not afraid to redshirt guys. I think that's what we should take from last year. I'm certain we'll play the right guys, freshman or not.
  15. If we suck so much, why are they able to make money off of us? Things that make you say "Hmmmm...."
  16. That's what I see them doing with LaTravis this year, too. He's SOOOO athletic. He'd knock some LBs down if they didn't wrap him up. Imagine the Option with ZLee and LaTravis in the backfield. Lee pitches the ball, and LaTravis throws over the defense.... TD, KYLER REED!!!! For what Green is supposed to bring to the table, I think we have that in spades with ZLee and Spano, and they've both been in the system longer. For pure raw athleticism we have LaTravis. As many guys as Bo redshirted last year, I would be very surprised to see Green play at all. Think of Cody Green in the role of Robert Griffin on the Scout Team, though. He'd be ideal training for the Blackshirts.
  17. Fun read. The whole "best case/worst case" stuff is a fun way to hedge on your predictions, but really, who knows what's going to happen?
  18. Errr.... did Shatel have the day off on April 19th or something? Green wasn't impressive at all at the Spring Game. He seemed OK, but nothing he did made me think he was even close to challenging for the starting job. LaTravis Washington was more impressive and seemed, at the time, more likely to make a push for playing time. Green will redshirt unless the top two guys go down. If Spano is healthy and ready to go, and it sounds like he is, there's zero reason to burn Green's redshirt with ZLee, Spano and Washington at QB. That would be foolish.
  19. Don't go head-casing on us, Q!!! We need you back there, man! We're stocked at RB with the incoming youngsters, so maybe Castille just felt a lot of pressure about keeping his job. By all accounts those "voluntary" workouts this summer were highly intense, and that can get to a guy. Hopefully this is all worked out and he's ready to get out there and crack some pads.
  20. This is one of those ridiculous ugly truths about recruiting rankings. If Kid A and Kid B are equally talented, Kid A will get a higher star rating if he commits to USC and Kid B commits to Missouri. Kinda makes ya wonder what the point of the rankings are if they're so flexible, huh?
  21. The best players will play, without bias. I think we know enough about Bo to know that's how it's going to be. We'll see different guys in different packages, but it's going to boil down to who puts the time in at practice, the weight room and in learning the playbook. That's about it.
  22. Nice to see that. There's a reason we all congregate here, and it's cool to see HB listed first and foremost amongst options. Hooray, HuskerBoard! Have I mentioned before that I am man-crushing on The Quad? This section of the NYTimes has quickly made itself the go-to site for college football news. This article is just one of dozens and dozens they've written, as in-depth as this, about every team in 1A football. They're taking their time, being fairly unbiased and accurate (aside from "Mike" Compton ), and have just a ton of info on each team so far. I have very few links on my link bar thingy, but they're one of them. Good stuff.
  23. I continue to be amazed that Texas Tech gets so little respect. People are either oblivious to the history of this offense or just plain belligerent not to rank them. Most of these preseason rankings are made based on what teams lost rather than what they actually have. Tech is being ranked on what they lost, but don't forget - this was a 10-2 team last year. They won't be pushovers this year, not in any way.
  24. That catch/run by Reed in the Spring Game, when at least one DB had the angle on him and he outran the pack, was amazing. That was about the fastest I've seen a Husker pass catcher run.... ever? If not ever, it's been a long time.
