  1. All this does is cement the fact that Callahan is 99% responsible for the terrible shape of this program right now.
  2. I said it before in another thread, but I totally agree with this sentiment. If Coach Gill keeps improving I think he's destined to be the HC back home here at Nebraska. But he needs more time to develop before taking over the reins. Time and "seasoning" are all that's keeping him from wearing the headphones here. That's my take. Gill would be considered an up and coming coach. He has as much experience as Meyer did when he took over Utah and more then Pelini has now. I do not understand all this sentiment to brush Gill aside. I not endorsing the guy for the Head Coach job, but I would give him a hard look if I were an AD. Personally, I'm not brushing him aside. I'm urging caution in the optimism regarding him. Taking over Utah and taking over Nebraska are vastly different things, as I'm sure you'll agree. While it worked out for Urban Meyer, that's one case in literally dozens, most of which have not worked out so well. Further, Gill has only been HC at Buffalo for two seasons, and not yet two full seasons at that. I don't get all the Pelini love when he has never had any HC experience, either.
  3. This year more than any other is showing us what teams can do with proper motivation, recruiting classes and gaudy Heisman candidates notwithstanding.

  5. How long have you been gone? Val’s has been mediocre at best for a LONG time. They really started going downhill when they sold their souls to the buffet model. Everything became huge fluffy breadsticks and overcooked, soft pasta. It’s all bread and crap pasta now, with little or no sauce, and NONE of the love they used to put in their food. What sickens me is going into Val’s on Holdrege and seeing all the pictures on the wall, and seeing how they hang their hat on the tradition of Val and Zena (sorry if I misspelled those), when they couldn’t be further from what Valentino’s used to be back in the day. I started going to Val’s when I was four or five, back in the 70s when my folks used to take us to the State Fair. Every single year we would go look at the fair, then eat dinner at Val’s by East Campus. The food was excellent, way better than it is today. Heck, back in the 60s when my dad was going to Midland College, he and his roommate would drive down to Lincoln, pick up 15-20 pizzas, drive them back up to Fremont and sell them on campus out of the car. And when people knew they had Val’s pizza, they’d come running across campus to get one. It’s just not like that now. The pizza isn’t nearly as good, and the pasta is… horrendous. I’m sorry, but there’s just no other way to put it.
  6. Now forward this email this to ten friends. If eight of them send it back to you, you're a good person. If six send it back to you, you have a good heart. If four send it back to you, you need to work on your charm. If only two people send it back to you, you are not a nice person. If nobody sends it back to you, your name must be Steve Pedersen.
  7. 2004 called. They asked you to see the Huskers' record from that year.
  8. I have long thought that Turner would one day be the HC at Nebraska. I was not sorry to see him go to Buffalo - I felt that he needed to gain seasoning as a HC at another school (or two) before returning to his home here at Nebraska. I think Turner's future will be here, but I don't know that he's ready for the reins just yet. He's still young, and God willing we'll have him sometime in the future, and maybe for a long time after that.
  9. I know we can win, but I don't think we will. Still, I'll be rooting like mad for the underdog Huskers. (it's so weird to type that!)
  10. Exactly. You are wise, grasshopper!
  11. Maybe this will motivate the team to focus on the tournament. I really think this was a fortuitous loss, and so is the demotion in the polls.
  12. You are right, but that was four years ago and apparently his mind has changed.
  13. From what I understand Monte has said he's not interested in the job now, but I don't recall a direct quote saying as much. I think he would be a good DC, but I have no idea if he's qualified to be HC.
  14. I'm a Mizzou fan, and I certainly wouldn't wish any injury on any opposing teams players no matter what I thought of the player. It is always terrible to see any player go down no matter who he plays for, and when it is a senior it especially sucks. While I certainly agree with the penalty called against Pig when he went at MO, I don't think he was intending for the play to come out like he did. I have watched the reply, and I think his view of the play was blocked and that he was just trying to get in there and make a hit. Truman, we've picked up a lot of riff raff around here the last month or so. It's never good to see a player get hurt, my appologies for the "Captain" Exactly. Please don't judge all of us by this comment. Injuries are nothing to laugh about.
  15. It's really too bad that Keller lost out on this much of his final college year. I appreciate all the hard work he did for us this year, and I hope he goes on to a good NFL career.
  16. I thought this was the key to the game, too. Horrible play-calling. You don't burn clock with over six minutes to go in the game when you have a potential spirit-killing trunover deep in your opponent's territory. If we put seven more points on the board there that 86-yard run doesn't kill us, it just gets them closer.
  17. This from one of the reporters with the team at the game:
  18. A link probably isn't needed. As someone who has actually had and still has a messed up shoulder the way he grabbed that thing and when he tried to move it leads me to believe three things...............broken collarbone, seperated shoulder, torn labrum. The collarbone and torn labrum are season enders. If the shoulder is seperated it is his non-throwing arm so he may try to tough it out. I'm just saying that no official source that I've seen has said he's broken his collarbone. I have no doubt that would be a season-ender, but all the same I'd like some proof.
  19. Link to the collarbone assertion? Some nitwit said that on the Journalstar blogs, but there's no substantiation that I've found yet. Anyone got a link?
  20. I think this mess of threads was out of hand, so I respectfully do not agree, grateful. Too many rumor threads, too many Bo Pelini threads...... and I've only been a member of this board for two days!
  21. I'm well aware of the differences between the two schemes, and I'm not on your case. I'm just casually disagreeing with you. As for the other 100+ coaches, there were about 90+ other coaches who wouldn't run it in the 1990s, and we still won three titles in four years with it then. All I'm saying is that any system can be successful with the right personnel. That's all.
  22. I get what you're saying, but they were declaring the option dead in the late 80s. Then we won three MNC's in the late 90s. OOOPS! It's all about personnel. Yeah, it'd be far harder to recruit kids these days running that scheme, but it could be done.
  23. I think he'd jump at the opportunity. He's a triple option kinda' guy and he knows Nebraskans would embrace that. Too bad it would be stupid to run the triple option in the Big 12... Errr. . . yeah, because Texas had no success with the Read Option, right? Any system, even the Wishbone, could be successful today, given the right personnel running it.
  24. Yeah - at least the rest of the nation doesn't think we're the incest capitol of the world!
  25. That's a pretty big risk to take if you think you have a shot at the Big XII Title, which Texas certainly has. Basically your best-case scenario in that situation is that you'll be tied 1-1 with Nebraska after the home-and-home matches, and you have to hope someone else beats them. You're putting your season in someone else's hands, rather than giving both matches your best effort. Texas is really the only legitimate contender for the Big XII Title (regular season) this year, so hoping that someone else takes down the only other legitimate contender for you is pretty far-fetched. Aside from that, NU has all the tape in the world to watch on Texas, so it's not like they don't know what that team can do simply because Hooker and Engle didn't play in Lincoln. It's an interesting theory (and I like conspiracy theories), but I'm not buying it.
