  1. There's also 7 (MO) & 4 (IL) recruits on that list. (NE)=0 Unfortunately, Missouri is becoming a fairly solid state for talent. Throw in East St. Louis and Pinkly has half a class of 4 & 5 stars within a 15-25 minute helicopter ride. Missouri has always been a solid state for talent. That's why TO has always said that Mizzou was a sleeping giant. If they ever are able to close the borders in recruiting, then they will be very good. For all his warts, Pinkel has done an excellent job in that regard. And that hurts Nebraska doubly because it also drains them of a region that used to be ripe for Nebraska's picking. We still get guys from Missouri (like Rome, Compton, McNeill, Brooks, etc.), but it's now a battle to get them out of Mizzou's paws. Sleeping giant is a bit of a stretch, I'd go more w/ stoned midget. Generally high and inebriated (< 2003), a stoned midget often wakes up hungry. This leads to short outburts of ankle biting and a general pain in the a$$ stretch of livelyhood (2005-2008) - fortunately it's quickly followed by another mellow stretch of emptyness (2009-*) (MO) Recruits in top 250 2010 - 3 2009 - 3 2008 - 1 (b. gabbert) 2007 - 4 2006 - 2 (j. freeman) Again, those were TO's words. I'm sure he didn't mean they would be the next Florida, Miami or USC, but I do think he meant that they would be a serious force to be reckoned with in conference play. My point is that I think TO's comment suggests that Missouri didn't all of a sudden get talented recruits in the last few years. They have always had a lot of talent in the state. Pretty much everyone knows that.

  3. Looks like Mizzou has two commits on the list too.
  4. A lot of it is location, location, location. When you have a school that is located in southern California, where the sun always seems to shine, the weather is warm, the girls are hot, and hollywood is right around the corner with all the parties it isn't hard to recruit. Then there are probably those kids that come looking for the trouble, gangs, etc. UCLA is kind of the little brother when it comes to schools out there...and the kids that do go there sometimes also can't get into USC or the hardest to get into Stanford with their ACT/SAT scores. Southern California and Florida schools all have a real edge when trying to recruit young kids that are impressionable and have probably felt like they have been stuck in the location they grew up. This is kind of like reading a UCLA board in which someone says that UNL is the little brother to UNO. Just because USC is more expensive doesn't mean it is harder to get into. Ask anyone who lives in California and they'll tell you the same. The ranking of academic prestige for California schools (off the top of my head) probably goes something like this: Stanford, Cal, UCLA, UCSD, USC (and the might be another UC school or two ahead of USC). Remember also that these are mostly California recruits - usually southern California. In fact, 16 of their 22 signees are from California. And remember also that California is right up there with Texas as the state with the most high school talent. So there's really no excuse for UCLA not to have a top 10-15 recruiting class every year. UCLA has an amazing location (bordered by Hollywood, Brentwood, Bell Air and Santa Monica), is close to home for many top recruits, has an excellent academic reputation and (right now at least) has a very good coaching staff. I understand your hatred for Neuheisel. How do you think I felt as a kid that grew up in Lincoln and went to UCLA when the Bruins hired Slick Rick? But be careful about immediately assuming that he pulled off some illegal recruiting tactics in order to land such a great class. After all, it's not like he landed this kind of class at Boise St. or Wyoming.
  5. Aaron won't be close to 5 stars when the rankings come out. Rivals listed him as 8th in Texas. Because his Jr season was plagued with injuries he went from being a top15 player to a player in the 50-80 range. You're right, though I think he'll be a high 4-star.
  6. It'll be released at the end of the work day for the pacific coast. When's that? Sometime between 7-8 Cent I was lied to! I'm just the messenger... I read that was the release time on another board. However, Rivals could be delaying their rankings for another week for all we know. In that case I'm definitely going to bed.
  7. Same here. I don't think I've been to Scout's site for over a year.
  8. Kind of makes you wonder why a few more of the top $C recruits didn't take the same wait-and-see approach. After all, guys like Prater, Baxter and Woods are good enough that any team would still take them in late February if the NCAA comes down hard on the Trojans.
  9. What are the chances this kid changes his mind in the next 4-5 years? After all, his favorite TV show right now is Dora the Explorer. Me gusta USC!
  10. A verbal commitment from a 13-year-old is worth about as much as a message board post. Former USC basketball coach Tim Floyd also used to get verbal commits from 13-year-old kids. And how did that work out for Floyd?
  11. I probably couldn't run a 20 that fast. A 4.31 40 and he's white? Sorry, not buying it.
  12. Can't wait to see that pic of Adrian Fiala with his shirt off again.
  13. If Green waits until signing day, this thread is going to blow Owa's out of the water.
  14. And I broke the HUGE news about Harold Mobley signing with Colorado! Actually I was going to send EZ-E a PM telling him how impressed I've been with his posts and telling him how I think he would make a terrific recruiting analyst someday, but I thought that might come across a bit sappy. But seeing how everyone else is gushing over the guy, I thought I'd go ahead and make my sentiments public. So this is me raising a pint to EZ.
  15. Bringing Carnes' profile back to the top to remind folks that he's about to be interviewed on 1620.
  16. Signed with Colorado. What's funny is in the Rivals story about him signing with CU it says that he chose CU over a scholarship offer from Nebraska. Give it up, Harold. Link
  17. That's great to see. And I love it when kids from other states choose to walk on at Nebraska!
  18. Kevin Kugler just said on 1620 that Nebraska fans are posting horrible things on Owa's facebook page right now. I hate it when idiot "Husker fans" make the other 99% of us look bad by doing these kind of things or talking trash on other schools' message boards. Hopefully no 2011 recruits take a gander of Owa's FB page. Too bad we can't ban these bad apples from Husker Nation.
  19. Brion will be on 1620 at 5:10 today. That should be an interesting interview.
  20. Come on now Bruin...we wouldn't do that to you. Just say you love the Huskers more then the Bruins and do the wild cob for us and you are golden. But seriously no hate needs to go to UCLA whatsoever. I really hope Owa is great, makes it to the NFL, and provides for his family...he deserves it IMO. If I was Owa...let me tell you it would be tough to turn down going to UCLA. They have some good lookin ladies there. No doubt about that. My UCLA friends (and my wife, who was a UCLA athlete!) hate it when I say it, but I root for Nebraska if/when they ever play each other. GBR!
  21. I thought they were interviewing his high school coach when he first started talking. Loved that Ashburn interview as well.
  22. Neuheisel closes like a true car salesman.......a very good one.
  23. Committed to UCLA. The rich get richer.
