  1. BO: "Hmmmm.... These guys are so out of shape that I need to get them doing a few laps around the Mangino... errr field. My bad. I wonder if there is a single one who could bench press a Mangino..... errrr bus."
  2. On every play?? Either the play terminology was way to complicated and/or Calli wanted the QB to come see him after every play to bolster his ego and let everyone in the stadium know who was in charge.
  3. I think I saw a link to them on huskerpedia.com . I already got the coach I wanted for Christmas. Now I just need my dog. Maybe I'll get her a husker collar or coat.
  4. I could see the conversation between Ark and Callihan now: LONG: Bill, why do you think they let you go at Nebraska? CALLIi: Those a$$hole fans they have never gave me chance. I was this close == to winning a national championship. LONG: How would you handle recruiting at Arkansas? CALLI: I would tell the kids I could guarantee them a job in the pros after graduation. I have my connections. LONG: Bill, what do you think about half-time adjustments? CALLI: Funny you should ask. I don't believe in making changes to my offense or defense. The schemes I think up are perfect in every way. Why change them at half-time? LONG: Interesting. Why do you beleive you never won a game when trailing at the half? CALLI: You can't trust those college kids. You give them a plan and in the second half they quit on you. I don't understand what's wrong with college kids these days. LONG: What assistant coaches would you consider hiring? CALLI: I definately will be bringing in my buddy Kevin Cosgrove as Defensive Coordinator. He's a hellofa defensive mind. I also have seen a few good assistants in the movie "The Longest Yard" that I would like to interview. LONG: Bill, how would you get the team back on track if you had a streak of two or three losses? CALLI: That one's easy. I wouldn't confuse the players with any changes and I wouldn't have any contact during practice so they don't get hurt and aren't challenged. Then I would I would make some yawning motions and spitting during the games so the players know I mean business. Eventually that will work and I will have them ready for contention for a national title in a year or two after that. LONG: What kind of offense do you plan on installing? CALLI: I will install my famous west coast offense. It's a terrific system. I'll bend the existing players to make them fit in my offense if necessary then I'll add a few recruits that shouldn't need any coaching. They'll be ready to go right out of junior college or high school. We'll be able to take what we want on the field because nobody will be able t stop us. Well, some teams did stop us at Nebraska, but that wasn't my fault. And, we'll usually score on every possession anyway because we may need to in most games. I like a wide open affair to draw in the fans. Of course, it does take just a bit of study to learn my offense so don't plan on any offensive players attending any classes. They will need that time to study my 20 pound playbook. LONG: Thanks for your time coach. Don't call us, we'll call you. CALLI: Great! Oh, did I mention I will need a 3 or 4 million dollar buyout clause in my contract just in case you decide to fire me?
  5. He may have a form of TMJ, which causes a variety of symptoms, including a mild aching of the joints of your jaw. That's just pure speculation, though. I doubt your diagnosis. Most likely it's just a valsalva maneuver to open his Eustachian tubes. TMJ problems can actually be very severe and debilitating. Yup. That sounds like what he has, TMJ.
  6. Would the front of that T look neater as Tom OsBOrne Pelini Well, maybe not.
  7. Watson has got to get rid of the QB having to run to the sideline for every play. That was the most rediculously stupid way to get plays in that I've ever seen. Then continuing to do it for 4 long years.
  8. You missed an "I". BOLINIGUINI!!
  9. JT - check out the pics of Bobby Reynolds and Fran Nagel in HuskerTape's link. Reynolds played from 50-52 and Nagel was there at the same time, maybe a year earlier or so. Judging by the image names, the pics of these guys were from 1950. The old-school uniforms were kind of cool. Thankfully, the mascot has been updated since 1959: (new Herbie and Lil Red are both preferable to this heh) I sort of like him. He just needs some better shoes.
  10. I wouldn't want to dis Bo, far from it. What do you think the chances are that he will be one of the greatest coaches in college football? The odds suggest he doesn't have much of a chance. Very few coaches make that list. I'll sure will give him a chance, and I really do hope for the best. But, the odds are against him, as I am sure you understand. Bob Devaney, and Tom Osborne are a big act to live up to. It is unlikely that Bo will be that good. It's not at all negative, just true. We had an incredible run with Devaney and Osborne. Maybe never to be seen again. I've met negative people like yourself. You're ready to lose before the game is even played. I disagree with you wholeheartedly. I'm not at all negative about Pelini. I think he has a good chance to be a good coach for NU. But what are the chances of any coach being as great as Osborne? Not good. He is unique. Hey, I'm all for Pelini. I think he is a good choice. But will he be a great coach? Probably not. Most aren't ya know, even the good ones aren't as great as Os. My guess is that Pelini will be a good thing for us. But a return to the glory days isn't likely to happen anytime soon. It's just the way football goes. I'm all for Pelini and I will cheer for the Huskers. Just don't get disappointed if we aren't like the glory teams of the past. The "Glory Days" WILL probably return under Pelini. But it depends if you mean Tom's 1st 10 years or Tom's last 10 years as your definition of "Glory Days". Remember, Bob Devaney was here for quite a while before he won his two national championships. If you think NU can't return to 9 win seasons in most years you have sadly bought into Callahan's parity theory. Ask Bob Stoops about parity vs. good coaching.

  13. Isn't Mangino responsible for 2% of the World's methane pollution?
  14. Mangino wasn't that big until someone gave him a shovel for Christmas. Mangino preparing breakfast -
  15. I think someone should print this thread and mail it to Callahan and Coz.
  16. This is an interesting article http://bigrednetwork.com/archives/2007/12/...e_recruits.html You’d have to think that the hiring of Bo Pelini will give the Huskers an excellent chance to retain the defensive recruits that have committed to Nebraska or to replace them with other players. The Huskers also appear likely to meet their needs on the offensive line and at tight end. Offensively, that leaves…well…everything else. After next season, the Huskers will have only two scholarship quarterbacks with eligibility. They’ll need more. The upcoming class needs to include one to two more. Blaine Gabbert would seem hard to lure back from Missouri, but James Vandenberg, Iowa’s all-time leading passer could become a Husker. Beyond those two, Nebraska doesn’t appear real close on any other quarterbacks. With the Huskers losing a slew of wide receivers this year (Maurice Purify, Terrence Nunn, Frantz Hardy, and Dan Erickson) and next (Todd Peterson and Nate Swift) new faces will be needed to fill the holes. So far aside from trying to keep juco transfer Adrian Hilburn and lure back D.J. Woods, there’s been little action toward bolstering the receiving corps. The Huskers have running back options, but they can quickly be depleted. Marlon Lucky could go pro, Cody Glenn could continue struggling with injuries, Major Culbert could be needed on defense, and Collins Okafor could opt to go elsewhere. That would leave only the three running backs from last year’s class (Quentin Castille, Roy Helu, and Marcus Mendoza) unless the Huskers poach another defender like Prince Amukamarato fill out the position. Fortunately, running back is one spot where teams can be late to the game and still find a good one. Brandon Jackson was a late recruit for Nebraska back in 2004. The Huskers might also want to add a fullback. They don’t have a single scholarship player at that spot on the roster, nor do they appear real close on luring one to Lincoln. Of course, depending on the offense it may not be a need, but if it is then the Huskers have a lot of work to do. The fact that the Huskers are needy on offense makes sense. For weeks or even months it’s been apparent that the coaching staff at Nebraska would not be returning. Defensive guru Bo Pelini has been announced as the new head coach but so far no formal announcements have been made about the assistants that will be running the offense. Will Nebraska continue to run the West Coast offense? Will it be a spread option? A triple option? Until the coaching staff can get real specific about the future of the Husker offense, it will likely be a struggle to lock in commitments from offensive skill players. And particularly at quarterback and receiver, there’s no time to waste.
  17. Unproven team with an unproven head coach, the Huskers won't be ranked in preseason polls. If the season starts with impressive wins we'll move into the 20-25 area until we show we can defeat quality opponents.

  19. They must have thought Callahan was going to be here a lot longer.
  20. Looks like we knew how to do it best, though!
  21. Oh hell, ya'll are havin' your kind of fun and I am not about to try to throw water on that parade. Some of the comments just aren't very funny, and I wish there was more respect, but what the hell there isn't and that's the way it is. This kind of stuff wouldn't have even occurred to most of us back in the '60s, '70s, and maybe even some of the '80s. I guess it's a different sort of humor. And I really don't like it. you, my friend, are a stick in the mud. I apologize if that offends you. Oh, I know I am a stick in the mud. I accept that. I just come from a different time I suppose. But just for a moment think about the greatest coach ever here at NU. I can't imagine people making the kinds of comments that are common here, about Tom Osborne. Is he a stick in the mud. Yes, for sure. Is Bo Pelini as good a coach as Os? Not likely ever. I hope so, but probably not gonna happen. The issue is respect. Tom Osborne deserves respect, and his programs were respected, and what ya'all are doing isn't very respectful. I hope Bo works out, but I also hope he can lead through respect like Tom Osborne did. Maybe if he can lead, ya'all can learn to follow. Old fart to old fart. The Internet provides anonymity, age indifference and worldwide broadcast. Like me, I'm sure your sense of humor was much different when you were in your teens or twenties. Tell me you didn't get together with friends then and make many disrespectful statements about respectful people. As you've aged your desire for respect and your appreciation of respect has grown. Now statements you would have passed off as funny when you were younger you now find insulting or disrespectful. Don't deny other people the right to express themselves as their life experiences or lack there of have molded their thoughts into a different pattern than your own. And realize the Internet allows anyone into a discussion by a group of friends regardless of age or experience. Also, is your negative statement about Plelini's career at NU not being up to the quality of Osborne's evidence of your own lack of respect showing? Everyone, especially in sports, will eventually have their records broken. Others WILL come who will equal or surpass comparisons to Tom Osborn and Bob Devaney. Count on it. Will that person be Bo Pelini? No one knows but if you were around during the years of Devaney and Osborne you know how close the later was to being fired himself before pulling the missing pieces to his program together. So, give Bo his chance. And give other posters their chance, too.
  22. I hope Tom never learns how the voting was manipulated. How was the poll manipulated? Anyone who thinks an internet poll is scientific is sadly mistaken. It is a popularity poll where the person who gets the word out (or their supporters) wins. TO's supporters got the word out better than any one else, he won. I guess you didn't see the thread/post about how to setup automated recurring voting macros. Read this thread in it's entirety http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.ph...=23335&st=0
  23. NOTE: This seems to be a joke. I don't see it on ESPN or elsewhere yet. http://www.bleacherreport.com/articles/451...tirement-061207 LOS ANGELES - In an unexpected move, USC head football coach Pete Carroll announced his retirement from coaching late Wednesday. Although Carroll declined to give details on his decision to step down, an unidentified source close to the coach gave some insight. “Coach was still pretty shook up about that Stanford loss,” the source said. “There were times I’d come into his office in the weeks after that game and he’d be watching the tape of the last two minutes on a continuous loop, and he’d be rocking back and forth in his chair and crying a little.”
  24. After the Ball State game I realized they probably wouldn't beat Missouri. When that materialized I expected Callahan to replace Coz. Then when they dropped the OKie St. game I didn't think they would win another game this year and expected Callahan wouldn't make it to the end of the season. Only Tom's grace allowed him to finish the season.
  25. I hope Tom never learns how the voting was manipulated.
