  1. Appreciate the responses. Don't get why that would be put out there w/o context and why anyone feels the need to respond when there's no context. Maybe she heard a great joke, but who the heck knows. The stupidity of Twitter, I guess.
  2. How do laughing emojis apply to the next HC? What is the assumption?
  3. This aint gonna happen. But man, it would fire me up.
  4. I'd have to know the state of their O and D lines to determine if those are apples-apples comparisons. Other first year coaches are not having that level of success.
  5. I'm willing to believe the new coach is a done deal or very close. And I'm sure Mickey already knows where he stands whether its HC, Assistant, or Out.
  6. I'm willing to believe this season's team is not Mickey's vision for his program.
  7. I see it as All of the above. Could probably add something about which positions post most of the talent relative to rest of team. Depth aside, they need a higher concentration of top talent in the blocking and tackling positions.
  8. Agree with this, yet ironically he was part of the problem today.
  9. Definitely my thought on Whipple. I think this is a win if Smothers had played the whole second half. Not get too fired up about the D, considering Busch wasn't brought here to coordinate it. Yet, he was clearly out-coached in 2nd half. Needed to bring a lot more heat on the replacement QB.
  10. This is kinda where I"m at with all of this. There might be some kernels of truth in all this reporting er rumor mongering. Sure someone will be able to say their "leak" was the one that turned out to be accurate, but 99% of this is crap. if I were AD, I"d leak all kinds of rumors to throw people off the scent.
  11. This seemed to be a major flaw with Frost. I think he thought he had all the answers.
  12. A lot of recency bias with the BB love. He's had more average-crappy seasons than great ones.
  13. 1. Yes, its a single point to define preparedness. Literally every coach has fallen behind in games in their career; even lost some of them. 2. He shows preparedness in ways he interacts with the media, the way the team responds to him (doesn't guarantee victory), his recruiting prowess. 3. Agree about low bar, yet nobody is stating it should absolutely be Mickey's job versus the unknown list of coaches where mutual interest in the job exists.
  14. Ability to be prepped for all aspects of coaching only equates to never falling behind in games? That's a very narrow window to define one's preparation ability. If we're simply going to look at game results and nothing else, the team has seemed to be better prepared than under the previous coach, and today's scheme was going okay until Thompson injury and the baffling decision to stick with Purdy. (Mickey was probably to soft in not taking the game out of Whipple's hands.)
  15. Yep, judge him off the results of this game. Please be consistent and do that with all the other "hot" names some will throw out.
  16. While I'm not reading to write off Mickey (especially just based off today's results), I understand his drawbacks and your reasoning against him getting the job.
  17. For me, its just the inconsistent tone and judgments in some posters' comments. It insults our collective intelligence. 'The Illinois game NOW shows us that Mickey is ABSOLUTELY not qualified to be the guy' Then we'll see names throw out as quality candidates with worse losses on their resume than #17 Illinois. But, sure, okay buddy, Mickey sucks.
  18. Admittedly, I can't give you a square answer anymore than you can probably state which experienced coaches started as an in-season interim with a dumpster fire team, immediately turned it around that season, and became what we could probably agree on as a "successful" coach. Being a former Husker (in the sense of one that seems to want Nebraska to succeed for the sake of Nebraska) and being a great recruiter are outstanding in and of themselves. I think he possesses qualities like Preparedness, Relatability, Hardnosed, Winner..I could keep going. Depending on which experienced coach you liken those qualities, he either compares or surpasses. This doesn't mean I think he's necessarily the best or only choice. it just mean I more willing to judge him on some positive qualities rather than only the outcomes of games for a program he's been part of for a matter of months, and only somewhat in charge of for 3-4 games.
  19. I'd have to go back and look at last year's games (specifically Iowa), but I don't recall Smothers looking as unskilled or unprepared as Purdy did today. Obviously, I don't see what's going on in practice.
  20. So the team looked bad this week so its clear this Mickey can't possible have HC chops? Got it. I get the resume argument and I haven't really seen anyone argue that Mickey HAS to be the next coach. Just funny to me that by some commenters' logic, guys like Gundy and Clawson should be let go after today's performances. Heck, those coaches actually got to recruit all their players and even lead spring and fall practices. Would think there'd be more general support for him as a former Husker than trying to constantly find reason for why he's not good enough for "us".
  21. From my eyes, it appeared the team was playing with a better attitude post OU til the 2nd half of this game, and the W-L record was reflecting that. I think its silly (unfair?) to lay the OU loss on Mickey.
  22. For the first time since the Frost/Chinander firings, was disappointed with the coaching, specifically Whipple. It was clear Purdy was no where near prepared for the combination of our O-line and the Illinois D. While he looked bad passing, he even made Thomson look like Lamar Jackson with how slow he moves. Yet, Smothers could barely get a sniff. And with the "only" a 2 score deficit, Whipple seemingly called played to simply get the offense off the field. Would've liked to have seen Mickey take more command here.
