  1. I agree with that, but I dont think Watson needed to wait THAT long to pull that off. It was well established in the first quarter that it seemed NU wouldnt take shots further than 10 yards. To answer the topic, yes, I've been annoyed all season with NU's either lack of skill or will to throw passes over 15 yards. I think what annoys me more than that are the receivers not running routes past the first down marker. It seemed there were quite a few times today that the reveiver who got the 3rd down catch consistently had to "fight" for the first down because the route was broken off a yard before the sticks. I wonder if this is by design or poor route running.
  2. I agree that there were too many dropped passes today, but I dont think its an epidemic yet.
  3. I just want to see progress. The coaching staff has been touting that this team is better now than what we saw against Mizzou. I'll buy that so far. But then I also want to see the OU game closer than 52-17 for me to buy that angle 100%. I hope NU shuts down Murray. I can live with getting burned in the secondary due to talent, but its disheartening when I see NU get pushed around up front.
  4. I agree that Lucky is better than "average". When it comes to Ganz, I guess it depends on your definition of "average". For me, if it wasnt for some of his decision making, I think he'd be considered "great". So, I guess, to me, he's a "good", not "great" QB. Great athletic ablitly; average headiness.
  5. I, for one, thought it was appalling. Certianly NU, at times, didnt look like they wanted this game, but I can think of a few calls that really stood out, that seemed awfully one-sided when taken as a lump sum. 1) Horse Collar call on Glenn in the first half I thought was pretty weak. He grabbed Griffin and just hung on. Griffin then just kind of "fell down". No way Glenn flung him down. Okay, whatever. Then in the second-half, at almost the same spot on the field, Lucky (I believe) gets horse collared, worse than Griffin, NO CALL! Interesting that both plays were right in front of the Baylor bench. 2) NOBODY saw the hold on Swift the second time they tried the pump fake? I thought it the worst no call, by far. 3) First, NU doesnt get the fumble recovery on that punt that got touched. B.S., but ok, they get the ball at roughly the five. But then they say NU touched it!? You gotta be kidding me. I cant think of one no call that went against Baylor, and their were other, less game changing calls that I thought should've been called in favor of NU but weren't. There's bad calls in every game, but generally they don't seem that one-sided. Hopefully, the officials have a save trip back to Texas.
  6. Without the penalties, this team is maybe 5-1. Penalties being NU's only problem? Hmm. Might want to take a look at the defense.
  7. Thats higher than I thought they'd be.
  8. Thats exactly how I feel.
  9. To some degree I think it depends on which type of spread you're refering to. If you're refering to a Fla, Utah, WVU type of spread that relies more on the ground game to set up the pass, then I dont think so. I think they could run a Mizzou, TT type spread, but without their levels of success. I dont think its a bad idea considering they have no running game. Ultimately if the O-line and QB were better (regardless of the ratio of fault between talent and coaching), everyone would be fine with the offensive scheme currently in place. It seemed pretty darn awesome after Ganz took it over last year.
  10. Actually DJ, I think Pelini has already lost this team. At least in terms of the elder statesmen of the team. I guess what I actually mean is that he never really "had" them. Listen to the comments that some of these guys made after these last two weeks. They sound just like they did under the previous regime, "just need to put this behind us", "just need to execute better", etc. These guys are used to losing and used to not having to actually defend themselves to media. I'll know this is Bo's team/players when I hear something like, (helmet crashing against a locker) "You saw it! We played like freakin' pansies! Forget scheme and all that! We just need to sack up and clobber somebody!" When I start actually hearing players/leaders sound extremely tee'd off, and not like they've been doing this loser dance so many times that they can just push play and let the recorder spout off the same PC garbage we heard after the prior week's, I'll start believing that this is Pelini's team. Right now its still Callahan's team unfortunately.
  11. I agree with the rest of your post. But, Bo himself said his gameplan was garbage. It's not treason to agree with him, is it? If Bo himself said the gameplan was terrible, what's wrong with postulating about what a better gameplan would've looked like? Just because one asks such questions doesn't make one a bad fan or impatient with the coaching staff. It may not make you a bad fan, but it does make you impatient with the coaching staff. This was only their fifth game with a new staff, and were playing against one of the best teams in the country. Believe it or not, their opponent last week was and is one of the bette teams in the country. Everyone who thinks they can gameplan better than the coaching staff needs to go to Pelini's office and tell him what to do. Pffft. This is the second post of this manner I'm responding to. pctopeka, why do you come on this message board, if its not to actually discuss football? If no one can make an argument of any kind, what are we doing here? Are you here to police the sanctity of the collective Husker mind? These types of posts that question the questioning of the fans are ridiculous. Please take this as a non-threatening PSA.
  12. How do you tell a kid on 3d or 4th string not to try his best? Anyone that thinks a kid isn't going to try to impress someone when he gets his chance is nuts. maybe we just shouldn't keep score either. Agreed. What? The Force has turned on us? C'mon. Bad decision making in the administration and athletic program led to this. Ya, I always laugh at how NU "ran up the score" by running the ball up the middle with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringers. Were they supposed to just kneel down every second half snap?
  13. I think that's the right approach, but for it to work you need DBs that can bump a guy on the line and then have the athleticism to run with him down the field. We don't have DBs that can do that with the receivers that Missouri has. I think the reason our DBs were mostly playing 5 or so yards off was because they didn't have that athleticism, so you sit em back a little bit to prevent WRs from going over the top and you give your DBs a chance to jump some of the short routes and see if you can create some turnovers. Obviously that game plan didn't work. But I don't think there was no way we were going to defend this spread offense. Let's face it. They're pretty good. I believe you're both correct. I've been saying for years now that, NU specfically, needs to jam them so they cant ever get into the route. But, as DC put it, the DBs have to be able stay with them once they do past the rub. Of course the other thought is that if the D Line is good enough, the QB wont have time to wait for the WRs to fight off the rub.
  14. No. There was nothing in the original post that was "Well said." RANT ON: One of my biggest pet peaves is reading posts, and its happened far too often since this program has sank, where somone is either claiming "If you say.... Youre not a fan!" Did you write the rule book on what's acceptable Husker fan behvior and what isnt? Frankly I like to discuss the pros and cons of what goes on during games, seasons, recruiting, and whatever. Right now there's more cons than there are pros so there's going to be more negative comments discussed. I really dont think Pelini or any of the players really care what I'm posting. Nothing I post, pro or con, is going to get into their heads. I've been a Husker fan since I was five and probably was before that, but just dont remember. I've even defaced my body to "show" my support. LOL I dont need some hyper sensitive fan telling me how I can or cant feel about the program, or what I can or cant post. If the Mods tell me otherwise, then I'll just have to go start my own Husker website. I think its assinine to believe that we should fire Pelini. I think its just as assinine though to tell people they cant express any frustration on a message board for fear that it will lead to the program falling futher. I dont think its assinine to wonder if there does need to be some tweaking with the staff and the end of the season, or if the staff should be playing others if certain players arent performing. To me thats generally good message board/bar football discussion.
  15. I'm not saying he was. I have no problem with what he did. But if Missouri would have been passing in the 4th quarter I have a feeling people on this board would be complaining about running up the score. What I'm saying is that if you don't want your team to quit playing you shouldn't expect the other team to quit playing and run, run, run, punt witht he backups. This sure looks like trolling to me. Youre complaining about something NU fans didnt do about a situation that didnt happen. Its like your pre-emptively bitching in case this situation ever presents itself at some time in the future. Go kiss arse on a Tiger board somewhere.
  16. I'm not so sure about Watson. Maybe its Cotton. I dont know for sure. What I can tell is that this team is a far better passing team than running team. Yet theres this big ado that NU HAS to run the football. Why? I'm certainly a believer in what a good running game can do, but they dont have one. Whover's calling the plays seems quite culpable in these losses.
  17. Uh, ya we would've. The fans werent the ones that fired Solich.
  18. I guess it depends if you're a results ranker or a perception ranker. Percpetion-wise this probably isnt a top 25 team yet, but you're right about the default. Really, theres no reason to rank a VT, Tennesse, etc. over NU.
  19. I dont think the BC era is still a bit raw for many in the program. I cant blame them. Everything that they built was unceremoniously tossed aside by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. We fans have an appreciation for certain players, and I do think after the next couple of years, Taylor, Carriker, and possibly Ross will be considered "great" Huskers by the program. To be fair, I didnt see any players from the Jennings era, among others, showcased. Any issues with those coaches players being slighted?
  20. I think they'll get them back prior to VT.
  21. Agreed. For a switch I'm acttually glad they have a bye week before VT. Everyone needs to keep in mind that NMSU has yet to even play a game this year. If we dont destroy them Saturday I think there's HUGE reason for concern.
