The Model for Success at Nebraska: A Strong Physical Running Game
Jim Hammer replied to The Duke's topic in Husker Football
If it were so easy to duplicate what TO did, why wasn't Solich successful? Why haven't other teams run his system? Under Osborne, we had coordinators and coaches who'd been here together for many years. We had a system that developed all-American linemen who taught and developed the underclassmen to replace them once they graduated. TO finally recruited speed on defense and that's when it all came together. Riley has his system, we need to give him time to implement it. yeah, he was at Oregon State and never did perfect it, doing the same sh#t over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Would you rather he ran a system he's uncomfortable with? I get that you want him fired, but he's here and will be for a while. Nebraska's best chance for success is letting him do what he knows. -
Peterson got one hire. TO got one hire. If Riley is as bad as you hope he'll be, this will be Eichorst's only hire. What if Riley is just a placeholder until Frost or some other coach is ready to take over. Will the fans allow that?

Why won't it work at Nebraska? Is our field shaped different than other fields in the Big 10? Is our turf specifically designed for a running game? To run a successful offense you have to have proper coaching and talent. Osborne was successful because he was a great coach and developed players to run his system. Not every coach can duplicate that. When we hired Riley, we knew what kind of system he wanted to run. It's going to take time to implement. We?...Who was "we" ? Perlman, Eichorst, and the turds in their pockets? Ignore the meat, attack the parsley. "When Riley was hired, we (everyone who did their research) knew ..." Better? -

Coaches need to explain to players how social media works. A couple of idiots berating players are not representative of the entire fan base. And no good can ever come from responding to those idiots. Also, the internet is written in ink. When you write something in the heat of the moment, someone is going to read it and save it. Being in the public eye, it is probably better to never post anything negative because someone is going to twist it and make it worse than it is.

How can they rule it a touchdown when he's laying on the ground with the ball and then gets up to run it in? Moot point. -

The biggest problem with this team is passing. No one can throw an entry pass. Passes around the perimeter are off target so the player receiving the ball has to gather the ball before making a move. Passes are telegraphed or are late. -

I want someone in the post-game presser to ask Miles what his offense is supposed to be. It looks like take 9 seconds to get the ball over the time line, stand around for 10 seconds, pass it around the perimeter for 10 seconds, and panic for the last 6. -
Bo was planning in giving the players an uplifting speech about how Nebraska was a great place for them to develop and how he enjoyed the experience and to wish them well in the future. He just failed to execute.

Too much standing around on offense. No wonder they can't score. -
So you are saying: Fan $$$ = Football I disagree. College football doesn't have to exist in its present form. In fact, I would rather not have seen it turn into the minor leagues for the NFL and an escape for people who artificially boost their self esteem just by buying a t-shirt. There's always intramural football. No fans, no pressure, no glory...

Not sure about Faux, but I'm sure the cat will land on it's feet.

The last interim coach we had for a bowl game was eventually named head coach...

Questions that should have been asked at the presser
Jim Hammer replied to Hujan's topic in Husker Football
"You say that these losses come down to a lack of execution. Isn't it the job of the coaching staff to teach the players how to execute properly?" "You hired (promoted) these coordinators. It doesn't seem like they are doing the job they were chosen for and they don't seem to be getting better. Would you be willing to hire proven coaches to replace them to improve the play on the field?" -
The playcalling would be fine if there was better execution. Armstrong isn't on the same page as the receivers and the offensive line isn't doing their job. The defense isn't assignment sound and has poor tackling technique. The coaches fail in game preparation and it doesn't matter what you call if the players don't know what to do.
