  1. What I'm saying is that if you're going to let a guy come in and do his own things, it's got to be everything, including put in his own style of offense, whatever it is.
  2. How about letting go of the notion/tradition that we must run the ball?
  3. Peterson left Boise..... Money talks. This noble idea that coaches won't leave is crazy. And he turned down a LOT of offers before then. It wasn't money alone that got him away from Boise. Wasn't there some talk about him and Nebraska that he shot down when we had an opening? These guys can make a lot of money anywhere, they aren't just going to come to Nebraska because we write a big check. Speaking of Boise St, remember that can't-miss coach that came from there, Dan Hawkins?
  4. "Almost all players go on Twitter to attack AD" I stopped after this lie. According to MattyIce "Almost all" is defined as at least one player You are clueless. Go back and review. There were tons of players tweeting and spouting off. Tons? At 200 lbs each, "tons" would be at least 20 guys. Link? psst...10...but carry on. Psst . . . tons . . . plural. You're right!

  6. It's bad, but there's no reason to make up "facts". 1958. Yeah, a long time ago. But don't make up things to make it seem even worse. And before you claim you meant the "first time 3-6 before November" gem, let's not that there are very few years in which we even played 9 games before November. Oh man going 3-6 for the first time since Eisenhower was in office sounds way better........ Actually, it was 1960, 61 if you take 3-6-1. No, it doesn't sound a whole lot better. I just don't see why people have to make sh#t up and present it as fact. In reality, it just shows how incredibly successful and consistent Devaney and Osborne were, and in my opinion, how that kept the momentum going for years after their era.
  7. You said to look at stats, I posted the stats. We weren't running that well in the first half. We should've been, but we weren't. Like I said, we should've stuck with it longer though. We ran a bit better in the second half, when we were mostly passing with an occasional run. Riley might claim that he was right, the pass set up the run. I'm with you that he put too much on an inexperienced QB. But it's not black and white clear.
  8. BlackshirtAlert says the BlackshirtAlert show is definitely worth listening to! Sounds legit! But I'll pass.
  9. 1st drive: 4 carries for 10 yards 2nd: 5 for 9 yards (and not counting the fumbled snap that went for a big loss) 3rd: 2 for 24 (Newby's 22 yard run) 4th: no designated runs (Fyfe sacked and Fyfe 3 yard run which I think was a 3rd and long scramble) 5th: 1 for 4 6th: no runs (2 minute offense at end of half) 12 for 47, with almost half on one play. We were getting movement on the ground, but not a whole lot. In the second half, the game was starting to get away from us as we couldn't stop Purdue, and were having success passing except when Fyfe tossed up interceptions. I agree Riley and Lansdorf give up on the run too early, and should've built on that 3rd series success rather than abandon it. And with Fyfe, they should've been more committed to the run. But it wasn't like we went away from something that was clearly working. More typical to them, when it didn't go really well, they gave up on it. We didn't have the pipeline and LP out there with Fyfe. Big difference.
  10. I happened to flip that game on after the TD kick return but while they were still reviewing it. I had a lot of trouble figuring out what was going on, and why they seemed to reverse a block in the back call on review, which I didn't think was a reviewable penalty. ESPN didn't do a good job of showing whether the guy's knee was down on the early pitch. Was that an ESPNU game? That would explain the poor camera coverage.

  12. No. Frank is way too old, and his recruiting was... not good. That's what I told him, but he insisted that I was crazy for thinking that. I just wanted to see how many would be in agreement. I agree, he 70/71 years old. However, if the football gods confirm that they will lift the curse brought on upon his firing, I'm all for it! He hasn't exactly torn up the MAC while he's been at Ohio. Definitely no.
  13. You know that that's not going to happen. Those things usually don't happen the day of. Golden was fired the Sunday following Miami's 58-0 loss against Clemson. Holding Eichorst accountable can occur days after the game, too. Eichorst gave Golden an extention, he needs to be let go without question. better be by Monday. Or what?
  14. Speaking of bad losses, Texas just lost to Iowa St 24-0. Texas had 204 total yards with 77 of those coming in garbage time on the last drive.
  15. Herman buyout $2.25M New Nebraska contract $4M base salary over 4 years, $16M Add in what Pelini is owed which equates to $7.65M paid monthly $150,000 Add in what Riley would be owed $8.16M paid monthly $170,000 That's $34 million total, $15.81M of it being paid out to two former coaches. Seems like a lot but when you spread the payments out over 5 years, it's not too bad Gawd how do we get ourselves in these situations? Get a job Bo!!!! What about Bo coaching up there at Youngstown State? Or does he have to be coaching at I-A level. Sorry, I think the FBS and FCS designations are stupid. I'll still use I-A and I-AA We pay the diff between his new salary and what we guarantee. It would be nice if he got $2-3M at a top level school so we wouldn't have to pay as much, if at all.
  16. Syracuse 84? They went 6-5 that year, and 6-5 the year before when we beat them 63-7. Seemed like a shocker at the time but they weren't terrible. Kind of like how Arizona St shut us out after we stomped them the year before, though it turned out they were a really good team.
  17. Iowa St in 92 was a much bigger gap in talent between teams. I don't think we even had any turnovers in that game to put blame on, and Frazier may have been a freshman but he had more experience that Fyfe. The 70-10 Texas Tech game was just a shell shocker. They were certainly better, but they had their way with us and didn't even buy us dinner. This was a bad loss but with some key injuries it wasn't really a huge surprise to me.
  18. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/riley-contract-includes-million-buyout/article_baf3a9d7-97c6-52aa-af24-96ec7457b6ec.html Ow. Chewing on two big buyouts for a few years would hurt. I see a lot of people here who say to open up the checkbook; are they contributing? I'd be in favor of getting rid of Riley, but I ain't paying for it. You'd better have a big booster or two buying into that, and how many times can you go to that well? Also not sure who you get if you send the signal that a bad start can end your job. Even if you are sure it is justified, a prospective coach may have second thoughts. On the other hand, the longer it stays bad, the tougher it is to recover.
  19. There was a reason Osborne didn't offer Barry Sanders a scholarship...it just turned out it wasn't a very good one... The story I heard was that Osborne told Frank that since they had already offered Terry Rodgers that they couldn't take another small back in the same year. Rodgers never panned out, due to injury iirc and Sanders...well...he was freaking awesome. According to wikipedia, the only FBS programs to offer Sanders were Okie St and Tulsa. If Osborne missed, so did nearly ever other coach in the country, including Switzer. Sanders wasn't even the starting RB at his HS at the start of his senior year.
  20. You've just lost any chance at any credibility whatsoever.
  21. Assuming the two missed passes were a drop and a very wise throwaway to avoid a sack, yes.
  22. I kind of think the same exact thing and I also think the staff my sort of be thinking "Hmmmm...we can sit our starter the rest of the year, start Fyfe for the last 4 games and have a bit of an excuse for losing" Wow...just wow! I know, I know how it sounds but they know this season is lost. They know TA is dinged up. So you have the back up in and it changes the theme. Heck look how many "Hey, this is Riley's first year coaching at NU" posts there are...it would be that same type of thing with the backup QB in. I'm sure the players and coaches haven't quit on this season like you have. Tell you what, if you read some other boards all you read is that the players have quit or are tanking. Tell you what, go into the locker room and say that.
  23. I had heard of Ord but didn't know where it was other I was pretty sure it was more or less in the middle of the state. Calamus was of zero help. What was the finally tally?

  25. Inline, assuming all but the last apply to the major 5 conferences, otherwise I'm going to name SunBelt teams for some of those.
