  1. i dont think you can use all americans/ all big 12 to gauge talent- those things are heavily swayed by the teams win loss record. now the nfl signings is interesting, but we will have to see in the next 4 years about that. It IS interesting though that our best team had quite a few solich recruits on it. That class that they had coming in that Callahan managed to keep everyone turned out to be really good (most of the last minute cally adds didnt really turn out, i dont think, although ganz might have been one).
  2. the problem is, why wouldn't you schedule in this manner? All the press bitch up a storm when they get cupcake games like that, but then we go around and a team gets embarassed in an early game against a good opponent and it ruins the season and those same people penalize the crap out of them. If we REALLY want great nonconference games for every game, then teams should not be penalized as much for exhibition games. now, i don't think this is a great idea, because then you diminish the importance a loss has, which has already happened alot in the last five years. I'm just saying people have always scheduled in this way to an extent, and probly always will. Even TO said he likes to have a couple cupcakes and one or two challenges before playing conference games.
  3. all of those things sound like excuses that people use as to why they can't make things work, and yet time and time again a person comes in and makes it work at such places- or even worse places.
  4. ok that damn near disqualifies anything you have said. I don't know how you can say that the most consistently powerful team in the Big 12 has embarassed the conference. No I'm no Sooner fan, I hate them almost as much as colorado and texas. And don't say because of the past two bowl games, thats just garbage.
  5. My logic is telling me we will beat Kansas this year, but my gut is saying that Mizzou will choke- despite the fact that I think they are better than we are giving them credit for.
  6. Haha I think he is selectively forgetting everything that happened since the rose bowl against Miami in 01?
  7. IMO they need to make some bowls in cold weather areas too. And Champ games and Super Bowls need to stop pussin out. Have that stuff at green bay or something, football is an outdoor sport.
  8. Lol, i agree with the second one, I love Saul Williams, none of my friends will listen to me about how awesome his stuff is.
  9. you know, either way is fair game anymore. You just don't know what is gonna happen. I don't think many people thought Kansas would beat the Huskers let alone other teams like AM and Tech last year (before the season).
  10. Imo unless he proves something under the new staff he doesn't even deserve to be the number 4 tackle in the draft.
  11. Probably will have a lot to do with how both teams are doing up to that point. If both teams went in undefeated or near that there would be a good chance The only other decent games that Saturday I see are Tennessee/Auburn, Wisconsin/Michigan, and Alabama/Georgia Getting Gameday also might depend on how we have won our games. If we have barely pulled off wins against our first three crappy opponents (a la Ball St.) and VT has steamrolled everyone, we won't be getting gameday. With VT's injuries, I don't care if anyone marginalizes the win. A win over VT is a big win. Anything that prevents us from having a sh**ty record at the end of the year is a good thing. I just want to go to a bowl... ANY bowl. I don't care who is injured on the other team- just please, PLEASE win a big game. It's been a long time since that happened. When was the last time NU did that? 2001 against Oklahoma? Does the win over Michigan in '05 count? Ehhhh- I don't think so. It only felt like it was a big win because it was Michigan, but they were having a lousy year that year. I mean, when we beat them they were ranked 20th and I don't believe we were ranked. I must admit I'm looking forward to being competitive against top programs instead of just writing off games against programs like USC or Oklahoma as losses and crossing my fingers for an 8-4 season. Hopefully that starts with VT. Also, my guess is that Alabama/Georgia will be getting Gameday. Both of those teams are going to be really good next year, with Georgia likely being ranked #1. Nebraska may or may not be ranked at that time. I think we would have to beat Tech to be ranked. We normally seem to have a hard time with the polls, and its only gonna be harder now that we have sucked for an extended period of time. But shoot, I don't care about our ranking until we prove we deserve it anyway.
  12. Interesting about C.Nicks..What all did he do before the night of the Party to upset the Coaches? Sounds like he was trying to be responsible by planning ahead to not drive drunk. i'm always wrong about things when it comes to the pros, but 6th round pick for Purify is a steal IMO.
  13. I agree. Also, its getting old hearing it, but I honestly do just wanna see some <3 for a change.
  14. actually the last time I saw a spring game like this was when Bobby Newcombe was a freshman and nothing happened the whole spring game except one long run by Newcombe.
  15. you know, i actually wonder about not if Pelini had been hired as HC, but if Solich had not been fired to begin with. The recruiting class they would have been bringing in that year turned out to be pretty good (alot of those players got Cally his best season!), and they had brought Cotton in to install some new flavor into the offense, which not surprisingly was our main weakness that year, and they said near the end of the season that they hadn't "installed" the whole offense. But, there truly isn't any substance to "what ifs," as much as we might like to look back and wonder.
  16. I actually thought it looked more like the safety screwed up, which i think was Asante. If you watch it the safety comes over too shallow expecting the ball to not be as deep as ganz through it, Ganz just gunned that ball over the safety's head and let guilleylen run under it. It didn't really look to me like it was the corner's fault, looked like they were running cover 2 and that he wasn't in a pure man on man situation, but who knows my memory might be fuzzy and the dvr didn't record the pelini show last night
  17. ah man that was hilarious. On a serious note, I hope the vid they had is indicative of what tunnel walks are going to be from now on. Nice and simple no corny crap, no cgi, just pure husker sweetness.
  18. Western Michigian should win 1-0 San Jose State should win 2-0 New Mexico State should win 3-0 One of these first three will be too close for Husker fans' satisfaction, I'll say this one VTech one of the more memorable games of the year, Huskers win, some people jump the gun and call it Pelini's signature win 4-0. Tech ends up with a pretty dissapointing season. Mizzou chokes in Lincoln on a windy day 5-0 Husker fans pissed we aren't in the Top 10 Texas Tech big time letdown, breakout year for Tech Huskers lose by a couple touches 5-1 Iowa State closer than expected but huskers squeak by 6-1 Baylor easy win 7-1 Oklahoma big showdown, Huskers hold tough for the first half but eventually wear down to OU's rushing attack 7-2 Kansas Mangino eats all our runzas, so husker fans are hungry and quieter, but still loses 8-2 K-State This one hurts but Freeman goes crazy, all the Husker naysayers that say Pelini can't defense a dual threat say "I told you so"8-3 Colorado No huddle doesn't work as well in Lincoln. CU Improves this year but gets pounded in Lincoln 9-3 In a strange twist we get TTech again instead of OU in B12 champ, closer but lose again 9-4 Intriguing matchup in the Cotton Bowl of LSU vs. Nebraska. Nebraska gets surprising victory in what feels like a "down year" for LSU. Mark May says Huskers still suck because Les Miles just let Pelini win out of the kindness in his heart.
  19. yeah, what he said was we have no talent. I'm sorry but i just can't fully agree with that. Talent is what Solich got fired for (right or wrong). If he's right and we really do have no talent then he is right there saying himself ESPN's recruiting analysis is bogus as we finished ranked pretty high each year under Callahan! He can say we aren't gonna win 7 games, fine, but back it up with saying "first year struggles" or that the North is gonna be really tough this year, not some bullcrap.
  20. everyone keeps saying 5-7 but i know we should have lost both wake forest and ball state. won those games with luck. the other thing to keep in mind is that 5-7 doesn't tell the whole story, the points scored against us and our 112 ranked defense also factors in.
  21. How do we find said poll? Sorry didn't bother linking cuz it's just near the bottom of the main college football section http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/index
  22. Didn't see this posted on here yet, so thought I'd give a heads up that ESPN has a poll up for which coach do you think will improve its team the most? It was weird because just after one of the two guys said we didn't have any talent they ran the bit talking about the poll, and when the girl read the names off she SKIPPED OVER Pelini as an option!
  23. I actually think talent isn't his problem at all. I'd agree that he might not be quite as talented as he was supposed to be, but I think that its there, I think the old staff's mentality led to under-utilization of his strenghts, and because of the way he was used his weaknesses became more apparent to us than his strenghts (with the exception of the middle screen, one play Callahan seems to know how to teach better than anyone out there). The only thing about Marlon was the whole thing about him admitting he wasn't trying his hardest. If the coaches use him right, and he carries the right attitude with himself and the line really does prove to be a strength the sky really could be the limit for him this season.
  24. geography impaired - synonymous with academic casuality sometimes “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps.” here is a diagram further exploring this theory put forth by last year's miss South Carolina diagram
  25. i think we're gonna see ty moved to DE and Baker will be a DT. now i'd be surprised to see freshmen starting anywhere, but if Baker goes with DT he will play alot. Where as if he sticks to OL he might not.
