  1. They looked good against us no doubt but we made them look a lot better than they are.
  2. I don't see the tempo as being an issue personally. I think our offense is a big play offense. Sometimes, most times, we bust big plays. It's rare to see double digit play drives.
  3. These stats are why people are making "knee-jerk" decisions about Pelini and if he's the guy to bring Nebraska back to relevance. At this point, I don't think so. We seem to be a 2nd tier team these days just peddling in the middle of the pack. I'm not sure what the issue is as I think we have some good talent but it just feels like we're missing something. It's a hard pill to swallow when we went from winning titles to hoping for a bowl bid.
  4. I blame the scheme personally. To run the scheme we run, you need a solid DL. You need a solid defense regardless but with a zone where there isn't much QB pressure from blitzes, you need to have a good DL to pressure the QB. To me, the defense looks soft and wide open.
  5. Probably the most realistic answer I've seen. While I don't think Bo is on the hot seat because he/we could still win 10 games this year and play in the rose bowl if we get our defense together, he should start feeling some pressure for sure. No team ever gives up 63 in league play without a lot of serious questions. Even without the turnovers, I still think tOSU beats us because our D had no answers for anything. This trend has been happening for years now. I blamed it on Carl last year because of his laid back zone style defense but now that he's gone, I guess Bo is the next choice to blame. If you have top tier talent and speed, running a zone style defense is effective but if you don't, you can bank on being gashed against teams with talent/speed or mobile QBs. It's just a fact. It works in the NFL because of the parity amongst teams. I think defensively we are in a bad spot. Our offense, although shaky at times, is still putting up big numbers. This season feels like Suh's senior year but just the opposite. That year the defense was solid and kept us in every game but our offense was the problem then either turning the ball over or just not coming through...see all of our losses by 3 pts or less and winning what, 10 games?
  6. They were not at all kind to us (and why would they be?!!): 4. Nebraska (4-2, 1-1, last week: 2): Pelini had no explanation for his team's latest road meltdown at a big-boy stadium. After a strong first quarter, Nebraska's defense fell apart, allowing six consecutive touchdown drives. Quarterback Taylor Martinez reverted to his past roadkill form and committed four turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown. The Huskers have talent and an exciting, big-play offense, but they repeatedly wilt in the spotlight away from Lincoln. The good news: They can still win a weak league. We can still be a giant...among a weak legends division.
  7. Eh, the comment is based on the game tonight assuming we continue to play that way. If by some chance we can right the ship with this bye week then awesome but I'm not hopeful that we will. Losing one game isn't an issue but more so the way we lost.
  8. Maybe we should start with a clean slate with a new AD? At this point, we're just going to settle for 8-9 win seasons if big things don't change. Also, our "omg comeback" against Wisconsin was a false sense of hope for this game (for me especially). While Wisconsin is better than they played the first few games, they are still pretty bad this year so we had a great comeback against a mediocre Wisconsin team. We aren't even a top 30 team at this point, imo. The defense always seems thin; I can't explain it. When I watch SEC games, it seems like they have 11 guys playing lights out defense but when I watch our game, it feels like we have about 6-7 guys just running around. Maybe the camera angles are different, I don't know but we don't seem to have any sort of control of our defense. We bend....don't break, then boom, a big play or a team gashes us. Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan State still ahead...maybe we go 2-2 against those teams and win 7-8 games this year? Yay? Heartbreaking season once again.
  9. Very classless at the end there not that it matters, though. We were manhandled after being up 17-7. It's like something broke and we couldn't stop their offense. Side note: If you're up by 2-3 scores with :58 left in the game and it's 1st down and you elect to run the ball instead of taking a knee, it's classless. Sure, you can blame the defense for not tackling but it's still a classless act. However, being that it's Urban Meyer, just expect it.
  10. I think the biggest concern with our defense is not that they're giving up the points but that we don't even make plays. Each play is getting 5-10 yards on average. We aren't even able to set them back here and there. We are just merely slowing them down. The only positive thing I can say about tonight is that the offense is giving it a full 100% even Taylor even with the 2 INTs.
  11. Lol, this is the part of the game where the wheels have fallen off. If Bo doesn't start feeling some heat, then expect 8 win seasons from here on out. We've settled for mediocre, apparently.
  12. I wish we had a defense. Our guys always seem to be out of place and spread too thin. Something is just missing and it just looks like things are falling apart. With TO leaving, what are the chances of Bo having a really short leash?
  13. If our D plays the full game like they did the 2nd half, we win by 5 TDs. Still, a great comeback win! GBR!
  14. Can we afford to lose TO and Bo in the same season? I think we might as well go ahead and do a clean sweep and start fresh.
  15. I don't understand how we never get any QB pressure. Opposing QBs get to stand in the pocket unharmed while they scan the field. Our D always feels like it's thin and like we're out of sorts. I blamed Carl but maybe I had the wrong Pelini.
  16. I have to wonder if it's time for a coaching change already. We're good against mediocre teams and anything above that, we're awful.
  17. We're no Northern Iowa. I'm afraid it's going to be a very long season. Here's to hoping we can get bowl eligible.. :/
  18. Where was he today? Hes one of our most talented guys but I rarely seem him playing. I didnt see him at all today.
  19. I'd love to see a tally on the number of missed tackles. We missed a ton of 'stops in the backfield' that turned into 10+ yard gains solely because the tackles were missed. We don't gang tackle at all and we don't force a lot of turnovers. The defense seems to be bend but don't break by design and we often seem 'thin' when we're on the field. I still think the missed tackles ultimately cost us the game, though. We need a lot of improvement elsewhere as well but there were a few runs where we missed 5 or more tackles and the plays resulted in big gains. Also, all offenses create matchup issues, that's not ever going to stop.
  20. No doubt. I felt like last year Carl was too balanced/conservative as a coach but even now, I feel like we play on our heels. The defense is fine with some big time playmakers a la Suh but right now, we just don't have that. Compton is about the only guy I feel 100% confident in...
  21. I wish I had something positive to say about the defense. Field position wasn't in our favor for most of the first half but that doesn't excuse the missed tackles and the nonexistent pass rush. So far, the big ten is looking wobbly compared to the other conferences. Aside from USC, looking like another SEC title type year.
  22. Also: Dari Nowkhah @ESPNDari Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Stud OT Andrus Peat commits to Stanford, not Nebraska where his bro plays! #SigningDay @ESPNU
  23. This kind of thing. Stewart Mandel @slmandel Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Five-star OL Andrus Peat picks Stanford over Nebraska. Ah, how the times have changed.
  24. I've been checking Rivals and ESPN mostly. We were in the top 25 on Rivals for a bit then fell to 30th. I know it's not over yet but just looking over the other teams and rankings, it's just interesting to me. For instance, Texas @#2 - I know they are Texas but they have been pretty bad the past few years. Clemson is sitting at #9....it's Clemosn?! aTm @#13, UCLA @#17, Washington @#22, Rutgers@#24, Texas Tech@#25, Virginia@#26, Cal@#29...all above us.
