  1. There is a hotel in Martin, SD? That place is the butt hole of South Dakota.
  2. I am definitely not the spelling police, but this made me laugh: corgual
  3. My experience in Columbia was awesome on Thursday. I parked 10 minutes from the stadium, tailgated with Husker and Mizzou fans, and had a great time talking with all of the Mizzou folks in my section. With the exception of the obvious down pour, it was a lot of fun. And btw, complaining about being drenched is a bit silly. You were drenched whether you had to walk 2 miles or 2 minutes. Secondly, there was mud everywhere. That's what happens when it rains 6 inches in 6 hours.
  4. So you expect the Tech Offense, minus Crabtree and two NFL linemen, to be better than last season? You expect Tech to score more than 31 points in regulation against this Nebraska defense which is clearly better than a year ago? You expect this Tech team, which is turning the football over in droves, to not turn the football over against a defense which has shown a propensity for creating turnovers? You'll have to excuse me if I don't share your fear. Nebraska -7 is the lock of the year. I expect Nebraska to roll the Red Raiders. Home Crowd Momentum Defense Pass Rush Suh Sheffield making first road Start in Lincoln. Turnovers All of these factors will help dictate a snowball effect for the Huskers. Look for NU to roll. Btw, Texas Tech's offense has been good against Rice, K-State and New Mexico. Those three teams are a combined 3-12. Their offense has been "un-Tech Like" against the only two teams they've faced with a pulse. Again, you'll have to pardon me if I refuse to "fear" Tech. NU rolls, there is no doubt in my mind.
  5. Congrats on posting the most rational and spot on opinion in the history of Huskerboard. I salute you.
  6. No Shiite about Gabbert being more effective with a healthy ankle. But he doesn't hurt his ankle if he's not having to elude Suh and the rest of the NU D-line. The weather had nothing to do with Gabbert coming up gimpy. The jury is not still out on the Husker pass defense. They could still definitely have some mental and communication break downs, but athletically and fundamentally, NU will match up with any passing game in the country. Go look what Rusty Smith has done since facing Nebraska. Check out what the QB for Arkansas State did against Iowa. Gabbert has been nothing short of amazing this season. I think you'll also see Tech have their most struggles of the season this weekend. Complain about the NU offense, our pass defense and defense as a whole is fine and bordering on elite.
  7. Lol. Still not sold on our pass defense? We have truly been a snakebitten fan base. There is no doubt about that. And can you or anyone please explain to me how NU getting to Gabbert, and hurting him had anything to do with the weather? Sure Gabbert getting hurt helped the Huskers, but it's not like he was hurt by a random sniper taking out his ankle from the Press Box. He was hurt because NU's D-line gave the Mizzou o-line serious match up problems.
  8. To preface this post quickly I would like to point out I am not a delusional kool-aid drinking Husker fan. With that thought in mind, I truly believe the Huskers will roll Tech this weekend. This game has snowball blowout victory written all over it. I firmly expect Tech to come in, struggle with pass protection, and thus turn the football over. That mixed with a jacked up crowd will lead to a woodshed beating. Texas Tech is going to get what's been coming to them for a long time.
  9. I was in the stadium on Thursday, and I will argue the Huskers were effected by the rain much worse than the Tigers. IMO, NU "names their score" in dry conditions. People can be critical all they want, and deservedly so, trying to throw the football that much in those conditions was silly. However, the plays were there. NU had receivers open, and the Mizzou defensive scheme allowed for the passing game to work. They just didn't convert. Secondly, Gabbert getting hurt had nothing to do with the weather. lastly, Jason Whitlock knows nothing about college football. he proves it time and time again. His assertion that Iowa State somehow has a better offense than Nebraska illustrates his stupidity.
  10. I'm originally from San Antonio, 70 or so miles south of Austin. Driving through SA the day after the '05 Alamobowl with our car all Husker'd up, we got a lot of thumbs up. No negative response at all. We've competed with them the last two times we played and our team was dreadfull in '07. Honestly, our defense is capable of keeping us in any game.
  11. LMAO at KU fan. You have 4 players starting whom could start for the Huskers and yet you still want to talk trash. Btw those four are Reesing, Briscoe, Meier, and Stuckey. Jake Laptad would be second string. Sharp would play behind Helu, and Operum wouldn't even sniff 4th string. Tim Biere would literally be 6th on the tight end depth chart, and your offensive line is trash. Same with your linebackers. Your linebackers remind of the Nebraska linebackers in 2007. Please come back here after beating a team of substance.
  12. I think our offense will have to be a lot better to beat OU, but you'd have to be a miopic Oklahoma fan to not see Nebraska's d-line is vastly superior to the OU offensive line. OU has stuggled mightly in pass protection and running football. On top of that, the their receiving corps will not give our secondary match up problems. I used to chalk up the OU game as automatic loss, but they're not an elite football team this season. And that's not just because BRadford is hurt. Their o-line is average at best this year, while it might have been the best in the nation a year ago. Unless an elite football team comes to Lincoln, I don't see the Huskers losing at home this year.
  13. I don't have delusions of granduer about the Huskers after last night's win. I actually thought the Huskers were good enough to beat Mizzou by double digits, and they pulled it off, despite playing awful offensive and special teams football for a half. With that being written, I would like everyone to know I am supremely confident Nebraska is going to kick the ever living shiite out of Texas Tech next weekend. I believe Texas Tech is going to suffer the full wrath of a Nebraska football program which has been kicked around for a number of years by upstarts like the Red Raiders. The Huskers finally possess the type of defense capable of creating turnovers, big plays, and more importantly helping build the Memorial Stadium crowd into a Crescendo which will create a snowball effect for opposing offenses. Add this reality to a Tech offense which has made a lot of mistakes so far. All of us can look back at certain Husker home games where the emotion and the atmosphere was fed by the Blackshirts. I think next week we will all see that again. Take this one to the bank folks, Nebraska lights up Tech 46-17.
  14. this is the only thing that has my worried...a case of fumbleitis striking the team. other than that, im not worried or nervous or anxious at all about this game...just a walk in the park... Talk about bad feelings. Imagine dropping 75 bucks on the ticket, spending 30 bucks on gas, 10 bucks on beer, 10 on food, leaving work early, 10 bucks on the rain slicker, and then driving 2 hours to Columbia. Now if we lose, my wet ass will have to drive back home tonight, think about spending 130 bucks to watch a loss. I will get home late, and then have to get up for work again tomorrow morning and face about 50 Mizzou fans. If we win it will all be worth it. If we lose, I will be kicking myself for catching pneumonia, throwing money down the drain, and most importantly having to accept another mediocre Husker season. Not what I was wanting to hear. Were leaving around noon today. I'm pumped as hell, and excited, but a loss will indeed bum me out. Now the good thing about the game is I don't think Nebraska will lose. I expect us to win, and that's why I decided to go. And btw, thanks again for the tickets, see you tonight!

  16. Because Bo and Co are HUGE on emphasizing that it is a team effort, and not merely a collection of individuals. That'd go contrary to what he preaches every day. Removing the blackshirts seems like a Calahan move. Is he the one who started it? No man, Bo took them away because under Callahan the Huskers played defense like the Pink Shirts. Nebraska used be top 10 nationally in defense every season. A bad year for Nebraska's defense was 20th in the nation. I think Bo is laying an expectation down of elite defense before the Blackshirts are awarded again. Right now, Nebraska seems to be on their way, but they need to show they can shut down a high powered Big 12 offense before one could say the actual distiniction of the Blackshirts has been earned. I think once NU gets to that point, you will likely see the Blackshirts here to stay.
  17. Dude, I'm not bent out of shape about any of this. If I was bent out of shape, i would be posting all over those blog comments, and Tigerboard. This is a message board. It's the prime location for this kind of fan rationale. In all seriousness, i love this stuff, and its part of the reason why I check out Tigerboard daily. Mizzou fans bring it on a regular basis. However, I will reitterate: I think a lot of you are suffering from wishfull thinking if you think you're going to keep Nebraska's offense in check like Va Tech. If Roy Helu goes off for 160+ rushing yards against the Tigers, NU will be dancing in and out of the end zone on a regular basis. Even the most Black and Gold Blinded Tiger fan can admit Tech has a much better defense than Mizzou. Secondly, there is no doubt Mizzou will have the best offense NU has faced so far this season. However, any assumptions claiming the Huskers will surrender more points than any of your other three FBS opponents is foolish. Anyone with a pulse can see Nebraska's defense is vastly improved and far more athletic than the last two seasons. My opinions are based on common sense man. i'm not going to bash Mizzou at all. I have nothing but respect for the Tigers. I do however believe NU has a serious advantage along the line of scrimmage, and one of the top secondaries in the Big 12. In Lincoln, I would expect a double digit Nebraska win. In Columbia, this game goes down to the wire.
  18. You really should re-title your post to "This is what ONE Mizzou fan thinks". Your insecurity is showing. Not true dude. Every comment after Matter's Blog mirrored the same sentiment when referring to the Huskers. I'm astounded by a couple of prevailing themes from Tiger fans: 1. Our secondary is unathletic. 2. Our offense sucks because we couldn't score a TD versus Va Tech. 3. The notion that you will somehow score more against Nebraska than you could muster against Nevada, Bowling Green, or Illinois. These ideas are laughable. And no I am not insecure. For the first time in 3 years, I actually think Nebraska will give Mizzou serious matchup problems.
  19. Taken from the Dave Matter Blog Comments of the Columbia Tribune: I haven't lost any faith in this coaching staff, and I'm certain that there are multiple issues, and players to blame for the weak ground game. We've still got time to figure things out before the conference opener. Besides, weak ground game or not, NU's defense doesn't scare me in the least bit. Especially NU's secondary. NU hasn't played anyone with the likes of what MU's qb and wr's present for opposing teams. The one varsity squad they've played this year hasn't had an offense in years. (Multiple fieldgoals will not beat MU.) Defending MU's offense will be the greatest challenge they will have faced thus far, and they won't be facing it in the friendly confines of Lincoln. Their qb is barely average at throwing the ball, and their wr's drop too many passes that they shouldn't. Their biggest threat on offense is Helu, and if he doesn't have a monster game in Columbia then NU has NO chance at winning this game. That "Slow-as-molasses-in-January" secondary the Huskers have will get torched come October 8th. Yes, that's absolutely correct Tjones, despite their bad record the Illini has better offensive talent at the skill positions than NU. The weakest link in the Illini's chain is their headcoach, not their talent. So don't think for a minute that "Pedestrian Zac", "Butterfingers Holt", "Nancy-boy Niles", or "Wannabe 21 again-Watson" put any fear into the minds of Spoon and company.
  20. This starting trifecta will piss a lot of people off. However, it sounds like Dillard is coming back out of the dog house. Lawrence has been cleared to play, and May has shot up the depth chart.
  21. Pretty much what I'm thinking, too. I don't bet, but if I did, I think I'd plunk down $ on the under. If the over is achieved, I think it will mean the Husker defense isn't up to the challenge, and that would hurt my heart. I think the first game is bound to be a little sloppy on both sides, so there could be some pick-sixes or blocked punts/kicks that will artificially inflate the score. I wouldn't touch the O/U to be honest. I might drop a little on Nebraska covering (but I don't bet on Nebraska games as a rule). Actually, I would take the under on this game. I think Nebraska's defense will dominate FAU at the line of scrimmage.
  22. Please understand the following post has nothing to do with the Huskers. The following opinon of the Kansas Jayhawks has nothing to with Nebraska or whether or not I believe Nebraska will win the North in 2009. Any magazine, writer, prognosticator, or fan who picks the Kansas Jayhawks to win the Big 12 North in 2009 has lost all credibility. It is absolutely illogical for Kansas to win the North in 2009. Iowa State- blowout, easy win Their first Big 12 road game is at Colorado. - Is this game winnable for Kansas? Sure. However, even without Josh Smith, Colorado should be marginally better in 2009. Most notably, they will be better along the line of scrimmage. KU's biggest weakness is the line of scrimmage. It should also be noted that KU did not put away CU until late in the 4th quarter of last year's win in Lawrence. CU has more than enough talent and athleticsm to beat KU in Boulder. Only the most delusional KU fan can honestly call that game a sure win. Oklahoma- Please. Not going to happen. OU will embarrass KU. Reesing will be on his back most of the game. OU will control the line of scrimmage and take the crowd out of the game early. At Texas Tech - Tech is 48-10 at home this decade. They will re-build in '09, but KU travels to Lubbock on Halloween. Innexperience is not a factor by the end of October. Did I mention Tech is 48-10 this decade? Lastly, Tech destroyed KU last year. A big part of that was due to Tech controlling the line of scrimmage. Tech will still maintain that same advantage in '09. At Kansas State- I hate to give KSU any credit. I think their talent is poor by Big 12 standards, but this game will occur in week 9 of the Snyder regime. I want to give KU the win, but can anyone honestly say this is a definite win for KU? One thing is for sure, Snyder will not let KU waltz into Manhattan and blow them out. Nebraska- just to show I'm being fair, I will give KU the win here. Although common sense suggests the following: Kansas had superior offensive skill talent and a better secondary in last year's matchup, but Nebraska won rather easily because they controlled the line of scrimmage. Nebraska will offer the same matchup problems in the trenches in '09. Secondly, Zac Lee will likely be starting his 10th game of the season. Innexperience is not a factor in November. But again, I will say KU wins this game. at Texas- No, not gonna happen. Mizzou- Mizzou has tons of questions. If KU was opening the season with the Tigers, I would say KU wins easily, but Mizzou innexperience is irrelevant in the last week of the season. KU gets no favors with this matchup. You have to give them the edge, but this is definitely not a sure win for KU. What do we know about Mizzou? They have talented innexperience. What does that translate into by week 12? They have talent. They will be more than capable to knock off KU the final week of the season. But then again, to be fair, I will give KU the win. I see one legitimate sure fire, no brainer Big 12 win for KU, and that's Iowa State. They're not going to beat Tech, OU, or Texas, and they will finish 3-1 at best against Mizzou, K-State, Nebraska, and CU. They will not go unscathed against those four. Only one of those games is at home, and that matchup comes agains the team that presents them with their biggest mismatch along the LOS. Kansas will not win the North in 2009. It's completely illogical. Just to reitterate: Any magazine, prognosticator, or writer whom picks Kansas to win the North in 2009 has lost all credibility.
  23. I can understand how a guy from a small town Nebraska could go unnoticed and become a high impact player as a walk-on, but I'm really amazed how guys like Jared Tomich and Stewart Bradley were unoffered in their own states. How the heck does Purdue or Indiana not offer Tomich back in the early 90's? Neither of those teams could play defense back then? It would be one thing if Tomich was a late bloomer, but he was a stud from the moment he got on campus. Stew Bradley astounds me as well. How the heck did Utah or even lowly Utah State fail to offer him?
  24. Let's not forget the Huskers used to play defense as well. A gigantic reason NU used to wear so many teams down is because their defense forced three and outs on a regular clip. If NU can continue to recruit blue chip players on defense, Nebraska will make some strides with Pelini at the helm. Recruit impact players on defense first. NU already proved they can move the football with guys like Joey Ganz, Nate Swift, and Todd Peterson. I love all those guys, but they're not going to turn any heads at an NFL scouting combine. If we can get the defense shored up, the wins will start becoming easier. Once NU starts racking up 10 win and 10+ win seasons again, then the National recruits will start gravitating towards the Nebraska offense as well.
